Anna moves to Port Agnes following the death of her parents. She meets her fiancé Brae and they plan to get married. During this period Anna and Beae are struggling to conceive their first child. Which, for Anna, signifies a part of her parents being with her. Will they manage to conceive ? Can Anna overcome her longing for her parents?

After reading the first book in the series "The Cornish Midwife." I knew I wanted to read the others in the series.

It is a short and enjoyable read. It does exactly what is says on the tin and the cornish descriptions make you feel like you are there. It is lovely to be back in Port Agnes expanding the characters met in the first book.

However some aspects of the book feel like they are missing. At certain points throughout you skip forward in time. It appears to be over the big things that are skipped. Such as Anna and Brae's fertility tests. It makes it feel like your missing the high emotion aspects of the characters lives that you'd love to be involved in. Your then left wanting to know how that event went rather than moving forward with the characters. I assuming this is the style of the book as it was the same in the first one too.

Also I did find that the start was quite slow at times. You were trotting along with the characters (Although nothing wrong with that) until about three quarters of the way through when the twists start happening. I personally would have preferred these to have been brought forward in order to go into more depth with them.

This was the first book that I’d read by Jo Bartlett but it won’t be the last. An engaging easy read, I enjoyed it very much.

A Summer Wedding For The Cornish Midwife

This book follows the story of Anna the senior midwife in Port Agnes after the break up from her long term fiancé . She then has a whirlwind romance and falls in love with Brae a former sailor/fish & chip shop owner. The book follows Anna’s story and the trials , tribulations of all the midwifes and locals of the small town.

It covers many sensitive issues beautifully from an former anorexic expectant mother, a group of woman unable to conceive for many reasons and an emergency in a wild storm and the many local characters some of whom are extremely eccentric.

Another fantastic book in the Cornish Midwife series . The book draws you in immediately and you’ll laugh , cry and be on the edge of your seat at some of the events.

First time ever with this author and she didn’t let me down!! Wonderful storyline atmosphere characters location. Love the job of the main characters. Cannot sell this book enough really really loved it

I loved the first book in this series and it was fabulous to dive back in to the gorgeous Cornish town of Port Agnes and catch up with the midwives. This is predominantly Anna’s story as she prepares for her wedding to the lovely Brae but she has her fair share of drama on the way to saying ‘I do’. There are plenty of heart-in-mouth moments as I anxioiusly turned the page, hoping everything would work out well.

Although the focus of A Summer Wedding… is on Anna, there are plenty of other stories starting to unfold and I’m excited to see what happens next for the other midwives as they deal with challenges inside and out of work.

It’s a big decision to start a family but making the decision to have a baby doesn’t mean it will be plain sailing and Jo Bartlett handles the various challenges sensitively and realistically. Her writing is warm and captivating and I very much feel part of the community. Already excited to read the next one.

this was the first time I was reading a book by Jo Bartlett and I was really excited to read her new book. This book was really pleasant, full of events, romance and friendship. Unfortunately I wasn't drawn to the story maybe because I don't have kids myself but I just couldn't feel excited about the story. In my opinion there were too many delivery scenes in this book. I wasn't expecting this. But other than that, it was a really lovely book!

Gosh, it feels like if it could go wrong it will go wrong for Anna and Brae in this latest story involving the The Cornish Midwives of Port Agnes! With storms, rescues, fire and the usual midwifery emergencies this is a story filled with disasters but also packed with love and dreams.

It is a heartwarming story where friends and the community work together to help make Anna and Brae’s wedding goes smoothly – despite all the fraught and disastrous events in the run up to their special day. Their fears, hopes and dreams are explored, especially Anna’s concerns about her ability to have a baby. It also shows that sometimes what initially feels a portent of doom can turn out to be a fortuitous change for the better.

It is a great addition to this series, demonstrating the high esteem in which the midwives are held in this lovely community. It was lovely to catch up on Ella and Dan, to discover how things are working out for Jess and probably are for Toni, too. I really hope the next book will share more of their stories – I can’t wait to read them and find out more about the Port Agnes community.

Some women dream of marrying the man of their dreams and starting a family, in the hope of raising the children like her parents did her. Not all dreams seen possible. Anna was a community midwife in Port Agnes in Cornwall. After a whirlwind romance with Brae Penrose she finally realizes this is the man for her. Preparations for the wedding are finished and all there is to do is get up in the morning and have her hair and make-up done. Unfortunately, disaster strikes, a bride to be nightmare. However all their friends and the community of Port Agnes pull together and hopefully they can get the wedding back on track. This was an excellent read. The characters were all loveable and believable. It shows how a close community stick together and when the chips are down, they are all there to help out. I think this is quite true of many villages. Braes love for Anna shone out of the pages, as did their friendship with their best friends Dan and Ella. The vision of Port Agnes, the sea and RNLI brings Cornwall to life and reminds us of the dangers of the sea. This is a magical read and I thoroughly enjoyed my first Jo Bartlett novel and can’t wait to read many more. Thank you, Jo, for enhancing my week with this brilliant book.

This book has all my favourite elements for this genre. Give me a book set in Cornwall and I’m there, add in a wedding and I’m with you forever.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, reading it immediately after the Cornish Midwife book as I was thrilled to find the next in the series. It was great to be back in Port Agnes and this time we find out more of the story of Anna, who lost her parents within a short period of time. Her grief is handled very sympathetically and is countered by the chaos surrounding her wedding to the lovely sounding Brae. We keep in touch with Ella too, whose own love life is going from strength to strength.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book - perfect reading for a summer staycation.
I really hope there’s another book to come as Port Agnes, and its residents, has fully captured my interest. .

She returns with a two month lease for a holiday cottage.
Quickly she makes friends with the bar staff and they tell her about the lovely pub landlord Joe. With her heart hammering she hopes it’s not her Joe, the sexy surf instructor. It is of course!
They quickly become friends and Joe and Rihanna became a team.
This book was a lovely summer holiday read. Perfect for a pool read.

This is the second book in a series and I wish I had read the first before this one as it often links back to the first book. However it is still worth reading as a stand-alone story. The setting is beautiful and the characters interesting and likeable. Perfect for a sunny staycation in the UK.

It is great to be back in Port Agnes again, this is the second book in this series and I hope there will be more to come. Love and friendships in and out of the workplace along with lovely settings of Cornwall make for a great novel and very well written by Jo. This is a 5 star novel.

I thoroughly enjoyed the opening novel in this series, The Cornish Midwife so I was delighted to read what happens next to Anna and Ella and the rest of the Midwifery team. Their work lends itself to meeting interesting characters and situations and once again, you get to see the variety of their work. It is crystal clear how well regarded the team is by the local community, most of whom feel they owe them a debt of gratitude. Ella and Anna's professionalism shines through again as their work always takes priority.

With family at the centre of Anna's work and her personal life, you always have sympathy for her as she struggles to cope with grief and loss. Nevertheless, she stays positive and her hard work and kindness is repaid when she needs it most. There is true romance within these pages and some close relationships which results in a warm and uplifting read. It is also interesting to glimpse the flip side of a happy family through the adoption and fostering segments. You are certainly led to the conclusion that families can be made if the will to love is there. Anna is nearing her forties and struggling to conceive her own longed-for baby. Through the story, you see her grow in her attitude to what is important. With its gorgeous setting and lively characters, the novel did not disappoint and hopefully, the next in the series will let you know what happens next...

Another wonderful story in the Cornish Midwives series. I can’t imagine loving the setting any more and I wish these delightful characters existed in a sweet little coastal village I could visit.

Brae and Anna’s story really begins in The Cornish Midwife but that’s not a problem as this is the novel that really explores their relationship from within. Perhaps, if you read the other book first you’ll be even more invested in Brae and Anna and maybe even understand a touch more just how Brae can be as steadfast as he is. That said, even from the first few chapters of this novel, you’ll definitely be rooting for Anna and invested in her learning to truly believe in unconditional love.

At times, the reader might be frustrated by Anna’s second guessing her worthiness, but as the story unfolds and all her insecurities are laid bare, it’s easy to understand just why she’s as she is. So much of her present is shaped by her past joys and hurts. We are taken on quite a journey as we see Anna relearn what a family might look like for her.

Brae is the sweetest, most patient partner ever! His thoughtfulness and devotion are exactly what Anna needs, and he knows it. The final chapters where Brae, Ella and Dan work magic to pull off a dream prove just how motivating true love can be.

An interesting element is how we get a few chapters told from Ella’s perspective. (She was the heroine of book 1). While the majority of the story is told from Anna’s point of view, we get a couple chapters from Ella’s more ‘outside’ voice. It’s a bit different but also allows the reader to experience how truly loved Anna is by her friends and community.

Once again there are descriptions of the daily work life of the midwives. We see them in their routines and also in some rather dramatic situations. One thing that comes across each time is how committed one must be to excel in this noble profession.

As a lead up to the next story in the series, we also have a few chapters told from the perspective of another midwife, Jess. Jess’ trials are a bonus secondary plot line. A couple strands are tied up for us in this book but there are hints to a much deeper and possibly truly emotional story to come.

So, I’m officially moving Jo Bartlett to my list of favourite authors and making this series a top pick too! I’m already looking forward to the next.

🦋I have been reading a lot of thrillers lately and this was such a nice change of pace. Have you seen the TV show “Call the Midwife”? Well it’s amazing and when I saw the title of this book, I knew I wanted to read it!

🦋This novel is a light-hearted romance that if you wanted to, you could read in one sitting. I loved the point of view from the different midwives, and the sense of community that you get from this story. The author and her writing style definitely knew how to hook the reader.
