Tw: bipolar

I typically don’t read graphic novels, but this one really caught my eye. The cover is super cute and after reading the synopsis I knew I had to read it.
After a short series of misfortune at her old school, Elle is excited to start anew at a new school. She quickly makes friends with a tight knit group of students and her life seems to be moving in a positive direction. That is until she starts becoming over stressed and her mental health starts dissolving.

*possible spoilers*

After reading the synopsis, I assumed Elle was going to be about dissociative identity disorder, but I was quickly caught off guard when it’s revealed that she has bipolar disorder. Something I have. This character is super relatable and I think the author does a phenomenal job portraying the ugly, and good, sides of having bipolar disorder. Elle’s hair changes color when she changes moods because she feels like a totally different person, and that’s exactly how it feels when dealing with strong emotions with bipolar. Along with an amazing storyline, the artwork is beautiful. This was a quick and easy read that made me feel seen. I don’t know if this story is going to stick with the bipolar storyline, because it’s quite obvious that they’re something special about Elle. The story ended on a cliffhanger, but I’m invested and can’t wait to read more.

I received a free copy of this book on NetGalley. I am leaving a voluntary review and this review is based on my own thoughts and feelings.

Elle(s) tells the classic story of a new girl at school...but with a twist. At first you think Elle is just going through a lot of different emotions, which would make sense as she is a teenager and in a new environment, but you soon find out she has several personalities inside of her. As things happen to Elle (making new friends, stress at school) you see these personalities take over. Her new friends (who I'd like to learn more about) are understandably confused by these changes in their classmate, but the plot thickens when you find out Elle's parents are possibly keeping a big secret from her.

The visuals in this book are bright and colorful...quite eye catching. The style was very appealing. The plot kept me interested and I was bummed to find out the story ended on a cliffhanger!

I was provided this book to read in exchange for an honest opinion. I'd like to thank NetGalley and Europe Comics for this ARC.

In this graphic novel, Elle appears to be just an average teenage girl, but you learn that she actually possesses multiple personalities. In this story, Elle has to learn how to navigate her life as a high schooler with this disorder.
One of my favorite aspects of this book is the art. I specifically love how the art portrays Elle’s different personalities.
As a whole, this novel doesn’t feel very realistic, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but if you're hoping to read an accurate portrayal of DID, this book might not be for you. I also think parts of the novel felt rushed and the ending felt too sudden. I would've loved if the story and characters were developed a little more.
But overall, this book is a cute story with fun characters, and original premise! I would recommend it for younger readers.

Let's start with the artwork. The artwork is honestly some of teh most gorgeous computer animation I've seen outside of Pixar.

The story, of a girl with multiple personalities, is a fascinating way to think about the different facets of our personalities. It was a little confusing at first to match haircolor with personality but once you got the hang of it it really was a great way to denote who was in "control". It was really a good read and I am very interested to see what comes next in the series.

It was a really nice, colorful graphic novel about a girl with DID navigating schoolwork and the issues related to her disorder. It was good to see DID portrayed in a setting other than thriller.

I enjoyed many things about it: the characters (all the Elles and all of the supportive freinds that she has), the art, which kind of reminded me of Pixar movies, and the visual representation of Elle's different identities (it really helped).

I don't think there is anything I didn't enjoy. The visual representation of the inner struggle between different personalities didn't seem realistic, but well, it's supposed to be a graphic novel.

This volume ends on a cliffhanger, so I'm kind of curious what happens next.

What an absolutely wonderful first graphic novel in a series! I can't wait to read the next one once it's translated!

TW: Violence, depression, and loss.

About the book: Elle is just another teenage girl... most of the time. Bubbly and good-natured, she wastes no time making friends on her first day at her new school. But Elle has a secret: she hasn't come alone. She's brought with her a colorful mix of personalities, which come out when she least expects it... Who is Elle, really? And will her new friends stand by her when they find out the truth?

Thoughts: This graphic novel was beautifully drawn. The colors were just vivid and the story flowed. I felt so bad for Elle. A person can only handle so much when they are being pushed to the edge. I wanted to hug her and tell her that things can get better. The ending killed me and I can't wait for the next one.

3.5 stars

This was beautifully made. The art style is stunning and the story is very entertaining and engaging but the ending felt abrupt and left me with too many questions. If this is a series and I hope it is, I'm very interested in reading more about Elle, her story and her friends.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this graphic novel, and the only complaint I have is that it wasn’t long enough. I can’t wait for the next one in the series! I gave this 4/5 stars.

I adored everything about this book. The art was fresh and enticing and I read it in one sitting. It was short enough to give you all the details but also kept you hanging on and wanting more. The whole storyline was something I had not seen before, and I loved that, I am really looking forward to the next instalment!!

First came Lumberjanes... Then Elle(s)!
It's so exciting to see a beautifully illustrated graphic novel that's aimed at teens that is so empowering as well as fun.

I'll start by saying how much I adore the art, Stokart did such an incredible job and it's really what drew me in to reading the book in the first place. Those small realistic touches of light here and there make all the difference to a readers immersion.
Navigating friendship is a huge deal when you're a teenager (arguably this doesn't wear off until at least your mid twenties!) and starting a new school is traumatic at the best of times, Toussain captures Elle perfectly in my opinion.
I don't want to give too many details for sake of spoilers, but it's often hard to explore such delicate topics but the subtle colour changes that accompany each personality change work so well.

Elle is the new girl in school. She meets new friends and everything seems to be going well, but things take a turn when her personality starts changing depending on the situation. These mood swings will bring her many problems and she'll need the help of her friends to discover what's going on.

This graphic novel was stunning and I loved how the hair colours were used to represent the different personalities of Elle. The artwork and the illustrations were incredibly beautiful and all the characters were so cute! I also found really interesting and impressive how the book delved into mental illness, but it felt kind of rushed.

My main problem is that it was way too short and the ending felt very abrupt. I would have liked it to be longer, so that the reader could get to know the characters better and establish the series well. Another solution could have been to get rid of some of the subplots, because I felt like it tried to encompass too much in too little space (less than 100 pages). Nevertheless, I think it was a very original story and I'm looking forward to reading the next volumes!

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. At first I was a bit apprehensive of this book since it’s around someone with multiple personalities. I ended up enjoying it though! I am not the most educated around what DID is like in reality, but I didn’t feel like the portrayal was exploiting the condition necessarily. I liked the idea of each version having a different hair colour and having distinct personality traits. I did feel like it was a bit over the top at times. The art is stunning and is definitely what kept me fully interested. I look forward to reading more about these characters and the storyline.

First of all this is one of the most beautifully made graphic novel I have ever read. The art was very colorful and it made reading more enjoyable.

Basically Elle was a new student in her school. She was very bubbly and friendly so it wasn't a shock for people to like her and everything was going well. She had friends, she was excelling in school and she was finally fitting in until everything went down.

Honestly going in to this I didn't think it will delve into mental illness that much, but for a 100 page novel it did capture my attention and made me realize how serious mental health is. I can't even imagine how hard it was for Elle to cope with all the stress and having to be aware of the different personalities you have in yourself but can't do anything about it.

Besides Elle I really liked the character of Maelys. Everyone needs a friend like her. Someone who won't give up on you cause of your mood swings and will always have your back no matter what.

It did end to fast and I feel like more should be said but it is a first in a series and I can't wait to read the next books.

Thank you to @netgalley and @EuropeComics for this ARC Ebook. All opinions are my own.

First off I want to say the illustrations were absolutely beautiful! They were very well done, and I loved how Elle's different personalities were reflected with different hair colors.

Second, that cliff hanger!! I felt like the book did a great job setting up for the next in the series, and left readers wanting more.

The one thing I wish that the author would have chosen to do was tell the complete story, versus breaking it up. I wanted to know what came next, and it ended abruptly. I will have to keep my eyes open for the sequel.

I really like this book.
Read it in one sitting and got totally absorbed by the art and by the plot...
The way DID is represented is a bit "movie-like" however I do think it makes a good job presenting the situation.
I can't wait for the next book

At first sight, this comic book reminded me of Pixar's Inside Out.

We follow Elle who goes to a new school where she quickly makes new friends. She appears friendly and funny. And she is a hard-working student. Everything seems to go well for her. But Elle has one particularity: she has multiple personalities and her hair colour changes according to them. Besides, a “evil” version of her wants to take control of Elle. She will also uncover a secret her parents wanted to keep away from her.

The drawings are gorgeous and look very real. I found the characters endearing, especially Linotte who made me crack up at some time. I recommend this comic book for teenagers because we all go through similar moments as Elle.

Though I wish it was longer. I finished it in one sitting and was so disappointed not having the second book. One thing is sure: I will read it as soon as it comes out!

Elle(s) is a comic about a girl, presumedly in high school or younger, whose going through a wide set of emotions and personalities after she moves to a new school and makes friends. However, as we learn, there is something evil inside of her, a personality that wants to take over, and as they switch through depressed, angry, snobbish, etc,, we see that there is something else going on. Her parents might not be her real parents, she doesn’t know how to control her moods and changes, and by the end of the first volume... someone else is taking over.

I liked the art for this comic, the characters and world building as well as all the visuals. For a comic, this is good. However, the script and dialogue isn’t for me. I think the characters are interesting, good friends who are there for the main character, and I’m interested in the story, but the writing is... choppy and disorderly, and I often find it hard to figure out where to read the text bubbles first and who they belong to. This is a nice story, and I believe it is incredibly relatable to young teens going through mood swings and angst, but there could be several improvements. I will continue with the series and hope that it will get better.

This is so beautiful but warning this first volume ends on a bit of a cliff-hanger. That said it is so beautiful that even readers will be eagerly wanting to read more just going back over the first volume is going to keep you occupied, as least a short while.

The panels are busy, but not crowded. I love the use of colours and I especially loved the section in the story where the different Elle(s) were discovered/drawn by her new friend based on hair colours.
I think there will be so much more to come with this comic but as a first comic it is beautiful.

At first, I couldn't really tell if this is a fantasy/magical thing going on with Elle or a find your identity high school thing. Every time I thought I had it figured out something new happened and I was lost again. Nevertheless, I enjoyed discovering what was happening as it went on and I love where it went.

The characters were all great and more 3 dimensional than I expect for a graphic novel. And the friendship between the protagonists was a great addition to the story.

The beautiful, eye-catching artwork is amazing and really adds to the experience of reading this.

My main fault with this is the ending, I know it is part of a series so a cliffhanger is to be expected but I thought this was a bit abrupt, coming just as I was getting into the story.
