The picture book is beautifully illustrated. The text is simple yet tells a child the many ways that a tree can do. At the end of the book is a list telling us what trees are portrayed in the book. It also gives a question asking if you can find the tree in the book. It is an excellent book to learn from and exquisite to look at.
I've been on the hunt lately for really good children's books. This one fits the bill!
First, the illustrations are darling. And yes, that matters! The artwork in children's books are half the reason I look for them. I loved how this was illustrated.
The book lays out many ways trees serve, and some of the purposes they have. It was super cute, and I loved the gratitide focus. Like a lot.
I also liked the fact that it's trees/plants/outdoors. The message is just a good one. This will be added to my "list of books to gift at baby showers." And added to my kids' personal collection.
This is a sweet and simple book that would be a good introduction for toddlers to learn about trees and how they benefit us. I think this would be a useful book in my classroom, I like it's simplicity.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Excellent, easy to read, and a great message all in this tiny board book. Love it.
"Thank You, Tree" is a baby's first introduction to gratitude for a plant that is often taken for granted-- despite how much trees contribute to our lives. The illustrations are lovely, and at the end the names of the trees shown are listed, so toddlers can go back through and learn to identify the type of tree. This book is very sweet!
The book was beautifully illustrated with many children of different ethnicities included. The trees were lovely throughout the book.
The words weren’t the most inspired but they were nice and simple and the style, repetition and typeset are perfect for prompting reading along.
At the end of the book there was a “can you find these trees?” section with each tree drawn and labelled. I was waiting for this from the start, and it is why I wanted to read this book. I think I would have preferred that illustration begin the book, as opposed to/in addition to ending it. I was reading and wondering which tree was which, hoping to be able to say with each page the tree while reading. The reader should have been given the tools from the outset for identification, rather than at the end.
Despite that this book is definitely on my list to buy for babies and toddlers. It’s great encouragement for those less tree inclined to begin the path to recognition & for experts, a wonderful way to share that with the next generation. I read a digital copy, which may be a limitation of this review.
This is such a great book for babies and young children. The illustrations are beautiful and the text is appropriate. I love anything that will encourage a love of nature in children and this will Certainly do that, as we read through the pages we look at how great trees are. I love the simple statements and the pictures that accompany them. This is great to prompt discussions and ask questions. This book shows us how great trees are in a fun and engaging way children will relate to. Lovely bedtime reading book, and I think this would be great for a forest school session with pre school children, A great resource for discussion In a group and then have fun doing some of the fun things mentioned in the book.
This is a really special book. Children seem to have a general appreciation for nature and this book gives them a sweet way to express gratitude for all that trees give us. I would definitely buy this book as a gift for young children. It's beautifully written and illustrated.
The publisher made a copy of this book available via Netgalley. This is my honest review.
This is a lovely little board book which encourages children to be thankful for trees. The book demonstrates everything trees provide for us (beautiful colours, juicy fruit, shelter for birds, places to hide etc.) This book could be read at the start of a new plants/nature topic in an Early years or nursery setting or just enjoyed by young children at home. My son loved looking at all the gorgeous illustrations and talking about the pictures. There is a tree spotting guide at the end of the book which is a great addition.
Thank you NetGalley and Storey Publishing for this eArc.
Thank You, Tree is a beautifully written and illustrated book reminding children everything that trees do for us. My 4 year old son loved it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Storey Publishing for my ARC.
In this book, children are taught to be grateful for trees. For its shade, or for its leafs. Sometimes we took trees for granted and pay little attention to them. But actually they provide us with nourishment, protection or even fun.
A nice book full of ideas for why we are grateful for trees which is nice to have in a book.
Great idea to hunt the trees at the end.
My only slight observation is whether it’s life like enough to encourage children to spot trees in real life. If it had been a bit more realistic maybe they’d carrying on spotting and thinking of trees
As an outdoor education teacher, I am always excited to see more books about trees! Thank You, Tree was a wonderful book about all the things trees provide us. It would also make a great book for talking about perspective as the book talked about the value of trees for more than just humans. The illustrations were lovely, I only wish the book had more to it. It was a good start!
Thank You Tree by Fiona Lee and published by Storey publishing. Thank you to Netgalley and Storey Publishing.
This is beautifully illustrated board book encouraging gratitude and nature.
Each double page spread is a pause from the busy pace of life to thank trees for some of their wonderfulness; for holding a bird nest, for providing branches to swing and climb on and for shade on a hot day.
This book makes you want to go and sit with your back on a tree trunk and personally thank it for all that it provides, much of which we may take for granted.
At the end of the book there is a tree spotting guide and a learning opportunity in the encouragement to spot the different species of trees within the book. This would be a beautiful addition to any young child’s library.
This is a beautiful book, with gorgeous evocative illustrations that make me want to go out and hug a tree! The message is simple and important, giving thanks to trees as sanctuaries and providers.
This is a beautiful book for Children spreading a love for trees. The book was well written and the language used was perfect for the age group it is recommended for. My son loved the idea of jumping in crunchy leaves and we talked about seasons and trees we have near to us. The book is beautifully illustrated too adding the extra element to the book. The 'look for these trees' at the end of the book is a great way to get children to engage further with the book and learn more about trees. I would love to see more similar books for my children about other topics and would gift/recommend this book to others.

I think the proof will be in the print with this one, it certainly has the potential to be a gorgeous book. The illustrations are beautiful, the sentiment too. – an opportunity to pause for a moment to appreciate nature and what the wonderful trees offer us. It's age appropriate in its content and my two children really liked the pictures and talking about the different trees we spend time with in our own life - snack trees, climbing trees, story trees and ones to shade under is a big one for us too - not big sun lovers here. It would definitely work with its toddler audience too.
The concept is really lovely and I thought the spot the trees page at the back was a nice touch.
It's definitely one (like most picture books) to hold in your hands, and with a quality print (board book suggests it will be) I imagine this will be a lovely book to own in terms of appearance.
I wonder if the text misses an opportunity a little in terms of the quality of the prose - even toddlers can appreciate the rhythm of flowing language, and it feels like the text doesn't quite meet the potential of the idea. But that's a personal opinion - others may like it's direct brevity.
Overall, though this is a lovely simple early years book exploring an aspect of world around us.
This book was so sweet! The illustrations are beautiful and very appealing to children. I read this book with my three year old, and she loved looking at the different trees. She even said, “I didn’t know that!” when we read about the maple syrup coming from a tree! I liked that there are a bunch of different kids on trees, and that at the end of the book they list what the trees are. My daughter and I would find a tree by looking at the pages like the book suggested and it was a fun little activity for her. I’d recommend this board book for young kids!
My daughter and I loved this book as we love trees and nature. The book has gorgeous illustrations and I loved the way the book shows us how to be grateful and say thank you to trees for the magnificent gifts they bless us with. I highly recommend this lovely little book.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and Net Galley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Be Thankful for Trees
This board book shows all the things that trees give us, from the tangible like food to eat to more esoteric ideas like the joy a Christmas tree brings. The book is mostly soft pastels and neutral colors with occasional bursts of color, much like nature itself. At the end of the book, the author shows and names several tree species and encourages the child to go back through the book and find the specific trees. The book is a gentle and lovely way to encourage environmentalism as well as an appreciation of nature. Perhaps it might also inspire a walk to discover trees near you. This is a fun book that does show why we should be thankful for trees.
