Welcome to Ferry Lane Market by Nicola May os a wonderful, heartwarming, and perfect contemporary romance that I really enjoyed.
This is the first book I have read from Ms. May, and I have enjoyed this so much, that I cannot wait to read more.
This is the first book in a new series and wow will this series be impressive. It centers around the charming town of Hartmouth, Cornwall and the author’s ability to describe this location, the landscapes, the town’s inhabitants, the Ferry Lane Market, and the flora were just spot on.
I love that Kara Moon is in her mid-thirties. She is old enough to have experienced ups and downs and wrong turns. Just when it seems she is swimming in another down moment, a series of uplifting mysteries and lessons pop in to keep her afloat. Through these moments she finds what truly matters, and begins to find out who she truly is.
There is: love, loss, friendship, family, surprises, and love. Heartwarming and bittersweet moments take place (and a little James Bond action, too lol).
An excellent book and start to what is sure to be an excellent series. Highly recommend.
5/5 stars
Thank you NG and Hodder & Stoughten for this wonderful arc and in return I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review and opinion.
I am posting this review to my GR and Bookbub accounts immediately and will post it to my Amazon, Instagram, and B&N accounts upon publication.
Nicola May is a new writer to me and I am so very glad I was given the opportunity to read this.
This is the first book in the Ferry Lane series and focuses on Kara, who works in her local florist whilst keeping an eye on her father and grandfather. When she discovers her boyfriend has been cheating on her, she ends the relationship but finds she needs extra income to help pay the mortgage and sets up her home as an AirBnB.
This has a great set of characters, from Kara herself to her best friend Star, and Billy, as well as some local characters and guests who become new friends.
This book includes a taster of the next book and I really look forward to reading this too.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me an ARC of this book in exchange for my review.
A lovely book to take on holiday with you, a pleasure to read. Tells the story of Kara Moon whose boyfriend of 8 years leaves her, taking with him all her savings. She works in a florist shop and her father runs the local ferry in Hartmouth, Cornwall and this is the tale of her picking herself up and running a bed and breakfast.
What a book!! such lovely read and I was overjoyed to find out that it is the start of a series. What a treat it was to find this out at the end. I am new to Nicola May books, it will not be my last. Thank you to Netgalley and Hodder&Stoughton for allowing me to read this book as a arc in exchange for an honest review.
This book is a heart warming story about Kara Moon. After finding out that her boyfriend has cheated on her and spent their savings, its now time for Kara to start living her life. She dumps him and starts renting a room in her apartment as an Airbnb. We meet some of the visitors and they all seem to help Kara in their own way. It is a journey of self-discovery and adventure, it keeps you guessing to the very end.
The characters that are in this book are so strong, she has a lovely relationship with her Father and Grandfather and the residents of Hartmouth in Cornwall make you want to go and visit for a holiday to meet them. The description in the book brings the town alive and I really feel like I have been there.
The book is split in 2 technically, it is about her life at the beginning and how she is trying to change it after the end of her 8 year relationship. After some time, postcards arrive that lead her on an amazing journey, what is all this about? who has arranged this? It kept me guessing until the very end.
I didn't want this book to end, however, it is so good to see that there will be more and we can find out about the lives of the other amazing residents of Hartmouth. I cannot wait!!!
Kara dumps her long term boyfriend after catching him cheating on her, to help make end meet she tends out a room in her flat via Airbnb. After the first few guests she then receives a post card, together with a plane ticket to New York. This starts a series of events which help her find out more about herself, her family and friends.
Set in my favourite part of the world, Cornwall, the story did grow on me as it went along. There was a very poignant moment with her grandfather and his dog that did get to me, but this was interspersed with humour and romance. I'm not sure that I would have the courage to travel on my own as Kara did, but she was helped along the way. There are some incomplete storylines however this is the first book in a series so there is plenty of scope for these to develop and I'm really looking forward to reading the next one. Some slightly spicy scenes that some readers may not like.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.
Thank you NetGalley, Nicola May and Hodder & Stoughton for the ARC of Welcome tto Ferry Lane. This is my personal review.
The best book to read are the ones that hook you and you just read until you are done. This was one of those books for me. I was taken to Ferry Lane and stay with Kara getting to know everyone there and all others places she goes.
Kara Moon has a life that as it turns backwards and forwards and up and down but she is on a journey in life that she makes so interesting.
This is a book that will have you wondering what they are all doing long after you finish the last page.
This book is wonderful & I’m so pleased to find it is the first in a series as I feel I already know the characters so well & have grown attached to them and the lovely seaside village in which they live.
An interesting storyline following Kara as she begins to find, and like, herself after 8 years in a very negative relationship and 20 years after being abandoned by her mother when she was 13.
Really well written with fully formed & believable characters, the storyline is good and held my interest throughout. The story is touching and rather moving at times where I found myself shedding a few tears along with Kara.
A thoroughly enjoyable book, I can’t wait for the next in the series (3 chapters of it at the end of this book and I’m already hooked!)
Loved reading this book, fantastic start to this new series; cannot wait to read the next instalment
A lovely book set in a small town in Cornwall which is wonderful and makes me smile to start.
The book is about Kara and her friends.
A fabulous summer read
This book made me smile and remember that being loved and appreciated is all we need. The author's sense of humour comes through clearly and the dialogue between the characters is beautiful, honest and funny. The story is based in a small seaside town in Cornwall and centres around Kara , her family and her friends. The opportunity of an adventure allows her to see that she is loved, she is valued and that big bottom girls are beautiful..
Wonderful, feel good book. First book in the series, and I am looking forward to more.
Kara finally wakes up and dumps her long time boyfriend, Jargo, finally deciding to make changes in her life. The journey to find her happiness will lead the reader through a path of wonderful friends, beautiful scenery and some surprising discoveries.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Welcome to Ferry Lane by Nicola May a five-star read you will love to the moon and back. This is number one in the series and the first story that I have read by this author and I really hope it won’t be the last, as I really enjoyed the storytelling and felt swept away on a tugboat of wonder. This story will take you on a journey, both literal and emotional. Kara Moon will make you care about her, she has this amazing passion about her that sucks you in, her love of flowers and Ferry Lane will just make you fall in love with the words on the page. All of the characters are so sublime and well done, I can’t wait to find out more about them. There are a couple I am so eager to hear about, like the mysterious Monique, and the deliciously creative Frank, but most of all its Star I am eager to hear about, as she already has a story to tell and I feel like we are just getting to the really good bits.
Another 'corker' written by Nicola May. I do love this authors books. Kara Moon dumps the live in boyfriend Jago after finding out he has been cheating on her. Their relationship was contriolled by Jago & Kara needs to live life her own way. Her family are getting on with their lives but Kara finds it difficult after her mother walked away from them when she was 13 years old. Read about Kara moving forward with some surprising outcomes. A lovely read & now I want Nicola's next book!
A delightful escape book, light easy read and full of joy. Well written with delightful characters and a perfect mix of friendship, hope, family, love, feelgood warmth all tied up with a touch of humour. A good pace not bogged down in detail, set in an idyllic location making this an ideal holiday book to curl up with. A resounding 5 stars for a brilliant holiday read.
Absolutely brilliant. First time that I have read Nicola May and this is the first in a new series. I will definitely be reading more from her. This is all about family and friendship and the different relationships within. All starts in a small town in Cornwall, ending with a trip of a lifetime and a mystery to solve as to who has sent Kara on this trip. The story ends up back in Cornwall with Kara having discovered herself and what she wants. I could not put this down and can’t wait for the next instalment. #FerryLaneMarket #NetGalley #GoodReads
Although thirty-three-year-old Kara Moon loves her hometown of Hartmouth in Cornwall, she has always wondered if she should have followed her dream of going off to study floristry. But she couldn't bring herself to abandon her emotionally delicate single father, and has worked on Ferry Lane Market's flower stall ever since leaving school.
When her good-for-nothing boyfriend cheats on her and steals her life savings, she finally dumps him and rents out her spare room as an Airbnb. Gossip flies around the town as Kara welcomes a series of foreign guests to her flat overlooking the estuary.
Then an anonymous postcard arrives, along with a plane ticket to New York. And there begins the first of three trips of a lifetime, during which she will learn important lessons about herself, her life and what she wants from it - and perhaps find love along the way.
A lovely feel good story that I didn't want to end. I read it in a day as I couldn't put it down, Would love to read the next episode now.
A wonderfully heart-warming start to a new series by bestselling author, Nicola May-such a great summer read I literally couldn’t put this down.
After finding out her dead beat boyfriend is cheating on her and has spent all of her savings,Kara Moon finally dumps him and starts renting out her flat on Air BnB. Then a series of postcards begin to arrive which lead her on three very life changing trips, teaching her some very valuable life lessons, and finding love along the way.
It’s set in Cornwall,in a town called Hartmouth and centring on the town’s infamous Ferry Lane Market- where Kara works as a florist. The warmth and friendship from this small community was written so well,Ferry Lane and it’s inhabitants felt truly alive. I loved Kara, her best friend Star and Kara’s mischievous grandfather, Harry. Her cat James Bond is equally as mischievous and I couldn’t help but laugh at some of his antics.
The mystery surrounding the identity of the post card (and plane ticket) sender was interesting, I suspected a few of the characters and was very happy when the identity of the sender was finally revealed. I also really enjoyed the (very satisfying) ending and cannot wait to read the rest of the series.
An uplifting tale of hope, friendship and family- there were moments that made me laugh and cry but I really enjoyed it, Nicola May is such an incredible writer I cannot believe I haven’t read any of her books before.
And also a massive thank you to Hodder&Stoughton and NetGalley for the ARC
There is a saying that goes something like this: No one is going to come along and save you, you need to save yourself. That applies to the main character in this book. She is such a sweetheart and always ready to help everyone around her, but she puts herself at a low priority. After eight years in a relationship that was not good for her, she finally breaks it off. That leads to a new life full of adventures she never would have thought she would experience.
This was the first book I have read by Nicola May, but it certainly will not be the last! I enjoyed her writing style so much. Her character development is amazing and I feel like I know the people in this story so well. She created a unique plot that was a page turner. I am thrilled that this is the beginning of a new series.
I will be reading her other books in the future. I know they will be wonderful from my experience with Welcome to Ferry Lane Market!
I want to thank NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for giving me the pleasure of reading the advance reader copy, with no obligation to write a review. My review is written freely as a hobby, and is totally my own opinion, not influenced by receiving the ARC.
I loved the Cockleberry Bay series of book's by Nicola May and I definitely wasn't disappointed with Welcome To Ferry Lane Market.
It follows the story of Kara Moon and her ups and downs.
You get to meet different characters on her journey, which I'm looking forward to learning more about in the next book.
Loved this book and sad I've finished it.
Kara has lived in the seaside town of Hartmouth Cornwall all her life. She then discovers her boyfriend has been cheating on her and throws him out. Kara also is fed up with her employer treating her like a skivvy. Not read this author before but will certainly be looking out for more of her books
