My absolute favorite activity from the book begins with your child gathering up a number of his favorite small toys, some paper, a pencil, and a ruler. Then the two of you head outside to a sunny spot and some advanced math learning ensues.

Are you wondering what to do with the ruler? Oh, for that you have to buy the book, or request it from your local library!

But I have to say, I think you will much prefer to purchase your own copy!

If you are looking for a gentle, engaging way to introduce math concepts to your preschooler, look no further than the title from Busy Little Hands called "Math Play!" From the adorable animal characters on the cover to the wildly colorful pages within, your child cannot help but be enthralled. I love the idea that parents can set the stage for becoming aware of the math this is literally all around us.

At the very beginning, the authors speak into a child's life, offering fun ideas that involve math. And parents and teachers are provided a reference at the back explaining how each of the activities in the book helps reinforce concepts related to measurement, geometry, numbers, and patterns.

Using common objects found within the home, parents and children can explore the wonders of math. Children won't even realize learning is happening. I highly recommend this book for parents or grandparents who have a preschooler in their life. What a magnificent way to engage a child in active play and learning without relying on a screen!

This bright and user friendly book gives a lot of approachable ideas for parents and teachers of young children. A lot of these activities would do well at home, at a preschool, or in a public library. I could see some of these ideas, especially the town of boxes, appealing to my own two children now who are four and seven. Lots of ideas to choose from which easy to follow explanations and visuals.

Excellent resource for families with preschoolers. Dauksas presents a series of math activities that will challenge young children and hold their interest. Many of these activities are open ended so families can build on them for future fun and learning. The needed materials are included at the end of the book along with directions and information for adults. I like that each activity offers a brief section on adult prep so families can take care of that before introducing the concept to children.

Young children explore math concepts early on through play and everyday experiences. This book gives you practical activities and words to develop those necessary early foundational math skills.

Using everyday items around the house, you help children explore math concepts of naming shapes, making comparisons, sorting, finding patterns, building, counting and more. The activities are engaging, yet simple, and most take very little preparation.

Before diving into the activities, I suggest you jump to the end of the book and read the “Notes For Big People” that includes an insightful discussion of math concepts and how children think about them. Also included at the end of the book are number cards, shape cards, and stickers to use with the activities.

I was initially disappointed that this book only included 20 activities. But in doing activities with my toddler grandson, I realized this book is teaching me to recognize the everyday learning opportunities in play and with that focus in mind, I am able to identify other activities on my own. This is not a curriculum. It’s as much about teaching me as teaching my grandson.

Math Play encourages little ones to see math in the world around them. The book so an even better tool for parents with the many notes to grownups throughout. There are ,any project ideas incorporating math concepts such as counting or size. It is great for providing ideas for parents who don’t know where to start or how to help their children at home. Recommended for ages 3 through 5.

I think this book is lovely for any new early childhood education teachers or new parents (by new parents I mean even time a family gets pregnant, not their very first child) it has a lot of cool and fun, low cost, do it at home ideas that's can turn any afternoon into fun time

This book is ideal for parents of pre-school children who want to develop their children’s maths skills while having fun. Packed full of practical fun activities and suggestions this book will start to develop children’s fundamental maths skills. This book will also be of interest to teacher’s of early years children as it gives plenty of ideas that could be used in class. While the ideas aren’t really anything new they are great reminders of how maths can be practical and fun. The pictures also enhance this book with clear examples and suggestions.

The cover is eye catching which makes you want to read it. This book is brilliant. It is full of super easy but engaging tasks to do with young children to help develop them in their maths knowledge. I love how the tasks can be further developed and how real photos aswell as illustration's are used to show the activity. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this fab book.

Such a cute and fun book full of simple ideas with supplies I already have in my home. Fun images to go along with the instructions. Practical and creative. I love that it encourages kids to use math in gross motor activities, table top activities and social activities. Very well rounded.

This is perfect for early years teachers looking for more ideas for practical maths specifically designed to suit the age 2-5 developmental stage.

This activity book is full of maths activities for early years aged children to support them in their development. The activities involve counting, number recognition, shapes, size, weight, patterns, sorting, problem solving and more, giving the readers and little learners. Vast variety of options to choose from, to keep the little ones entertained. The book contains illustrations and real life picture/examples which prompt and instruct on how to do the activity on the page, alongside its text. This gives the children chance to follow them independently, particularly those who do not have the ability to understand the words. The text has additional information for the adults to help them prepare for the activity and in supporting the children involved.

This cleverly designed book would be perfect for the bookshelf’s of young children, providing them with many learning opportunities and activities for them to explore and enjoy. They are easy enough to do at home as they can be set up using resources available in the home, so no need to go out and spend money on additional items. This gives parents the chance to observe some of the amazing thing their child can already do and gives them the opportunity to join in on their learning experience, sharing it with them.

As an early years educator this book provides great examples of simple mathematical play that will benefit a child in the development. It uses activities that are often used in early years settings, I know many we use in my own (although slightly different but with the same outcomes) and the book would make a lovely addition for settings to use either as a go-to for activity ideas, to introduce less experienced workers to activities in this development area or for the children to have access to to explore and use independently within their setting.

I can't recommend this book enough! I love learning and I am a Math geek. I see math everywhere and love helping children develop early mathematical skills and set the foundation that learning math is fun.

Busy Little Hands: Math Play! has inspired me. I deliver a virtual program and I loved how some of the materials used are common household items, which makes it easier to facilitate the activities virtually.

I particularly loved the illustrations and resources at the end. In person, I can see myself leaving the book out as a provocation and allowing children to choose their activity.

I will be using it in my classroom and recommending it to parents / friends with younger children
