I really wanted to like this book because I was a fan of No Exit by Taylor Adams. This book fell for me. The switching between Lena and Cambry’s perspective made it feel like the entire story was on high adrenaline mode. It was too plot driven in the sense that too much happened for there to be any depth to the story. Some twists were good but the majority felt unrealistic.

This book about Lena, seeking the truth about her twin sister’s death, starts out at 60 mph and never lets up. It’s a thrill ride of adrenaline, through and through.

Fast paced, twists and turns, edge of your seat thriller. Thanks to NetGalley and Joffee Books for the opportunity to read this Taylor Adams novel Check it out, you won't be sorry.

Lena's twin sister Cambry jumps to her death from Hairpin Bridge and although it is ruled a suicide, Lena is convinced her sister was murdered. Lena goes to Montana to visit the scene and meet the officer who discovered her sister's body, and try to retrace her sister's last steps and discover what really happened that day.
First let me say I am a huge fan of this author. I have loved their previous books and was excited to get a chance to read and review this one. I was not disappointed. I devoured it in one sitting, it was so good. If you are familiar with the tv show Big Sky, this was very similar to that, so if you loved Big Sky then you will love this book. I don't want to give away any spoilers and ruin anything for you, so let me just say that some things are fairly obvious from the beginning, but the details get slowly leaked throughout the story. The story is told in alternating parts between present with Lena and the past with Cambry. There is a lot of "on the edge of your seat suspense", and a nice surprise ending. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves a good thriller.

After Lena’s sister Cambry commits suicide, Lena decides to question the cop that found her sister’s body as she is suspicious because Cambry’s suicide text mentioned his name. Now Lena is fighting for her life while trying to unravel the details of Cambry’s death.
I was hoping for another book like No Exit. One that I would read in a single sitting and couldn’t put down. However, Hairpin Bridge wasn’t that book. While it was exciting and held my attention, I felt like it kept going and I found myself thinking “will this ever end?!”
I feel like the book would’ve been more effective if Cambry’s point of view was written by Cambry and not Lena. I understand why it wasn’t, but I think it would have made the book more enjoyable. I also found the twists to be fairly predictable. A solid 3 star read.

At the end of 2020, I read No Exit and loved it. Consequently, Hairpin Bridge became one of my most anticipated books of 2021. But I was a little hesitant going in after reading some mixed reviews.
Hairpin Bridge is a dark and engrossing thrill ride in the form of a twisty and intense mystery. Essentially, it is an action movie in book form. There is heart-pounding action from the first page to last.
The storyline and immediate dive into action drew me in and held me captive right to the very end. I was totally immersed in the story and on the edge of my seat. In this aspect, Hairpin Bridge was similar to No Exit. There were some twists that I saw coming and a few I did not, but this did not preclude my enjoyment.
The narrative alternates between Lena's present, Lena's blog, and Lena's book?/her sister's tale. This format worked somewhat but no very well. I think the issue is really that it was unclear which perspective each was and when they changed. I think with some simply formatting and headings this could be clarified and improve the story.
I will note that there is not much character building in Hairpin Bridge. While many know that I am a stickler for character development in nearly all books, I think those like Hairpin Bridge are the exception. Although possible, I think well-developed characters can be difficult to accomplish in an action-packed book like this. I think that this book could have benefitted with introducing the two main characters more and providing their background. Since this was lacking, I cannot say I ever really connected with Lena or the other characters.
I have read criticism about this book having "way too many pages describing car chases and shootouts with way, way too much detail and not much happening in between." Let me reiterate that fast-paced, heart-pounding action is Taylor Adams's style. I am here for it. But I acknowledge that it is not for everyone. If you are expecting a domestic or psychological thriller, you may be disappointed.
Overall, I enjoyed Hairpin Bridge and would recommend it. I do think if you are someone who criticizes fiction for not being realistic enough, you may not enjoy this as much as I did. But then again, why are you reading fiction if you want realism?
Thank you Netgalley, Joffe, and William Morrow books for both an e-ARC and a physical ARC (Goodreads giveaway win).

Lena decides to investigate her twin sister's death. It was ruled a suicide after being found underneath Hairpin Bridge. She meets with the officer in charge of the investigation. What follows is a tale of crazy circumstances. Is Lena denying reality or is there something more sinister going on? I adored this book!!! There are so many twists and turns and the author doesn't allow you to take anything or anyone at face value!

Awesome thriller! This book pulled me in immediately and kept me so eager to see what would happen next that sometimes I had to force myself to not jump ahead! There were so many twists and turns and I was completely surprised by the ending. Once I started reading I was up half the night so I could finish it.
This is the first book I have ever read by this author but it will not be the last!
4.5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️ ⭐️ 1/2

I really enjoyed this novel. It has many twists and turns and keeps you guessing until the end. Its a quick easy read. Highly recommend.

Wow is all I have for this one. I’ve seen such mixed reviews, but I thoroughly enjoyed it! I haven’t read No Exit yet, so I was not able to compare the two.

Lena’s twin sister, Cambry, unexpectedly commits suicide while on her cross-country journey. However, Cambry sends a cryptic text to Lena right before. In the process of healing, Lena sets out to find out the truth behind what really happened on Hairpin Bridge.
.
This book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. The multiple storylines were often confusing, but somehow it worked for me. The book did drag on in places, but overall was a great suspense novel. I still am really wondering what the truth is and if Officer Raycevich’s final words can be trusted.
.
⚠️: suicide, animal abuse, child abuse, graphic details

Unfortunately, this book did not live up to its hype. I was a big No Exit fan and read it all in one day (not something I do very often) so I was expecting this to be the same kind of page-turning thriller. It wasn’t.
This one loves much slower and drones on in a way that feels like it’s struggling to stay on topic. I fear this one has fallen victim to my expectations. I will still keep recommending No Exit though as it’s just such a great read!

Hairpin Bridge, it was also nicknamed the Suicide Bridge, as there were almost 4 or more suicides at that place, with the latest one being of Cambridge Nguyen, with a last message, a suicide note to the world!
“Please Forgive Me. I couldn’t live with it. Hopefully you can, Officer Raycevic”
Lena Nguyen, the dead girl’s twin, was troubled to know that a state trooper, a complete stranger was referred to in Cambry’s final enigmatic text to her sister.
Why? Who was he? Why was she sorry? Lena knew her sister maybe not perfectly, but she knew, her sister was not someone to commit suicide, and this is what led her to this nail biting journey to interview this complete stranger, a highway patrolman, who allegedly found her sister’s body.
And thus leading us into a journey of finding answers to the unknown questions, with twists and turns, with complete surprises at places unknown, with all the gory details, with some fire packed action, of thrill coursing through our very veins.
This book was an amazing page turner, where we get to know the truth in different versions throughout the story, Cambry’s version of the story in Lena’s thoughts, Lena’s blog excerpts, lena’s own thoughts, Raycevic’s thoughts, leaving us in a complete dilemma, whom to believe truly, who is lying, who is deceiving, and who is just saying the truth. What did really happen on that bridge there? A mystery which will only unfold, when you read!
Coming to my rating : out of 5 stars

Character development : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Originality : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Overall rating : 4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars.
(The book was good, had a good amount of suspense, but it was a little guessable, I felt like maybe this is what will happen at some instances, and I felt something was missing, but overall it was a good read, with ample amount of surprises in store)

Overall, I did enjoy reading Hairpin Bridge and felt that it was a tense, effective mystery where nothing is ever quite what it appears to be. As such, I would recommend it to anyone looking for a tense mystery who doesn’t mind some graphic body horror.
With that said, I did have some issues with it but these were largely down to my own personal preferences. There’s a fair amount of body horror including graphic descriptions of blood and injury. I also found the plot similarities between this and No Exit to be a little jarring. (Both centre a vulnerable 20-something female MC who winds up in an isolated location fighting to survive against career criminals.) Finally, I would have preferred a slightly different set up as I found the mystery surrounding Cambry’s death to be incredibly compelling but I wasn’t interested in the gunfight on the bridge which fills a fair chunk of the book.
Despite these issues, I did like a lot of things about Hairpin Bridge. First of all, Lena is an incredible main character. She’s well-rounded with lots of depth. I would be happy to read a dozen books about her. I also enjoyed the way that Adams challenges the readers’ and characters’ assumptions non-stop. I felt that’s a big part of what made this such a compelling and effective mystery. And finally, I really enjoyed the writing style. There are three distinctive styles here; Lena’s perspective, her blog and the story she’s writing about Cambry. It made for an interesting read and I liked that the different styles were all formatted differently which made it easy to follow.

As a thriller lover - this book missed the mark for me.
The beginning was promising with a chilling tone but it petered out as the dialogue kept dragging on.
This had a true or not true concept that I found repetitive without any interesting content that I was hooked onto. The huge mystery was still a bit of a mystery at the end and I never found any of the characters worth rooting for.
The little twists and mischief were interesting but it took a long time to get there and there were many times I wanted to stop reading. I know you are supposed to dislike the 'villain' but he was even more so unlikable, he must've called his wife fat 10x in the book.
Overall, this is a skippable read.

Thank you NetGalley and Joffe Books for the ARC copy.
I have seen this book all over the social media and couldn't wait to read it.
Lena and Cambry, twins look exactly same. Cambry has been on a year long trip with her boyfriend. While Lena is someone who would follow norms, Cambry takes decisions at the moment. The story starts with Cambry who has died by suicide on Hairpin Bridge. Her body was discovered by Corporal Raymond Raycevic. Lena is still not able to believe that her sister killed herself and after three months, approaches Corporal Raymond Raycevic, to know what happened at the fateful night. What follows are the shocking details as they unfold. There is a plot twist after every chapter.
This was my first book by Taylor Adams and also my first time reading a thriller like this one so it felt novel to read such a drama unfolding.

I will be up front and preface this review that I had high expectations of Taylor Adams' latest novel Hairpin Bridge due to my love of his previous thriller 'No Exit' that set the bar for action packed twists and turns with a satisfying ending.
Unfortunately Hairpin Bridge was not as effective for me, with a great setup that ultimately led to predictable twists and turns with a very so so ending.
In this case, the plot follows Lena who is the twin sister of Cambry and they have been estranged for some time when she is notified that Cambry has committed suicide off a remote bridge sixty miles outside of Missoula, Montana. Of course Lena thinks she knows her sister best and doesn't trust the official police version of events and what follows is a confrontation between herself and Corporal Raymond Raycevic who found her twin sister's body that night. The entire plot takes place over a couple of hours on the very bridge that they call 'Hairpin Bridge' and is filled with dark characters and action packed violence until the bitter end.
For me this does not compare to 'No Exit' and perhaps this could have gone a different way however it was still fast paced easy thriller to get through even if I wasn't on the edge of my seat for this one!

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐
Thank you to NetGalley and Joffe Books for the e-arc!
SUMMARY:
Lena's twin sister Cambry drove to an isolated bridge and jumped to her death, but Lena doesn't believe that's the whole truth and she's determined to prove it. Even though the sisters aren't close as twins should be, Lena takes Cambry's car to the last place her sister was alive to meet the state trooper who found her to find out what really happened. Danger surrounds the bridge, including Lena once she's on it.
MY THOUGHTS:
🌁 This book was ALL plot, which is ideal in my rating scale. I loved how it was exciting from the beginning and really hooked you right away.
🌁 This book was really gruesome and had lots of gory details, which doesn't bother me at all. Bring on the shock factor.
🌁 I did like the short time frame of the book- aside from flashbacks to Cambry, the entire story happens over the course of a few hours.
🌁 I am noticing a twin trend, and I feel like I've read so many twin books recently. It was slightly refreshing that these twins were never close and polar opposites, which broke the typical plot line.
🌁 I thought the ending was a bit of a mashed up craziness. There was a lot going on, so many parts that were a bit confusing, and a bit huh??
Side note, I just only now (writing this review) found out that Taylor Adams is a man. Being a Taylor myself, I guess I just assumed it was a girl. 😅

In short: Twin sisters, 1 cop and a bridge in the middle of nowhere Montana. Lena refuses to accept that her twin sister, Cambry, committed suicide on a remote bridge 3 months ago. She’s now in MT, on the same bridge, confronting the cop who supposedly found her sister.
My thoughts: I will pick up almost any book that is set in Montana and was not disappointed at all with this one. It was a quick, action packed, whirlwind read. This book kept me invested in what was going on, had me totally confused and constantly trying to figure out what happened or was happening.
What I liked:
That this was not a straightforward story at all, even though most of it took place over a matter of hours on the same bridge. The story was mostly told through Lena and Cambry’s points of view, as well as through blog posts Lena wrote prior to confronting the cop.
That this book keeps you guessing throughout.
Strong female characters

This one was HARD to put down friends! Each chapter was more addicting then the last!
Three months ago, Lena’s twin sister Cambry drove to a remote bridge sixty miles outside of Missoula, Montana and jumped to her death. At least that’s the official police version but Lena doesn't buy it. Now she’s come to that very bridge with the officer who found her sisters body. Armed with a cassette recorder and a gun, she’s determined to find out what really happened to her sister especially after her final text mentioned the officer by name… will Lena find the truth?
I really love the heart pounding, breakneck speed pace of Taylor Adams writing where everything takes place within the span of a few hours. It makes you feel right there and makes it impossible to put down! And in this story there were two timelines so the Adrenaline was going full force.
I also love that it follows only a few characters and you get snippets from each of their perspectives. Somehow, you STILL never know who to trust and twists still surprise you!
Overall it was action packed and I was very into it! Safe to say I’m a big Taylor Adams fan now after loving Hairpin Bridge and No Exit!

First of all, this is my first Taylor Adams book. Second, I got it from Joffe Books via NetGalley not William Morrow and Custom House publishing. But that is neither here nor there. This book was GREAT. I will request more from this author.
This is a real, true, page turning, heart stopping, heart pounding, book. One that could easily be a tv series. If you took each case and made a weekly show about that one it would fill your night with enough to last a while. This book is about two sisters but there is so much more involved.
It basically takes place in one day. Three hours and so many minutes plus whatever time was not recorded. To understand that you will have to read this book. It's what happens after a young woman commits suicide and her sister refuses to accept that she really took her own life. They are twins. Identical. They share the same DNA identical. But they are as different as night and day in every other way. Though I suppose after reading I do think maybe they share the same will to live. Have the same fight in them.
Twins, Lena Nguyen and Cambry Nguyen are identical twins. Like looking in a mirror identical. Yet they were so different. Lena was more closed off. More into books and school and family. Cambry was not. She lived for adventure. For the open road. For the thrill of life. That thrill came to a screeching halt in September of 2019 in Howard County, Montana, when she supposedly jumped to her death on Hairpin Bridge. Three months later, Lena, is there to find the truth. She never believes that her sister jumped willingly. She does not believe that Cambry committed suicide. She intends to find out what happened even it if costs her her own life. And it may do just that.
Lena meets Raymond Raycevic at a small diner and he has her follow him to the bridge. He is the one who found her sister's body. He is the one who called her parents with the news of their daughter's suicide. There is something about him that Lena does not think is right. She feels as if things are a bit off. But what can she do. Maybe try to get him to explain the things that are bothering her. Try to get to the full truth. From here Lena's life will never be the same. Finding out the truth is the most painful thing she will ever confront. The battle that rages inside of her is strong. The will to live is strong. The will to find out what happened is even stronger.
This book has so many twists and turns you will not know what to believe. Until the end when it all comes out. When all the gory details are displayed. Very graphic and realistic. You will feel the pain that these sisters feel. You will root for Lena to win and come out with the whole truth and for someone to be held accountable. You will be surprised in parts as to what has been happening. There are secrets revealed also.
This book takes you down a dark and emotional rollercoaster of a ride. One that you can not get off of until that very last sentence is read. You will hold your breath. You will cringe and you will feel pain. It's so realistically written. It makes you feel like you are right there on that bridge. Both the night of Cambry's death and the day Lena learns the complete truth. All the bends in the road will feel so realistic and all the twists will feel like a knives being pushed. This book is a very dark and thrilling ride for sure. Can you handle it is the question?
Told from each twins POV and in each one's voice you will learn many things. Some you may not believe but that is how things happen. I found one thing that didn't add up or was forgotten in this book but I won't mention that. It's not relevant at all.
Two quotes in this book that I liked: "Sometimes all that matters is your voice in the dark." and ""My sister helped me find you.""
Thank you to #NetGalley, #tayloradams, #joffebooks for this ARC. This is my own true feelings about this book.
I gave it 5/5 stars and recommend it. Just be warned it has parts that will truly make you cringe. But it's good.
