I’ve been reading more shoujo and josei series so I was eager to get my hands on this.
She’s my knight is basically a shoujo manga with a popular, good looking guy, who’s sweet and charm and yet, cannot accept nor confess his feelings towards one oblivious girl. She’s sweet, kind and acts as every ‘prince charming’ should be. So, we basically have him as the tsundere heroine who doesn’t admit he likes her despite being so obvious, and we have her as the brave, honest hero, who supports him in every occasion.
Though the story doesn’t seem to follow a plot per se, with each chapter we see a bit more about their interaction. Also, it kind of relies on joking about gender roles in classic shoujos, so it’s always funny to see that.
I wasn’t expecting it to be deep and that’s why I probably enjoyed it more. Some stories are just meant to be funny, entertaining and overall, give us a nice time. This did it for me.
She's My Knight, Volume 1, by Saisou is a manga style graphic novel. Haruma Ichinose, 17, has been popular since he was born. So popular, in fact, that he figured no one could even come close, until he met Yuki Mogami. She's tall, cool, collected, and totally makes him crazy. He may just be in love, but can he deal with falling for someone even more dashing than himself?
She's My Knight is a cute middle school to young adult manga, while other age groups can enjoy it as well. On the surface this is simply the story of two popular kids getting to know each other, and coming to like each other, while dealing with the idea that they have unconventional prince/princess roles with each other. Sometimes that role reversal comes off as completely misogynistic and off putting, but I felt like it was done here with a nod to all the other anime and manga that have made use of this idea. I thought the various nods to different tropes often used in romantic manga was well done and fun. I would have liked to have seen more of Mogami's thoughts- as we seem to get more from even the secondary characters than from her. I liked the story and art, and would certainly pick up the next volume if I found it- but I would not go hunting for it.
Really adorable volume one! I can't wait to see where this story goes. I loved how different it was from other manga's I'm currently reading.
We follow Haruma Ichinose a very popular boy in high school. He has been able to maintain his popularity because of his charm and appreciation of things, especially people around him. That is until he meets and gets close to Yuki Mogami who is taller than him and seems to be loved by everyone.
He falls in love with her but cannot get rid of his jealously of her. He is jealous that she is taller than him and she definitely goes to lengths to ensure that he is aware of his shortness. It was quite funnier actually. Anyways, since he fell in love with her, he thinks because he is charming, she would fall in love with him too... Wrong...
I quite enjoyed this story, it was just frustrating to see that the height difference was the major bone of contention in the book. I wish there was a bit more.
OMG, THIS IS SO FUNNY!
I love the characters here! I love the way Ichinose wants Yuki to be head over heels towards him but instead, it's him who's head over heels towards her! This gives me Ouran host club + last game! what a fun and short manga but there are many cute and full of fluff moments in this manga!
The amount of comedy in this surprised me! For a first volume, they hit on a lot of stereotypes from shoujo manga. The couple (and the story as well) reminds me of Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun, and it was fun seeing these types of tropes and dynamics in a different setting and with different characters.
My favourite thing was actually the little serious moments we get, so I hope that as the series progresses, the comedy and metafiction will allow for more seriousness as well.
It was fun to see gender roles being called out, although I do wish that the manga could go one step further and question those same gender roles. Maybe the characters will start embracing their individuality at some point? I hope so.
Overall: fun and quick read - lots of the "special" shoujo scenes.
In this cute Shojo manga, it's the girl who sweeps the boy off his feet. The usually suave Haruma Ichinose falls for the only person who can match his charms: Yuki Mogami. Heck, people ship them so much that their teacher tries to set them up? I'm definitely not the audience for this title, but it was a fun read. I would recommend to new manga readers who like romance and manga readers looking for a new title. New manga readers will appreciate it's attention to calling out Shojo tropes and plot devices.
Not sure why but this manga gives me major Ouran High School Host Club vibes and I'm so here for it!
This manga is really cute and I like the twist on romance manga tropes. Ichinose is a hilarious character and I love how he is basically the tsundere type. I recommend this manga and I cant wait for volume 2.
She's My Knight is a humor shoujo and romantic one too. I liked the cover and thus wanted to try this and gladly it was kind of different. Ichinose is a cool guy and girls love him and have loved him since forever. But, there's one thing that's cooler than him and that's Mogami. A girl taller than Ichinose with a prince aura. Ichinose actually falls for her and it seems Mogami feels the same way too, but they are idiots for not being able to express it and there's the pride too. Basically the series laughs at the shoujo tropes and makes the girl the cooler one. I do like the characters, but the base of the joke is quite flat when that's the whole premise. It's like a limbo, where things keep happening and there's nothing new and refreshing after a while. I hope Saisou can push more content into this or otherwise it will get really boring soon and this is just the first part.
The art looks good and funny. I like the facial expressions, chibis and all that. Ichinose is cute when being suddenly "the heroine" and Mogami is cool and cute at the same time. This isn't your basic sparkly shoujo, so points for that. She's My Knight is better than most humor manga, so if you want humor and romance that can laugh at itself, then this is your choice.
I received an e-copy from the publisher via Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I didn't expect that the male character was a HUGE tsundere. I am a sucker for those type of characters, so I definitely enjoyed this cute, slice-of-life rom-com manga!
The story follows Haruma Ichinose who had been popular all his life so when Yuki Mogami, a princely girl type, who seemed to steal Haruma's spotlight. Haruma thought that she was just his rival, but why did he keep on thinking about her, even making his stop skip a beat?
This was such a fun, quick read. I really liked how Haruma could not stop himself from blushing whenever Yuki was around. All signs pointing how he was in love with Yuki, but he was in denial. On the other hand, Yuki seemed clueless. I really like the characters' chemistry and dynamics and how they slowly getting close to each other. The art style was really good, too!
Overall, She's My Knight was a great start of the manga. I cannot wait for the next volume!
5/5 stars!
Sweet and hilarious, I loved the situations they found themselves in but wish there was some more development... The secondary characters are my favorite, the teacher trying to set them up had me cracking up every time
A fun first volume. I loved the art style and the characters so far, however I didn't feel as connected as I'd hoped I would after the first volume, however I will continue on with the series.
She's My Knight is a quirky manga that breaks all cliche. I liked the story, alot. The characters are so amazing. The artstyle is unique and beautiful. This is a manga which will not only be enjoyed by devote shoujo manga lovers, but also by new reader. It will be enjoyed by teens as well as the adults. If you are looking for reading something totally different from typical shoujo Mangas, this one is for you.
What happens when a school’s most popular boy meets his match in a girl who is taller and stronger than he is? Why is he so awkward around her? He’s used to being the star of any room and here’s a girl constantly trying to rescue him. If only she had an interest in him, maybe he’d feel more like his usual self. So why is he getting heart palpations whenever she is near? He cannot possible be interested in her, can he?
Super cute manga that plays with traditional gender roles and awkward teenage crushes. I’d read any future volumes.
This was actually very enjoyable. 'She's My Knight' is a delightful novel that portrays the message that love can be just as amazing regardless of height differences that society deems to be bizarre, when clearly there is nothing weird about it. Overall, this was a hilarious manga that made me crack a chuckle here and there. I look forward to volume 2!
Thank you Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for the eARC.

She's My Knight Volume 1 by Saisou feels almost like a parody shojo manga with all the familiar tropes that come with it. It was a quick read, with short chapters and a few bonus scenes. It follows a high school role-reversal romance akin to the "Lofty Flower, fall for me!!" series on Crunchyroll. And I didn't mind one bit. I'm always down for some light, entertaining fluff and that's exactly what this volume was. I wouldn't mind reading more volumes down the road either.
A fun story with some good characters, artwork and dialogue. It has some tropes that you seen in a lot of manga but still a fun read.
There is a full length review forthcoming on my site, MangaLibrarian.com and on my YouTube Channel! I go in depth on my analysis there.
This manga was awful, I can't even lie.
It was beyond confusing who was who as it kept going between regular anime looking characters to chibi looking characters.
It kept doing over the same situation and it was just so irritating.
