It's the following Thursday.
Elizabeth has received a letter from an old colleague, a man with whom she has a long history. He's made a big mistake, and he needs her help. His story involves stolen diamonds, a violent mobster, and a very real threat to his life.
As bodies start piling up, Elizabeth enlists Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron in the hunt for a ruthless murderer. And if they find the diamonds too? Well, wouldn't that be a bonus?
But this time they are up against an enemy who wouldn't bat an eyelid at knocking off four septuagenarians. Can The Thursday Murder Club find the killer (and the diamonds) before the killer finds them?
Absolutely fantastic , so happy to be back with these characters again and what a great story, Richard has done it again and I can’t wait for more, brilliant read and highly recommended

I loved the first book, so I couldn't wait to dive back into the Thursday Murder Club world and I'm glad to say it didn't disappoint. The wit and characters were as good as ever and I cannot wait to read the third instalment.
The Man Who Died Twice welcomes us back into the motley crew and they are as witty and fun as ever. Joyce with her new Instagram account @greatjoy69 - yep and she's delighted with herself! The ever mysterious and sassy Elizabeth, who I feel we get to know better in this sequel. Ron and Ibrahim continue to be the 2 friends every group should have, they kind of remind me of Chandler and Joey! And then of course we have Donna and Chris, who seem to take a little more a backseat in this book in comparison to the first but continue to bring a great dynamic to the group. The chemistry, love, and friendship between this unlikely lot is just as strong and genuine as the first book and you can't help but love them even more. They each bring their own unique touch to the story and Osman depicts them in such a way that you can picture them as real people and you feel a part of the club.
The writing and tone of voice is just as good as the first one. There are so many laugh out loud moments and Osman captures the personalities and the voices of each of the characters so well. I really like the dual perspectives that we also had in the first book, where we observe what is happening from a third party perspective but then we also get thrown in and feel a part of it with Joyce's first person diary entries.
The story itself has a number of fun twists and turns and there are several sub plots that add some nice layers, without over complicating things. You get to learn more about each of the characters as these different stories unfold and just when you think you have them figured out, they continue to surprise you. The various twists and turns that come your way are sometimes so random and unexpected (as they should be!) but they add to the overall narrative and strengthen what is in fact a very good murder thriller.
So look, big love for this book and I can't wait to read the next one. The main reason I didn't give it full marks was because I enjoyed the first one a little more but I think that was due to the novelty of the characters.
If you're looking for a clever and fun book, then this is definitely worth a read.

Sadly this book wasn't for me. I really enjoyed the first Thursday Murder Club but I couldn't put my finger quite on what I didn't like in this one. I think for me the characters aren't rounded enough and don't compel me to keep reading about them. I found the plot predictable and just wanted so much more from this book. I will still read Osmans books in the future and it's not put me off reading his as I enjoy his writing style and turn of phrase.

I thought that these books would be more enjoyable and for me since they’d been so popular, but the writing seems very satirical which really ruins any book for me. Real old people aren’t like this and in general people aren’t like this so it’s frustrating to read a book where all the characters feel like cartoon characters when it’s meant to be a murder mystery for actual adults.

You feel like you know the characters so well from the first one, it is great to get to see their lives again. This is the very definition of a cosy mystery to me!

Richard Osman just gets better and better! This book follows four old age pensioners who make up the Thursday Murder Club, a sequel to his first bestseller. The plot line is much better than the debut novel, with so much humour it’s hard to put down!

I picked this one up over a year after finishing the first so it took me a little bit of time to get back into it and remember where I was. Once in I found the story even more entertaining than the first, maybe because I already knew the characters from the previous novel perhaps? It was fast paced for the most part but I did find it lagged a little towards the end. Saying that an enjoyable read and I will be picking up the third.

The Man Who Died Twice is a page-turning follow up to Richard Osman's hugely successful debut, The Thurday Murder Club. Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim, and Ron are back to solve another murder, but this time the victim is closer to home.
Osman has found his feet in The Man Who Died Twice. The characters are more rounded, the dialogue is witty, and the storyline moves at a better pace than in his first book. It's not a world-changing book, and there are fewer subtle occurrences of social commentary, but it's an enjoyable read and one you'll get through in no time.

Richard Osman's gang of OAPs don't stop delighting in this sequel to the brilliant, Thursday Murder Club. It is the epitome of cosy crime, and a wonderful, fast paced delight of a read!

Richard Osman does it again! I just love all of the characters, fun and mystery with this series of books.

Great fun, well written as you would expect, the intelligence and gentle humour is there. I love the idea of older people getting up to more than sitting in a chair.
With thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Richard Osman has done it again.
This was such a fun read, the characters feel like my friends and i love hanging out with them.
5/5 Would recommend!

Mixed reviews seen for this book I however loved it Richard island characters are likeable and love their interactions always want to know more

I have so wanted to like these books as I like the author. I have read the first book in the series, and whilst I didn't dislike it, I didn't really like it either. I have heard from others that the second book of the series was much better, so decided to read it. The storyline was much more interesting and as I knew some of the characters it was easier to read. However, I still just struggled with the storyline and lost interest very quickly. I just don't think I'm a cozy crime kind of person! I really like the author, but I think I should probably give up trying to read this series now as it's obviously not my kind of thing.

The loveable Thursday Murder Club are back again, and this time they’re in even deeper waters with the involvement of MI5, a drugs cartel and many people in danger.
Elizabeth centers more in this and we know she has a past in detective/police work, but here we get an insight to her past as an operative and spy. It really is wonderful how she can play both spy and charming old lady when she needs to! I love how many layers there are to her character and that we keep learning more about her. I think there will be more surprises as the series goes on.
There are lots of witty one liners and funny moments as is usual, especially from dear Joyce (wait till you read her Instagram username) but what I love is that Osman weaves the funny moments in with a brilliant plot and shocking twists. He also writes sad bits extremely well and they always make me teary. The scene with Ron and Ibrahim in the hospital had me reaching for a tissue!
Osman’s narrative is so refreshing, straightforward and doesn’t skimp on a real story either. Every character is loveable and every scene will have you laughing, shocked or hooked. The sequel is definitely a glow up of the first book which I adore, because you always want the sequel to be even better and this one was.
The ironic bits are what make the story really. There’s Elizabeth’s husband, Stephen, who has dementia but knows every detail of murders and who has given who drugs, Ron and Ibrahim’s friendship and the fact Chris is now dating Donna’s mum. You could never call Osman predictable, as you never know what he’ll come out with next and his works prove that. It’s absolutely brilliant.

It’s the following Thursday and, just when it seems that things can’t possibly get any more exciting for the stalwarts of the Thursday Murder Club, Elizabeth receives a letter from a former colleague who is planning to move into a flat within the Coopers Chase retirement community. Never one to divulge more than is strictly necessary about her past, Elizabeth eventually reveals to Joyce, Ron and Ibrahim that she last saw fellow ex-spy Marcus Carmichael back in 1980-something… when she was tasked with identifying his body.
Marcus’s sudden resurrection is only one aspect of the latest puzzle facing the four octogenarian investigators, as they soon discover that there are also missing diamonds, gangland grudges and would-be assassins to deal with, and that’s before the first real murder occurs.
The Man Who Died Twice is the second case to be tackled by Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron and Ibrahim, crime fiction’s favourite band of sleuthing seniors, who have yet to encounter a puzzle they can’t solve. The central mystery is every bit as fun and compelling as the friendship and banter among the main characters.

The Man Who Died Twice
By Richard Osman
We now have a second visit to The Thursday Murder Club at Cooper Chase retirement village in Fairhaven. Another adventure for ‘The murder Club’ to the missing uncut diamonds.
The book follows many twists, turns and dead ends. With the sadness, the humour and the many characters. The book’s a joy to read at any time. It gives you hope at the darkest times and shows things are not always as they seem.
An even better book than the first although each can be read as a stand alone book.
As a former Sussex resident I have loved these well written books for many reasons; they deal with some very taboo subjects of daily life with sensitivity and humour which works beautifully but does not insult the subject matter and lastly the nostalgia for me is an extra bonus! 2 previous books much loved - I’ve bought the next in anticipation.
Thank you Richard Osman a well deserved

I absolutely loved this second instalment. Richard Osman truly has a way with words that is hard to come across. The character relationships were built on beautifully in this and Osman’s writing continues to improve. Excited to see where the story goes.

A great follow up! Love this series and really glad I got to read this on netgalley. A good plot for a follow up novel and still had the charm of the first book as well as our favourite characters.

This was slightly disappointing to me- I feel like the ‘brand’ of this series doesn’t quite fit me. It was an enjoyable read, do’t get me wrong, but a little boring and not quite as funny as it thinks it is. Many thanks to Netgalley for an arc of this book
