An easy read and a solid police procedural thriller in the ilk of that we have come to expect from Lisa Jackson.
Satisfying throughout with a good conclusion.

I'm not sure about this story, whilst it is okay, the character of Nikki was super annoying, always getting in the way of her husband police investigation. Even though she had just suffered another miscarriage and been witness to a death, on she plowed with not really a care in the world apart from that of her exclusive story! I liked the investigation side of the book with Detective Reed and his partner.

I see that it is part of a series, but I certainly found there didn't appear to be any link to previous stories to make it difficult to get into the characters and location.

I received this book from Netgalley in the return for an honest review.

Sorry to say that I found this book rather disappointing.. I was really looking forward to reading it but I found the plot had more holes than a Swiss cheese and I found the behaviours of some of the characters baffling. I had no empathy with the characters at all. I’ve read books by this author before and enjoyed them which made this all the more disappointing. I felt the plot was very thin and didn’t hold any surprises for me.

This is the fourth book in the series, and reads nicely enough as a standalone. There was twists and turns galore, and kept me entertained until the end. Recommended.

Thanks to Hodder and Stoughton for the opportunity to read this book.

I've read a few books by Lisa Jackson and enjoyed them all so had high expectations and wasn't disappointed. I noticed this was the 4th in a series, but was thoroughly enjoyable as a standalone and didn't need to be read in advance, though I'm sure I will read the rest of the series.

The old Beaumont mansion is a rotting shell of its once-grand self, especially after a disastrous hurricane sweeps through Georgia. The storm does more than dislodge shutters and shingles. It leads to a grisly find in the cellar. Three graves. But only two skeletons

An exciting twisty thriller with some great characters.

This was a slow burner for me and it took me a while to get into it. That said, I'm glad I stuck with it.
The premise of this book is thrilling when a local downandout breaks in to a rundown, once prestigious property in pursuit of hidden treasures he gets more than he bargained for when he stumbles upon the remains of two young girls belonging to two of three sisters who disappeared years earlier.
When the narrative kicks in there are plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing, in the end an enjoyable and somewhat unpredictable thriller.

Apparently this book is one of a series about detective Pierce Reed and his reporter wife Nikki. I haven't read any of the others but did enjoy this book so will try and find the preceding ones.
In this book an old house has a secret. Two girls remains are found there. Three sisters had gone missing years before and the remains are of two of them. There is a third grave but no body. Where is the missing girl and who killed them? Those are the questions for the police and detective Pierce to answer. His wife Nikki went to school with some of the characters involved in this story and is even more curious than usual. She desperately wants to become a crime reporter and hopes that by solving this case she will be promoted to get dream job. It does not run smoothly!!! Her curiosity ends up with Pierce 's partner dying and Nikki becoming a target. Will they solve the murders before she is killed? A good paced story, enjoyable read.

Thank you to NetGalley for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review. After a hurricane the skeletons of 2 girls are discovered with an empty space that was clearly for a 3rd body. Detective Reed is called to the scene. It is quickly determined the bodies relate to a twenty year old cold case of three sisters - Holly, Poppy, and Rose - who went missing from the local movie theatre. It is apparent that the body of the smallest girl is missing.
This book didn't really meet expectations for me. For a woman who suffered multiple miscarriages she takes no care of herself, getting herself into silly/dangerous situations, she ignores her husband who is detective Reed and as a couple they had zero chemistry. The plot was ok, with regards to the missing girls, however I really disliked the character of Nikki and this is the reason I have only given it 2 stars

This wasn’t a great read for me to be honest. I couldn’t get along with the character Nikki in it and it kind of ruined it for me. A few twists and turns but it just wasn’t my kind of read

When I requested this book I did not realise it's a book 4 in a series, and when I realised that it was already too late and I had to continue reading ;-)

Anyways, even though the twist it's pretty obvious if you're a thriller/crime reader, but this book is a page turner and it won't disappoint you.
Even if you haven't read previous books (as I havent) it won't prevent you from enjoying this one.
The writing isnt the best (abundance of phrases like "by-the-book" and "no-nonsense" when relating to women). The POVs siht during a chapter so you're not always sure who's the narrator at given time and that's my biggest problem. I mean, if you choose a POV, then stick to it. If you need to change narrator then, idk, maybe make the chapters shorter?

In general it's not the best book ever written but it's a decent one.

Det Reed is on a case which involves the historic murders following two bodies being found in an old abandoned house.
The mystery is also why only two bodies when there were three graves.
Things get complicated for Det Reed as his journalist wife also begins to investigate what happened all those years ago.
More murders occur which they need to determine if they are connected to the old case.
Great read and the storyline keeps you reading for an unexpected result!

I didn't realise that this book was part of a series. I have not read any of the others and found that it can be read as a stand alone.

The plot was good with some red herrings along the way. I did struggle to like one of the main characters, Nikki, and found her to be quite annoying although I do think that is the way the character is meant to be.

Thank you to #NetGalley for a copy of the bookin exchange for an honest review. #TheThirdGrave

My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for my Kindle version of The Third Grave. I hadn't realised that this was part of a series but it worked pretty well as a standalone story. There were a number of errors along the way which should have been picked up by Beta readers or whatever, this is a particular gripe of mine as it seems to happen so often.

I'm afraid that this book didn't really hold my interest and that was mainly because I really didn't like the journalist Nikki Gillette at all and felt that her husband was a bit of a sop when it came to her interfering in his work as a detective. She never seemed remorseful enough for the death of his partner either. Maybe if I'd read the others in the series I'd have enjoyed it more but I doubt it.

A roller coaster of a thriller which has more twists and turns than a coastal road. I found it a slow starter, but was soon reeled in with the cleverness of the plot and some ingenious dead ends.

Part 4 of a series but I had not read the previous ones and I found it pretty good as a standalone book.
Good storyline, twists and turns but maybe not the best book I've read this year. Still worth reading though.

This is the fourth book in the Pierce Reed and Nikki Gillette, series and can in my opinion read as a standalone .

Bruno Cravens has always believed his Grandfather's tales of hidden jewellery in the old Beaumont Mansion and in the aftermath of a hurricane he makes his way inside - totally unprepared for what he finds in the basement - three graves - two with skeletons one empty .
Detective Reed Pierce and his team were soon on site trying to ascertain just who they had found and the mystery of the empty grave .
Unknown to Pierce and against his orders his reporter wife , Nikki , has made her way to the scene - were the skeletons those of the missing Duval sisters ? Her attempt to investigate unseen soon prompts a series of events that put lives at risk - and not just her own . As the body count rises so does the tension between Pierce and Nikki , can their marriage survive ? will they survive a killer determined to keep the past just where it belongs - in the past !
This is an enjoyable fast paced thriller full of twists and turns , with as much attention given to Police procedure as that of the character interactions .

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Part of a series featuring detective Pierce and his reporter wife. Two bodies but three missing sisters, what games to Rose. Complex mystery with lots of twists.

Three graves, two bodies, a missing third sister. The Beaumont family appear to hold the key to the mystery but they are only interested in money and whatever lies and deceit is necessary to further their interests. Detective Reed and his wife are on the track of a killer. but the cards are stacked against any speedy solution to this cold case and time is running out. The storyline has a background of a dark threatening ambiance which develops atmosphere and adds colour to this psychological mystery. Although the author has used the husband and wife team in several other books the ongoing relationship between them in this book sometimes jarred and irritated , distracting from the suspense mystery and satisfying conclusion. Many thanks to author, publisher and NetGalley for ARC.
