Thank you #JoffeBooks and #NetGalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest review.Taylor Adams hass done it again. If you are looking for a good thriller read this!
I loved Taylor Adams "No Exit" so I was really excited when I got an ARC of "Hairpin Bridge" from NetGalley". I didn't enjoy it quite as much, but I would still recommend it. I liked the POV between the two sisters and the way the story ended. Looking forward to reading her next one.
What did I just try to read?? I, unfortunately, had to DNF this one. I loved No Exit so I was very excited to read this one. This story was very repetitive and after about half, I had to give up.
*Thank you Joffe Books for the copy in exchange for an honest review. Review not posted to Amazon/Goodreads because less than 4 stars or DNF.*
Reading Between the Wines book review #48/115 for 2023:

Book 🎧: Hairpin Bridge
Author: Taylor Adams
Genre: Mystery & Thrillers

Sipping thoughts: I read so many polar reviews for this book so I did not know what to expect. But I really enjoyed it. I liked the way the story was written for the reader to hear a podcast like story while flashbacking in the present and past. I did not know what was going to unfold and there was a WHOLE other story than I expected. The final part of the story was a little unbelievable and I did not feel was needed but I understood why it was included. While I do not think this story can even touch the greatness of No Exit, I still think it is a good read that should be enjoyed by thrill seekers.
Cheers and thank you to @NetGalley and @JoffeBooks for an advanced copy of @HairpinBridge.

Like Taylor Adams previous book, No Exit, this is super fast-paced and tense. I have mixed feelings about this one, as I did with that one. I love the pace and the relentless tension, but by the end things got too gory and I was left feeling a bit sick by everything that happened. But if you love tense thrillers and don't mind things getting dark, I would recommend checking this one out.
Special thanks to Netgalley and the author for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I was really excited for this book! I had heard great things, it was one of the anticipated thrillers of the year and I was beyond excited to read it.
It started off really great and I was really invested in the story of how Lena’s sister supposedly jumped off Hairpin Bridge and killed herself. But Lena doesn’t think it was suicide. Great pretense, right? The storyline alternate between Lena’s POV and her sister’s, but the way it read it was confusing to tell them apart! There was a lot of action in the book but after a while it was just repetitive.
Sadly, I just ended up disappointed:(
Thank you to Joffe Books and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. Hairpin Bridge started out strong, but I felt like it didn’t maintain that, switching to long, boring driving tirades. As I continued to read it, I got bored and almost didn’t finish reading it. I decided to switch to audiobook which was fine, but I don’t think I’ll remember this - other than the great descriptions of the remote Montana setting.
I was an okay read, I actually enjoyed this more than No Exit. The beginning started off strong and pretty much went a bit downhill from there.
I am however, looking forward to Taylor Adams next read!

The phrase “if you don’t have anything nice to say…” Appropriate for this book. I thought No Exit was such a fun thriller and was so excited for Adam’s next book. Not for me.
Most of the book takes place on Hairpin Bridge, a remote bridge sixty miles out of town in Missoula, Minnesota. It is where Lena Nguyen’s sister Cambry jumped 200ft to her death three months ago, according to police. Cambry however, is not buying the suicide story and is convinced something else went down. She has set out with her dead sister’s car and a cassette recorder to meet the officer that was on the scene back then and find out exactly what happened.
This book was very suspenseful. Had me on the edge of my seat. Thank you to Netgalley and Joffe books for the advanced copy of this book in return for my honest review.
It's been three months since Lena's twin jumped to her death off Hairpin Bridge, but she refuses to believe Cambry committed suicide. The facts just don't seem to add up, so with voice recorder in hand, Lena meets up with the police officer that found her body. With the looming threat of a forest fire, meeting on the "suicide bridge" that's rumored to be haunted, Lena risks her own life to learn the truth.
This book had multiple narrators and had me confused sometimes on which POV I was reading. The action towards the end grabbed my attention, but it seemed to take a long time to get there. By the end, I still had questions that weren't really tied up, but it did keep me entertained and wanting to know how the story would wrap up so I rounded up from 3.5 to 4 stars.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A great read by this author. I definitely recommend checking this one out!

I picked this one up months ago but never got invested so after trying again I was pretty sucked in. Also let it be known I really enjoyed the author's previous work, No Exit. From about 10%-40% of this one I was turning pages fast. However after that the story stalled for me.
Lena goes to a remote Montana bridge to avenge her twin sister's death. Guided by a dream, a two line text message and a gut feeling she goes on a mission that is so completely unbelievable it's insane.
There is so much gun fighting I really didn't know what was going on. Maybe if I knew more about guns and shooting it'd be easier to picture, but I actually don't know if it even matters. Adams really does have a way of sucking you in but this one just didn't deliver in the end for me. It also had a plot line that I don't like reading (harming/kidnapping a child).
content warnings: suicide, gun violence, harming a child
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Even though the plotline was different, this one really reminds me of No Exit. It has the same fast-paced feel and also it left me wanting something more similar to how No Exit did.
I thought the fatphobia of Ray wanting to leave his wife because she got fat was such a tired plotline that is overused.
I get how the multiple POV is important in this story but it jumps back and forth often and without much notice. This might translate better to a physical copy but could be confusing on audio. It was also confusing how it was Lena's version of Cambry's tale so it was accurate but not? There was also too much of this guy died, no he didn't, actually yes he did.
It was a decent read but nothing that wow'd me.
CW: Fatphobia
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this one!
I had previously read Taylor Adams' No Exit, and I wasn't really a fan. But I wanted to give this book a shot. Sad to say, this didn't do it for me either. My main issues being the repetitive nature of the story and the way that all the villains in Adams' books are so "mustache twirly" obvious. The book was full of suspense, which I did find effective. But between the lack of subtly in characters and in descriptions of gore, I think I'll be skipping books from this author in the future. Still thank you net galley for my copy of this book.
In all fairness, I was one of those minority island castaways that did not love Adams's first book, No Exit, but I hate to write off an author after one book, so I gave it a shot. After reading this one, I feel pretty confident that Adams and I are just not a match made in heaven, and it's time to move on without belaboring the point. That being said, take my review with a grain of salt, as you may love this one.
Lena refuses to believe her best friend jumped off a bridge willingly. She knows her best, and would have known if her friend was struggling? Right? You think you know your loved ones, but what if they were wrapped up into something more sinister. A race against a impeding darkness.
After reading No Exit of course I had very standards for this one, however it just didn’t do it for me. It did start off really great but it just became so lackluster throughout. The telling of the dual povs were a little confusing most of the time and the plot just didn’t live up to my expectations and became rather repetitive.
Enjoyable thriller, predictable in some places but still plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing

while this started off with a bang it quickly became super messy and went into a million different directions. i had trouble following along while also simultaneously being bored. this book is super ridiculous and unbelievable and not in a fun way. i just can't continue because i'm having such a boring, confusing time so i'm not finishing this book
thank you to joffe books, taylor adams, and netgalley for an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review
