This was my first read by Taylor Adams and I want more! What a page turner that had you on the edge (no pun intended).
What would you do if you were told your sister jumped 200ft to her own death? Would you believe it? Lena doesn’t buy it for a second, so she takes matters into her own hands and drives back to the bridge to find out what really happened to her twin sister. Questioning the highway patrolman who was on duty that night raises Lena’s suspensions when his story doesn’t seem to add up.
Don’t miss out on this excellent thriller, I regret going this long without picking up one of his books. Thank you Net Galley for the copy of this book.
After the success of No Exit, I had high expectations for this novel. While it was an excellent, fast past tale, the story line felt a bit implausible, and that made the story fall a bit flat for me. Still a great read, but not as high caliber as I hoped.
Thank you @netgalley @joffebooks and @taylor.adams.author for this ARC copy.
I am a little slow to get to the review, but here we are. This book is out now for your enjoyment. I read Taylor Adams last book in one sitting last year, so when I got the chance to grab this one I didn’t hesitate. This book initially gave me the same heart racing thrill as No Exit and I loved that. I loved the premise of the book, the back and forth between Cambrys Story and Lenas story. I did struggle a bit at the end as it felt the thrill dissipated a bit quick. There were numerous twists and turns, but ultimately I knew what was happening with the cop, just not so much the truck driver. I definitely recommend this read, it’s quick, action packed, and a thrill that if you liked No Exit you will enjoy!
Hairpin Bridge by Taylor Adams is a fast-paced, adrenaline-fuelled read, the equivalent of a summer blockbuster film but, for me, something was lost in the nonstop action, and I found myself struggling to fully engage with the plot.
Lena's twin sister Cambry has jumped to her death from Hairpin Bridge, presumably a suicide. But Lena is not satisfied that Cambry would ever take such drastic action, and decides that she will get to the truth of what really transpired, travelling to the bridge in Montana with questions for investigating police officer Ray Reycevic. From their very first meeting, the tension is palpable, and it is clear that there is much more to this case than meets the eye.
While I did enjoy this novel, I suspect that my expectations after reading the brilliant No Exit were perhaps too great, and I was left somewhat disappointed. That being said, I look forward to reading more from this very promising author in the future. 3.5 stars
Many thanks to NetGalley and Joffe Books for an ARC.
I never expect that an author's next book is carbon copy of their previous book - <i>just because</i> No Exit <i>was a decent novel, I didn't not go in expecting this to be exactly the same.</i> That said, I was hoping for action, intense turns, and maybe some gore thrown in. What I really read was a giant mess of a novel that made no sense and was written kind of poorly.
I think the biggest problem for me, is this is truly a novella in nature. It is a short story that is extremely drawn out and a bit boring. I found maybe one twist that surprised me, that I wasn't anticipating, but other than that it was a little predicable and not very thriller-y.
The structure of the novel is problematic in that there are multiple narrators, but it is very hard to distinguish who the narrator is. You are constantly jostled between the four characters of the novel and then the author throws in blog posts. I had to re-read passages to understand who was talking and what the point was.
Overall, I just found the premise interesting and the idea fascinating, but just executed poorly. It was hard for me to finish but I am glad that I found a nice wrap up and some resolution.
<b>Thank you to Netgalley for a free digital copy for an honest review.</b>
Hairpin Bridge was exactly the rollercoaster ride through hell that I was expecting based off of what I read in Taylor Adams’ previous book No Exit. If there is one thing Adams’ is really good at, it’s his gift for writing some really strong girl characters that make you appreciate their no 💩’s given attitude and their tolerance for violence. The first half of the book was full of entertaining dialogue, different POV’s, plot twists and action, but the second half slightly dragged but this seems to be Adam’s style so its to be expected. IYKYN. I’m glad I read it though and will probably read more of his work in the future just because of his addictive style of writing and the creepy visuals that seem to be his specialty. I’ve been to Montana many times but now I’ll always think of this book when I visit 🙈 I will say some scenes are extremely graphic and violent against women and may be triggering for some so please proceed with caution if you are ultra sensitive to descriptions of that nature❤️
This was a pretty alright book. It didn't necessarily wow me and there were a few elements I didn't love, but it was a solid story!
Thoughts:
From my experiences reading No Exit, and now Hairpin Bridge, you definitely have to go into a Taylor Adams book with a willingness to suspend your disbelief because things will always end up getting absolutely wild by the end. Not everything that happens felt entirely realistic and more than a little convenient at times, but the feeling of those moments was similar to watching a scary movie. In that sense, I find it a lot of fun and am very willing to forgive a not-so-realistic scene or situation.
For the story itself, I think it was very okay. There were some elements I liked and some I didn't. For example, I like the inclusion of Lena's blog posts (minus the number of times she said "dear readers" which was a little annoying) and everything happening in the present with Lena, but I was less interested in Cambry's chapters. Mostly because they... weren't her chapters? It was Lena writing what she thought happened to Cambry for a book she was going to write on her death. It kind of made reading those chapters feel like a waste of time because I was never sure if any of it was actually true.
Wrap Up:
This was a fairly decent suspense/thriller. Nothing really stood out to me as very unique, but it was a generally fun ride.
This suspenseful thriller by Taylor Adams is out now!
Two twin sisters: Leah and Cambry, not as close as you would expect but bonded nonetheless and Cambry is dead. Leah doesn't know much about her sister's life but she does know one thing: there is no way that Cambry jumped off Hairpin Bridge and killed herself, there is more to the story. So she ventures out to Montana to speak with the cop who filed the report. Leah knows that she can avenge her sisters death.
This was a fun story and the whole book takes place in just a couple day period so if you love reading action this book is for you! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Thank you so much to Taylor Adams, Joffe Books, and NetGalley for ARC in exchange for an honest review!

At first I really liked this book but then it just got repetitive and boring. I did enjoy the twists at the end though.
Intense and fast paced. If you love a hair raising, heart in your throat, edge of your seat ride, this is it.
Lena is out for revenge. Her sister, Cambry, died three months ago. Lena doesn’t believe the police report, and she is convinced that the police officer had something to do with her sister’s death. Officer Raccevic agrees to meet her at the last place Cambry was alive, Hairpin Bridge, and a 300-page standoff ensues. Car chases. Gun battles. Pythons. (Yep. A python. It made me scream more than the guns.) It’s an action packed, heart stopping, cat and mouse game. It’s gory, gruesome, and violent.
Everything you’ve come to expect of an action thriller can be found in this book… especially the complete implausibility of almost everything that happens. This book makes perfect use of each and every thriller trope.
Hairpin Bridge is a fast read. If you love a good adrenaline boost, you’ll likely love this one. For me, it was too over the top and too violent. But I know I’ll be in the minority.
Thank you Taylor Adams, Joffe Books, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an advanced copy of this book.
I won't say much as I DNF this around 25%. It was just too slow for me. I triiiiieeeed. I had to restart this 4 separate times because I was so bored. And sadly I do see some similar reviews. I don't think I was unwise not to pick this back up. Sad, because I absolutely loved No Exit.
After reading No Exit in a day last year, I was so excited to see another thriller from Taylor Adams. This was fast paced and full of mystery despite the whole story taking place on a bridge over the course of several hours. It is hard to give any details because I wouldn't want to spoil the fun, but honestly this is definitely a book I will keep recommending. I am already looking forward to another book by Taylor Adams.
I enjoyed No Exit by Taylor Adams so I was very intrigued whether this book would be as good - I thought it was even better!
It was a very fast-paced book that flowed well. I couldn't put it down and read it over 2 days.
I really enjoyed the ending and didn't see it coming!
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for the chance to read this book. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I wanted to love this creepy book. Everyone I know was raving about this author… it was so meh.
The story was so ridiculous that I really couldn’t stay too invested in it. There was so much going on that it really left me wanting to not it finish it.
Following up such a propulsive thriller like No Exit was always going to be hard, but wow does Adams knock it out of the park with this one and then some!
Where No Exit felt a bit contained, it still featured a cast of characters and a whodunnit mystery that had you on the edge of your seat. That contained feeling is elevated 10 fold here where Adams brings us on a tense and wild standoff over 300 pages on a bridge. Literally, the entire book takes place right on this bridge, between just 2 characters, which could spell disaster for a less talented author. Where dialogue between characters and internally could easily feel stilted or forced, Adams excels in bringing us emotions and action, moments of badassery with fumbles and mistakes. The whole thing is an ode to an expert standoff.
Told through 3 different perspective mediums but all from Lena’s POV, we see the death of Lena’s twin, Cambryn slowly unravel. Through a podcast transcript, Lena’s book on Cambryn’s death, and Lena’s own narration. While the whodunnit is revealed early on, Adams does a masterful job of keeping some twists and turns sprinkled throughout the book to keep you engaged and on the edge of your seat until the very end. You think you know who the killer is - but do you really know everything? Does anyone, Lena included, really know Cambryn? Knowing a bit piece of the mystery up front may be a turn off for some, but it just compelled me to keep going to see how Adams was going to build a story around the big reveal.
The shifts in medium also helped the story move forward while keeping its foot on the tension and as the twists and turns come up, they feel fresh and well thought out. You start to think you know how its going to go and boom- there goes a shift to Lena’s book to Cambryn which gives us another layer to not just Cambryn, but Lena herself. There is the shock factor of these additional twists, sure, but they’re just plain smart and keep you wanting more.
Lastly, I loved that Cambryn remains a central figure but also unknowable. All we know about her is told to us and filtered through Lena’s eyes, yet Lena herself is honest about not really knowing Cambryn at all. For a set of twins, I found this interesting because so often we’re told twins are natural best friends, always balancing and somehow complimenting the other - a true package deal. Here, we see Lena’s anguish at losing her twin but also knowing that its also a loss in another sense because they ran out of time to come together.
Adams makes a lot of refreshing choices that brings some fresh air to an often crowded genre. These choices are by no means small and may jar some readers, but I encourage you to stick with it after some of the initial reveals and see how Adams brings this one to a close.
Rating: 4.5/5, rounding up to 5.
This book is not the genre I normally read but I saw so much buzz for it that I decided to read it. I found the back & forth between Cambry & Lena (and Lena’s blog posts) a bit confusing and I thought the story line was mostly played out but I was only half finished the story. Then things got really interesting but I can’t share too much because it would spoil the story. I liked that Lena fought to clear her sister’s name & prove she didn’t die by suicide. I also enjoyed Lena’s carefully planned project even though it went so very wrong. Finally I thought the ending was great!
The writing was good and all in all it was a good thriller/suspense novel. While I may not choose another novel from this author I am glad I read it Thanks to the publisher & NetGalley for the opportunity to read Hairpin Bridge.
Although I really liked No Exit from Taylor Adams, I did not like this book as much. After the first few chapters and figuring out or learning what happened to Cambry, I became bored with the story. It seemed to be long and drawn out with too much back and forth as to what part the cop played in Cambry's demise. I'm sure my opinion is an unpopular one. The book came off as more of a movie script than a book which is probably why I feel this way. With that being said, it will probably make a great movie and I would definitely watch it. Although I didn't fall in love the book, I did like it. I will certainly keep reading books from Taylor Adams.
Thank you to Joffe Books, Taylor Adams and NetGalley for my advanced reader's copy.
I wish to thank NetGalley and Joffe Books for the opportunity to read Hairpin Bridge in return for an honest review.
A fast-paced thriller, well-written while suspenseful, I did find it a little lacking in twists and turns. Nevertheless a good read. Recommended.
Thanks to Netgalley and Joffee Books for an advance review copy of “Hairpin Bridge.” I regularly crave very dark, suspenseful thrillers, and this one definitely hit the spot.
Lena Nguyen is determined to piece together the last moments of her twin sister’s life. Her twin, Cambry, drove off the semifamous Hairpin Bridge in Montana three months ago, and Lena refuses to accept that her twin committed suicide. Lena heads to Montana from her Washington home to confront the cop who found Cambry, convinced he holds the key to Cambry’s demise.
This is one of the most suspenseful thrillers I’ve read in a long time, and I really admire Adams’ ability to carry that level of interest throughout the entire book. This is a bit more gory than the thrillers I typically read but I didn’t mind it. I read the majority of this book on a flight and it was so engrossing.
This book is for you if
✨ you don’t mind a good amount of violence and gore
✨ you’re OK with some technical gun talk
✨ you’re looking for a fast, suspenseful read that will totally suck you in
While this wasn't No Exit, it was still an edge of my seat thriller. Adams has no quit when it comes to intensity and descriptive tense scenes.
