Local woman missing drew me in from the start. We read this story from the several prospectives
Kate, neighbour to Meredith
Meredith, who has gone missing with her daughter Delilah
Leo, Meredith’s son
and Delilah
At the start of each separate chapter it told you who was the narrator and whether this was now or 11 years ago when Meredith disappeared.
We learn about these characters and the story surrounding the disappearance and the aftermath.
I loved this story and found myself struggling to put it down, however I’m afraid I found the ending a little flat, would have liked a better conclusion as it’s left me with questions about what happened to some of the characters
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review

A slow thriller.
Meredith was living with her husband Josh and newly born daughter, Delilah until one day when she got disappeared with her daughter. No one has any clue where they've gone and eleven years passed.
Now, her daughter returned from nowhere. She told the story that she was held captive by a bad couple in a closed room with no light. She ran off from that place somehow.
Kate and Bea are their neighbours who are always present for Josh and his son Leo.
Told from three POV's, Meredith, Kate and Leo. This story is a slow thriller. I wasn't expecting this from Mary Kuvica after reading her The Other Mrs. I was expecting much more but yet it was proved to be a good read. After 70% it picked up pace incredibly. Although the final twist didn't surprise me much because I personally found Leo's POV not so interesting. If it was told from Meredith and Kate's POV then it would be more pacey.
I loved the characters of Kate, Meredith and Bea.
Narration of the story is simple.
Thanks to NetGalley and HQ for giving me an advanced copy of this psychological thriller.

A mother and daughter go missing and twelve years later the a girl escapes from a basement and is presumed to be the daughter.
The story line is a good one with lots of twists in it to keep you guessing and the characters all unfold as the story goes along.
Great read.

Highly recommend!! Brilliantly written thriller, absolutely loved the unravelling of the story. If you liked this definitely read The Good Girl by the same author, one of the best thrillers I’ve read.

This is the first novel I've read by Mary Kubica and it certainly didn't disappoint. It is a gripping thriller that I was completely immersed in over a period of 24 hours and really did not know where it was going. It is told from different viewpoints over different time frames and this helps to build the tension and mystery. All I can say without giving any spoilers is that it has a twist I did not see coming ! Highly recommended and I'll definitely be reading Kubica's back catalogue.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital ARC.

Another great book from Mary Kubica. I got a little excited when I saw she had a new book due out and this did not disappoint. The first of the present day chapters from the point of view of Delilah ensured that I wouldn’t be able to put this one down for long. Delilah has returned home after 11 years absence and the story switches back and forth from present day to when she and her mother went missing. Full credit to the author as I pretty much had no clue what was going on here and totally fell for every misdirect. The characters really come to life and make it easy to get drawn in to the story. Reading this got me through a couple of days when I was struggling with a strained back and little else held my attention. Highly recommended

I read this book within 6 days, it was such a whirlwind of a book and I love it

The story starts and we see a young girl escaping from her basement home where she has been held for 11 years. A woman and her child comes across her and takes here to the police. She is taken back to her home where her father and brother still live.

The story swaps between the present day and 11 years ago and follows the lives of Bea and Kate who are next door neighbours to a family Meredith, Josh, Delilah and Leo. At this point we are told that there has been a local woman, Shelby who has been missing for 10 days. On the doorstep of Bea and Kate's house is Josh and Leo and we are told that Meredith and Delilah are missing. The book swaps between Kate, Meredith and Leo (who is now much older and getting used to his "sister" being back after 11 years). I loved the characters in this book and really warmed to Kate and Meredith. Mary Kubica writes with such details that I could not put this book down.

This sets off a whirlwind of events and wow it gripped me so much. I never saw the twists and turns coming and I devoured this book.

Thank you so much Mary Kubica for an advanced copy of this book. You are now one of my favourite authors and I can not wait for more gripping and thrilling books.

Shelby Tebow is the first to go missing and shortly afterwards Meredith Dickey and her six year old daughter Delilah also disappear. Eleven years later a girl is found who is identified as Delilah. The story is told in two timelines from eleven years ago and now and by Meredith, Delilah, Leo her younger brother and by neighbour Kate.

Mary Kubica writes cracking thrillers which I always enjoy reading. Delilah’s storyline is dark, intense and horrifying and she’s beyond brave. Some of the descriptions of her situation are very sobering as you appreciate the depth of her trauma and suffering. Meredith’s point of view becomes increasingly intense, tense, frightening and suspenseful as we reach the conclusion. Leo’s perspective is very illuminating as it demonstrates the destruction that serious crime has on individuals and on family dynamics, it’s heartbreaking. Kate’s neighbourly perspective is interesting as the viewpoint of onlookers is often intriguing. The novel contains powerful emotions in the storytelling with everything from shame and guilt to shock, torment and horror. The novel is gripping, the pace is fast, the storytelling taut and full of suspense and tension with major twists that are very disturbing. My reservation of the book lies in the ending which I find far fetched and somewhat unrealistic and I think it lets the previous incendiary storytelling down. It deserves better!

Overall though, reservation aside it’s very hard to put down as it grips in a vice like hold! It’s a well written thriller as you’d expect from Mary

With thanks to NetGalley and HQ for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.

This was a really gripping book and after I got used to the narrative and by the end it made sense and couldnt see how it could be done any other way.

I did think there was one plot line which was unnecessary, it did take me down a rabbit hole which dead ended, but there were so many other strands that would have been enough.

I was given an advance copy by the publishers and netgalley but the review is entirely my own

Written from the perspective of Delilah who has been held captive in a basement for many years, the opening chapter was intense and gripping. We are taken back 11 years earlier to learn the story of her mother Meredith and how they both disappeared, leaving behind her husband and young son. I was confused as to why some of the story was told from the perspective of Kate, who lives next door to the family with her partner, Bea, however all is soon revealed.

I felt the opening chapter was outstanding, but the chapters from Kate's viewpoint didn't hold my attention as much. It's hard to write about this novel without spoilers. The author does a great job of pacing the narrative and revealing twists at just the right moment. The writing was engaging and characters well illustrated,

Many thanks indeed to netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy.

You’ll never find her. Don’t even try.
When a local mother and her six-year-old daughter, Delilah, suddenly vanish, their close-knit suburban community is rocked by fear and suspicion. How could such a terrible thing have happened in their small town?

What a gripping mystery.

This was a very disturbing but amazing read.

Thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish and could not get enough of.

This is a must read for anyone who enjoys a good thriller!!
Absolutely loved the characters, the plot, the tension -  impossible to put it down.
Certainly recommended!

I have mixed feelings about Local Woman Missing. It’s good. It’s real good. BUT it left me bored in places and wanting more at the end.

It’s jaw dropping thriller craziness at its best though. A lot of threads and how they came together really left me shocked. Twisty and dark

Really enjoyable but I wish the beginning was at strong as the ending!

4/5

Utterly gripping, so many storylines interlinked in one dark and twisty tale. As the book progresses they all develop and the crossovers start to emerge, with quite a few diversions and false leads along the way. Just as you feel you’re starting to guess what’s going on then everything you assumed shatters and takes a completely different turn. I completely trusted the wrong person in this book and did not see the ending coming until it was right on top of me. Very ingenious and lots of shocks! Great writing, definitely left me wanting to read more by this author.

Thanks Netgalley and the Publishers. Another fast paced, page turning thriller from this author. I personally thought that was terrific.

I can't remember the last time I rated 5* but I was so thoroughly swept up in this book from start to finish that I can't see how i can rate otherwise.

I was on the edge of my seat - proverbially - from the first page and by the end I thought I was going to have some sort of heart attack because everything was coming together so quickly and so unexpectedly. There were a few expected ways to end the story, there were so many red herrings I could smell fish, I thought I knew what was going on. Yet the ending that we got was the very definition of a twist.

I don't think I will stop thinking about Meredith for a long time. Hers was a character that I related to and sympathised with and I find her tale tragic.

I thought for a while I was going to give a good 4* rating because there was something about the writing style that didn't sit right at times, but who cares about minor things like that when the rest will keep you up all night!?

A highly addictive page-turner of a book that’ll keep you guessing until the end!

Wow I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It’s my first from this author and I was impressed at just how well this story was constructed and slowly unraveled.

The book is split not only between two characters (Kate and Meredith) but also flits between an 11 year gap of ‘before’ and ‘after’. At first this took me awhile to get my head around as there’s an awful lot of plot to start off with! But before long I was totally engrossed in the unfolding of the tale and almost forgot that we were looking for ‘who dunnit’!

Needless to say there’s a lot of twists and unexpected events to keep your mind whirring away. The book does cover the topic of abuse in all forms and some parts may be disturbing for others to read. There is a strong focus on motherhood and the bond between mothers and their children. The characters are beautifully written and feel totally real. Everything about this book is of the highest standard and I can’t really find fault. For me, it was an easy 5 stars because:
(i) It’s well written
(ii) I enjoyed reading it
(iii) I’d recommend it
(iv) I’d buy it for someone else
(v) it made me want to read another by this author

So reader... I’m not going to go into the plot and rewrite the synopsis because you’ve probably already read that and ultimately what you want to know is ‘is it as good as it sounds?’. Well, yes! It is. You should definitely read this book.

Thanks to NetGalley for my advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you to Netgalley and HQ for the arc of Local Women Missing by Mary Kubica.

4 star read- this follows three gorups of people/characters, the family unit characters, the families and the keep straight ones.. this is set within a town which is deemed very safe to live in. Until one day woman named Shelby goes missing and disappears... she went for a run and didnt come back... she wouldn't just run away from her husband and children... so the police start digging in and investiagting this.. then before long another woman named Merideth but this time with her child Delilah they both are missing... Josh the husband of her is so scared and is very Concernly worried as they still have a boy named leo at home... bit wierd how its only girls/women going missing right?! Me too!

Such a captivating, interesting, thrilling read

After being missing for eleven years, sixteen year old Delilah suddenly returns to her suburban hometown. She disappeared along with her mother and an apparent suicide note read 'you'll never find her, don't even try'. There are a couple of mysteries in the book and although it can get a bit confusing, it keeps you guessing as to who is responsible for the disappearance. The mother, Meredith was a doula who assisted local women with childbirth and its hard to imagine who would want her dead. I thought this was a really gripping book although the end seemed a bit rushed and many loose ends were tied up in the last few pages.

I love some of this author’s previous books so I was very excited to read this. The way the story is written using different narrators is very clever. The plot is ridiculously intriguing and I kept guessing the twists. Some of the twists were predictable and others were just unbelievable. I love the way that I was gripped by the story but the ending wasn’t as dramatic as I would have liked.

Wow, this is a fantastic book which is one of the best books I have ever read. I loved it so much and I highly recommend it! This is the first time I have read a book by this author and I look forward to reading more of her books. I have already purchased one of her books since finishing this book and I will purchase more at a later date.

The story of this book is told by a woman called Meredith, a woman called Shelby, Meredith's son Leo, Meredith's neighbour Kate and a girl who is assumed to be Meredith's abducted daughter Delilah. Shelby goes missing and then Meredith and Delilah go missing shortly afterwards. It is found out what happened to Meredith and Shelby, but Delilah is still missing and her Dad and brother Leo are heartbroken at losing her. The girl who is assumed to be Delilah is eventually found after 11 years of being held in a basement and the police start investigating what happened to her. Her story is hard to read, as she was abused in a bad way while she was growing up in the basement. As the story unfolds, we find out what happened to all three females. I was very shocked at who the perpetrator was. I thought I had it all worked out, but I was wrong, but this is good as I like to be shocked. The ending of the book is also quite shocking and a bit unbelievable, but I loved it! This is a great story which I didn't want to put down as it was so exciting and thrilling and I was desperate to find out what happened next.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and negalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
