This is another great Sheila O'Flanagan novel. At first it feels like your standard chick-lit (nothing wrong with that), but actually it's a whole lot more. Delphie, the main character, has a lot to deal with throughout the novel, from the death of loved ones, to career choices and romantic decisions. It's a real rollercoaster of emotions for her, and for you as the reader, and in fact I found myself shouting at the book a few times!

Whilst the globe trotting backdrop and luxury lifestyles are beyond most of us, it works well as post-pandemic escapism. This is a great read for the warmer weather, even if you can't get to a sun lounger!

Empowerment, recognising your own strengths and acknowledging exactly what makes you happy whilst not bowing to family pressures and expectations are just some of the themes embraced by Sheila O’Flanagan in her latest novel. The eye catching cover and title suggests there will be much cause for celebration in a storyline peppered with good old Irish charm, banter, humour, friendship and romance. However beneath the lighthearted surface lies a romantic tale with a difference, one that will instead surprise you by its hidden depths and its fiercely independent female characters.

Delphie Mertens is a career girl at heart, her senior role at investment company Cosecha, working closely alongside CEO Conrad a dream come true. On a personal level her life is almost perfect too, relegating romantic relationships to the back seat, so you can consider this character relatively happy with her lot. As part of a large Irish family she leaves the business of marriage and children to her siblings despite their constant nagging, imploring her to ‘settle down’. When confronted with the task of finding a plus one to take to her brother Andre’s imminent wedding Delphie’s life is thrown into disarray by the resurfacing of an ex coupled with an unexpected tragedy. Suddenly Delphie is given no alternative but to re-evaluate and question her life choices so far, wondering whether she should pay more attention to her love life than she’s previously considered necessary. It’s this sense of facing a reality check that establishes Delphie as someone who gradually realises she is in complete control of her destiny, both professionally and personally.

Sheila O’Flanagan has written some strong female characters to drive home the message that a woman’s happiness doesn’t necessarily have to revolve around having a husband and children and I applaud her for doing so. In an era when having it all can come at a hefty price Delphie is a great role model for the belief that happiness comes from within and it takes courage and steeliness to follow your own rules. I loved this character for resisting mounting pressure from her family to conform to their own ideas of happiness, an admirable accomplishment given none of them waste any opportunity to voice their own disapproval of Delphie’s single status. Obviously this is all dealt with a lightness of touch so for all the jesting from members of the Mertens clan you know it comes from the heart of a loving family. I liked that this is a woman who’s comfortable in her own skin and despite her obvious wobbles stays true to herself. As the novel progresses Delphie’s upright moral character shines through in every situation she encounters; her diplomacy and negotiation skills are some of her best assets, qualities that are utilised to maximum effect when finding herself piggy in the middle between Conrad’s wife Martha and his much younger new partner Bianca. Best friends Erin and Sheedy back up the theory that it is strong, determined, intelligent women who rule this storyline with male characters playing secondary roles, staying firmly out of the spotlight. Every challenge, every dilemma these women face is met with bravado, a sense of humour and a desire to do the right thing by one another. Basically the sky’s the limit when it comes to achieving great things; anything is possible!

Although romance is scattered throughout the novel I welcomed the author’s decision to not make it the be all and end all of Delphie’s adventures as she negotiates the inevitable ups and downs that love, life, career and family throw her way. In this type of fiction, however strong and independent the lead female is portrayed, there’s still an expectation that bagging a rich and/or handsome partner is the absolute pinnacle of success. I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that’s what I bargained for when I opened this book so to meet a character like Delphie, her fellow musketeers and Marta and Bianca is an invigorating change and an agreeable departure from the norm.

Sheila O’Flanagan’s writing offers her readers an uplifting and heartening storyline where love, friendship and kindness prevail, all qualities conducive to leaving the reader feeling happy and energised. There’s a reason why she’s such a popular author; her flair for creating wonderful characters experiencing relatable problems/circumstances is what compels you to pick up each new novel, knowing these figments of her imagination will be handled with empathy, positivity and warmth. She avoids falling into the trap of allowing her storylines to verge towards silliness and absurd comic interludes that often romantic fiction relies upon, especially when it comes to wedding storylines. Not that I’m saying I don’t enjoy those novels (because I do!!) but from Sheila O’Flanagan you can expect a more emotionally intelligent read. So why did I finish this novel feeling slightly underwhelmed when I should have felt euphoric and heartened by the ending? All the characters are well developed, it’s well written and easy to read but there’s a vital ingredient missing (that I can’t pinpoint! ) to make me go “ wow this is a 5 star read” rather than the 4 I’ve opted for. Perhaps it’s the sparsity of humour and the lack of pizazz to make the narrative truly sparkle and the fact none of the characters, not even Delphie inspired my heartfelt devotion. Nonetheless I enjoyed it all the same and would recommend to others looking for something outside of the usual romantic tale. My thanks as always to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read in exchange for an honest review.

I usually know within the first couple of chapters how much I’m going to enjoy a book but I knew within the first 2 pages that this was one I was going to struggle to put down.
The story is set in Dublin and is about Delphine who comes from a close family back ground and who’s family is desperate for her settle down and get married.
When Delphine is at the wedding of her brother she gets a phone call which turns her whole life upside down.
Delphine lives for her job and works hard for her employer and friend Conrad but suddenly everything changes and she finds herself with lots of changes.
An old boyfriend Ed comes back into Delphine’s life and suddenly what she never seemed important changes.
The story also takes us to Spain where she enjoys a holiday/business trip with her 2 friends.
A fantastic story which I enjoyed right up to the last page.
Thank you Headline and NetGalley for an early copy of this book.

Sheila O,Flanagan has a great writing style. She writes well written books which draw the reader in. All the characters, love them or hate them are well rounded and stron and the story lines always have a few unexpected twists. This book is no exception, thoroughly enjoyable, great cast of characters, and a family drama to remember.

Three weddings and a proposal was a fabulous read and had me engaged from the first chapter.
Delphie, I found to be a very enjoyable and relatable character, she appears to have it all, the perfect job, fantastic friends and a nice home, however, no significant other which was fine until it came to the dreaded plus one invites and with no one to take due to people moving on with their life’s.
After unexpectedly bumping into an old flame and devastating news, as you can imagine the story turns into a real page turner abs a very enjoyable read.

Looking at the title I expected this to be a chic lit book.. I was wrong there is so much more to this book.
Delphie is a strong independent woman. She has a good job with a great salary, a house of her own and is happy with her lot . Her large Irish family can't understand why she is so content. She should be married, having babies or at least have a significant other in her life.
When Delphie brings an ex boyfriend to a family wedding the tongues start wagging and they are hoping she is at last ready to settle down.

When something unexpected happens at work Delphie finds herself without her anchor and begins to question her life. Has she wasted it being on call 24/7 for her boss. Should she have moved to a different job and climbed the career ladder earlier ? Now she finds herself between two waring women trying to be loyal to her boss and do the right thing.

I really enjoyed this book. My heart went out to Delphie and I did worry that some of the things she was asked to do by Martha were going to get her in deep trouble especially when she went to Mallorca.
There is plenty of love interest and a case of will she, won't she throughout the story.
I liked the way things turned out for Delphie , it was not what I was expecting and it feels like it could lead to a sequel , which would be lovely.

This book is so well written and engaging from the outset. The characters are well formed and believable and the story that unfolds is engaging and felt both familiar and fresh at the same time.
A great book club or holiday read.

I haven't read very many of Sheila's books, she is a relatively new author to me so was looking forward to reading this. It certainly didn't disappoint.
Delphine has it all, good job, great boss, her own home and happy with her own company until one day her boss dies and she is caught between his mistress and his wife, she is pushed out of her job and her family decide she needs a man
A great easy read

I used to read Sheila O'flanagans books all the time and I havent to admit until this one I hadnt read one of her books for a couple of years and I dont know why!
The writing was amazing! I loved it.

Here you meet Delphie, she's a strong independant woman with a great job, her own home and shee loves it so why do her family keep telling her she needs a husband and kids? Suddenly her boss dies and a chance meeting with her ex leaves her questioning do her family have a point and is she wrong to be happy jjust how she is?

I really enjoyed this and I will definitely be reading more of Sheila O'flanagan's books. This book takes you on a journey of discovery about what truly makes you happy. I have to ask though, did Luke have something to do with Delphie's decision at the end? Will we find out in a follow up book?

Delphie has a great life, a job she loves, a group of great friends, her perfect house and a boss she admires and works well with. When her brother asks for the name of her plus one for his wedding she is in trouble. She realises all her plus ones are off the market and she is left behind. On her way back from a business trip she meets an old flame and on impulse she asks him to be her plus one. Her family are surprised but delighted and keep dropping hints about another wedding in the future. But on the night she gets a call and her whole life falls asunder. She has to pick herself up, dust herself off and figure out what she really wants. She makes a few mistakes along the way but it all comes good in the end.
As always I really enjoyed Sheila O Flanagans latest book. She always writes great characters that you find yourself cheering for and Delphie is no exception

Ani deal holiday light-hearted read.

It was ok in that the story mentions that the pandemic has happened, the impact of this on individuals.

It was nice, escaping to a world where, there’s big weddings in castles, and you could fly away to places.

I really enjoyed the read and would recommend it.

“Three Weddings and a Proposal” is an enjoyable read by an author who knows how to develop interesting characters and always produces entertaining novels. If Mediterranean beach holidays had been allowed when I was reading this arc it would have been my perfect companion whilst sitting on a deck chair under the hot sun. Even if I can’t be sunning myself in the Med at the moment my reading material is making me feel like I’m on holiday!
Delphie is the main protagonist in this story. She appears to have it all, the perfect job working for a wonderful boss who thinks the world of her, a beautiful home and some great best friends. The only gap in her life is a significant other but she enjoys her own company and is in no rush to settle down despite her family’s hints and expectations.
On the way back from visiting her boss, Conrad who is in his holiday home in Spain, Delphie runs into an old boy friend on the aeroplane. Her brother is getting married and she needs to find a plus one for the wedding so she decides to invite him. However in the middle of the wedding Delphie receives some devastating news and then things move very quickly in a downward cycle.
I enjoyed reading about Delphie’s career as much as I liked to hear about her love life. She is a well drawn and interesting character, a strong woman with a soft side that she does her best to keep hidden whilst working in a very male environment. Her boss sounds wonderful and her extended Irish family are a delight.
I loved the descriptions of Dublin- I’ve never visited but it’s definitely on my post pandemic list. The Mediterranean interludes were also great and made me feel as if I was on holiday even if I was only sitting in my own living room.
This was one of those books that I read really quickly and I had to force myself to slow down so I didn’t finish it in a single day- I wanted to extend the escape from my normal daily routine for a bit longer.
This is a five star read and comes recommended. If you’ve read Sheila O’Flanagan’s other books you will definitely enjoy this and if you haven’t read any before please give this one a try as you won’t be disappointed.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my arc in exchange for an honest review.

Nicely written in a writing style that I found very easy to read, this was a good book to just chill with.
I would definitely recommend this book to any fans of the chick-lit genre.

At the first wedding, there's a shock

The second wedding is unexpected

By the third, Delphie thinks nothing could surprise her. But she's wrong . . .

Delphie is enjoying her brother's wedding. Her surprise last-minute Plus One has stunned her family - and it's also stopped any of them asking again why she's still single. But when she sees all the missed calls that evening, she knows it can't be good news. And she's right.

Delphie has been living her best life, loving her job, her friends, her no-strings relationships and her dream house by the sea. Now she has to question everything she believed about who she is and what she wants. Is her mum right - is it time to settle down? Or does she want to keep on trying to have it all?

Each wedding of a glorious summer brings a new surprise. And as everything Delphie thought she had is threatened, she has the chance to reshape her future . . .

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a review copy of this book in return for an honest review..

I enjoyed this book, it was current in that it mentioned the pandemic and as always with a Sheila O'Flanagan you can feel yourself at the location due to the excellent writing.

As always with Sheila's writing it's enjoyable, sometimes emotional and based around relationships. A writer whose books I will read without waiting to read the synopsis because I k now I will spend an engrossing 4-5 hours in whichever country she takes us to.

An easy, quick read but I enjoyed this. A tad predictable (as most chick lits are!) but I liked the main character and that she was intelligent and had a career of her own. The ending felt rushed though.

Thanks to NetGalley for my review copy.

A really enjoyable story centred around the main character, Delphie, and her family and friends.

Delphie loves her job as executive assistant working for one of Ireland's wealthiest men. She arranges his travel, deals with business deals, and is basically his right-hand woman, very switched on and a lot cleverer than the current position she is in. But she loves her job and gets on great with her boss. But her family keep thinking she should have more in her life than just her job, even though she's perfectly happy, and it does get a bit wearing the way they go on all the time about how she needs to 'settle down' and get married/have babies etc.

Then during a flight home from visiting her boss in his house in Majorca she bumps into an old flame, Ed, and they start seeing one another again. Her family all loved him previously and they slowly get very close again. But is Delphie just going along with things because she thinks she should or because she really wants to?

But then a tragedy happens and Delphie's secure life is thrown into chaos. But sometimes it takes something monumental happening to make you reassess your life, which is what happens to Delphie.

I really enjoyed this book, very easy-reading with lots going on to keep your interest, definitely a page turner. I also thought the ending was just right and didn't just take the easy route of what you may expect. I loved it!
