This was a remarkable edge-of-your-seat thriller, telling the story of a mother who suspects that something awful happened to her child that was briefly left home alone. The tension is insurmountable!

I absolutely adore Lauren North books, this is a truly wonderful author and this is quite possibly my new favourite of her books.
This is a read that has completely pulled me in and been one that has been impossible to put down. I have been intrigued from the cover of this book and it has definitely made me want to read more.
I have loved the character of Anna, a mother of three girls with a husband that works away. As readers, we have experienced the stresses and emotional rollercoaster that she has been on. This is a credit to North- she has literally put us in the situation where we can experience these emotions and stresses.
This has been a completely unpredictable read, I have been completely hooked and wanting more throughout this one. I have been unsuccessful at predicting where this one was going to go.
I have read all of this author's books, this is quite possibly my favourite. I have felt the emotions, stresses and been completely caught up in the plot- unable and unwilling to put this down.
There is nothing negative I can say about this gem. Lauren North is a fantastic author and this is a read filled with fantastic characters, unpredictability, tension and suspense.
This is definitely a five star read and one I absolutely recommend.

Anna James worries constantly about her children. She decides to relax a bit and leave her 11 year old daughter Harrie at home alone one evening when she goes to collect Harrie's twin, and assures herself that nothing bad will happen in the sleepy village of Barton St Martin and that her daughter will be safe at home. But something does happen... Anna comes home to find Harrie with unexplained bruises and in a terrified state. The next morning a local man is reported missing. Could there be a connection? Anna desperately wants to help her daughter but Harrie will not talk to her. Can Anna find out what happened that night and stop anything further from happening?

Another brilliant book by Lauren North. I loved the mystery of the story and wondering how everything fitted together. There were a variety of interesting characters, including the local women full of gossip, as well as a few suspicious characters who keep you wondering if there is anything dodgy about them. The twists and turns were absolutely shocking and I couldn't stop turning the pages until the very end. The ending was great and also shocking! Very much recommend this thrilling book.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of the book in return for my honest feedback.

Wow! I could not put this book down until I had found out all the answers to the questions I had whilst reading it. The main character is a mum to 3 girls and is married but her husband works away so she is basically a single mum with lots of things to juggle, I could really relate to her having been a single mum to 3 girls myself. She feels a little but if an outsider not having many friends in the area . She is a worrier and isn’t comfortable leaving one of her twins alone at home but as she’s 11 yrs old and it’s only 20 minutes she decides it won’t hurt.
Well it did hurt and the rest of the story twists and turns with views from the mum and the daughter Harrie.
I genuinely could not guess what had happened and how this book would end and there is even a twist on the very last paragraph.
Excellent writing again, highly recommend Lauren North and her books

Even a tornado is less twisty than Lauren's this novel.
Anna James is an anxious mother. So when she has to leave eleven-year-old Harrie home alone one evening, she can't stop worrying about her daughter. But nothing bad ever happens in the sleepy village of Barton St Martin.
Except something goes wrong that night, and Anna returns to find Harrie with bruises she won't explain. The next morning a local businessman is reported missing and the village is sparking with gossip.
Anna is convinced there's a connection and that Harrie is in trouble. But how can she protect her daughter if she doesn't know where the danger is coming from?
Narration of the story is excellent. And I loved Anna very much. Other supporting characters were good.
