Inspired by the story of the Glasgow Girls in the early 20th Century, Daisy Chain is a potentially charming tale (mostly) until the calamitous events near the end of the novel. Sadly, for this reader, at least, the characters felt rather wooden. I didn't get a sense of ever knowing their inner lives very well. What were they *really* thinking or worried about? Much of the scene-painting felt a bit flat, too. The author tells the reader, rather than shows what her characters and settings are like.
Many thanks to Two Roads Books and NetGalley for allowing me access to the ARC.
