An excellent read and enjoyable book. One which you can not second guess the ending. Well written . I would very much recommend this as a good holiday read.

We meet Amelia and Adam, a (not necessarily happily) married couple, as they are on their way up to Scotland after Amelia wins a stay there in a raffle. Things start badly, as the couple fight through increasingly terrible weather on their way to the old converted chapel, and go from bad to worse as they find themselves in an isolated, dusty old setting, getting on each others’ nerves and with a growing sense of unease mounting.

Through flashbacks to letters written to Adam on each wedding anniversary, and chapters from the points of view of Adam, Amelia, and their new neighbour in Scotland, Robin, we learn that all is not as it seems in their marriage or with the situation in which they currently find themselves.

This is a twisting, turning tale, so to say more may be to give away spoilers. Therefore, I will say that I found the first two-thirds of this a little dull. All of the characters are pretty unsympathetic, and I found it hard to become interested in their mutual disdain. The introduction of certain elements felt a little cliched, and I only really cared about Bob the dog for most of the book. However, the ending totally saved it. It was an ending that I didn’t see coming, and I loved it for that since the rest of the book had been somewhat formulaic.

Not one of my favourites, but diverting enough.

My thanks to the author, NetGalley, and the publisher for the arc to review.

This book started off incredibly slowly and I didn’t find myself invested at all. The first 100 pages really seemed to drag and whilst there were a few little twisty moments I didn’t really care at all, which is so different to every other Alice Feeney books I’ve read which always start off strong and intense. As well as this, there was too much reference to secrets between the couple but it took so long for anything to be revealed that I found myself losing interest.

However, after the first 100 pages things started to pick up and I found myself more intrigued. I knew that things couldn’t be quite as they seemed and I became more and more intrigued as to the situation that Adam and Amelia had found themselves in. There was a lot of mystery, they have obviously been keeping secrets from each other, plus there was the addition of a mysterious third party perspective who clearly knows something too.

I was very impressed with the way the author tricks you, leading you one way until you’re certain you know what’s going on and leaving you just long enough to get confident in your theory, thinking you’re some brilliant detective, before completely debunking your entire theory. I had so many theories about who was who and what was going on and I was glad to say that I was wrong about all of them. I’m sure others will predict the twists throughout this book but I saw none of them coming and was happily surprised with each new direction this book took, I just wish we had started it a bit earlier.

Alice Feeney did a fantastic job creating the tense and creepy atmosphere of this abandoned chapel where the couple have found themselves, along with the ominous third party. The mood was really good, especially towards the end of the book, and it became really fast paced when things started to come together which I really enjoyed.

I did really enjoy this one, I just wanted more from the start! It took a bit too long to get going for my liking, but I’m glad the ending made it worth it!

(3.5 Stars, rounded up).

I really enjoyed this book. The author created a realistically chilly atmosphere when describing the location and the old building. I loved the description of their relationship and how couples change over the length of their marriage. I did not see the main twist coming and had to catch my breath!

Such a good thriller, had me on the edge of my seat!

I love the trope of "the perfect couple " but with hidden secrets.

Great writing style, however predictable at times. I would recommend though.

Thank you Netgalley and Macmillan for access to this digital arc in exchange for my honest opinion..

This story had a little of everything and I loved it. It was a thriller, it was a mystery with twists and turns that kept me changing my guesses numerous time.

The atmosphere this book created chilled me. I was in that chapel, in the middle of nowhere, spooked and creeped out. The pacing of the book kept me reading into the night, finishing the story in less than two days. It was hard to put it down as I wanted to know what would happen next. It kept me engaged in the situation with flawed characters and assumptions that kept you guessing. Some twists I could see coming, but even if I did, the pace kept you engaged, wanting to be right.

This is a quick and fun read with different POV's and different time lines. Highly Recommend!

Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney
I give this book 4 stars

Ten years of marriage.
Ten years of secrets.
An anniversary they’ll never forget.
Adam and Amelia are spending the weekend in the Scottish Highlands.
But when their romantic trip takes a dark turn, they both start to wonder – can they trust the one they’re with?
Because every couple tells little white lies. Only for Adam and Amelia, the truth is far more dangerous.

This creepy story is told from the perspectives of the 3 main characters, and is interspersed with letters written but never given on each Wedding Anniversary. And of course the Rock Paper Scissors game is cleverly featured as well. A twisty book filled with secrets, lies and mystery and the interesting inclusion of living with prosopagnosia (which ld never heard of) l started it one day and finished it the next and am now eagerly awaiting the Netflix adaptation.
With thanks to Netgalley,Alice Feeney and HQ Publishing for my chance to read and review this book.

I mean wow, this took me in such a rollercoaster! I can’t imagine being in Adam shoes and being unable to see faces or pick someone I love out from a crowd. It must be very hard and to put that trust in someone… would you trust them? I honestly don’t know.

I love how the book was based in the Scottish highlands. One of my favourite places in world is being lost amongst the mountains in Scotland. Travelling there but I would hate to have gone through what Adam and his wife went through.

The twists and turns and the ending had me shocked and stunned. I honestly didn’t see that coming. I would never have guessed the ending and the whole aspect of ‘who-dunnit’.

Fantastic work from Alice. This was my first and definitely not my last!

Thanks to Netgalley and Alice for allowing me this ARC!

Engrossed from page one. Just when I thought I had figured things out a new reveal showed me how wrong I was right up to the last page.
Relationships, husband and wife, parent and child are key to the story but not who you expect.
Enjoy, I definitely did.

I thoroughly enjoyed rock paper scissors. I find that generally I am fairly good at working out plot lines and twists, however this book kept me completely stumped right up until the twist was revealed. I didn't have any idea where it was heading but enjoyed the clever plot when all was revealed. It kept me guessing, which I loved and would recommend for anyone who enjoys a twisty thriller.

The characters were all somewhat unlikeable but that all kind of worked perfectly with the storyline. I am definitely wanting to read more by the author after reading rock paper scissors

This book has a good premise; interesting graphics and 3 complex characters.

Adam and Amelia are a couple with marriage problems and when Amelia unexpectedly wins a weekend in Scotland, they both go with separate agendas. There is suspense that builds throughout as the tale is told from 3 character perspectives. Unfortunately, I found it a tad flat and unlike this author's previous work.

There are aspects that maintained my interest; firstly, Adam's medical condition of Prosopagnosia, which means he can't recognise faces and the annual anniversary letters that are written by 'the wife' and which are shared as the story progresses.

Overall, it's a decent 3* Good Read, just not as good as I was hoping. However, it's an easy read with a twist at the end.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to preview.

This book is told from different viewpoints.... When Amelia , Adams wife wins a competition at work for a weekend away in a remote Scottish chapel, she thinks it will help them to get their marriage back on track. But what happens there? They are both keeping secrets from each other but what are they and can they save their marriage?
Loved this book. Can't wait to see it on tv!! Many thanks to Net galley for letting me read it and will definitely be recommending to friends and family. Will definitely be looking for more from Alice.

Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney required both perseverance and concentration. Told from a number of viewpoints, it was further complicated once I realised that none of the narrators could be trusted to tell the truth!!! The concept of face-blindness is interesting and Adam has to use different cues to recognise and appreciate his wife. Not always with total success. The book’s big twist caught me out so I don’t want to give any spoilers. Suffice to say there is loads of atmosphere, tension, misdirection and all within a fast paced and fairly gripping storyline. The anniversary letters are a great touch, adding insight and clarity to events. This would be a great wee mini series for tv Four stars

Wow! What a book! I read Rock, Paper, Scissors in less than a day, on the edge of my seat the whole time and desperate to know the outcome.

It has everything you could want – an isolated Scottish chapel for creepy ambience, secrets, lies, unreliable narrators and a hint of the supernatural.

Told from a few different perspectives and without giving too much away, the story focuses on the relationship between a husband and wife in the present day, with letters interspersed documenting their changing relationship throughout each previous wedding anniversary.

Alice Feeney has created such a page-turner and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.

Perfect for all fans of psychological thrillers and mysteries. If you read one thriller/suspense novel this year – make it this one!

Loved this book!
Told from the perspectives of husband, wife and letters that have been written throughout their marriage.
Loved following the story, definitely felt claustrophobic and didn't see what was coming at all. Lots of short chapters and everyone nearly a cliffhanger to keep you reading.
Fab book, thank you #netgalley for an ARC of this book.

This was an intriguing book that slowly gathered pace. Told from three very different points of view (one of them living with “face blindness” and another telling their tale through a series of letters), the tale became totally gripping from 80% in. Unfortunately the ending seemed rather abrupt and rushed, but even so, this is an unusual slow burn thriller that’s worth reading. 4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this novel. This is my unbiased review.

I really enjoyed Alice Feeney’s previous novel His and hers, so I was intrigued to find out when I received a copy of Rock Paper Scissors.
Adam Wright has suffered by Facial blindless all of his life. He recognises his friends and his wife Amelia by their attributes. He recognises his wife from her presence and the type of perfume she wears. But their marriage hasn’t been plain sailing. He is a workaholic as a screenwriter and usually ignores his wife most of the time. It is their tenth Wedding anniversary, so to rekindle the spark in their marriage they decide to go a weekend away to Scotland that Amelia supposed to have won in a competition. She thought it would rekindle what they once had. But someone is lying and not telling the truth.
The is another amazing read by the author. It is atmospheric and spooky and had some breath-taking moments. At first, I thought this was going to be like a slasher movie and everyone end up dead, but I was quite surprised at how it turned out. I liked the letters from each character at the anniversary showing how they really feel about each other. The only thing that confused me was the ending between the characters of Amelia and Robin. 4 stars from me.

I found this book intriguing and creepy all at the same time. I liked the way the story was told between letters and what was happening while leaving you guessing as to who the letter writer was as it was t as you thought.
I’m not sure I liked the ending but not sure how else it could finish.

Having loved “Sometimes I Lie”, I was looking forward to reading the latest offering by Alice Feeney and it certainly lived up to my expectations. A whirlwind of a book, told from the perspectives of Adam and Amelia - husband and wife who have headed to a remote part of the Highlands for a make or break weekend. Clearly their marriage is in trouble but can it be saved? Both of them are lying, both keeping secrets and both hiding things from each other.

Interwoven through the present day narratives are secret letters written to Adam on each wedding anniversary and these beautifully capture how a marriage can unravel over time.

Thrown into the mix is a third narrative, a spooky isolated setting, strange goings on and a reclusive observer who seems very interested in the visitors.

I was gripped by the relationship between the characters and couldn’t stop turning the pages as needed to understand what was happening and why. It is difficult to say more without spoilers but suffice to say, the revelations came as a huge surprise with twists I didn’t see coming!

Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read in return for my honest review.

Having not read a book from this author before I am really pleased I picked this book. The character development is fantastic and everyone has so many secrets that provide many twists throughout the book. Interesting basis in terms of screenwriting and film adaptation. At times the insinuation of ghosts etc is a bit much but in general a fantastic story that is would thoroughly recommend
