This is the first book I have read by Taylor Adams. I must be one of the few people out there that have not read No Exit. From what I have read about No Exit, Hairpin Bridge seems to be written in a similar format.

The book alternates timelines between Lena and her twin sister Cambry. Cambry allegedly committed suicide, but Lena believes there is more to her death and is interviewing an officer that she thinks is involved in Cambrys death. In addition to her sister's death, Lena is always coping with the fact that she was not as close with her sister as she could have been and quickly realizing that she might not have know anything about her sister's life.

I generally enjoy books that jump between times, but this one was a little harder to follow. There were times when I was several sentences into a new timeline, and I had no idea who the narrator was. Aside from that, the writing was top-notch. I love how the entire "present day" timeline took place over the span of several hours. In my opinion, this makes the book feel like it has a faster pace so I stayed interested for the whole ride!

Thank you Joffe Books and Netgalley for my free eARC in exchange for an honest review.

WOW!! I read this book in 2 days. I did not want to put it down, it was so fast paced and action packed. I loved how the book followed Cambry's last moments and switched perspectives to Lena at just the right times. I never knew what was going to happen next and I stayed up way too late to find out. LOVED it!!

I have no idea how to write this review. This book was really something different.

When I first started reading it, I had trouble getting interested. The writing style was a little different, and it was so dark and I wasn't sure what was going on. Then by the 2nd chapter, I kept turning pages just to see what happens next. Then I kept turning and couldn't stop.

This was a dark, twisted novel and you are not sure who the bad guy is for a while. Actually, you aren't sure what's going on for a while. The way that this story unfolded kept you on your toes, which was part of the appeal.

Thank you to the author, the publisher and to #netgalley for the ARC which did not impact my review.

I read this book in less than 24 hours! I was hooked from the first few pages and didn’t ever want to put it down. The main character is so lovable and you get drawn into her problems and want so badly to know what happened to her sister. I loved the way this book was written, flashing between different points of view. Taylor Adams never fails to disappoint!

I will start by saying I loved No Exit. It was the book that got me reading again and made me realize I really like thrillers and suspense. With that being said, I feel like this one didn't quite live up to Adams's debut. While there were quite a few moments of suspense and wondering what will happen next, I also found myself rolling my eyes and feeling disbelief at some of the things that happened.
It was still a good book, and kept me on the edge of my seat, but parts felt repetitive and a little monotonous.

For fans of “No Exit”, Taylor Adams strikes again! This story was gripping, nail-biting, unputdownable (words I don’t toss around lightly). The sisterhood dynamic and the characterization of our two main characters is something I loved, since we don’t see it often in thrillers.

I love how Taylor Adams always makes the most out of so few characters, since most thrillers overwhelm the reader with too many perspectives, red herrings, etc.

One thing this story did miss was those mind-altering twists that thrillers try to pull off, which is why this is more Suspense then anything. We watch the pieces of these characters stories slowly come together. Story was satisfying and there were no jarring loose ends, however, the story itself was pretty simple.

Lena Nguyen takes off for Montana to discover what really happened to her twin sister Cambry. The medical examiner says that she jumped off Hairpin Bridge, which is also nicknamed Suicide Bridge, but Lena knows that can't be true. She arranges to meet with the police officer who found Cambry's body, PO Raymond Raycevic. Lena has Raycevic take her to the bridge so she can see where her sister died, but she also has an ulterior motive - to find out if the officer killed her sister. Lena comes to learn exactly what happened to her sister - and what could happen to her.

I have come to think of Taylor Adams as the one-scene wonder. The majority of the story takes place on Hairpin Bridge with occasional flashbacks. He has a way of detailing the worst crimes in a way that you want to hear more about them. The details make your hair stand on end with his storytelling. Taylor Adams is quickly becoming an author I will buy without knowing the premise of the story because it will always be worth it.

I did not read Adams's first novel, so I do not know how this would compare. But if the suspense was anything like this novel, I would definitely give it a try!

'Hairpin Bridge,' focuses on Lena, whose twin sister Cambry died by suicide three months prior. Lena is convinced that her sister was actually murdered, and therefore goes back to the location of the death and attempts to prove her theory.

This book was fast paced, and intriguing, and there were twists throughout. I loved that the story was told through multiple points of view.

Though the experience was enjoyable, this book was not my favorite. I did not enjoy the twists and I did not feel a strong connection to the characters.

This fast paced thriller had me on the edge of my seat for the entire ride!! Just when I thought I knew where the story was headed, it took a different turn. Don't expect to get much accomplished in your every day life once you start this page turner.

Warning: this book will leave you breathless and sneaking pages in from your phone (if you so choose the e-book version) while on a date-night with your husband of 15 years who keeps yelling at you to put your phone away, but omg I'm at 95% on this book and I.CANNOT.STOP.

If you loved No Exit, you'll love this fast-paced, action-packed, amazing book! Yes, things happen that make you want to hit the MC. Yes, things happen that seem farfetched. But if you've ever watched an action movie and you can laughingly yell at the characters/plot for it's craziness, while still enjoying the movie, you'll love this one too.

It was fan-freaking-tastic.

Thank you NetGalley!!

Thanks to NetGalley and William Morrow for the opportunity to read an advanced reader copy. Hairpin Bridge was fast-paced, intense, and I hated putting it down to do things like work and eat. The twists were clever and kept me on the edge of my seat. I occasionally struggled with the different POVs and timelines, but that could have been because I was reading too fast. Can’t wait to pick up another book by Adams!

After the apparent suicide of her twin sister Cambry, Lena can’t believe that her sister would jump off a bridge to her death. The suicide text she receives still doesn’t solidify it. The text which read “please forgive me. I couldn’t live with it. Hopefully you can Officer Raycevic” only posed more questions for Lena. Lena believes Officer Raycevic has the answers and sets out to meet with him at the location of her sister’s death to put an end to the speculation.

I received No Exit as a gift last year and still haven’t gotten around to reading it but will make it a priority now after reading Hairpin Bridge. I had no idea what kind of book I was getting into. That I would forget to breathe at times and stay up late reading because I just had to know what happens in the next moment.

Hairpin Bridge took advantage of some of my worst fears and I had to scroll through TikTok for 30 min after reading it to avoid nightmares.

Almost the entire story takes place on Hairpin Bridge, a mostly unused and unsafe bridge from an old highway system. It takes place over a span of a few hours and jumps back and forth between Lena’s experience talking to the cop and what she believes her sister went through. The reader needs to keep this in mind as Cambry’s story is told as her sister imagines it, not necessarily what actually happened. How close is Lena’s version of Cambry’s story to the truth and will she get what she came for?

Buckle up for a wild ride with lots of surprises, moments of terror and a story that may end Lena’s life.

Thank you to @netgalley and @joffebooks for this ARC in exchange for an honest opinion. Hairpin Bridge publishes June 15, 2021.

I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was surprised at how much I loved this book. The action grips you from the first page and never lets you go. Although, I do wish that more of the novel was written from the sister's perspective because it seems that her character was not fully fledged. Also, although the villain was fun to read, I wish he was more nuanced, often he came off like a cartoon caricature. Ultimately, this is a fun thriller that I can't wait to someday see on the big screen.

No Exit was probably the craziest book I read in 2020 - which was very apropos of the wild ride that 2020 was itself.

I was SO STOKED when I could get a copy of this early on NetGalley and immediately jumped into a Buddy Read with Jenny. The best part of reading this book? The buddy reading element of reading and chatting with Jenny! I definitely had more fun chatting and bantering with her than I did reading this book....spoiler it wasn't my fave!

I had a rollercoaster of emotions with No Exit...I both LOVED and HATED it and ended up on a 3 star since I did like it overall. Unfortunately this one just really fell flat. The beginning was F.I.R.E. Then that was it. I was expecting the crazy elements like we had in No Exit, I mean isn't that Adams' "thing"? We had a weird snake moment...still confused...but that was about it.

I honestly felt bored at the repetition and dual twin timelines - I just wanted it over.

All that being said...I'm almost always in the unpopular opinion camp...so pick it up, read it, love it, devour it...cheers!

Hairpin Bridge was one of my highly anticipated novels of the year. I would love to thank NetGalley for offering me the opportunity to read it prior to the release date.

I had recently read No Exit by Taylor Adams and I was not disappointed. Adams has a way of roping you right in and putting you on the ride of your life. Hairpin Bridge, is nothing short of just that.

Action packed, fast paced, and quite the page turner! Although the ending was predictable, I still thoroughly enjoyed this book. I would highly recommend Hairpin Bridge to fans of action packed thrillers. This will be a fan favorite for the summer.

2.5/5 rounded down to 2

Format
The format gets very distracting and it's told in third person so sometimes I have to reread to confirm who’s mind I’m in. Here are all the different perspectives:
- Current/main timeline: Lena, Ray and their respective thoughts
- Lena’s blog
- Camry’s notebook (mostly just at the start)
- Lena’s recount/story of what she thinks happened to Cambry, with Lena’s thoughts weaved in there

Plot
Imagine you are watching an action thriller movie and the whole 2 hours is essentially focused around the epic showdown climax. That is exactly this book with the above perspectives weaved in there. It's exciting at first and hard to put down but it gets a bit much as it's so drawn out and repetitive to the point where it feels like fillers. For example there were too many car scenes and the blogs rambled. Every single chapter is like this so I had to skim.

The extra information or reveals we get from the different perspectives felt insignificant, they didn’t add much to the overall story and I didn’t feel like I learned a lot about the characters so I didn’t connect with any.

The twist was decent. All the different perspectives really lead you to a certain theory which made the twist have a bigger impact.

Characters
Overall I found the focus is more on the action and tension than the characters. Ray was kind of interesting, but the focus is on the sisters.
I don’t understand Lena’s desperate need to sacrifice her life to find out the truth about Cambry. There was a focus/highlight on their relationship but the events about their past didn’t paint a strong enough picture as it wasn’t enough to make me understand them and empathise.

Alternate Ending
For a darker ending, I thought it would’ve been fitting if all of Ray’s confession was recorded. As Lena was so desperate to expose the truth to the whole world, she never considered that it may be one she didn’t want to hear or reveal.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

First, I would like to thank Netgalley.com for the chance to read this amazing thriller, Hairpin Bridge by Taylor Adams. I quite enjoyed Taylor Adams' previous book, No Exit and I was very excited to read this new story. And Hairpin Bridge lived up to every expectation I had! It is the story about twins, Cambry and Lena and the mysterious death of Cambry. Lena feels compelled to find the answers about her sister's death and prepares herself well for the confrontation she will have with the Officer that was involved in the case. I read this book so quickly. It is the epitome of a nail-bitet!! So many twists and turns that you just don't see coming. I hate when I figure out the ending of the book and half-way and there was no way I had this book figured out at all! The shocks and surprises just kept coming!! If you like edge of your seat thrillers, I would highly recommend Hairpin Bridge. It was 5 Stars for me!

This is a story about a girl in search of the truth.

This was an okay read. The perspective shifts were confusing, and the dialogue didn’t land for me. On a positive note there were exciting moments, and it read very quickly.

Thank you Netgalley & Joffe Books for the eArc!
