Another heart-pounding thriller from Taylor Adams. Adams really knows how to build tension and put the reader into each scene.

Lena's twin sister committed suicide by jumping off Hairpin Bridge. According to the police. Lena's determined to confront the police officer that found her body and determine what really happened.

This is probably unfair of me but I often found myself comparing aspects of this with No Exit (one of my favourites in this genre) and was left underwhelmed every time. While the writing was just as compelling in terms of the action and suspense, a lot of scenes started to become repetitive. There are only so many ways you can write a car chase after all.

A big aspect of this book that didn't work for me was the format and timeline through which we were told this story. I did enjoy the first couple cliffhangers but I soon found that constantly switching to different timelines and perspectives difficult to keep track of. By the time we returned to the cliffhanger the suspense has passed and I was left having to remind myself what was happening here. I found it really did a disservice to the otherwise fantastic writing.

This book hit the ground running and immediately captured me. I so enjoyed getting to the bottom of Cambry’s disappearance, and Lena was a very relatable character. It was reminiscent of No Exit, I’m certain other readers will devour Hairpin Bridge as well!

This was my first DNF of the year. I really tried with it but I couldn't finish. This book had such an interesting concept. Lena is determined to prove that her estranged twin Cambry did not kill herself, but was murdered instead. She thinks she knows who did it and goes to Hairpin Bridge to find answers and get the killer to confess. Sounds interesting right ?? ehhh....boring though.

This was my first book by Taylor Adams. I was really excited to get an ARC copy because I have heard so many great things. However, this book was so slow, so repetitive and so wordy. There was way to much pointless explanation and details that I was bored and was not excited to pick it up and read it like most thrillers. I usually do not ever DNF books but I have a lot of books on my TBR to read and I don't want to waste my time with a book that is not holding my interest.

Side note- I will be giving Taylor Adams another try, since I've heard NO EXIT is amazing.

Thank you to Netgalley and Joffe Books for an advanced reading copy in exchange for an honest review.

My first Taylor Adams book! I keep seeing this authors name everywhere and couldn’t wait to pick this one up!

A fast paced thriller, although the beginning is a little slow. I will point out that some parts felt unrealistic and repetitive. Without giving away any details, I think the biggest problem for me was that I didn’t feel any connection to Lena or Cambry. I wanted to know the truth about Cambry’s death and how the story played out for Lena, but I didn’t care much for their characters. If that makes sense? Also, the action in the end went on a bit too long in my opinion.

Ok moving on to the positives! I love stories where you can’t tell who is lying, who is telling the truth, or who is keeping secrets. There were a couple twists and turns that kept me interested- which made it a pretty quick read for me. And who doesn’t love a strong and smart female lead?! Lena is full of surprises.

Although this plot was not for me, the writing was great! Hoping to read more by this author soon!

If you’re like books with lots of action, car chases, and guns this is a great book for you!

Thank you @netgalley and @joffebooks for this copy!

Hairpin Bridge was a highly anticipated thriller for this summer. I was not a fan of No Exit, however, I wanted to give Taylor Adams another shot. His books are considered "full throttle thrillers" with a lot of action. This is the story of twin sisters, one is dead of apparent suicide, the other wants answers for her sister's death.
Lena goes on a road trip to the location of her sister's suicide. Lena meets up with the officer who found her sister's body, Officer Raycevuc at Hairpin Bridge, where Cambry (her twin) jumped to her death (allegedly).
I found this less than full throttle, in fact, I found it boring. It was not for me, but I believe huge fans of Adams will enjoy it.
2 stars

Unfortunately, this one fell flat for me. I found the story to be a bit confusing with all the back and forth between her and her sister, then her talking in her blog. I also just didn’t find it that interesting as I kinda just felt like it was a constant argue back and forth which didn’t catch my attention.

I don’t want to say too much more as I don’t like to write such negative reviews. I just like to be honest.

I am still going to read No Exit though and cat wait to see what I think.

I really enjoyed this book! I was a huge fan of Taylor Adams last book, “No Exit”, so I was anxiously awaiting this book! While it didn’t keep my attention as well as the previous book, I definitely stayed up late to finish this one. A little gory for my taste, but definitely recommend!

I could not have disliked this book more. The storyline was just not even grazing reality, the plot had holes and was borderline uninteresting, a friend recommended this after she saw it was available as an arc and it sounded interesting at the time but it was clearly written in a rush and needed a lot more attention to detail.

I give this one a 3.5 Stars. Thank you William Morrow for sending me a copy of Hairpin Bridge for a review. So for this one I will have to say I enjoyed No Exit a bit more but I still really enjoyed this one and all the mystery and suspense behind the story. I like that it was told between two POV's. One being Lena's story and one being Cambry's and how everything went down. Lena was determined to find out who killed her sister or did she really commit suicide by jumping off the bridge? This one was definitely fast paced book which led me to read it in a day. Some I felt could have been left out with a bit of repetitiveness but still overall good suspenseful book!

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me an ARC of Hairpin Bridge!

I really wanted to love this one. The story was interesting, full of suspense, and deeply unsettling. The first 50 pages were really intriguing. I was hooked immediately, but the shifting perspectives intermixed between the blog posts, real time, and past reenactments sometimes made it hard for me to stay engaged. On top of that, I found the entire story pretty depressing. I felt like it dragged on a little longer than it needed to in the end and I didn’t feel the sense of closure I desperately hoped for at its conclusion. Interesting? Absolutely. But something I would want to read all the time? No.

In short, it’s a gripping thriller and Adams is a fantastic writer. I’m really glad I read it, I just don’t think this story was totally the one for me. Worth your time if you’re a fan of Adams or if you are in the mood for a dark read.

✨Book Review✨
Hairpin Bridge by Taylor Adams
⭐️
.
One star. This is probably the lowest I've ever rated a book.
.
Taylor Adams is clearly a police praising, conservative racist. He makes that very clear through the undertones of this book. Adams is a white male and his main characters of this book are Vietnamese twins, and a racist, fatphobic cop. Someone please explain to me how that is ok and how this book is being praised by the public. These facts have strongly influenced my rating. Please see a few quotes below to understand my claims.
.
In terms of the plot, this book was just 200 pages of a shoot out. If that floats your boat, plus you love the police and want to hear multiple times about how their job is "the hardest in the world," have fun reading.
.
I was not a fan of No Exit, but I thought I would give this book a try. Big mistake. I will never read another Taylor Adams book again.
.
Direct quotes from this dumpster fire of a book. Might I remind you that this book was published on June 15, 2021.
.
Ray:"Cops. Me. The think blue line...I'm one of the good guys."
.
Lena: "My uncle was a state trooper in Oregon...he was the kindest, most decent person I've ever met. And I remember when he told me how often drivers flipped him off on the turnpike. They saw him as a storm trooper, not a human being. A lot of the public is like that. Pissed off. Distrustful. I really do believe law enforcement is the hardest job in the world."
.
Ray: "His wife, Liza, refused to speak to him, which was honestly how he liked it. He hated looking at her. Every time he saw her, he swore he saw five new pounds of blubber jiggling on her upper arms or under her chin. So, best not to look at her."
.
Lena: "he's a disgrace to every brave man and woman with a badge."
.
Ray: "I was having an affair...my wife got fat you know."
.
Ray: "Lena was a fighter, a scrappy little Asian like her sister..."
.
Ray: "I'd already decided I would leave my dairy cow of a wife..."
.

Packed with action and suspense, this thriller grabbed me from the beginning. Characters are great but they certainly lie! The many viewpoints inserted throughout often left me more confused than enlightened. Credibility was another concern in rating it 3 stars.

Thanks to NetGalley and Joffe Books for the ARC to read and review.

DNF
This is another review mainly for me --

I watched an interview with the author and was intrigued. But yet again we have a book where the story constantly switches between POVs, and where there are time skips. This is a format that really annoys me and I've had more than my fill of it.

What happened to telling a story from start to end and a linear timeline. Yes, changing POVs can work, but it has to be done very well.

I also found the story got darker and darker as I went. This just was not the book for me. I shall say, there was one excellent line (remembering I skimmed most of the book so I may have missed others)
"You don't really die when your heart stops. You die when you're forgotten. My sister isn't a person anymore -- she's an idea. I carry her. So every trace I have left of her, every word and smell and sound, needs to be preserved."

Yes, the book had a clever premise. Yes, it was twisted and dramatic. It just wasn't for me.

Thank you Netgalley and publisher for the opportunity read this arc and provide honest feedback.

Wow, Taylor Adams is great at writing suspenseful thrillers. This is the second book I’ve read by this author and I loved it. I was drawn in from the very beginning and had trouble putting it down to go to bed. There were only a few parts that were repetitive but not enough to remove from the overall story. I would definitely recommend this for a quick thriller with a lot of action and stressful situations.

Lena and Cambry are twins. Lena is determined to find out how her sister died and to give her family peace of mind in knowing she did not commit suicide. It’s a fast paced ride that did get confusing to follow at times because of the way the author jumped back and forth between the present day and Lena’s theory of what happened to her sister. I had to keep reminding myself that the other timeline wasn’t actually what happened to Cambry but was Lena’s theory of what happened. I gave No Exit 5 stars and was hoping for a repeat of that non-stop story. Was this fast paced, yes. Was it a 5 star read for me, nope. 4 stars solely for the lack of boredom while reading.

This is the second book I have read by Taylor Adams. I enjoyed it just as much as No Exit! There were so many twists and turns and I was kept guessing until the end! I loved the portrayal of the relationship between the two sisters and how Lena would stop at nothing to uncover the truth. I definitely recommend this one if you are a fan of thrillers!

This book was super good and kept me hooked! A great mystery/thriller yet again, from Taylor Adams. It was definitely gory at times, but as long as you’re warned, it’s alright.

New favorite author! I love the horror, twists, and turns so much. Loved No Exit too! Will read anything upcoming from this author too!

This is the second book I've read by Adams. I wasn't a fan of No Exit honestly. I thought it was a page turner but I felt like there were too many coincidences and the violence was over the top for me. I wanted to give the author a second try and I'm really glad I did because I had a totally different reaction to Hairpin Bridge.

Although Cambry and Lena are twins, they couldn't be more opposite. When Lena receives a strange text from her twin in the middle of the night, she disregards it thinking it wasn't meant for her. A short time later, Lena is told her twin has committed suicide by jumping off of Hairpin Bridge. Lena refuses to believe her sister would kill herself and decides to seek answers, starting with Corporal Raymond Raycevic, the officer who found her sister's body and also the name that was part of Cambry's final text message. While Officer Raycevic seems sympathetic at first, his demeanor quickly changes and Lena realizes he is keeping the truth from her. What Lena doesn't know though is just how deadly her search for the truth is about to become.

Hairpin Bridge is a page turner from start to finish. It also has some genuinely creepy moments. At times, I could literally feel goosebumps breaking out on my arms as the situation Lena finds herself in starts to unfold. Adams does a great job creating Raycevic's character. He's menacing but at first it's hard to understand why or just how much so.

I also liked the format of this book. It was interesting to have the story told in real time by Lena as the events are unfolding around her. Mixed in with that is Lena writing Cambry's story as she is trying to piece together what happened to her. The reader is also getting glimpses at the shared history of the twins and detailed stories that explain the discord in their relationship. While this format worked most of the time, there were a few incidences where the text seemed choppy and I had to think about who was saying what.

The only other thing I had a small issue with would be the length of the gunfight scene. It went on a bit too long for me (but that's a personal preference).

All in all, I ended up liking this book. It's action packed, filled with twists and turns, and something I would recommend to others!

Hairpin Bridge literally terrified me in the best way possible. A true suspenseful thriller that should probably be read during the day.
