Harry is the daughter of working class parents but against all odds she heads of to University. The men folk are just arriving back from war bringing with them the traumas of their experiences. Harry meets up with Ned and falls in love.but Harry needs to learn to trust men again after a horrible experience. I found the northern accent used in this book detracted from the storyline for me. The story itself was interesting and well researched but it wasn’t a book that I couldn’t wait to pick up.
A really interesting novel. It covers some hard topics in a sensitive manner. It is very well written and very good to read. The characters are well thought through and the story line has a good pace. I really enjoyed reading it even with its gritty sory line. I can definitely recommend reading it.
A well written story covering many aspects of life as a young woman struggles to put her past behind her and recover from some really traumatic events. Will love help her!
It is hard to put down
A quick and easy read that I found myself picking up after a long day to unwind. The characters are beautifully written and I came to love them within the first few pages and was rooting for them all the way to the end. At times I wanted to stop reading because I just wanted the experience to go on for longer.
We follow Harmony aka Harry through school and university where she doesn’t have her troubles to seek. She makes some bad choices in men along the way. The staple one in her life was her father, Sam Loveridge who loves his wife Ellen dearly. There is so much feeling in this book and the historical element is fascinating. Recommend this.
This book is the story of Harry (short for harmony) the daughter of Sam. It begins with the tragic events of her childhood and i must say i loved reading this book and can highly recommend it to readers.5*
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. Old fashioned feel good read with a good storyline and good characters. I enjoyed it.
I loved this book. I hadn't read the first one in this series (presuming it's going to be a series?) but that didn't matter at all. I could still follow the story and get involved with the character.
This novel is the story of Harry - short for Harmony - the daughter of Sam. It begins with the tragic events of her childhood before moving on as she goes to university to study.
I don't read many historical novels but impressed by the level of research that must have gone into creating this one. Fascinated too as there were some parallels with my own life. Can't reveal too much as I don't want to spoil the plot for other readers but I went to university in Nottingham, my best friend was in Florence Boot hall of residence, my dad was a coal miner....there were many others.
