Good Night Stories for Revels Girls are stories told in 100 1 page biographies about black women, transwomen, or non-binary who made accomplishments worldwide. Quotes and illustrations that matched the biographies were also good.
I received a free copy or ARC via Netgalley; I am voluntarily reviewing.
I saw this book and was like this is going to be good. I was impressed and awestruck by the illustrations and the stories and would add it to my collection. I gave it five stars because I love this series and would love to read more .
I'm a fan of pretty much all the Rebel Girls books, and this one was no exception. I like that they're splitting up the stories more specifically, so that girls can navigate the books more easily. As with the other books, the art is lovely and the stories/biographies are a good, brief length to give an overview of each person for readers of all age and comprehension levels. I hope Rebel Girls continues to expand their offerings and I can't wait to see what they do next.
This book was phenomenal. short biographies of 100 black women across the diaspora. Each one listed as well as ones that were not mentioned are the epitome of black girl magic. This amazing book is perfect for every black girl, young and not so young. Phenomenal representation for all black women. I am going to make sure every little black girl connected to me has their own copy.

Perfect for reading and using with the children in my class and throughout KS2. My daughter will also be reading it on my kindle too as she is 10 so the perfect age for this. Would recommend.
Do you ever remember eating something so spicy that your eyes are red and tearing up but you can't stop because you are addicted to the taste? This book felt something like that. It broke my heart to realize that the 100 women who are featured, they are the survivors. There are many more who didn't get to fulfil their dreams, who were killed or died without the opportunity to do or be whatever they wanted. Though the reality saddened me, I kept reading because it gave me hope I was desperately craving. That there is indeed light at the end of this tunnel. Because I am addicted to hope and positive outcomes. Does my first line makes sense now? Maybe that wasn't a proper comparison. It sounded nice in my head when I said it though. Never mind. It was excruciating for me to comprehend, to accept that all these women, bright, talented, gorgeous and full of life, had to go through racism, maltreatments and injustice due to their dark-toned skin color or the way they chose to wear their hair. What an utterly ridiculous way to create diversion among people! I didn't know about most of the inspiring personalities included who didn't only change their lives but changed ours as well. So, I am grateful to everybody related to this book from the core of my heart: the writers, the illustrators, the women who shared their stories, the editor as well as anybody who inspired you to fearless. You guys are unbelievable. It is a top-notch book, a great literary masterpiece. Definitely recommended!
Thank you Netgalley, the Publisher and the Authors for granting my wish to read this wonderful book. I really appreciate it.
A wonderfully inspiring addition to the Rebel Girls series. It's fantastic to have this collection of black women for young girls to look up to and guide them.
Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 Real-Life Tales of Black Girl Magic is a must for any child’s bookshelf, or even adults! I learned a lot about these amazing women, some who I knew of previously and others who I had not. This is a great way to introduce kids to non-fiction in a fun way while also inspiring them to dream big!
This is an incredible collection of inspiring and empowering biographies of amazing black women. There is representation from numerous fields including, medicine, athletes, musicians, science as well as diverse backgrounds, including the LGBTQ+ community Each biography is about 1-2 pages and includes gorgeous illustrations.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this advanced copy. I’ll be sure to check out more from this series.
We absolutely love the rebel girls books and this was no different. An amazing collection of stories of empowering black women. Will definitely purchase to add to our collection.
This is a lovely book... inspirational and empowering... about amazing women who have left a mark on the world, and through this book on our hearts.
The art work in the book is the perfect balance of recognisable and stylized.
I thought this was a great selection of women that they wrote about. There was all kinds of women through out history and different skills. There were women from athletes to singers to politics to scientist and Youtubers and writers.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 Real-Life Tales of Black Girl Magic is a children's picture book that contains biographies of 100 black girls and women who have achieved amazing things in their respective spheres of influence. The book contains full-color illustrations as well as 1-2 page informational text excerpts. I would guess that the grade-level that this book targets would be between 5th-6th grade.
Overall, this book has a very important message. It's so important to tell young girls about all of the possibilities open to them and to encourage them to pursue their dreams. Often, when books include biographies of "heroes" or "famous people," they're almost always all men. The Rebel Girls series of books is incredible, because they show young girls everywhere they can follow their dreams and be successful. If you're intrigued by the description, I highly recommend that you check out this book when it comes out in March!
This was really fab, such a wide range of women to be celebrated for the things they’ve managed to do. I love the illustrations and I think that the information was written well, if not a little repetitive. This is a book that should be read by everyone, especially to young black children to see all these role models that we aren't taught about yet in schools. 4.5 stars.
Such a wonderful book!
Contains stories of strong, Black women from all over the world, including all professions, LGBTQ+ icons, from all time periods (mostly from today, but also some very important historical figures).
Would recommend to everyone who wants to learn more and get inspired by Black women, regardless of age. I learned a lot!
I love when we can give the spotlight to women, especially black women that changed the world and paved the way for generations to come.
Thanks to NetGalley for the chance to read this book.
My favourite thing about this book is the lesson it gives you and how this heroes fought for what they wanted and inspired people to do the same, especially little girls who thought some things were not for them. I like the inspiration and how the Rebel Girls didn't conform to what society think they can or cant do and fulfilled their dreams.
My daughter and I love reading everything Rebel Girls! Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 Real-Life Tales of Black Girl Magic was another great read for our family. We love the format of biography and illustration with it. This collection has a wide range of women and illustrators from different countries. We loved the inclusion of gender/binary differences as well. My child is in third grade and this was a great read for her with some new words sprinkled throughout.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
An edition of Rebel Girls which is dedicated to black girls and women. This book is a reminder that girls can achieve anything they want no matter of colour of their skin.
Stories include actresses, singers, sportswomen, scientists, doctors, journalists, activists, etc.
My favourite story is about author Octavia E. Butler. Despite of her learning and social skills and disabilities, Octavia managed to get a degree in history and studied creative writing at UCLA. Her first writing stories were not perfect due to incorrect spelling and she was rejected multiple times by multiple publishers. Yet, she did not give up. She continued to chase up her own dreams by improving her writing skills while she worked at several places. Her hard work came into fruition and her first book was published in 1976.
Her story is a reminder to myself to never give up on my dreams. To continue working hard, to keep improving even after a rejection because any rejection is a key to positive changes in the right direction.
A common theme for Rebel Girls books are illustrations with vivid colour scheme which I absolutely adored.
With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Rebel Girls for an electronic ARC in return for an honest review.
I'd been waiting or this book and I was not disappointed. I listen to the podcast and I have loved the other Rebel Girl books. It is so nice to see his representation of Black Girl Magic. Bravo!
