The Last Says of Us was a truly heartbreaking story of loss, betrayal, forgiveness and the power of a mother’s love. The story is mainly narrated through the eyes of Sarah but it also features her son Harry’s perspective as well which I really enjoyed because it showed what he was going through.

One of the things I really enjoyed about this book was how hard Sarah fought for Robyn and never backed down even when she was treated awfully by those who should have had her back. She was made into a villain and still did what was best for her daughter.

This was a fantastic book and I recommend having tissues nearby because you’re definitely going to need them.

I recieved an advanced copy for free, and this is my honest opinion.

First, I want to thank Caroline Finnerty, Boldwood Books, and Rachel’s Random Resources for providing me with this book so I can bring you this review.

OHH BOY!!!! Warning: stock up on tissue before you read this book! Caroline Finnerty you touched me deeply in The Last Days of Us that I was overcome with emotions and started to ugly cry! This is a very emotion powered driven book.

Caroline would like to dedicate this book to Mary for always making her feel so welcome in her family and for being a truly lovely grandmother too.

Straight away the cover captured my heart with the beautiful little girl on the cover. It was that image and the title that hooked me into reading this book.

I had a huge smile on my face as the book started off and ended with a Christmas Theme!!

Caroline did a fabulous job educating her readers on Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG for short). Not only did she go to great lengths to describe this horrid disease to us but show us how it can affect your family members.

All Sarah McIntyre has ever wanted was a loving, happy family. So when her husband JP announces on Christmas Day that he is leaving her and their two children, 9 year old Harry and 4 year old Robyn, Sarah is left reeling.
But things are set to get worse when Robyn is diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour.

Can JP and Sarah unite to fight their biggest battle yet? or will they be on opposing sides once again?

With the couple at loggerheads and with Robyn's condition deteriorating day-by-day, precious time is running out and JP is getting desperate…

A heartbreaking tale that also brings awareness ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’d like to thank Boldwood Books and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Last Days Of Us’ by Caroline Finnerty in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

It’s Christmas Eve and Sarah McIntyre’s husband JP and father of nine-year-old Harry and Robyn, four, is late home, eventually getting back when they’ve all gone to bed. The following day their family arrive to celebrate Christmas Day with them and JP waits until they’ve left and the children are in bed before he tells Sarah he doesn’t love her anymore and is moving out. Sarah doesn’t think things can get any worse but before long Robyn’s health starts to deteriorate and the doctors at the hospital diagnose DIPG, a very aggressive and incurable form of brain cancer with a life expectancy of up to 9-12 months. Sarah tries to keep things as normal as possible for both children but she’s struggling especially when JP wants Robyn to have treatment that she disagrees with. Is she being selfish in not letting Robyn have the treatment or is she right to refuse?

‘The Last Days of Us’ is the heart-breaking and incredibly moving story of a family who are devastated when their daughter becomes ill and have a difficult decision to make, whether to let her take part in unproven treatment or keep her safe, happy and comfortable at home. I thought the chapters written by Harry were touching as he sees things in black and white, doesn’t understand what’s happening between his parents or why his sister ‘doesn’t look normal’. I became so involved with the characters that I was in tears for most of the time, especially when Robyn starts treatment at the hospital, and by the time I reached the conclusion less than a day later I felt emotionally drained. I can’t understand why I haven’t come across Caroline Finnerty before but she’s impressed me so much with her style of writing and the content of this amazing novel that I’ll be looking out for more of her writing. To sum up my review, this is a wonderful story that will stay in my thoughts for a very long time and I wholeheartedly recommend it – just remember to have a box of tissues nearby!

The Last Days of Us is a heart wrenching book. At the beginning of the book, JP, the father, decides to leave his family for another woman. As Sarah, the mother, tries to recover she notices her daughter, Robyn, is not acting right. When Robyn goes in for tests and receives a horrible diagnosis her family is tested like never before.

The story is told by Sarah with small notes from her son, Harry. I don’t want to give away everything but Sarah has a hard road in front of her. I don’t know what I would do in her situation. Sarah displays so much strength. I highly recommend this book but be prepared for it to be emotional.

Follow the lives of Sarah, JP and there children Harry and Robyn.
Form the first pages after Harry dropped a bombshell on Sarah's perfect life and family then Robyn, their 4 year old daughter was diagnosed with an incurable cancer.
I read this book in one day and although it was unbearably sad, it also shows the strength of family and the hope that comes after the worse news a family can receive.
It is excellently written. Full of hope, sadness and loyalty.
Thanks to#NetGalley for the advance copy in return for an honest review

I was enjoying this book and liked how it dealt with a lot of important issues, and the story itself was extremely sad, but I just found it fell a little flat in the writing department. This was hard to read because of the suffering of a child, the turmoil the family endured, the medical decisions that had to be made and the mother's efforts to do what's best for her daughter while the father fought her every step of they way.

I actually liked Harry's chapters the best. The author did a great job at writing his thoughts and feelings, which couldn't have been easy as he is a nine year old boy. It was heartbreaking but felt honest and true. The legal part of the story was also quite intriguing but wasn't long enough, I wish that was brought into the plot more. I also did not like the epilogue as it was VERY predictable and I had hoped the author went the other way with that part of the storyline. Over all a halfway decent read that gave me the sniffles.

This is a heartbreaking story and I knew it was going to be difficult to read. We have kids in our area that has died from brain cancer but there is still so much mystery around it. By reading this book, I have a better understanding of the disease, what they go through, and how to be there for someone going through this.
I shed a lot of tears reading this story, but you could feel the strength and the courage that, Sarah, had to find within herself.
One part of the book, the father ask the doctor, if it has been around a long time so why hasn't there been any advancement. That is why I hope people read this book, to gain understanding, some reading the book may some day have to face their child having brain cancer, but it also brings into the light a subject that needs to be discussed, and hopefully get more researchers interested in finding answers, finding cures, and even making it preventable.
I requested a copy from Boldwood Books through NetGalley, because as difficult as I knew it would be to read, I felt I had to read it. It was one of the saddest books that I have read, but it also was one that touched me so deeply.

One of the most heartbreaking stories I have ever read!

When I started the story I could not remember the blurb, so right from the start I knew something bad was going to happen, I could sense it but I did not know what.

This a very emotional read about Robyn, a little 4 year old girl that gets diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. The story’s main focus is on the mother and how she deals with everything, but in between some of the chapters there are short diary entries written by Robyn’s 9 year old brother Harry. These are heart wrenching to read!

As a parent with a child slightly younger than Robyn, I felt so much of her pain that I literally read several parts of this book in tears and held my own children just little tighter cherishing all the small memories we are making every day.

I would like to thank the author for this moving story bringing awareness for DIPG and for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review. I would also like to thank the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC.

Absolutely heartbreaking! I read more than half this book with tears streaming down my face. The chapters from Harry’s POV were gut wrenching and even though I knew what the story was about I was still broken by the ending. Have to say I didn’t forgive JP, either for his infidelity or the way he treated Sarah. She deserved so much better.

Heartbreaking and thought-provoking. I couldn't put it down. Always hoping for a twist or turn to save poor Robyn. Excellently written book detailing the heartbreak all families dread. Sarah showed amazing strength dealing with IVF, her husband leaving her and her child's terminal diagnosis. Thank you netgalley for this review copy. Definitely suggest friends to read this one

Another great read from Caroline Finnerty. This is a story of love and great loss. It tells how the perfect family can be torn apart, and how it impacts on all their lives. Its well researched, and will certainly tug at your heartstrings. Make sure to have the tissues near at hand. I loved it, and highly recommend it to those who enjoy contemporary fiction in an Irish setting.

Oh my goodness, this book hurt my heart. It’s a gut wrenchingly emotional family drama. I thought the author did an excellent job of drawing the reader in and holding on to them for the duration of this terribly sad book.

Always drawn to stories about moms who lose a child. Having lost my own child it’s interesting to see how authors portray this shattering experience. This author got it right. I too remember seeing a mother and child fight in a store and wanted to go yell at her. I know there have been other books with a similar theme, but I like how she includes the sibling’s thoughts. The impossible emotions that haunt a grieving parent like guilt, anger and frustration are presented well here. The only thing I didn’t like was when Sarah went to a church to find strength. It’s an important part of the story but we get to see how futile prayer/god/religion are in real life. And all the stupid things people say to you like “god needed another angel”. They should be punched in the face. In my opinion it’s a must read by everyone. Even if you are lucky not to have this or something similar happen, it’s a good reminder that life is precious, fragile and unpredictable.

I received an advance copy of, The Last Days of Us, by Caroline Finnerty. Wow, this book, just gets to you. Imagine your daughter, your four year old daughter, is diagnosed with cancer, but not an cancer, DIPG. Where there is no cure, and the fatality rate is high. This book is so well written, on such a touchy subject.
