This story is about two friends, Bonnie & Dakota who have had lots go wrong lately but decide to answer an ad to go to Scotland for six months and run a coffee shop. Turns out the coffee shop isn't much, but soon becomes a project for Bonnie. Bonnie meets grumpy Rowan who is the son of the coffee shop owners. At first, they are at each other throats, but soon learn to like each other. Dakota also meets Isla, the bakery owner and begins a relationship with her. Lots of things happen and the girls grow to love their piece of Scotland and their significant others. Alright story, but wasn't wowed by it.

There was so much to love about this book. It's a little deeper than just an enemies to lovers romcom.
There is good banter, loads of sexual tension and plenty of laughs, but be prepared for a few tears too. Fans of MQ will appreciate her classic humor that shines throughout. The book is set in Scotland and has two girls from the States arriving to run a coffee shop for six months in a small picturesque town. Little did each of them know they would find love while there.

Rowan had made mistakes, but he also has made sacrifices for his family and town. He may look like the grumpy Scot who hates life but his true friends know that there are many layers to his personality. With a beautiful heart and soul, and a want to help others, even though he struggles to do so at times, he still is a very attractive man. Bonnie has made mistakes too, probably why she and Rowan have a connection, as well as both being a little lost. Although this doesn't stop Bonnie from trying new things or that her quirky, sassy and bright charm to dazzle everyone. Together, they were special, they helped each other along the way and both experienced some personal growth separately. It did wrap up somewhat quickly at the end, but I enjoyed the epilogue immensely. Will there be other books in this universe? Oh I hope so!

This was my first time reading anything from this author, and it won't be my last. This was a hilarious romance with added bonus of getting to experience scotland through the story.

My first experience reading Ms. Quinn's work was reading the entire "Getting Lucky" Series which I absolutely and totally adored. I have since read many of her other books so when The Highland Fling became available at NetGalley, I immediately requested it and I'm so glad I did! The first few chapters had me in stitches -- it's definitely a rom-com, heavy on the comedy! Bonnie and Dakota's first few days in their journey to Scotland were hilarious! I appreciated Bonnie's sense of humor and her ability to bounce back when life gets you down. Because of that, my heart ached for her when life throws more disappointment her way. I honestly wouldn't have picked Rowan as her romantic interest, but as they say, opposites attract. They definitely had chemistry but their connection ran much deeper than that. Bonnie and Dakota's friendship was refreshing and created a nice secondary storyline. There may be even a third storyline that adds to the character and depth of this read -- I don't want to ruin it so I'm not going to get into those aspects -- just read it! The humor was excellent, but there were many thought-provoking moments as well. I shed quite a few tears and not just from laughing. Very well done, well written book by Ms. Quinn. Unfortunately, I'm hungry for pastries and cake every day now! I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC for NetGalley.

I picked it up and put it down four times before I had to admit to myself that I wasn't loving it.

It had moments that gave me hope. But I think I'm a different reader than I was when I really enjoyed Meghan Quinn. The humor doesn't resonate with me anymore. And even though grumpy/sunshine is basically my ultimate favorite trope and I was really interested in learning more about Rowan, Bonnie drove me absolutely bonkers. She was immature and over-the-top and, like I said, I think I'm a different reader than I was when I could be patient enough with characters like that. to see how they evolved into someone who makes a good romance heroine.

In the end, I am calling it a DNF. I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to read and review, but I think this author may no longer be for me.

When I read the blurb for this book and I saw it was enemies to lovers/ grumpy sunshine I was yes!!! Gimme!! But as with many enemies to lovers books lately it didn't live up to my expectations and that's one me because this book was fun and very entertaining.
What was also a miss for me was Bonnie... I didn't like her much unlike Rowan! I adored him which was predictable because I adored grumpy but caring man.
The book was good and I totally recommend it even if it didn't live up to my (crazy) expectations.

I love it when a book or author can surprise me. Meghan Quinn is definitely a gifted romantic comedy writer. I know that I can expect laugh out loud moments that will have me snorting with laughter.

But this book brought some really deep emotions with it. And it snuck up on me. To be crying reading one paragraph, and laughing at the very next. She took me through the full range of emotions, and I loved it.

Rowen and Bonnie are so stubbornly gone for each other. Their banter, and Bonnie’s love of cake had me in stitches.

This is an excellent travel romantic comedy, but do be prepared with a few tissues, you’ll be glad in the end.

4.5 Star, I definitely recommend this book.

Im loving this author!! The first book I read by this author was The wedding game which was a 5 star book and this book did not disappoint!! I think Meghan Quinn is fast becoming one of my favourite go to authors!!
Will definitely be recommending this to my book clubs.

The story follows Bonnie and her best friend, Dakota as they traveled to Scotland to find themselves and their purpose when an opportunity to work in a coffee shop for 6 months came knocking at their door. There they met Rowan, a grumpy and indifferent giant on the outside, but a thoughtful and caring man deep down. Bonnie and Rowan are like two magnetic forces that pulls together. As they both spent more time together, they were not only able to develop a romantic relationship, but they were also able to help each other out with the problems of their past.
I am absolutely smitten with this enemies to lovers + rom-com book. I always have a thing for small town settings; time seems to be slower, and the characters seems to have a deeper emotional connection since they are unplugged from the city life. I love every character in this story, especially Bonnie; besides being a bubbly and quirky person (especially whenever she spots a cake; she’s a crazy cake monster), she also has a heart of gold. I don’t know how many times I’ve snorted because of Bonnie and Rowan’s hilarious banters. There were a lot of spicy scenes in the book, but nothing can top those moments where Bonnie and Rowan would know when the other needed a hug without having to say anything. I love the slow burn romance and how they both got pass within each other’s walls and healed each other’s hearts from their past.

I love Bonnie and Dakota’s strong bonded, no-filter friendship and how they were there for each other to lift each other up through thick and thin. Apart from that, the side characters in the story (especially Isla, Leich, Lachan, Shona, and Fergus the goat!) added life and humor to the storyline too.

Overall, this was a refreshing and beautiful story. I enjoyed it so much, that I couldn’t stop reading even if I wanted to. It was a well-paced story with a lot of laughers in between. I was happy on the way things turned out in the book; the character growth in the story was beautiful. The ending and the epilogue left me smiling like a goof.

My favorite part is that this is set in a small town in Scotland. It was so well described I felt like I was there. Also the great thing about small town romances is the many side characters you get.

I thought this was a very cute story. I liked all the characters and the slightly enemies-to-lovers trope. It wasn't overdone and it was mostly funny.

Bonnie was slightly crazy and maybe a bit immature, but I still liked her and she was a big reason I laughed a lot in this book.

Rowan was majorly grumpy and I do adore a grumpy hero. He did have a few actions that made it harder for me to believe he was falling for Bonnie, but then he would prove me wrong. While I liked him, he did have a few disappointing moments.

I thought it was fun the the author gave us a secondary romance in Dakota and Isla. The twins though...I would love to see them get a book.

I loved this. I really loved the characters and could identify with them. Bonnie is having an identity crisis and Dakota is trying to mend a broken heart. Add in some hot sexy men, and hairy highland cows and it’s a winner. However it was much more than that as Rowan was also dealing with his own demons and boy were they heartbreaking. Learning about his brother was bad enough but then his dad too, I really felt for him, and just like Bonnie I just wanted to hug him and make it all better. Those two were a perfect match, they brought out the best in themselves and each other and a firm friendship was created as well as a romantic relationship.

A wonderful summer read with some stunning Scottish landscape.

This is another great book from Megan Quinn. The two main characters are Bonnie and Dakota they live in California. Dakota sees an ad for a job opening for two people in Scotland. They apply for the jobs in a coffee shop and get the jobs. They meet their future partners and find true love.

4.5 stars. This was an interesting take on enemies to lovers and I loved it. Bonnie and Dakota decide to make a change in their lives and answer an ad to run a coffee shop….in Scotland. Rowen is the grumpy son the coffee house owners who likes to push Bonnie’s buttons. This was a great story of Bonnie and Rowen finding love, but also of Bonnie and Dakota’s friendship. This story has many different emotions since there are a lot of laughs but also is more heartfelt as you watch Bonnie trying to find her place in life. Definitely recommend this book.

Sounds crazy, but just crazy enough for Bonnie & Dakota to jump on the opportunity. The owners of the coffee shop are leaving for several months and tell the girls that their son, Rowan, will be overseeing things while they’re away.

Rowan & Bonnie immediately dislike one another. Rowan is beyond grumpy, Bonnie is outspoken and outgoing. They are like oil & water—they just don’t mix. But there’s an attraction between them that before long, they can’t deny…

The Highland Fling by Meghan Quinn is a grumpy/sunshine enemies to lovers romance with a traveling abroad aspect. If you enjoyed The Wedding Game that Meghan released earlier this year, I think you’d enjoy this, as the writing style of the two books was very similar. I love a lot of Meghan’s books, but her latest two with these particular type of covers kinda missed the mark for me. I found Bonnie to not be likable and she repeatedly made questionable decisions. I enjoyed Rowan’s grumpy character more, especially once I learned about his backstory. This was funny enough and cute, but it didn’t meet my expectations. 3.5/5 stars.

I really liked this fun romance. It’s set in Scotland, and the descriptions of the scenery had me checking out prices on plane tickets! A light and fun summer read that will leave you smiling with quirky characters and an interesting plot.

This book had everything you love about a Meghan Quinn romance...steam, laughs, a little angst, and more than a few tears! I connected with Bonnie in this book about feeling lost and not knowing what you want to do with your life. They way she connected with Rowan was so perfect...I loved these two together! Rowan has such a big heart, and I loved getting to see these two grow together over the course of the book. I loved all the side characters in Corsekelly, and would love to get more stories from them! Any fan of Meghan Quinn's will enjoy The Highland Fling!

Every time I see Meghan Quinn's releasing a new book I get excited. She's one of my auto-buy authors for a reason. I can always count on her to entertain me and make me laugh. That's exactly what she did in The Highland Fling. 

Bonnie was a ray of sunshine. She was awkward in some ways and clumsy, but normal and relatable. She tried to keep an upbeat attitude, even when things were going sideways. I loved being inside her mind. She was hilarious. Rowan was the grump. Life hadn't been easy under the weight of expectations and tragedy. He was a good man with good intentions and a great set of friends. Bonnie and Rowan didn't get off the on the greatest of starts, but I loved seeing their relationship go from a strong dislike to an infatuation to love. It was rocky, but so much fun! I adored them together. 

The Scotland setting was amazing and perfect for this romance. The town came to life with Quinn's descriptions. Who doesn't like hearing little tidbits about Scotland and its history in a fun and entertaining way? I also loved Quinn's addition of the language -- I don't know if it was correct because I don't have experience with it, but it was fun so I'm hoping it was. 

I said before Rowan's friends were amazing and they were. I loved the twins and Isla. They built a strong base behind Rowan's character. The rest of the small town residents added to the fun as well. I also loved how they mixed with Bonnie and her best friend, Dakota. It was fun to see Bonnie and Dakota's interactions, too. Their friendship was such a special one. It was so supportive. 

I don't have much else to say other than I truly adored this book. Meghan Quinn has done it again! It was a good time from beginning to end. I loved every minute of it and didn't want it to end. It's exactly what I would expect from this author.

I loved this book. I couldn’t put it down. It was sassy, funny and sad. I loved the characters and all the towns folk. It was a fun rom-com. It was an escape read & it was much needed.

I absolutely adored this story!! Author Meghan Quinn has written a perfect love story and staged it in a quaint Scottish village that couldn’t be more perfect! This story quickly drew me in, the characters are multi-dimensional, the plot is unique, and don’t even get me started on the sexy Scot with a starring role. I read this book, cover to cover, in one sitting — could not put the book down!

The MCs are Bonnie St. James (American from Los Angelas) and Rowan MacGregor, (sexy Scot from Corsekelly) - these two meet after Bonnie & her BFF respond to an advert to come to Corsekelly Scotland and run a family owned coffee shop for six months. Expecting to find a coffee house similar to Starbucks Bonnie & Dakota are shocked to arrive and find a run down establishment. They quickly find out the coffee house is barely serving any coffee nowadays and when it does it’s a plain cuppa coffee. If this isn’t alarming enough to these two coffee snobs, when Bonnie meets a gruffy Scotsman, with a body she would like to worship, she quickly finds out he loves to push her buttons. The chemistry between the MCs is palpable to the reader with the perfect amount of UST to fan the flames.

It’s easy to see Bonnie wants Rowan. Rowan wants Bonnie. Yet they both have some hang ups to work through and to be honest Rowan loves getting Bonnie riled up. I loved the banter between these two it kept the story from becoming too sappy.

Now the question is can these two figure out a way to get the HEA they both deserve? I think you will be pleasantly surprised at their outcome!

I highly recommend this book!!

I'm so on the fence with this. We mostly post our positive opinions on books. I hate trashing a book and usually if I'm not enjoying a book I'd rather put it down and read something else than finish it and tell people all the ways in which I didn't like it. I'm very much aware that just because I didn't like it doesn't mean it's a bad book, it just wasn't for me and that's absolutely where I sit with The Highland Fling.

If you've been here for a while you'll maybe have seen that I absolutely ADORE Meghan Quinn. Her Brentwood Baseball and Getting Lucky are two of my all time favourite series ever. I have so much love for her humour

While I was so looking forward to this one I kind of knew in the back of my mind that it was probably going to flop for me. I had such high hopes but I knew, as a Scottish woman, living in Scotland and this being by an American author living in America I was probably going to poke holes in.

I really enjoyed Bonnie and her sarcasm and wit. Her sense of humour was right up my street and I found I really empathised with some of her struggles. Which meant I took her falling out with her best friend pretty hard. I found their whole confrontation really toxic and mostly unnecessary, for two "best-friends" they could have easily resolved their differences with some more open communication and I didn't really see a reason for those conversations not to happen.

If anyone wants a lesson in the difference between a Scone and a Tattie Scone and what ones would and would not be sold at a cafe then hit me up.

I think it would be a good read for anyone not from Scotland, it's an easy, feel-good read. If you're Scottish and have read it let me know what you thought!
