This book I think took grief and showed how each person struggles to deal with it. This book took grief and guilt and made it into a story where you constantly want to know what the character did in that moment, and what would you do in that moment.
Overall I liked how this book was written but I might be in the minority for it. I enjoyed how in some places it seemed a little all over the place.

Hairpin Bridge - a place where ghosts live. A place where people commit suicide? Or do they?

Lena has lost her twin to a suicide at Hairpin Bridge.
She makes an appointment with the cop to know exactly what happened in his own words from what he knows of her sisters death.

This book the first 60% was pretty full of action. I was on the edge of my seat as it switched from Cambry’s point of view to her twin sister Lena point of view.

Then it started to drag a bit. There was a lot of action and the premise was awesome. But there was just something a little off about it for me. I felt like it got a bit confusing a couple times and there were some discrepancies. I don’t want to go into them because they would be spoilers for anyone reading.

I think I was so built up after No Exit I was expecting this one to be better but it wasn’t.
It’s still a really good read and you’ll be on the edge of your seat.

Hairpin Bridge is an outstanding, fast-paced thriller with plenty of twists throughout. When Lena is told that her estranged twin sister killed herself by jumping off a remote bride, she doesn't believe it. So Lena goes to the bridge with a tape recorder and meets with the officer who found her sister's body. What happens when her pursuit for the truth only brings up more questions? Filled with tons of twists and surprises throughout, readers will be on the edge of their seats. Highly recommended!

This book was a crazy ride! It is a face-paced, high action story about finding the truth behind a twin sisters suicide. I really enjoyed the car chases and gun fights that put you on your toes throughout the book. That is unfortunately the only thing I enjoyed about the book. It did get a bit confusing at times with the abrupt transitions and the many different perspectives. I wasn't a huge fan of plot and some of the scenes felt over the top and far fetched. I also wasn't able to invest into the characters. There were some really good twists especially with the ending!

Trigger warnings include physical violence, alleged suicide, mental illness, murder and child harm.

Although this was an exciting, action-packed thriller, I didn't enjoy it as much as No Exit. It was super outlandish and also, the author's incredibly detailed descriptions of guns, ammo, shooting stances, etc., seemed unnecessary to the plot and became a bit redundant and irksome.

Taylor Adams has done it again! What an amazing read that kept me guessing about what really happened until the very end.

Lena's twin sister, Cambry, committed suicide a few months ago at least according to police, but Lena doesn't believe that's what really happened. In order to find out what happened on the night her sister died, Lena meets up with the police officer that found Cambry's body at Hairpin Bridge. While talking to Corporal Raymond Raycevic, Lena starts to believe his story is off and something doesn't feel right. All throughout their meeting, Lena records Raycevic's account of what happened that night, but as his story goes on, Lena has more and more questions and will do anything to find out the truth, even if it means risking her own life. What exactly happened to Cambry?

I really wanted to like this book because I was a fan of No Exit by Taylor Adams. This book fell for me. The switching between Lena and Cambry’s perspective made it feel like the entire story was on high adrenaline mode. It was too plot driven in the sense that too much happened for there to be any depth to the story. Some twists were good but the majority felt unrealistic.

This book about Lena, seeking the truth about her twin sister’s death, starts out at 60 mph and never lets up. It’s a thrill ride of adrenaline, through and through.

Lena's twin sister Cambry jumps to her death from Hairpin Bridge and although it is ruled a suicide, Lena is convinced her sister was murdered. Lena goes to Montana to visit the scene and meet the officer who discovered her sister's body, and try to retrace her sister's last steps and discover what really happened that day.

First let me say I am a huge fan of this author. I have loved their previous books and was excited to get a chance to read and review this one. I was not disappointed. I devoured it in one sitting, it was so good. If you are familiar with the tv show Big Sky, this was very similar to that, so if you loved Big Sky then you will love this book. I don't want to give away any spoilers and ruin anything for you, so let me just say that some things are fairly obvious from the beginning, but the details get slowly leaked throughout the story. The story is told in alternating parts between present with Lena and the past with Cambry. There is a lot of "on the edge of your seat suspense", and a nice surprise ending. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves a good thriller.

After Lena’s sister Cambry commits suicide, Lena decides to question the cop that found her sister’s body as she is suspicious because Cambry’s suicide text mentioned his name. Now Lena is fighting for her life while trying to unravel the details of Cambry’s death.
I was hoping for another book like No Exit. One that I would read in a single sitting and couldn’t put down. However, Hairpin Bridge wasn’t that book. While it was exciting and held my attention, I felt like it kept going and I found myself thinking “will this ever end?!”
I feel like the book would’ve been more effective if Cambry’s point of view was written by Cambry and not Lena. I understand why it wasn’t, but I think it would have made the book more enjoyable. I also found the twists to be fairly predictable. A solid 3 star read.

At the end of 2020, I read No Exit and loved it. Consequently, Hairpin Bridge became one of my most anticipated books of 2021. But I was a little hesitant going in after reading some mixed reviews.

Hairpin Bridge is a dark and engrossing thrill ride in the form of a twisty and intense mystery. Essentially, it is an action movie in book form. There is heart-pounding action from the first page to last.

The storyline and immediate dive into action drew me in and held me captive right to the very end. I was totally immersed in the story and on the edge of my seat. In this aspect, Hairpin Bridge was similar to No Exit. There were some twists that I saw coming and a few I did not, but this did not preclude my enjoyment.

The narrative alternates between Lena's present, Lena's blog, and Lena's book?/her sister's tale. This format worked somewhat but no very well. I think the issue is really that it was unclear which perspective each was and when they changed. I think with some simply formatting and headings this could be clarified and improve the story.

I will note that there is not much character building in Hairpin Bridge. While many know that I am a stickler for character development in nearly all books, I think those like Hairpin Bridge are the exception. Although possible, I think well-developed characters can be difficult to accomplish in an action-packed book like this. I think that this book could have benefitted with introducing the two main characters more and providing their background. Since this was lacking, I cannot say I ever really connected with Lena or the other characters.

I have read criticism about this book having "way too many pages describing car chases and shootouts with way, way too much detail and not much happening in between." Let me reiterate that fast-paced, heart-pounding action is Taylor Adams's style. I am here for it. But I acknowledge that it is not for everyone. If you are expecting a domestic or psychological thriller, you may be disappointed.

Overall, I enjoyed Hairpin Bridge and would recommend it. I do think if you are someone who criticizes fiction for not being realistic enough, you may not enjoy this as much as I did. But then again, why are you reading fiction if you want realism?

Thank you Netgalley, Joffe, and William Morrow books for both an e-ARC and a physical ARC (Goodreads giveaway win).

Lena decides to investigate her twin sister's death. It was ruled a suicide after being found underneath Hairpin Bridge. She meets with the officer in charge of the investigation. What follows is a tale of crazy circumstances. Is Lena denying reality or is there something more sinister going on? I adored this book!!! There are so many twists and turns and the author doesn't allow you to take anything or anyone at face value!

Awesome thriller! This book pulled me in immediately and kept me so eager to see what would happen next that sometimes I had to force myself to not jump ahead! There were so many twists and turns and I was completely surprised by the ending. Once I started reading I was up half the night so I could finish it.
This is the first book I have ever read by this author but it will not be the last!
4.5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️ ⭐️ 1/2

Wow is all I have for this one. I’ve seen such mixed reviews, but I thoroughly enjoyed it! I haven’t read No Exit yet, so I was not able to compare the two.
.
Lena’s twin sister, Cambry, unexpectedly commits suicide while on her cross-country journey. However, Cambry sends a cryptic text to Lena right before. In the process of healing, Lena sets out to find out the truth behind what really happened on Hairpin Bridge.
.
This book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. The multiple storylines were often confusing, but somehow it worked for me. The book did drag on in places, but overall was a great suspense novel. I still am really wondering what the truth is and if Officer Raycevich’s final words can be trusted.
.
⚠️: suicide, animal abuse, child abuse, graphic details

Unfortunately, this book did not live up to its hype. I was a big No Exit fan and read it all in one day (not something I do very often) so I was expecting this to be the same kind of page-turning thriller. It wasn’t.

This one loves much slower and drones on in a way that feels like it’s struggling to stay on topic. I fear this one has fallen victim to my expectations. I will still keep recommending No Exit though as it’s just such a great read!

Hairpin Bridge, it was also nicknamed the Suicide Bridge, as there were almost 4 or more suicides at that place, with the latest one being of Cambridge Nguyen, with a last message, a suicide note to the world!

“Please Forgive Me. I couldn’t live with it. Hopefully you can, Officer Raycevic”

Lena Nguyen, the dead girl’s twin, was troubled to know that a state trooper, a complete stranger was referred to in Cambry’s final enigmatic text to her sister.

Why? Who was he? Why was she sorry? Lena knew her sister maybe not perfectly, but she knew, her sister was not someone to commit suicide, and this is what led her to this nail biting journey to interview this complete stranger, a highway patrolman, who allegedly found her sister’s body.
And thus leading us into a journey of finding answers to the unknown questions, with twists and turns, with complete surprises at places unknown, with all the gory details, with some fire packed action, of thrill coursing through our very veins.
This book was an amazing page turner, where we get to know the truth in different versions throughout the story, Cambry’s version of the story in Lena’s thoughts, Lena’s blog excerpts, lena’s own thoughts, Raycevic’s thoughts, leaving us in a complete dilemma, whom to believe truly, who is lying, who is deceiving, and who is just saying the truth. What did really happen on that bridge there? A mystery which will only unfold, when you read!

(The book was good, had a good amount of suspense, but it was a little guessable, I felt like maybe this is what will happen at some instances, and I felt something was missing, but overall it was a good read, with ample amount of surprises in store)

Overall, I did enjoy reading Hairpin Bridge and felt that it was a tense, effective mystery where nothing is ever quite what it appears to be. As such, I would recommend it to anyone looking for a tense mystery who doesn’t mind some graphic body horror.

With that said, I did have some issues with it but these were largely down to my own personal preferences. There’s a fair amount of body horror including graphic descriptions of blood and injury. I also found the plot similarities between this and No Exit to be a little jarring. (Both centre a vulnerable 20-something female MC who winds up in an isolated location fighting to survive against career criminals.) Finally, I would have preferred a slightly different set up as I found the mystery surrounding Cambry’s death to be incredibly compelling but I wasn’t interested in the gunfight on the bridge which fills a fair chunk of the book.

Despite these issues, I did like a lot of things about Hairpin Bridge. First of all, Lena is an incredible main character. She’s well-rounded with lots of depth. I would be happy to read a dozen books about her. I also enjoyed the way that Adams challenges the readers’ and characters’ assumptions non-stop. I felt that’s a big part of what made this such a compelling and effective mystery. And finally, I really enjoyed the writing style. There are three distinctive styles here; Lena’s perspective, her blog and the story she’s writing about Cambry. It made for an interesting read and I liked that the different styles were all formatted differently which made it easy to follow.

3.5 stars. Overall I enjoyed this book. The concept was really interesting and I liked the back and forth/cliff hangers. I had anticipated some of the twists, but was surprised by a couple of them. It was hard to put down and I found myself needing to know what happened next. The only things I didn’t enjoy were it’s repetitive nature, the holes in the logic, and the fact that I didn’t form a really strong connective with Lena or any of the characters. A good and quick read.
