I'm a little late to this one, but glad I didn't miss it! This is first in a series, so if you like starting with the first entry, this is the place to be. The cover of this one states that it's a "gripping mystery an suspense thriller," and that is an accurate description. Our lead detective is Rob Miller, sho is on his first investigation as lead detective and finds himself with an particularly heinous (trigger warning) rape and murder, which soon turns into a series of murders targeting woman who are about to be married.
I found this novel to be fast=moving and engaging. I wanted to see what happened next and felt the character development was strong. I'll continue to read this series.
Biba Pearce takes readers on a chilling journey through the gripping pages of "The Thames Path Killer," a psychological thriller that weaves together a deranged serial killer, an ambitious young detective, and a case that threatens to unravel everything.
The narrative opens with a brutal attack on a young woman, seemingly the work of a jilted and twisted ex-lover. As the story unfolds, the plot thickens with the discovery of two more women, both engaged to be married, found dead under similar circumstances. The press quickly dubs the perpetrator the 'Surrey Stalker,' and DI Rob Miller, a young and ambitious detective, finds himself thrust into a high-stakes investigation with the weight of similar cold cases pressing down on him.
Pearce skillfully builds the tension, keeping readers on the edge of their seats as the investigation intensifies. The psychological depth of the characters, particularly DI Rob Miller, adds layers of complexity to the narrative. Rob's balancing act between the demands of the case and the personal challenges of planning his own wedding with fiancée Yvette adds a human touch to the story.
The pacing of the novel is commendable, propelling the reader forward with each twist and turn in the investigation. The Surrey Stalker's elusive nature keeps the suspense alive, and the author effectively navigates the fine line between unveiling clues and maintaining an air of mystery.
While the suspenseful plot takes center stage, the novel also delves into the personal lives of the characters, providing a well-rounded view of their motivations and struggles. The dynamics between Rob and Yvette add a relatable touch, highlighting the toll that demanding professions can take on personal relationships.
One aspect that could have been further developed is the exploration of the Surrey Stalker's motives. While the pacing keeps the story moving briskly, a deeper dive into the mind of the killer could have added an extra layer of psychological intrigue.
In conclusion, "The Thames Path Killer" is a riveting psychological thriller that delivers on its promise of suspense and intrigue. Biba Pearce crafts a compelling narrative that explores the dark corners of the human psyche while skillfully balancing the personal and professional challenges faced by the characters. A solid four-star read for those who enjoy a chilling thriller with a human touch.
Always enjoy finding a new British Police Procedural. This did not disappoint. Looking forward to the next!
A true page turner. I finished this book so quickly as it was such a gripping story I just wanted to find out if they caught the killer! I truly felt like I was a part of the investigation, a very well written book and highly recommend it to anyone who likes crime thrillers.
After realising I had book 6 in this series I decided to get the earlier books then realised I had book 1 and hadn’t read it. Why I don’t know but in a way I’m glad.
I have read book 1 and enjoyed it so much I have purchased and read book 2 and now about to start book 3.
I love finding a new series to get stuck in to and a new author for me.
So pleased to have found this series.
It’s great getting to know the main characters and becoming familiar with them.
A crime thriller to get your pulse rising. This really is a good read and I recommend it.
This is another excellent book by Biba Pearce that keeps the reader enthralled until the last pages. It is about the investigation of a serial killer named the Surrey Stalker by DI Rob Miller and his team.
The first book in the DI Rob Miller series. A good storyline that had you gripped from the first page. Looking forward to the next one in the series
Biba Pearce weaves a tale that keeps the reader enthralled from the beginning, and keeps you entertained throughout the thrilling ride. Recommended for anyone who loves a good read.
Pearce's debut novel was a great success; a highly engaging read with lots of twists and turns in the plot. I found the victims to be brides-to-be a clever, original concept that worked well with the complementing of DI Rob Miller also being engaged whilst carrying out the investigation, adding a sense of danger to the novel.
I was hooked from the start, which is always a good sign.. I found the premise intriguing and finished the book in a day. I liked the fact it was set in an area that I am very familiar with.. I would recommend this book and will look out for future books by this author.
Thank you Netgalley and Joffe for allowing to read an advanced copy and to give my unbiased opinion.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a great storyline with excellent characters. I would highly recommend this book as it was a great read.
An OK read but it didn't really grab me that much. The main character DI Miller gets his first case - brutal rape and murder of a young woman on her way home. Rather quickly followed by more and similar murders. Miller has the inevitable problem girlfriend - can't take his dedication to the job over her. He's ambitious but making insufficient progress that the boss brings in another team to help. Their female lead is not as bad as Miller's team feared and progress is made. The storyline is interesting if rather unpleasant but the characters, I felt, rather shallow and stereotypical (but I do read an awful lot of detectives stories). There is potential however and I would like to read others in the series. Thanks to NetGalley and Joffe Books for an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
Most interesting storyline serial stalks his victims for some time and has all their movements and habits before killing them a good read keeping the reader hooked till very end.
This is my first Biba Pearce book, but it certainly won't be my last. The story was interesting and engaging from start to finish. The characters were believeable. I highly recommend this book to other mystery and police procedural readers.
I got to about 50% of this book and just didn't feel enough intrigue to continue. I liked the writing style as it wasn't a typical crime jargon that can often be confusing and off putting
I enjoyed the thrill of this book, it was fast paced and had me glued to find out who the killer was! Great read and looking forward to more from this author.
This is a rewrite of a book written by the same author several years ago and the rewritten novel is a good read
There is a deranged killer stalking woman on the Thames path
The tension is there in each page of the book and I wanted to read more to see if they caught up with the killer but I am not saying if they do
There is some sex and violence but only to be expected
Overall the book is far better than the previous book and well worth a look
Thank you netgalley for the copy of this book
I enjoyed this book, it ticked all the boxes as a crime thriller. The rape scenes didn't distress me too much, I have certainly read books with much more violence involved in the murders. The end of the book did seem a bit rushed and I was surprised when it came to an end but all in all a good read
Omg wow, what a breathtaking, tension fuelled m, gripping read. I loved the mystery the characters all hard spark and felt believable and real. I loved the wit and camaraderie between them all even the tension and relationship difficulties between the main character and his Fiancè. Also I loved where the action is set and it just made it even more intriguing.... though it does make me think twice about taking that path down the Thames to Kew Bridge 😂. Absolutely excellent and I want more!!!!
This is a straightforward police procedural and I really enjoyed it. So many authors in recent years only produce psychological thrillers so it was a pleasure to find a new series of the type British crime writers have excelled in for so long. I had no sooner finished this book than I was checking to see if the author had released any other work which says it all in my opinion. Can't wait to read more about these characters.
