Wow, where do I even begin? Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney is one of those books that’s almost impossible to review other than to say:
‘What are you waiting for? Go read it NOW!’
To say much more than that would do this book a disservice, as this is a story that needs to be read and experienced for yourself without knowing too much about it beforehand. So do yourself a favour, buy yourself a copy right now and start reading it today!
One of the few things I feel safe to tell you is that the story begins with Adam and Amelia going away for a romantic weekend in the remote Scottish Highlands. But when the romantic trip takes a dark turn the couple begin to wonder if there’s anyone they can trust. Anyone at all. Even each other…
I don’t know how she does it, but once again Alice Feeney has written a superbly plotted, dark and twisted story that keeps you guessing throughout. Her writing is sharp, her characterisation perfect and the plot is quite simply pure brilliance from beginning to end.
Rock Paper Scissors is so good I read the whole thing in one sitting, something that doesn’t happen very often these days. With twists, turns, shocks and surprises that will make you gasp out loud, this is a chilling read that I absolutely adored!
An exceptional read that I would highly recommend.

I love me a good moody, psychological thriller and this one truly delivered. The eerie, claustrophobic setting in remote Scotland gave me the heebie-jeebies all throughout the story, and those cheeky twists made me go EXCUUUSE ME! out loud like only the best thrillers do. Highly recommended.

Alice Feeney is known for being an author that excels in 'twisty-turny' thrillers - this book is no exception.
It took a little while to get going, but the later 50% of this book is like a rollercoaster. It's like a book of two halves. The second half is absolutely bonkers! Massively far fetched, but if you just kinda go with it you will enjoy it. Because it is so bonkers, I challenge anyone to guess the ending - I did not see it coming.
I enjoyed reading, but it was the over the top far fetched plot that I'll be remembering rather than a decent page-turner thriller.

Omg! Omg! Oh my god!!!
I couldn’t stop reading this book and now all those twists have made me speechless. What a brilliant thriller! I didn’t see any of the twists coming and they just kept coming after a point and I am amazed by the writers great work. This is a great read for anyone who loves a good thriller and highly recommend it. I am still shocked and wowed by everything in this book. This is the author’s first book I read and will surely look into her other books. I am completely blown away and this has to be one of the best thrillers I have read so far and definitely in my top5. If you love Agatha Christie’s book with mix of gone girl, you will love this book 100%.
I have been in a reading slump for a while now and this book might as well have helped me get back to reading. Just a fantastic book, quick read, couldn’t put it down and mind blowing added to my favorite list of books. Thankyou for this amazing story Alice Feeney and Netgalley and HQ for the e-arc.

Thank you to Netgalley, HQ and Alice Feeney for my arc of Rock Paper Scissors in exchange for an honest review.
Out now!
The mini break to a remote Scottish chapel turned cottage holiday destination is meant to save Amelia and Adam’s marriage which has been on the rocks lately. But the holiday is not what it seems. Right away from their arrival something feels off about the chapel, from the mysteriously absent housekeeper to the way the break was won in a raffle at Amelia’s work but everyone else got a tub of quality street. Something isn’t right.
I’m sad to say that this was an incredibly disappointing read for me. I’d seen it had a great write up in a magazine and also fantastic reviews on goodreads but it’s almost as if I must have read a different book.
The story was patchy, discombobulated, it seemed to stop, start and none of the characters were likeable. Many parts of it just went beyond the realms of belief and I cannot understand what everyone else felt blew them away about it.

This thriller had an intriguing premise from the first page - a husband who can’t recognise his wife, both on their way to a relationship saving holiday - but it was just a little bit clunky in its introduction, with too much of an explanation of the unique circumstances of the couple. It was a fun little read, with twists I definitely wasn’t expecting, but for all the explication I’m not sure I actually felt particularly close to any of the characters.

Finally, a thriller which is actually thrilling. There are many good books (and bad ones) labelled psychological thrillers, but often they are more family dramas that actual thrillers. This book manages to do be both quite successfully. Amelia and Adam's marriage is on the rocks, he is a successful screenwriter and spends too much time working. Also he suffers from face blindness, which means he can't recognise faces. They go to counselling and after having been offered a free weekend in the middle of nowhere in the Scottish Highlands, they go try to save their marriage. Once there, they realise the space is cold and spooky and strange things happen, this is the thrilling part of the book. You can read the couple's perspective, not one of them is actually a very reliable narrator, but you don't know whom to believe for most of the book. Every so often you will read a letter wrote but unsent by Adam's wife every year at their wedding anniversary. In this letters she expresses her true feelings. But then when you think you know where this book is going, here comes the major twist. It's a clever twist used in a few other psychological thriller, where whatever you thought you knew is turned on its head. I won't say anything more not to spoil the enjoyment. I would say that it's an enjoyable read, I would probably give it a 4.3 as a thriller.

Adam and Amelia are heading to Scotland for a weekend away as a last-ditch attempt to save their marriage. Staying in a converted chapel in the middle of nowhere, things start to get creepy when they are left stranded there in an unexpected snowstorm. As the pair start to explore their surroundings, it becomes clear that winning the getaway in a competition wasn't all it seemed - somebody wanted them there all along - but the who, why, when and where becomes more and more sinister as the pieces all begin to fall into place.
Using a series of letters written to Adam every year on their anniversary was a really effective way to build up a picture of their history together, compared to how their relationship is in the present day. The short chapters and cuts between the differing characters points of view really ramped up the tension. As the story unfolds it is obvious that they have different opinions on the state of their relationship, and that one or both are lying about numerous things, however because of the clever way in which it is written, it's impossible to know which one!
Rock Paper Scissors is the most unputdownable thriller I've read all year! Twist after twist after twist, and then another twist added for good measure. The story was cleverly crafted and left me questioning everyone and everything at various points - there was even a point where I said 'Oh no she didn't!' out loud - the ultimate indication of someone who has just been completely blindsided by yet another shocking reveal! A highly recommended 5 star thriller!
Many thanks to NetGalley and HQ for the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Wow this Is definitely one of the best books up you’ll read this year . It has everything , the tension , great characters and twists and turns . Has an ending that I wasn’t expecting , overall a brilliant book , definitely 5 star read

A brilliant read!
I am new to this author but really enjoyed this book and will definitely look out for more.
The story is told by Adam, Amelia and Robin. Adam and Amelia are married but both feel their relationship is in danger and go on a weekend away to try to save it.
The story is told on two time lines with the past being told as letters written to Adam by his wife on their anniversary each year.
The story is gripping from the start, but when the twists start coming it is unputdownable! The twists are many and will make you reread parts to make sure you understood the bombshell that was so quietly dropped.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy of this!
I read His and Hers last year and absolutely loved it so was overjoyed to be accepted to read this!
One word - WOW!
This book is utterly brilliant! I was addicted from the beginning.
The letters to Adam from his wife every year were a brilliant POV to read from, loved all the characters and the way the story was written had me gripped the whole time!
I can't say too much without giving anything away but I loved it, didn't see the twist and then when you thought you had it figured out, another twist.
If you love thrillers you have to read this, one of my favourite reads this year.
Eerie, dark and twisty, its a must!

I was a little disappointed in this book, having read her other book His and Hers I was hoping for similar or even better. This wasn’t the case. For a start this couple didn’t even like each other and that fact all through the book it started to grate on me. Why are they together if they dislike it each other so much. This spoilt the book for me. I know that relationships are not all sweetness and light, but, it seemed just a little over the top for me. Hopefully better in her next book. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

When Amelia wins a weekend away in a converted chapel in Scotland, she seizes the opportunity to have a romantic getaway with her husband Adam. After all, things have been turning sour between them for some time and it’s make or break time. But there is something wrong with the uninviting and spooky chapel and something even worse going on between them. Who can be trusted and whose secrets are the worst?
I loved “Sometimes I lie” though it blew my mind and was really keen to read some more of Alice Feeney’s work.
There is a lot to enjoy in her latest psychological thriller. I loved the dry humoured, tongue in cheek comments about bookworms and authors.
It’s an atmospheric read and I loved the structure with chapters written by both characters which reveal their true motivations and secrets. Interspersed throughout are secret letters written on each wedding anniversary which provide sharp contrast as their marriage crumbles. I guessed a twist or two but most I never saw coming and they were so cleverly crafted.
I would definitely recommend this to any thriller fan. I’ll be there for the author’s next book.
Thank you to Alice Feeney, HQ and Netgalley for the opportunity to review an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest opinion.

This twisty, exhilarating thriller had me guessing the whole time, as it stampeded along. As soon as saw this novel I knew it had to be read, and it certainly did not disappoint.
I thoroughly enjoyed Rock Paper Scissors, a deeply engrossing tale of manipulation and suspense. The book is narrated mostly from two alternating viewpoints, interspersed with undelivered letters. Amelia Wright is married to Adam, a screenwriter. They have been wed for ten years and Adam suffers from a condition that affects his ability to recognise people; prosopagnosia. Their marriage is on the rocks and their counsellor has suggested a weekend away might help so the Wrights are on their way from London to Scotland to stay in Blackwater Chapel in the Scottish Highlands, a trip that Amelia won in a work raffle. Every year on their anniversary, Amelia writes a letter to her husband that she doesn't allow him to read, until this year. When they arrive after braving the inclement weather conditions in their Morris Minor, the converted chapel is far from welcoming...
Alice Feeney has a very appealing style of writing and the characters she created were very believable, their natures giving me a great sense of apprehensiveness and foreboding. I was immediately questioning the characters motives, making for some exceptionally nerve-racking reading. I found Rock Paper Scissors totally riveting, the various unfolding of events and revelations making this book even more absorbing. The storyline was absolutely fantastic and the suspense was kept at a maximum level throughout. In this tense spiders web of betrayal, secrets, lies and fronts, Alice Feeney eventually wraps everything up in a thrilling, fulfilling and mind-blowing ending.
Although this drama thriller was ridden with eeriness and had a palpable claustrophobic feel, it was still an absolute pleasure to read. Even if the plot had been less stimulating I would have devoured these pages with equal gusto and enthusiasm. I’ll certainly be looking out for more from Alice Feeney!
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from HQ via NetGalley and this review is my unbiased opinion.

Have you heard about prosopagnosia, in other words, “face-blindness”? It’s a neurological condition and it means that the affected person cannot recognise any faces. Sounds scary, right?
Title: Rock Paper Scissors
Author: Alice Feeney
Rating: ✂️ ✂️ ✂️ ✂️ ✂️ ✂️/5
One of the main characters in „Rock Paper Scissors” suffers from face blindness. Luckily, he’s married to a very understanding and loyal woman - Amelia.
They’re about to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary in a remote location in Scottish Highlands.
The way the author described the place was just magical. You could feel the chilling atmosphere of the place, sending shivers down your spine.
The characters were beautifully crafted. They felt like the real people, you didn’t know who to trust. They were both so cunning and twisted.
The story kept me at the edge of the sofa from the beginning until the end. “Rock paper scissors” is the best thriller I’ve read so far this year. If you liked “His & Hers” you’ll love this book, it’s on another level.
Not a dull moment. It’s a rollercoaster through and through.
Honestly, I’m amazed by the author’s writing skills. She created a masterpiece.
I can’t recommend it enough!
Thank you @netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Alice Feeney has once again produced a compelling, chilling story that has you hooked from the moment you turn the first page. When Adam and Amelia win a competition for a romantic getaway to a remote chapel in Scotland, it seems like the perfect opportunity for them to spend some one on one time together, something that could potentially save their struggling marriage.
When they arrive in Scotland there has been a snow storm, making their accommodation for the weekend look less than welcoming. When they are inside the converted chapel, they hear many strange noises, and when things start happening to both Amelia and Adam it becomes apparent that there is far more than meets the eye when it comes to this couple and their strained marriage.
As the story progresses, we also get to read letters that have been shared between the couple throughout the years, and this further cements the fact that all is far from perfect between them, and the problems are more deep routed than we initially thought.
From the moment I started reading this book I found myself unable to drag myself away from this utterly captivating story. The characters are well fleshed out and have authentic, relatable personalities that really allows the reader to connect with them and their story as the plot begins to unfold. The storyline is unique and full of tension, with the suspense levels increasing with every passing chapter you find yourself unable to tear yourself away from this fast paced thriller. This is certainly a book that I would recommend to others!.

Okay, I officially enjoy Alice Feeneys books and want to read more. This wasn't as creepy as His or Hers (Feeneys last book) but less graphic, so if you want an eerie mystery with a twist without too much triggering content I would recommend Rock Paper Scissors.
For me it missed that element of "gives you the chills" that I want in this genre. And I found the husband SO unlikeable that it made his complexity harder to buy into.
Also, I know I'm harsh when I rate any books from this genre, so take my 3 stars with a pinch of salt. I really do recommend this for an easy read that will keep you guessing!

Rock, Paper, Scissors was a fast-paced and twisty thriller. The multiple character POVs work well with this style of book, with each character's thoughts being brought to the surface in their own words. The marriage dynamic between Adam and Amelia Wright is tense and well crafted. The remote Scottish highland setting was also an important character as it allowed for an isolated narrative. Despite this, I did find parts of the story to be quite obvious. Nonetheless, this is great if you enjoy domestic thrillers.
Thank you to Net Galley for an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I read this book so quickly, I couldn’t put it down. I needed to know what was going on. It kept me guessing the whole time. And I was quite unnerved.
Amelia won a competition to a getaway in a remote area in Scotland but when they get there things aren’t as they expected. The house appears to have not been lived in for years and strange things go on when they are there. To top things off there is a storm leaving them snowed in and then their dog goes missing…….
This was an intriguing read, filled with suspense. Alice Feeney writes so well we get a real sense of the characters, which I didn’t really warm to until the ending made everything fall into place. The vivid descriptions helped me visualise the landscape and the eerie house. I recommend this to anyone who loves a thriller with lots of mystery and great plot twists.

Gosh where do I start. I love a good thriller but this story was next level. I would say it was a psychological thriller that at first made me think I wouldn’t be able to read it late at night. However once I began to trust the characters and fell in love with Amelia I fell deep into the story and couldn’t put it down. Amelia shocked me with how strong she was and was totally real Amelia all the way. That was until Robin was introduced. A twist like no other and I would argue with anyone who states they knew it was coming. I had to read the chapter for a second time for it to sink in.
Another page turning Novel by Alice that should definitely hit the big screen.
