It took me a while to get into this book. I didn't really like the main characters but things improved once the unsent anniversary letters began. You start to warm to the characters. Didn't expect the revelations at the end.

Another thriller by Alice Feeney which gripped me from the beginning and didn’t let go.
Based in Scotland it follows a couple trying to mend their marriage and told from the perspective of different narrators it gives the reader a great perspective on the plot.
There are secrets in this book be the suspense and eerieness is the setting gave me a great read.
I have read a few books by Alice Feeney and the twists were of her usual brilliant standard and I would recommend this to anyone who loves a good thriller with twists aplenty.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this in return for an honest review.

Thank you to Netgalley, HQ Publishers and Alice Feeney for an ARC in return for an honest review.

This is certainly a book that keeps you on your toes, the huge hype surrounding this book is well-deserved. It is hard to write a review about this book without giving anything away. It is a little confusing at the beginning but makes sense in no time at all. Everything gets tied together and all questions are answered. This book is extremely well written. It is dark, scary and completely gripping from the get go. This is the first time I have read a book by Alice Feeney but it certainly won't be the last. This book is perfect for anyone who loves psychological thrillers. This is an author to watch. Highly recommend.

This is my first Alice Feeney novel and it won't be my last. I love a domestic thriller as the juxtaposition of the ordinary and every day with hidden secrets is completely thrilling to me. I was completely caught up with this story and once I started I couldn't put it down until I was finished. The writing, characters and plot line all kept me on the edge of my seat and I would definitely recommend.

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC copy.

Adam and Amelia are spending the weekend at a remote Scottish hideaway courtesy of Amelia winning a competition. After arriving they realise all is not as it seems. Who has lured them there and what secrets do they hide from each other?

So many clever twists with this book that I don't want to say too much as it would give spoilers. I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed it and the major twist made me go back and read the last few pages as it was an OMG and I thought I'd missed something. I found the end a little rushed for my liking but would still highly recomend.

Such a clever book, lots of twists and turns that will genuinely keep you hooked
A married couple at a crossroads in their lives go to a secluded spot in Scotland in a make or break weekend away, He Adam suffers from prosopagnosia, (love that every day is a school day when you’re a reader) and this plays a big part in the clever plot. I was completely taken in and stunned by the revelations of who was who and once they kept coming they didn’t stop. The book is centred around the relationship between Adam his wife. We move from reading her unsent anniversary letters to the present day, back and forth until it all becomes unbelievably clear
Just brilliant

Amelia and Adam Wright’s marriage is in desperate need of saving. So when Amelia wins a weekend away to Scotland, it looks like the perfect opportunity to spend some time together and reconnect. Adam suffers from prosopagnosia, face blindness, which means he can’t recognise anyone via their face -including his wife. Every year she writes him letters that she never gives to him until now. One of them has a long buried secret and someone is determined for Adam and Amelia’s happily ever after to come to an end. This thriller is incredibly unnerving and it seems that everyone has skeletons to hide. It’s very well written, truly gripping and highly unique with a few completely unguessable twists. I ate up this fantastically creepy page-turner in no time!

This was a superb story but although it starts and ends with a bang, the middle part goes a little slow in comparison. The letters written on each anniversary were so thoughtful and a great addition. It was very creepy and kept me guessing all the way through. Alice Feeney has written a very cleverly intriguing story that did keep me on edge and finishing with the amazing ending was incredible.
I will certainly add this author to my go to list.
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read such a great book.

I enjoyed this book but found it a little hard to follow towards the end. I wouldn’t say it was particularly gripping either. Glad I read it though.

I’m a bit disappointed that I don’t love this book as much as the many other reviewers seem to.

The book started well then I struggled to keep engaged until towards the end. I didn’t like any of the characters so couldn’t root for anyone to come out on top which is why I struggled.

Trying not to give anything spoilers, but I think the last 20% of the book is what most readers will enjoy.

I enjoyed this one. It was a page turner from the very beginning and had a great twist that I didn’t see coming. Bob the dog was my favourite character , the human characters were quite selfish and complicated. Definitely worth a read.

"...late is better than never. Sometimes the early bird eats too many worms and dies."

Amelia and Adam are spending the weekend in the remote Scottish highlands to try and rescue their marriage. Amelia thinks it is make or break time for them and is determined this will be the fix. Adam reluctantly agrees. After the long drive they find the renovated chapel they're staying in. Things feel off from the moment they arrive. The old place is creepy, cold and dusty like nobody’s been there in a long time. So when their romantic trip takes a dark turn, they both start to wonder - can they trust the one they're with? Will this weekend away be the thing to fix their marriage or will it be the thing that breaks them for good?

The story is full of suspense and twists, and a real page turner. It's the first book in a long time I've not wanted to put down. Without giving much more away the story is told from 3 POVs and annual letters to Adam from his wife written on their wedding anniversary are interspersed in the narrative. I loved the inclusion of these, they're a really clever device to contextualize how the couple have come to be in the position they're in. I really love Alice Feeney and will continue to recommend and pick up her books again and again!

Thanks HQ for providing me a copy to review!

Adam & Amelia are Mr & Mrs Wright, but in name only.

They venture on a weekend away to a remote part of Scotland to try and save their fragile marriage, one that is plagued by secrets and lies.

The story is told by both Adam and Amelia but with the added twist of a third party.

This book was difficult to start with as you can genuinely feel the animosity the two characters have towards each other, but the clever writing style and anniversary flashbacks leave you wondering if it really can be saved, until you are hit with the sudden realisation that you have been sold a Red Herring from the start.

The twists keep on coming to the very end and are beautifully crafted and very well hidden that will leave you feeling completely fooled

A highly recommended 5 star!

4.5⭐
I was fortunate to receive a copy of this ARC from HQ publishing and NetGalley.

This is the first Alice Feeney book that I've read. I thought the book had a lot of clever twists, although I did have to go back and re-read certain parts to then make sense of them and see what I'd missed!

I was a bit frustrated by how many times face blindness was mentioned. I understand it was key to the plot but it was just re-iterated too many times for me!

I enjoyed the creepy setting of this book adding to the undercurrent atmosphere.

My favourite quote:
"Time can change relationships like sea reshapes the sand."

As always I am so grateful to the publisher and Netgalley for an e-arc of this book! 2.5 at best. It did get a little bit interesting towards the end but it was so unbelievably dull for the first 65-70% of the book and that’s unforgivable for me especially for a thriller. The author packed about 5/6 different twists into the last 12% of the book and it was just overkill. I’m left feeling disappointed by it.
