This was a beautiful follow-up and a worthy conclusion to Maia's tale, which began in Spin The Dawn. The stakes were higher and much deadlier in this one, and there were lots of deaths and bloodshed.

I loved Spin the Dawn because of its crafty premise and vibrant story of Maia but Unravel the Dusk is quite underwhelming.

Spin the Dawn focus on Maia's journey as becoming the best tailor for the Empress. She encountered magical creatures and things that help her attain that. The premise of the competition in the Spin the Dawn was exhilarating, vivid, and especially fun.

Knowing the results of Maia's challenged trapped her to dark magic she never wanted.

The premise of Unravel the Dusk is there but, it lacks substantial storytelling for the incoming war. The whole story was Maia's only POV but she dragged the whole kingdom with this war without a profound character development for characters specifically with Lady Sarnai and her father. While reading it, the characters just accepted the fact that they need to help Maia in this war. Also, the war is underwhelming.

A chunk of this book that involves cliche romances and plotless scenes should replace by more character development instead.
