Found this very hard to read because of Claire's obsession with Honor which felt like absorbing her anxiety as I read on - i.e. not enjoyable at all, and not at all a relaxing read. Kept waiting for it to pick up and move away from the self-induced anxiety by Claire, but it took too long to happen, and byt this point, I was fed up with this tale, unfortunately
I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.
Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.
However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x
Lovely feel good book to read. It was a joy to read. Lovely characters. Great plot. The book was charming. Very well written. I’d definitely recommend this book
I really enjoyed this one. Its a light hearted fun and fast paced. The characters are really great and likeable and there are some really funny moments. I think its a great summer read
I struggled a little with this book to be honest.
I found it funny in parts but a little slow in others.
I found honour highly annoying and Claire a bit of a sap for being the way she was around her!
It was a nice read never the less
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion
A good book
This book is warm, witty and will get you hooked straight away.
A great summer read
Thanks NetGalley
What a funny and really lovely book this turned out to be.
Claire is riddled with self doubt at all aspects of her life, so thought of spending a fortnight away with Honor and her family sends her a bit crazy.
After all Honor is seeming perfect at everything while Claire is referred to as dingbat a lot of the time.
So Claire tries to change in the run up to the holiday with amusing decision-making!
This was just a really enjoyable book, where I loved seeing the interactions between the families and seeing what random thoughts Claire would have next.
An entertaining debut, and I'm definitely keen to see what Jo Clegg writes next.
Thank you to Orion and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
3.5*
Not your typical summer holiday read! Claire’s husband and his best friend love doing things together, which pulls the whole family together! Their children are best of friends but Claire just can’t seem to do anything right when it comes to Honor! As a double holiday is planned, can they all get on for two weeks or will things all go wrong?
This is a well written story whose characters are well developed throughout. As the book continues you feel you get to know them all much better. It’s clear from the off that Honor is someone to be wary off, yet only Claire seems to be able to see this! The places in the book are also really well described and it feels like you are there, soaking in the views yourself.
For me it felt a little dragged out, you could see where it was potentially heading but poor Claire just kept falling for one thing after another, I felt I wanted to shake her at times!!
All in all a fun read, would read others from this author.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers and most importantly the author, for the chance to read this book, in exchange for an honest review.
Very easy to read story that would be great for the beach. Relatable too - who doesn't have a friend that makes them feel inferior? Lots of twists and turns. This is a fun read that I'd recommend as it goes a bit deeper than you might expect from the blurb and the cover. Really enjoyable.
Two weeks. Two families. What could possibly go wrong...?
Claire Swift can't think of anything worse than another holiday with the Wellbeloved family. The last trip together was a complete disaster - yet somehow, despite Claire's best efforts, they're all off to the Cornish coast again this summer.
So, this time she's coming prepared.
But becoming a domestic goddess to keep up with perfect Honor Wellbeloved isn't easy - especially when Claire is known for being clumsy and burns every meal she makes. And it's not long before her carefully laid plans are going spectacularly wrong.
It's only two weeks, what's the worst that can happen?
Great read, just what everyone needs right now! Fully recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Like most people, I doubt I will be going on a Summer holiday this year, so when I saw the cover and read the synopsis I thought this would be right up my street.
Claire reluctantly agrees to go on holiday to Cornwall with her Husband's best friend and his wife and their children. Claire is dreading it, Honour has the ability to make her feel inadequate, with her perfect home, life, job and family. I am sure we all know someone who makes you feel like that and you try to avoid at all costs. I guess this book reiterates the point I stand by even more as I grow older, spend time with the people you want to be around....you only live once.
A great read for the garden or the beach.
Thank you to Netgalley and Orion Publishing for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Estimated publication date 10th June 2021.
Claire agrees reluctantly to go on holiday with her husbands best friend and his wife Honor, whose life is completely different to Claires. Claire feels upstaged by Honor all the time and wishes she could be anywhere other than in Cornwall during the summer holidays. However life is never what it seems which Claire soon discovers.
A lovely easy read novel perfect for a beach holiday
Many thanks to Netgalley and publishers for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. My opinions are my own
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
Nothing worse for Claire than going on holiday with the Wellbeloved’s, especially after their last trip. But even though she thinks of everything so they don’t go, they’re going. But this time, she’s going well prepared.
But, it’s not that easy, keeping up with Honor, the lady who always looks like she’s got everything right, for Claire’s known for her burning of meals and clumsiness.
But her best laid plans are to go spectacularly wrong.
Recommend it.
Claire has suddenly found herself best friends with her husbands friends wife Honor and she really doesn't want to be
Honor is Mrs Perfection, Claire is the exact opposite
They end up going on holiday to Cornwall together which puts Claire in a complete flap as she tries to make it perfect to keep up with Honor. Needless to say that doesn't happen
A great read
This Time Claire Comes Prepared...
Another holiday with the Wellbeloved family? Is this a wise move for Claire, who has already experienced what such a holiday will undoubtedly entail? Despite all that, the two families are off for a break on the Cornish coast - but this time things will be different. This time, Claire is coming fully prepared. What can possibly go wrong? Wholly escapist, enjoyable read with a well drawn and credible cast of characters. A fun read.
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. I really enjoyed this book and made me think of happier times when life was a lot easier. Great storyline and great characters
The sensation I got as I was reading this excellent novel was of a double date gone wrong, since that was my take on the two families on vacation. That made for fertile ground for quite a few shenanigans! Loved it!
I received an advanced copy of, The Summer Holiday, by Jo Clegg. This is a good beach read. Vacationing with family is not always easy.
A fun book about trusting your own instincts and not listening to your inner critic too much!
When Claire agrees to go on holiday with her husband’s best friend and his ‘perfect’ wife, Honor, Claire goes into overdrive trying to ensure that they have the perfect accommodation and that she has the perfect family. But it doesn’t quite work out that way.
I’m sure we all have someone in our lives who is a little bit like Honor, although I think here that she’s more pantomime villain than real person. However the moral of this story is definitely to never let anyone belittle you or feel that they are better than you. A great beach read.
