Color me VERY VERY INTRIGUED! This was only a small sampler but there's already so much to love here. The writing style is amazing (even though in this version there are a looot of typing mistakes and the "f" and "fr" letters are somehow missing in a lot of words, but they will be fixed in the finished product I'm sure), the vibes are very modern gothic, eerie and mysterious.
The characters are promising so far, with all three sisters having very distinct and different personalities and sexualities. Iris does seem a little "typical" as far as protagonists go, but that might change during the rest of the story that I didn't get to read just yet.
The underlying mystery of what happened to the sisters years ago combined with the new mystery of what is happening with the oldest sister Grey right now is intriguing and exciting. I will definitely get this book as soon as it is out.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a BOOK SAMPLER of this title in exchange for an honest review.
I want to be very clear that I have only read a sampler of this book and therefore cannot give a rating or proper review just yet. I have read a book from Krystal Sutherland before and after seeing the cover and synopsis I was very intrigued. However, I wasn't completely sold on whether this book would be for me or not. So when I saw that you could request to read a book sampler, this was the best way for me to work out whether it would be a book I would enjoy and want to pick up when the book is released.
From the short section of the book I was able to read, the story follows three Hollow sisters; Iris, Grey and Vivi. Something happened to them years ago and they have no memory of the event. Strange things happen around the Hollow sisters and when Grey goes missing, Iris and Vivi try to find her.
This book is eerie and mysterious and I was both curious and confused but I think that is the point of the story. Straight away all three sisters are very different and memorable characters and of course the book sampler ended at just a place where the story was starting to take off and I really wanted to continue reading.
So, I think I have my answer. When this book comes out, I will be picking it up to find out what happens next.
The cover of House of Hollow is gorgeous and I really enjoyed this fascinating sampler. As I read, it intrigued me more and more. What are these girls, what happened to them all those years ago, why does Iris seem so different from her two older sisters?
Plenty of weirdness has surrounded the Hollow sisters since an event many years ago. But lately Iris feels like she's almost got some normality, until her sisters are back in town. Now a strange man with antlers keeps appearing around Iris, and then Grey doesn't show up to meet them...
I can tell this is going to be one of those un-putdownable books and I cannot wait to read the rest!
oh my god, April can't come quick enough!
The sample sets the scene for HOUSE OF HOLLOW, introduces us to our main characters and the witchy, dark world they're living in. The sample stops right at the mystery though, leaving me wanting more for this book.
I can't wait to read more about Iris, Vivi and Grey, and the mystery surrounding the Hollow sisters.
This book has been on my radar for a while now and I have been looking forward to the release of it.
This sampler was really good and I can't wait to be able to read the whole book as I really enjoyed reading these pages.
I will be picking up the whole book when it gets released.
Krystal Sutherland’s urban fantasy is a decadently dark and enchantingly creepy Modern fairy tail, the setting is hauntingly lush and undeniably creepy. I absolutely loved how vividly descriptive it was and cannot wait to find out what happens to the Hollow sisters.
I love urban fantasy and the dark fairytale vibe here was wonderful, very reminiscent of Holly Blacks’ work- only darker (which I LOVE). As a Londoner I also loved the little mentions of some of my fave spots in the city. Honestly,80 pages wasn’t enough!
Any one who loves dark fantasy, urban fantasy or is a fan of Holly Black is gonna love this.
This is the beautifully written, chilling story of Iris, Vivi and Grey, three sisters who mysteriously disappeared for a month when they were younger. It appears that the story is going to be narrated from the perspective of the younger sister Iris, the only one of the sister's who still lives at home with their mother Cate.
The pages of this sampler were permeated with a spine chilling sense of menace and the reader is captivated by the author's writing from the first page.
I really can't wait to read what happens next.

I read this sampler and headed straight over to preorder this book. The writing was deliciously addictive and the plot intriguing me to the point I need more, right now!
Once you get used to this excerpt having an awful lot of words and letters missing, particularly ‘ft’ and ‘ff’, this starts off really well. The 3 Hollow sisters. Grey, Vivi and Iris, are scarred, having been kidnapped when they were children, returning a month later, remembering nothing of what happened. They know they are different and each treat this strangeness differently.
This is an interesting twist on a horror story, a nursery rhyme cum fantasy. It’s very dark, but enticing, atmospheric and strange. Everything you want in this genre. It certainly has me hooked, can’t wait to see where this goes. 3.5 *, mainly because of the typographical mistakes. However I have great hopes for the whole book.
Thank to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this excerpt.
Note that this is not a rating based on the book or the sample! I do believe there's been a mistake made somewhere because the promised 80 page sampler is just a single page saying 'to be continued'.
I was so excited to read the first 80 pages of one of my anticipated reads for 2021!! Then there wasn’t any pages......only a ‘to be continued’ page and no actual sampler. Gutted to say the least!!! Guess I’ll have to wait another few weeks
