What a fabulous resource! Who wouldn't want to knit a pair of socks at the same time. Easy to follow instructions if you have a bit of knitting experience.
Nice book. As a very experienced knitter there was nothing new in the techniques but I enjoyed it never the less.
If you are relatively new to sock knitting it may be really useful to you
I loved Knit 2 Socks in 1! It's a funny phenomenon that knitters will quit after finishing the first sock so this book is for those nice people! I love to knit and have never made socks before so this book is great for beginners. I loved that the author shared her story and the descriptions were great. Her knitting directions were easy to follow.
Book Review: Knit 2 Socks in 1
"Knit 2 Socks in 1" is a must-have book for sock knitters who have experienced the frustration of "single sock syndrome." Author [Author's Name] presents an innovative technique that solves this perennial problem by enabling knitters to knit two socks at the same time, resulting in a satisfying and productive knitting experience.
The book introduces a distinctive method that is accessible to sock knitters of all skill levels. It starts with the creation of the first sock's cuff, allowing knitters to establish a solid foundation. From there, the knitter can relax and knit a long tube that forms the main body of both socks. This approach eliminates the need to knit the second sock separately, alleviating the common issue of losing interest or motivation after completing the first sock.
The technique is made even more user-friendly with the assistance of a lifeline—a scrap yarn threaded through the stitches to hold them in place. This lifeline makes it effortless to separate the long tube into two individual socks. The book provides clear instructions and guidance, making the process easily understandable for knitters of varying experience levels.
What sets "Knit 2 Socks in 1" apart is the versatility it offers. The book features 21 different sock styles, ranging from simple to intricate designs, with various stitch patterns, design elements, and levels of difficulty. Additionally, the sizes offered cater to both children and adults, ensuring that knitters can create socks for all members of the family.
The heels and toes are worked using a straightforward two-row repeat, while the finishing touch comes in the form of a "hat closure." This technique, commonly used to close the tops of hats, adds a unique and visually appealing element to the socks.
The book's format and instructions are well-organized and easy to follow. The accompanying photographs and illustrations provide visual aid, enhancing the clarity of the techniques explained. Knitters will appreciate the attention to detail and the thoughtful explanations that allow for a seamless knitting experience.
"Knit 2 Socks in 1" presents a tried-and-true sock-knitting technique that eliminates the frustrations associated with knitting two socks separately. By enabling knitters to work on both socks simultaneously, this book offers a practical solution to the common problem of losing interest or motivation after finishing the first sock.
In conclusion, "Knit 2 Socks in 1" is a valuable resource for sock knitters seeking a fresh and efficient approach to their projects. With its accessible technique, diverse sock styles, and comprehensive instructions, this book opens up a world of possibilities for knitters of all backgrounds. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced knitter, "Knit 2 Socks in 1" will invigorate your sock-knitting journey and keep you engaged from start to finish.
I taught myself to knit a couple of years ago. Till then, I had been focusing on crochet. At the very start of my knitting attempts, I decided to give socks and gloves a shot. I did not realise what a futile attempt it was to be.
First, I tend to use whatever yarn I have on hand instead of listening to the instructions on the pattern. I have learnt since to (almost)always trust the pattern! My gauge swatch is usually not a complete attempt and other things that I should not have done as a beginner. The pair of socks that I started turned out to be more my husband's size when finished rather than mine. Also, after finishing one side, it took me almost another year to get around to doing the next. This is why, when I saw this book, I had to give it a shot.
It provides exactly what it promises. The ability to do two socks in one go. I found it very convenient to make one long tube, and then when I finally finished it, I had only a little more to do to have two socks with me. I am not putting a photo like I always do because I still tried to change a few things, which did not work out in my favour.
The author has provided a few slightly different designs to choose from for the actual socks. Unfortunately, mine was a timed digital copy, so I no longer have access to it, but I highly recommend the physical version for people who want to finish their sock projects and have not yet figured out the best way. It works for beginners like me as well.
I received this book as an ARC thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the review is entirely based on my own reading and trial.
A cosy heart-warming book that would be an excellent present or crafting companion for any knitter!
As someone who has been knitting for years now, I have always shied away from socks due to the complexity, fiddly nature and general dread of ill-fitting, lumpy uneven end products. Thanks to this book, I don't have that fear any longer! A guide written with both passion and experience, this guide takes you through all the steps from picking your supplies and materials - including an in-depth but easily comprehendible section on yarn and needle types, all the way to adjusting and embellishing your finished socks.
The writing in this book is clear and simplistic, a perfect instructive guide, with the prose being warm and friendly. I will definitely be buying copies to give to my crafty friends!
Such a delightful guide! I'm a baby knitter, and I found the instructions and notes to be super helpful. I think any crafter would enjoy this one.
3.5 stars!
This was a really good resource for a new technique in knitting! The writing was really clear and the photos really highlighted the details for each pattern.
If you're a sock knitter, then this is definitely a book that will interest you. Ms Talley champions the 'all in one' method of sock knitting, designed to stop your heart sinking when you finish one sock and know that you've now got to do the other one. If you're like me, you're already a bit bored and planning and possibly moving on to the next project. Knitting a pair of socks at the same time gets it all over and done with in one go.
It helps to master the magic loop method of knitting for these socks, but 4 double pointed needles will do the trick too. I'm an oldish dog and I was delighted to learn the new trick of magic loop, something I'd not really bothered with before.
The patterns in the book are charming, the photos are sweet, and the instructions are clear.
I remain a fan of short row heels I must say, rather than the ones you add in later, as in this book, but that's mainly because that's how I've been knitting them for several decades. Change can be hard!
All in all though, a delightful, inspiring book.
This is an interesting idea. When you're finished, you're finished. There's no need to knit another sock. I thought the instructions were easy to follow and I enjoyed this new process. And I loved being done.
Man, I really wanted to wait to review this book until I'd had a chance to sit with it and actually test out a pattern. I thought I'd have done that by now because knitting socks is something I've wanted to try for a long while now. Unfortunately life keeps getting in the way. So for now I'll just say that this is a lovely book - I love the photos that make knitting look like a fun and cozy thing to do. And I love the projects included. But best of all, reading through the instructions makes me feel like this is something I can actually do - I crochet and knit, but I'm much better at crochet. I've been trying to do more knitting recently so that I can get better at it, but socks have always intimidated me. Having this book on hand makes me feel like I can tackle it successfully. And having watched one or two of Safiyyah Talley's YouTube videos makes me feel like I can find some help there as well - as well as some entertainment!
Thanks to Netgalley and Storey Publishing for providing a copy for an unbiased review.
I received a digital copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. Thank you for the opportunity to preview the book!
For anyone who dreams of knitting socks but is intimidated by short rows and heel turns, this is going to be the book for you. I instantly fell in love with the methodology of knitting two socks out of one long one. I've always worried that the socks will be uncomfortable and that they wouldn't fit me right.
I'm I've tried knitting socks before and just could not make it work. This time, I know I'll be able to master it, and not only will I become an expert sock knitter but I'll finally be able to gift socks for Christmas instead of hats!
The photographs in this book make the instructions clear and very easy to understand. Good book for a beginner. No instructions for toe up socks but I'm not a fan anyway. Any weight of yarn can be used which makes this book very versatile.
An ingenious craft book with great illustrations and patterns. Highly recommended for all sock knitters!
Knit 2 Socks in 1 is an excellent resource for a handy technique. While not the first book on this topic, it covers a lot of ground and makes for a good compendium of technique. The pictures are beautiful and helpful, the instructions are clear, and the author has a kind and friendly voice. It's a must have for knitting reference collections!
I received an advanced digital copy of this book from the author, publisher and NetGalley.com. Thanks to all for the opportunity to read and review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Knit 2 Socks in 1 is a brilliant book with great photography and easy to understand knitting patterns. A must have for any knitter!!
5 out of 5 stars.
ARC provided by the Publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
4 stars for Knit 2 Socks in 1. Safiyyah Talley shows you how to knit both socks at the same time. Any knitter will tell you about the dreaded "second sock syndrome". This book makes it easy to learn how to knit both socks at once. I think this book would be a great addition to any knitter's book collection.
Loved this fun book and a new to me technique as a long-time knitter! Will be purchasing a physical copy of my own and handing off to all my friends who always ask "how do you knit socks so fast?" Instructions clear and well-written, and I am excited to own this beautiful book for myself.
For a new sock knitter, a sock is just a tube. If he or she can grasp the essentials of knitting in the round, there is not much else to these quick and satisfying projects except for two sections, the heel and the toe. There are hundreds of videos and tutorials that show the many techniques for the shaping sections of socks, but Safiyyah Talley’s new book suggests that the tricky parts can just be ignored until the end. Her patterns have you knit a long tube with all of the leg and foot knitting done without pause. Then at the end, toe shaping and two heels can be done using afterthought methods.
I’m not a new sock knitter, and I actually enjoy the mid-sock pause of creating a heel turn. Toes are a delight because they go so quickly, and suddenly you have a wearable object. But there was still much to enjoy in the book, notably the careful charts of sizing, gauges and stitch counts that will allow any aspiring sock designer to use a range of yarns to knit for a large range of foot sizes.
I heartily recommend this book to any knitter who is intimidated by socks!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Waited to do my review until I could get a hard copy. The preview copy did not have all of the information such as numbers and go to pages so it was hard to write a true review. This is a lovely book with a concept that I have not thought of! I also love that there are several patterns included in the book using Safiyyah's technique. As a knitter I look forward to knitting some socks of my own from this book.
I would recommend this book to my students if they were interested in learning to knit socks. All of the various pictures, along with the explanation of how to knit the socks make instructions very clear. Think this might be Ms. Talley's first book and I have to say it is just as thorough and well thought out as her classes!
