Another decent read from a very talented author. I'm enjoying catching up with all these books I have to read and thoroughly enjoying these books.
Good characters and an interesting story line.
In book #2 of this series, we meet Mackenzie Darroch and DI Geddes again. Mackenzie has channelled the trama she had in the first book into providing a shelter for abused women. When Mackenzie assists in rescuing a young woman from a car wreck, she offers her the safety of the shelter. Her husband is being released from prison and has threatened everyone helping his family hide from him.
This book is not as dark as the first book. If you have not read IN HARM'S WAY, Mackenzie was abucted and abused. She has survived and is determined to have a better life......including DI Geddes. Owen Mullin built a great storyline into an excellent thriller with some memorable characters. This family is so full of "character", I'm sure we will see them in many more thrillers.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read this book.
Once again I do not think Owen Mullen and me are compatible and I did not get to the end, sorry.
I did not finish this book properly. I did not read the book in its entirety. I skipped ahead to sections just to see how it ended.
Like some of the books written by men featuring women as lead protagonists, I was not too fond of certain graphic imagery.
I chose to request multiple books without actually reading the first, but was unable to read them properly.
The story is thrilling in its own way, just not the kind that I am comfortable with reading. It will certainly appeal to those who read thrillers like these. My review should be taken with the fact that I am a little sensitive in terms of language and descriptions used which will not matter to most other readers.
A good psychological thriller, full of twists and turns that kept me on the edge till the end.
The characters are interesting, the plot flows it's fast paced. Mackenzie in a strong woman who overcomes lots of issues and hurt, I love her
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Loved this book it has a great story and excellent characters readers will not be disappointed with this Owen Mullen book 5*
Love the cover but the blurb sucked me into this one!
You won’t believe what the author has in store for you! His endings never fail to astonish.
What did I like? This is book two in this series and should be read in order to fully get the background on Mackenzie the main character. A victim of a brutal kidnapping now helps other women out of similar situations. Her home helps other women the book starts off with one of those situations. The book is packed full of gruesome details and her love life spices up with one of the officers that helped save her from her abduction. The book sucks you in and doesn’t let you go. Even after reading I’m wondering what is next! Five stars!
Would I recommend or buy? Yes anyone loving a thrilling tale with love the whiplash this book gives you. Some of the justice is vigilante but equally exacting. I would definitely read more by this author!
I received a complimentary copy to read and voluntarily left a review!
We met Mackenzie Darroch in the first book, and learned about all she endured. The second book begins five years later and Mackenzie is running a home for women leaving abusive relationships. What follows is a roller coaster of emotions, as decisions are made that can't be changed. I highly recommend this book.
I received a ARC from NetGalley and the publisher, and this is my fair and honest review.
Mackenzie Darroch has a wealthy husband who loves her, close family, but Mackenzie is far from happy. Mackenzie also has a problem with alcohol and admitted to having an affair. No one believes Mackenzie when she tells her family about being stalked. Then suddenly, Mackenzie disappears, with family believing she has gone off with her new lover. No one knows she is in trouble and being held in a cellar ina derelict house.
There is of course a twist, being a psychological thriller. But it’s keeps you guessing. An enjoyable read and new author to explore.
What would you have done? Thriller
Mackenzie witnesses a car crash and pulls a woman free. This starts a thrilling chain of events where revenge and freedom become entwined.
Mackenzie is running a women’s refuge, where the fear of violence from men, whether past or present, is always there. She is providing a place of healing, not only for the women, but also for herself. Meanwhile she is falling for DI Andrew Geddes, but could her secrets destroy their chance of happiness?
As with all Owen Mullen books, this thriller has plenty of action and interesting characters. This novel about making a difference in other people’s lives; indeed there are times when the reader may question what they would have done in similar circumstances.
Though Mackenzie and DI Geddes feature in previous thrillers by this author, Deadly Harm can be read as a “stand alone” book – though why you would not want to read all the other books by this author beats me.
4*s from me for this thriller, as I found the dark realism of domestic abuse hard to read about. Domestic noir is not a preferred genre for me; if it was this would definitely have merited 5*s.
I really enjoy Owen Mullen's books, this a solid four star read. A domestic thriller with a vast group of characters that were all interesting in their own way. Very much a book with strong women characters and emphasizes the support and bonds between them. Good story with a great twist wrapping it all up nicely. Thank you to Netgalley and the author for the opportunity to read this book, much appreciated.
