I read an early advance copy of this in ebook form and really enjoyed reading it. There are some great creative ideas in the book and I think the physical copy of the book will be much easier to read through and print off from the templates.
I didn’t realise you could do so much with paper! Ideas which I would never have thought of. Some of them seem totally random and clearly written by someone with amazing imagination.
I enjoyed the history behind types of paper and the whole theory of everything. What is paper? How is it made? All the answers about paper are here in this book. Really informative.
Would definitely want to purchase the physical copy for myself and maybe for a couple of friends as gifts.
This has a bunch of cute little ideas for creative paper craft ideas. I’m not sure how many of them are actually viable, other than maybe a cute lantern or a card, but it is definitely a really cute book for the paper hobbyist in your life. Other than that, I just can’t imagine any practical application for ever really using this as a working, student, volunteering, PTA mom. I am just clearly not the target demographic (though I thought I was, turns out I just like writing letters…) It isn’t exactly for me, It was still really fun to flip through though.
I received an ARC, but my opinions are all mine.
VERY informational and takes the time to explain tools and techniques. The formatting wasn’t perfect on my kindle, but I still enjoyed seeing the projects and getting ideas.
Interesting book and full of fun activities. Highly recommend this one to anyone who enjoys paper crafting!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an e-copy of this book.
I'm afraid that my review won't do justice to this book as it is not easy to read as an e-book and I wasn't able to print off the templates and try out any of the projects. From what I see there is plenty to challenge both beginners as well as experienced makers, with excellent instructions and illustrations.
The book is well researched and I particularly enjoyed the historical and technical sections about paper making. I will definitely be ordering a hard copy of the book and trying out the projects.
I just wasn’t impressed with the projects in this book.. it had some interesting information, but it’s nothing that I would be interested in making. I liked the description and had high hopes, but…
4.5 - 5 stars
What a fun and engaging read! This book acted as a really great primer on tools and materials as well as detailed instructions on the construction of projects. The images and colors are gorgeous, adding to the incredibly informative text. The book opened with a tools and materials 101 overview coupled with images of amazing paper artwork, which makes the reader feel inspired and eyeopening to what the basics of papercraft can lead to. Overall a really great read that I would recommend to anyone, not just crafters or paper artists.

This was a fun book to read! I was sure it was going to be a more crafty type of papercraft book (which of course would be fine), but instead it's heavily focused on art paper themes and has a number of very beautiful and elegant projects that can easily be expanded with a little imagination. Many of them require templates to make, though, so be aware of that if you try to make projects from craft books that you're reviewing. In my mind that's the best way to do things, because any tutorial can sound good on paper but fall apart once you try the actual project, right?
Anyway, I had fun reading this book and I'd probably want to actually get this one for myself when it's published.
If you liked the older film documentary "The Art of the Fold" you'd probably enjoy this book as well (I recognized several paper artists featured here that were also in that documentary.) Of course, if you haven't read "The Art of the Fold" I would also highly recommend it, although ostensibly it's all about origami and folding paper and this book is a bit more varied in its approach to its projects.
Creative paper work
Content:
"The Art of Papercraft" book by Helen Hiebert, shows what you can do with a single sheet of paper in about 40 different projects. In her book, the teacher clearly demonstrates, techniques such as origami, folding, marbling, quilling to pop-up cards and small gift boxes. Each project is illustrated with accompanying photographic material and a detailed explanation is also included.
Opinion:
The book is exceptionally comprehensive. Approx. 300 pages are packed with new creative ideas for making small works of art out of paper. Even the stencils have been thought of. I especially like the fact that there are always very different projects and much is included, which I have not yet tried myself. The first pages on the materials were a little too lengthy for me. But that may also be because I have already read many such books.
Conclusion:
A comprehensive book to create new works of art with paper. A good book for creative people. Therefore I give very gladly 5 of 5 stars.
______________
Kreative Papierarbeit
Inhalt:

Chapter 7: Papermaking and Surface Treatments
What can I say about this book? I loved it! I have been doing papercrafts since 2006. Quilling is my favorite and there are not that many sources outside of the quilling world. When I saw this book, I knew it was for me. I was excited to see origami in the book too since I have always wanted to learn but had been intimidated. The step-by-step instructions made it so easy that I cannot believe it took me this long to learn it. I was blown away by the reconstructed Bauhaus Exercise. It is delicate and detailed but with the instructions, anyone that can use a craft knife can do it.
The author begins the book with the basics of paper – what is it and where to get it. The directions within the book are detailed and easy to follow. The photos are excellent resources so the reader can see exactly what the author means in the instructions. The tools section was one of my favorites. I love gadgets and have drawers full of papercraft tools. That just reminded me, I need to buy more glue sticks. This book belongs on the shelf of every crafter. It is an excellent reference book that can be used over and over again.
I have enjoyed a few of the paper art types that are featured in this book and a few are new to me. This guide is well illustrated and detailed. There are a few projects to try in each category, mainly it is the information included that makes this a valuable book. There is a concise history of paper, including helpful information about paper weights and grain. The instruction on techniques for each type of art are also very useful. Origami, paper cutting and quilling are all forms I have done before, what I can't wait to try is the sewing. I had tried to make a book once by sewing and it was extremely difficult. The techniques and suggestions in this guide will definitely ease the process. If you like papercrafts at all, this book is one that you will be able to use often.
Thank you to Storey Publishing and Netgalley for the e-ARC of this informative and useful Art guide.
“Paper is a magical and diverse material… . Paper can be both a surface (used in practical and artistic ways) and a work of art in and of itself."
Paper artist and teacher, Helen Hiebert compiles a one-of-kind collection of 40 unique projects, each using just one sheet of paper. Combining decorative paper techniques like marbling, stamping, and stenciling, with dimensional techniques like origami, cutting, folding, quilling, stretching, weaving, and pop-ups, The Art of Papercraft offers a rich variety of projects that will delight crafters, artists, and designers alike.
If you’ve been following my social media channels it shouldn’t be a surprise why I read this book. Always on the hunt for new crafting techniques, I loved how the author presents the art of crafting with paper to the reader.
Created by various designers, the one-sheet projects shown in the book are broadly categorised under folding, cutting and construction. Each project is visually explained with step-by-step illustrations and includes materials and tools required.
The author has also showcased profiles of contributing paper artists.
The USP of this book is that each of the projects are simple enough for a beginner while being sophisticated for the seasoned crafter. And for this reason I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys working with paper. Whether you take up a papercraft project alone, as a group of friends, with kids, or in a community, this will feed all your creative cravings and leave you with a stunning piece of art at the end.

Helen Hiebert’s The Art of Paper Craft is a wonderful resource for beginning and intermediate paper artists and for those exploring the field. Hiebert starts with personal notes and a brief history of paper around the world. She then shares paper craft techniques, providing clear instructions and photographs for multiple folding, cutting, pop-up, weaving, quilling, and sculpture projects ranging from a beginner level to one that is more advanced. She also introduces the work of leading paper artists and artistic techniques that originated in other countries. Her final chapter discusses trends in hand-made paper, popular surface techniques, and fasteners/connectors to help readers with their own projects. The resource section includes an illustrated glossary, lists of paper suppliers, paper organizations, and notable paper artists with their websites, a bibliography, and templates. (I viewed a pre-publication online copy from NetGalley and did not see the templates). One comes away with a solid knowledge of the basics and some idea of the awe-inspiring paper sculpture and art being created around the world. While reading, I kept thinking, “I didn’t know one could do that with paper.” Highly recommended.
This book was incredibly well-executed. It was visually appealing, well organized, and provided an impressive variety of information and resources. A lot of craft books I've read fall into the trap of being useful only to absolute beginners, or so advanced that you need a lot of prior experience to understand them, but this book felt like it was able to avoid either of those trappings. I came away genuinely inspired to play with the new techniques and materials I learned about, which is exactly what I hope for when I pick up a craft book. I took a college course in book arts that opened my eyes to just how versatile paper is a material, and reading this book made me feel like I was able to relive that experience in book form-- and even with that prior experience, I still learned lots of new things. This book is a treasure trove of information.
Don't make my mistake - "one sheet" doesn't mean easy projects! This book is a good overview for adults interested in papercraft to help them explore both materials and techniques. The book specifies what paper is to be used, and of course you only need one sheet so it's not a huge investment if you turn out not to like the material. My favorites are probably the projects using painted Tyvek. This book does not seem good for kids, the projects are hard and usually pretty detailed. The required templates will be made available online for download which is great, but are also included in the book for old-school photocopier techniques.

I've always liked working with paper in school - even though I was frankly disastrous at it. This book has really given me some more information and great techniques to use with papercraft.
The Art of Papercraft collates a bunch of crafts and techniques around working with paper, with most contributions by the author, but also many from other artists and papercrafters.
I enjoyed the simplicity of many of the tasks in this work, and where the craft prompts were more complex, templates were provided. I also thought the book was largely successful in breaking down the instructions for each craft, although I sometimes found myself defaulting to the pictures because I got a bit confused by the writing. Another criticism I have is that I would have liked a few more complex crafts, as the crafts - especially those by the author - seemed geared more towards children, which is a vibe that the overall work doesn't give off. I suppose that it is for beginners, but I would have liked a larger variety of challenges in the craft prompts

Tons of background on paper and papercraft. Book offers lots of pictures and projects to try. Look forward to trying out some new craft ideas.
Excellent book on papercraft. Many projects are described with images and clear directions. These pages make the reader feel they can complete the project. There is also a lot of great information on the history of papercraft and what tools to use. This is a must purchase for our library.
This craft book is very interesting as it caters to the beginner as well as the seasoned craft enthusiast. I say this because the origami designs start simple and build upon to complicated and intricate ones. A good reference guide for anyone interested in origami crafting.
The Art of Papercraft is a beautiful book celebrating paper and paper crafts. The author starts by talking about paper and then continues on with tools and techniques for making simple to elaborate projects. Chapters include Folding (origami), Cutting, Constructing and Papermaking. Each project includes photos with step by step instructions. At the end of the book are templates that can be copied to for creating some of the projects. In addition Hiebert includes beautiful photos of art works made with paper. I found this book both educational and fun. This book is geared more toward adults while many of the projects could be done by children with the help of an adult.
