I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.
Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.
However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x
I found this slow to start but persevered to the end and found it competently written.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review.
Following the death of their grandmother, the Ashwood sisters return to their small hometown to clear her house. When they are back in town they begin to face the reasons that they left.
There is a lot going on in this book as we follow the three different sisters and their stories. The book also covers a lot of heavy topics so don't let the cover fool you. It took me a while to get into this book and I thought that the plot moved a little too slowly for my liking.
Overall I liked this story but it isn't a new favourite for me. I am interested to try some of the author's books.
I haven’t read anything by this author before but I will do so in the future. It took a few chapters to get into this book but when I did, I loved it! A real journey of a story, all the characters had an equally strong back story and when they all came together it was great! Loved the connections with quilting (I’m an avid sewer) and the whole story had a lovely flow to it.
I would definitely recommend this book, many thanks for allowing me to read before the publishing date x
A wonderful read through the history of three sister, their mother and their grandmother. When the three sisters come back to their grandmothers home to sort out her belongings upon her death. Little did they realise how much they would all unfold about their past. They find a book with the details of a quilt with materials to be used and why. They decide to make the quilt and as they do so secrets are revealed.
Took me a while to get into this book, an enjoyable read between the generations of a family, secrecy and stories that come to the surface while sewing a quilt and crafting in memory of the girls gran and how they learn how to reconnect with each other again
I have been a quilter/quilting teacher for many years and I was looking forward to this book. What a wonderful read it was. Adie leaves her 3 granddaughters the means and pattern to make a quilt. It meant the ladies had to come together in a quilting circle to make the quilt. Each had very different lives and it was wonderful to follow each of their stories. I gasped out loud when I read Avery's story - what a shock. What fascinating stories each character had to tell. A real feel good story. I loved it and know just how much quilting can help people. I have heard from my students how much they have loved their quilting especially over the duration of the pandemic.
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. What a lovely feel good, warm feeling book. Really liked the storyline, the characters and everything. Would recommend
Get ready to move between 3 sisters, their mum and gran in an emotional journey through their love, loss and heartbreak. All of this is tied into finishing a beautiful quilt linking their past and their futures. The tears flow through the pages but so does the joy and the hope as the women fight for their futures and for the men that they love.
Told in the present and linking effortlessly through diaries of female relatives, the story shows the power and strength of the sisters to do what is right, face up to what is happening in their lives and live out their best future. Loved it through my tears and smiles.
The death of Addie,, matriarch of the family ,brings difficult decisions for her family. They have all been hiding secrets, so when they return to their hometown for the summer, it brings a chance to reform as a family, put the past behind them and through a quilting project stitch them together.
This was a sweet although wordy tale of family secrets. i prefer to make my own deductions from the text rather than being told exactly what the character feels in great depth.
.I enjoyed the storyline and the way making the quilt brought together stories from past ancestors and secrets hidden by the daughters.
Nice story but a little too long.
I received an ARC from Netgalley in return for an honest review.
I love Maisey Yates's writing. She produces such effortless prose and creates a story where the characters feel real and who engage one's interest from the beginning. I rather like these sagas where three or four characters come together and each one's story is explored and brought to a satisfying conclusion.
Each of the daughters and the mother are given due attention and we learn their secrets and watch them move into a new future. Such a skilful, talented writer. This is a really enjoyable story.
A heartwarming read about how secrets can keep sisters apart but also bring them together again. I was attracted to this novel by its title and premise as my mum is an avid quilter so grew up knowing how quilts can bring women together and the gossip that is shared while sewing. I wanted to know what was keeping the sisters apart and wasn't disappointed. Each has a story to tell and it is interwoven with snippets of old diaries adding to the depth and intrigue. All sisters and mother have their issues but relatable which made me read on to see how things could be resolved. It was a pleasure to read and though a Mills and Boon with some romance it is the sisters relationships that are in the foreground making it a refreshing read.
