I really enjoyed Taylor Dams previous book “No Exit” and was really looking forward to reading this one. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with this one. While it was a tense story, I thought the pacing was off. The dual timeline and alternating perspectives did not work for me in this book. The tension would build on one of the timelines but then be interrupted by switching to the other timeline. The portions where Lena is writing for her blog were slow and wordy. I found myself barely skimming those portions. Overall, too many details that bogged the book down and a really confusing format.
I liked the story, but the middle seemed a little long. Lena travels to Montana to uncover the truth about her twin sister's alleged suicide. The book goes back and forth between Lena's present-day and her sister's last day alive. Even though I felt that the middle was a little slow, I had to know the outcome and powered through. 3.5!!
Hairpin Bridge by Taylor Adams is a psychological thriller.
First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Joffe Books (in particular Nina Kicul for sending me a widget), and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
My Synopsis: (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions)
24 year old Lena Nguyen is now in Montana, trying to figure out why her identical twin sister would jump off a bridge to her death. Her suicide note means nothing. Lena doesn't believe it for a minute. She is sure that Cambry was murdered.
Cambry had been living in her car, and camping out in Montana for the last 9 months. She "allegedly" took her life on Hairpin Bridge. The bridge is supposedly haunted, a hot-spot for paranormal activity, and a lot of suicides. Lena is hoping the ghost of her sister will help her see this through.
Lena is blogging about her experience, and plans to record any conversations and all progress she makes.
Corporal Raymond Raycevic is the officer who found Cambry, but his name is also in the last text message that Cambry sent Lena. Something is off, and Lena is prepared to die to find the truth.
My Opinions:
WOW, what an intense read. Non-stop action from start to finish. Twists that I didn't see coming. A plot that refused to stand still. We are never sure where the story is going next, what will happen when we turn the page. Twists galore! Excitement!
The story is told from different time-lines, and both Lena's and Ray's perspectives. Interspersed with this, is the perspective of Cambry as imagined by Lena, for the book she is writing. Needless to say, this is an unreliable narrator, but it feels like Cambry telling her side of the story, so... As well, there is the blog post that Lena wrote before she headed to Montana, and her memories of their childhood. With all this information, we get a complete, if somewhat biased and unreliable narrative.
If you want vivid descriptions of blood and gore, violence, and intense scenes, this one is for you. If you want to write a thriller, talk to this author! This one grabbed me by the throat and pulled me in.
This is the first book I have read by this author, but it won't be the last!
I have been so excited for this book. Ever since No Exit, I have been a Taylor Adams fan. I just found out yesterday he has two other books available so of course they're now on my TBR.
Ok, on the Hairpin Bridge ....
Three months ago, Lena and her parents were informed her twin sister, Cambry, committed suicide by jumping off a bridge. Yes, Cambry has been the carefree sister living out of her car but Lena knows her sister did not commit suicide. She decides to hot in her sister's car and retrace the steps of that dreadful day.
Taylor has a way of writing a book without many characters or locations but still keeps you on the edge of your seat. I read this book within a 24 hour period. That said, between 50 and 70 percent I started seeing squirrels but once it his the last third, it picked back up again making up for the boring part.
Thank you Netgalley and William Morrow publishing for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This thriller feels more like a movie than a book at times, with its dramatic tension and constant "what on earth can happen next" feel. Lena comes across like an action hero in moments, and I often wondered what else Adams could throw at us. (Oh, he could come up with more insanity, don't worry.) The result is a book that's dark, action-packed, and sometimes completely horrifying. It's incredibly dramatic, but wow, does it keep you turning the pages. I know I finished this one in less than 24 hours.
The story follows Lena, whose twin sister is found dead after an apparent suicide. She starts putting two and two and feels everything is not as it seems. She decides to interview the policeman who found her sister’s body at the same place where her sister died known as the ‘Hairpin Bridge’ which is quite infamous as a suicide bridge.
Taylor Adams’ earlier book ‘No Exit’ was like a cat and mouse story with a major chunk being revealed mid plot. On the other hand, this book has an amazing suspense at the end which no matter what you won’t be able to guess. The author smartly drop clues around the whole plot so, maybe, if you’re paying close attention, you might be able to figure it out. I did not see that end coming, and it blew me away! I loved it! The only question remains was it worth the wait.
Unlike his earlier book, this one seemed a tad bit too long. Repetitiveness of events, such as Lena asking for forgiveness from her sister for not being there enough, inspector Ray repeating how he’s not the man Lena thinks he is for the 100000th time and steadfastly refusing to give even a little hint bored me a lot. The cat and mouse game in this book was too long and too tenuous. I almost wanted to give up after reading the back and forth of these two characters dialogues for the umpteenth time. At one point, I had even stopped caring for what happened with her sister. But I was hoping for a good suspense and was glad atleast I wasn’t disappointed in that section. But I’m still skeptical whether the remaining 300 pages were worth that wait.
I also had an issue with the writing style. And believe me, I loved ‘No Exit’, so I was almost sure I would love this one as much as well. But, I was some times quite confused by who was speaking/writing. The narrative lacked cohesiveness and I wish it would’ve been a little articulate.
Read this book for that end. It’s amazing, also, some parts at the end left me teary eyed, especially the part which talks about the bond of the twins.
Thank you to Taylor Adams, NetGalley and publisher Joffe Books for this ARC.
I just finished Hairpin Bridge. For the first 40-45% of this thriller, I did not want to stop reading. I felt like I was part of the story sitting on Lena’s shoulder. Lena’s parents had received terrible news that her twin Cambry had committed suicide by jumping off of Hairpin Bridge in Montana. The parents wrote Cambry were deeply religious and wrote Cambry off because suicide was wrong. Lena is not so convinced after reading her sister’s journal. Having read her sister’s journal and driving her sister’s car, she drives to Montana to discover the truth. She meets Corporal Ray Raycevic to try to discover what really happened. He takes her to the bridge. As the reader, I felt very present in the plot and scared for Lena as she deals with the police officer. Then it seemed to be repetitive and a bit unbelievable for me. I found myself having to reread as I found it hard to remember whose point of view I was reading with the blog, present day……..I struggled to finish. The first part of the book was heading for a five star review from me. Unfortunately, for the rest of the book a two star rating. I am settling on three stars. My thanks to William Morrowand NetGalley for an ARC of this book. My opinions are my own in this review.
I really enjoyed Taylor Adams other book ‘No Exit’ so when I was given the chance to read an ARC of his next book, I jumped at the chance.
3 months ago, Lena Nguyen’s twin sister Cambry committed suicide at Hairpin Bridge in Montana. But Lena doesn’t believe it. Her sister isn’t the type of person to take her own life and she’s going to prove it. Starting with police officer Raymond Raycevic, who found her sisters body and is personally named in her last text message to Lena.
I thought ‘Hairpin Bridge’ was a great book. Full of lots of twists and turns, a thrill a minute read. A 3.5 stars from me.
** I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. ARC provided by NetGalley and the publisher**
Omg, omg, omg, what an intense and terrifying roller-coaster it was. You feel like on the edge every single page! 🙈
I really enjoyed No Exit and was completely sure that I need to read this new release too! I can say that it's definitely as intense read as previous book by Taylor Adams with extreme amount of twists, goosebumps and TW.
I really enjoyed the excerpts from Lena's blog and switch between two timelines (Lena's investigation and Cambry's story).
Overall, it was amazing kinda creepy read, but I personally prefer No Exit, that's why 4.5 stars.
I'd like to thank NetGalley and Joffe books for providing me with the e-arc in exchange for honest review.
Not going to lie. This took me a bit to get into. It was at times thrilling and at times, well.. not so thrilling. But overall I enjoyed it. Took me a bit longer to get through than normal, but I’m glad to have gotten to read it. Might just be their writing style that put me off. I can’t exactly put my finger on what I didn’t quite like.. 3.5 stars:)
Thank you NetGalley, the publisher as well as the author, Taylor Adams! I was so excited for this book because I really enjoyed No Exit but this book did not hold up the hype for me. I love the fact that it included twins because I know they are different as they shared the same space developing in the womb but the book was so boring and it got boring really quick. The writing style was confusing at times with Lena's perspective and then the blog post. The book was just spinning for me so I rushed to read it but it was a 2.5 or 3 star book for me.
Thanks again everyone!
This book was thrilling! There was so much action happening in this story. Just like No Exit, this story puts the main character in an essentially inescapable situation. I think that is what I enjoy about these stories. You can’t really say, “That’s a dumb decision...just *insert way to solve the situation.*”
I can definitely see some people having issues with this book. There were a few instances where I was confused as to what was happening but I think that added to the experience.
I think I will continue to come back for Taylor Adams’ books every time. They capture my attention and keep me on the edge of my seat until the very end.
3.5 stars
If you're looking for a fast-paced summer thriller, add Hairpin Bridge to your TBR!
Author Taylor Adams has brought forth the excitement again, after the fantastic No Exit.
Thank you to Netgalley and William Morrow for my eARC for review.
Lena Nguyen needs to know what really happened to her twin sister Cambry, who died by apparent suicide months earlier. She arranges to meet with the police officer from that night, who not only discovered Cambry's body but pulled her over for speeding shortly before. Followed by Cambry's 16 phone calls to 911, not answered as Hairpin Bridge is out of a cell service area.
Lena doesn't believe the documented sequence of events. And she is ready to make Corporal Raymond Raycevik talk.
This book can nearly be read in real time, with chapters of interaction between Lena and Ray intercut with Cambry's story and Lena's blog documentation.
While I didn't find Hairpin Turn had quite the same appeal as No Exit, it's still a solid and unique thriller worth checking out. Recommended!
Released on June 15.
Wooow, did this one take you on a ride!
Lena is investigating her sister's death, ruled a suicide by jumping off the eponymous Hairpin Bridge, so named for its odd shape with a twist in the middle. She isn't convinced that her sister killed herself, and is determined to uncover the truth.
And with that, the reader is off on a wild ride. Told via Lena's blog post, drafts of a book (with her sister Cambry's POV), and the POV of all the other characters involved, this story had so many twists and turns. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, a new wrinkle would suddenly present itself. Finding out what really happened the night of Cambry's death is going to take everything Lena has. And in the end, the actual truth (no spoilers here) was definitely not what I saw coming!
Overall, this was a good thriller. I haven't read any of the author's other books, so I don't have any to compare it to. However, the story moved at a good pace and, even when you thought (and did) know part of the truth, something else would happen and change things. The pacing was good, and i was definitely hooked from beginning until the very end. 4 stars!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book!
A dark, raw, visceral read with stunning twists and bracing action. I think I clenched my jaw through most of it.
Lena is on a mission. Her sister, Cambry, is dead and Lena is not satisfied with the answers. There must be more to the story. Her sister’s ghost, telling her to “Go. Go now.”
Holy shitballs. This book absolutely gutted me. The heartbreak of death, the desperation of the chase, the biting whine of tension. Great stuff!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my free copy. These opinions are my own.
It was slow at first but then it was enthralling . Lots of action . What I really didn't enjoy though were the extremely repetitive action scenes . It is gruesome bloody and takes place in like a day. I’m not a huge fan of his writing then his slow going story method . Lena has been grieving for her estranged twin sister, Cambry since she committed suicide by jumping off a bridge. They were estranged, and the introverted Lena had not seen her twin for a long time before her tragic death and didn't know her well. There are multiple deaths in this book
3.5 ⭐️
After reading No Exit in 2020, I knew I needed to read everything by Taylor Adams. Although this was just as fast paced as No Exit, it didn’t quite do it for me. It was very gory and I didn’t love Cambrys part of the story.
Lena is convinced her twin Cambry didn’t commit suicide by jumping off Hairpin Bridge so she goes to Montana to find the officer that Cambry mentions in her last text to Lena. I really liked the closed setting and it got my heart pumping but I think it drug out just a little too long.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
If you are one of the many, many readers who was swept up in the thrill of No Exit (like me) then your are likely highly anticipating Hairpin Bridge which comes out next week. Swipe for a short description if you don’t already know what it’s about!
First of all, let me say, the locked door (without a door) vibe is still here. There’s a whole lot of anxiety inducing situational developments throughout the book and even if you aren’t in love with the book, your heart rate with probs pick up a touch.
There are, however, some things I didn’t love. First, there are three different formats of the narrative: the actual action of what is happening, “Cambry’s Story,” and Lena’s blog. I don’t really think these different formats worked for me because every single character was so damn unreliable. Who is telling the truth? Who is just making shit up? HARD TO TELL. I was pretty irritated at the amount of non-truth that comes from Lena.
I also felt like there were a few revelations at the end that I would have liked to spend more time with, but instead things are revealed and we’re just done.
Overall I think this is a 3-star read for me. Part of me wants to read it again knowing what I know, but I think I would still be annoyed with the same elements. I do encourage thriller lovers to read for themselves and see what they think!

What a wild ride! Hairpin Bridge is a story that will capture your attention since the first pages and it won’t let you go until the end. I loved the different points of view, all from Lena, but from different timelines, it was a really interesting and unique narrative.
Overall Hairpin Bride is fast paced and original story that I really enjoyed.
Thank you William Morrow and NetGalley for this copy!
Three months again, Cambry Nguyen drove out to a remote bridge in Montana, and jumped. However, her twin sister, Lena, does not believe that Cambry would commit suicide, so she sets out to investigate. As she speaks with Corporal Raymond Raycevic, who saw Cambry prior to her death, Lena realizes things aren’t quite adding up.
While this novel had a similar vibe to the author’s previous book, NO EXIT, this one did not quite hit the mark for me. I liked the dual timeline structure of the novel, alternating between the events leading up to Cambry’s death, and Lena’s investigation in present day of her sister’s supposed suicide. However, while I was fully engaged at the beginning of the book, the storyline felt a little repetitive as it went on, and did not have as many twists as I expected. I still enjoyed reading the novel, and I think it will all come down to personal preference, so definitely give it a chance!
Thank you so much to William Morrow Books and NetGalley for providing me with an advance copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
