This book is an introduction to wall painting with 22 step-by-step projects. The projects are simple, and the instructions are easy to follow. I have painted a few walls myself and so found this book too simple for me. I enjoyed looking at the photos and gathered a few new ideas and tips. The photographs help explain each project beautifully. This book also encouraged me to try painting other people's spaces. I would have loved to see some of the real life projects that they have worked on. I would recommend this book to anyone looking to spruce up his/her home and add some color to his/her life.
Color is such a powerful and important part of our lives, and so many people are afraid to use it in their decorating. This book does a fantastic job of demystifying and inspiring!
Written for the beginner, Wonder Walls takes the reader through the entire process of decorative painting from color selection, types of paint, tools needed, and design techniques. From large, wall-spanning murals to small, decorative items. They really do make it look easy, even for the least creative of us. Can't wait to paint my mailbox!
This book is a lesson in color. If you are one of those who has decided they like minimalism and white paint simply due to the fear of color, this book will really help you out in figuring out hoe to incorrect color in your home.
This book is full of colourful, quirky designs and will brighten up any room! The ideas included are brilliant! Would recommend this for hints and tips to transform any space!
I enjoyed this book. During quarantine, I painted a geometric wall in a room of my house using leftover latex and acrylic paint around my house. Will it last? I have no idea. But it was what I had on hand. Now that we can go out and about, I decided to check out this book and learn how to this properly before trying another wall. This book is informative about products and techniques, and would have been very helpful two years ago!
Nice introduction to filling your home with color. Basics and techniques are covered well. If you're planning on staying in your home for awhile, don't be afraid of color!
I spend a lot of time staring at my blank walls wishing that I had both the skills and the courage to spruce them up with a simple mural or just.... something much more interesting. But as of yet, I've been partly afraid and partly uninspired to take the plunge. What if I spent all that time painting my wall just to hate it?
And then along came this book. It covers the basics, and I mean the very basics, of what you need to get you started, and excellent instructions on how to create really lovely, interesting and bold murals in your own home. The book is filled with plenty photos and is really eye catching.
Unfortunately I do feel as though these designs may not be for everybody, but if you're interested in bold, bright colours and would love the courage and guidance to take the plunge in your own space then this is most definitely the book for you.
I've been feeling a bit tired of my walls, but haven't yet decided how to paint them- then this book came along. Now I am feeling a bit inspired.I'm not sure I am brave enough yet to attempt any of the ideas, but sure do appreciate that the chapters cover easy- to difficult! Nice details for how to do each project. I may well try an easy one to kick start a room! Good starting point for anyone thinking of doing a wall mural.
Are you a new homeowner broke from paying closing costs and buying new furniture and need a cheap way to spruce up the inside of your home? Are you a renter tired of looking at drab white walls? Maybe you're neither, and you just want to add some more color to your walls? Wonder Walls gives you dozens of fresh ideas to spruce up your space with murals, and gives instructions so clear that even my creatively-challenged brain could follow along. I'm looking forward to giving some of these a try at home!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an advanced copy in exchange for my honest feedback.
A lovely book popping with colour, with lots of projects for your home. It includes guidance on paint, equipment and how to's.
This is a fun to read book that generates enthusiasm. Designs are mostly big and bold but some are smaller and less eye-popping in both color and shape. Authors give a good overview of color theory & how to decide what sort of design to paint. Importantly, they provide plenty of basics on choosing tools such as paintbrushes, how to fix mistakes, and helpful tips like using a card to smooth down painters' tape. It's not all bold graphics--projects for watercolor-like wall painting and ombre designs are included. Great for people who want to try their hand at exciting or subtle appealing wall decoration, and for libraries where interior decoration and home DIY projects are popular.
Disappointed with the artistic level of the designs. It might be appreciated on a college dorm level but not something I would wish for in my home.
I really liked how this spelled out the specifics of paint, because frankly, I can’t go to my local hardware store without being ignored or treated like I am dumb or attempted to be upsold and generally the person behind the counter is just whatever bored person they have covering the paint department today. Some of the projects seem waaaaaay too daunting even with the brief descriptions on how to accomplish them so I just don’t know if they would ever really get done. They seem to range from “paint these straight lines on your walls” to “do this really complicated mural” but none of it really felt like something I would realistically ever DO. They did have some very good ideas about using stencils, so my 5 year old might actually want that done to her room, so who knows…
I received an ARC, but my opinions are all mine.
I haven't been so inspired after reading a book in such a long time! These murals are gorgeous and the step-by-step guides make them totally doable!
I really enjoyed how informative this book is about using paint to decorate a home. The advice was practical and the estimation of time was helpful.
I would have like a little more on variations of the color wheel or alternative designs for big works or murals. There is a rainbow wall, but it used white to lighten it, so I wonder how it would look if they did it with gray or black to change the overall look. A few more new ideas for less artistically inclined people would have been a great addition.
Fabulous book full of colour and projects for the home. To start there is a section on paint, equipment and instructions, having mastered these, the next section is full of projects. And these are fabulous. starting for easy, and as they graduate to those that require more care, one is taken for a ride to great room and wall decoration ideas. And how easy they are to achieve.
Really great book for adventure in painting.
