This is a fast paced, intriguing and dynamic thriller, told from multi character perspectives of members of the same family. Everyone is hiding something, everyone is highly suspicious and the twists keep on coming. I couldn’t put this down and was pulled in from the very first chapter. The main twist and ending was completely unexpected and it floored me. I can’t say any more for spoilers but if you love a good high impact thriller that keeps you guessing pick this one up straight away!
This follows the Walsh family who all have something to hide.
I've had a mixed experience with Louise Jensen's books and this one was not my favourite. The story was fast-paced in most parts however I did not find the story or characters to be particularly memorable.
The Walsh family are having a difficult time. Lucy and Aidan’s marriage is under strain as their youngest son is seriously ill. Lucy feels like someone is watching her, their other son Connor is struggling after a traumatic event and Aidan is lying about his whereabouts.
The family receive cryptic threats, but who are they meant for? Everyone in the family is hiding something.
The story focuses on the family and alternates between their points of view.
I didn’t really warm to any of the characters, but by the end I had warmed a bit towards Aidan.
I found the story easy to read and I wanted to pick it up and read a few chapters to find out what was going to happen.
There are plenty twists and turns to keep you guessing. I had guessed a couple of parts but not the full story, so it was still enjoyable.
The latter part of the story really ramps up the twists and tension and I couldn’t read it fast enough.
At times I felt it was maybe a twist too many, but also felt it shows what a desperate parent could do to save their child.
I enjoyed this book and would recommend it. 3.5 stars rounded to 3.
Thanks to HQ Stories and NetGalley for a copy to review.
In All For You we meet the Walsh Family
Lucy, wife and mother who is falling to pieces
Aidan, husband and father, who is in too deep
Conner, son and brother, can never tell the truth
Everyone in this family has a secret to hide, what are they trying to protect and at what cost?
I have read and enjoyed all of Louise’s books and this one did not disappoint
Told in several views and set over 13 days, we start to learn about the secrets this family are hiding.
There are twists as each secret is revealed and my suspicion turns to someone or something else. If you like a book that keeps you guessing this one’s for you.
Gripped me from the start and held me till the very end. Highly recommend
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book
I've got a couple of Louise's books on my shelf that I've not read yet and for that I can only apologise. I'm binge reading them in February!
This book is so unbelievably powerful. I've been on an incredible journey with the Walsh Family.
The book is split into 3 parts and at the end of Part 1, I actually gasped at what I was reading, thought I had everything nailed (I was very very wrong!!)
I read it in two sittings and it was an amazing start to my Louise Jensen journey.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This book is like one of those fireworks displays. You start reading it and you know you are in for something spectacular that will be blow your brains. But there is a bit of a wait – the slow burner of anticipation in the first two-thirds of the book. That’s where Jensen develops her characters and builds the suspense. From page 1 you are told that Connor is going to be taken. In a way he expects it himself. He’s carrying a guilty secret and is overwhelmed by grief over a tragedy that has befallen his girlfriend. His mother Lucy is totally absorbed by his brother’s illness. Kieron has a degenerative liver condition and may soon need a liver transplant if he is to live. His father, Aiden, is entangled in an affair he doesn’t know how to end and fears that if he does end it, the consequences may be dire for him and his family.
Days are counted to the moment of Connor’s disappearance, and when it finally happens you will be tempted to conclude that maybe, on some level, you could have predicted it. That moment is the first firework going off, but it certainly isn’t the last. More and more revelations and twists blow up in your face, a whole barrage of even bolder, brighter and more explosive illuminations. In the last third of the book Jenson puts on the real fireworks extravaganza. You will be kept on your toes to the very end, and then you will be exhausted.
I struggled with this book to be honest - far too much repetition and frankly the whole story was ludicrous - cliche characters and far fetched plot. I'm sorry but I thought it was dreadful.
A gripping and addictive read. Plenty of twists that kept me on the edge of my seat. Will definitively reading more by this author.
This is book with lots of family secrets which emerge throughout the plot. It definitely keeps the reader engaged and focused and asking those who and what questions that make for a good thriller. I was a bit sceptical about the ending which was completely unexpected and a bit far-fetched for me, but I guess that it wasn’t completely unbelievable so it worked as the resolution to the story.
Another fantastic psychological thriller from the thriller queen Louise Jensen. This book was such a page turners, I couldn't put it down. I loved all the twists and turns the story went through and it kept me guessing right to the end.
Louise is an incredible writer! You wouldn't expect to feel so emotional reading a thriller but in Louises books, you definitely do. It's drama and tension with a touching and heart felt story to go with it.
There is so much mystery to this story!! This isn't just a 'who done it?' kind of book. There are multiple secrets slowly unfolding as the story goes on and Louise builds them up perfectly with little snippets but not enough to give anything away until the whole story starts to come to a head. And when they do, I was completely shocked! The twists were so well planned, I had no idea what was to come. As always, my suspicions were completely off the mark!
This is an absolute must read! I am a big fan of Louise's books and am aleady excited for the next one!
This is the first book by Louise Jensen I have read. It is good to know there are another seven for me to get stuck into. If they are anywhere as good as All For You I will be a very happy reader.
There were many moments when I was completely turned around as my theories were debunked.
SPOILER ALERT: Somehow I knew it was not Hailley's grave and that she was still alive. It had to be a young female family member (butterflies).
SAFE AGAIN: i was shocked by the 'kidnappers'. The first one was simmering at the back of my mind but never reached the boil. The others were totally out of left field.
Would I go to the same lengths for my children if I had the required skills? Hell no. I would die for them, no doubt, but this. The very thought makes me feel sick.
My thanks to NetGalley and publisher HQ for the electronic copy.
Oh My Word - what excellence! - Let me start unashamedly with a load of clichés: gripping, un-put-downable, absorbing, page-turner (and anything else in a similar vein). - did I like it? oh, you bet!
The writing is amazing, conveying guilt, sorrow, desperation....... and love. There's loads of twists you really don't see coming, along with red-herrings that lead the reader in quite a merry dance with surprises along the way.
The story is told from the points of view of of the Walsh family - mother Lucy, father Aiden and son Connor, and they all have their guilty secrets. Thirteen year old Kieron, their youngest, is suffering from a chronic liver condition; he idolises his older brother Connor whilst Lucy is devoted to give him his best chance of survival.
Three teenaged friends - Connor, Tyler and Ryan - all attended a 6th form residential camp - there, a tragedy happened. Tyler is reported missing, then Ryan - the whole town is afraid their teenager will be next - Lucy not least of all.
Everyone of the main characters has their own guilty secrets and it's through their points of view that the reader is brought up to date in an horrific conclusion.
This is a complex and totally absorbing plot. Excellent.
Love, love, love Louise Jenson and this does not disappoint! Loved how the book flipped between three narrators, each with their own secrets and story to tell. The individuals narrations become more and more intertwined as the book goes on, and kept me guessing all the way through. A psychological thriller not to be missed!
The Walsh family is full of secrets. Trying to protect these secrets and at what cost, their story leads us through past and present events that turn their world upside down. Each character had a secret that pushed them to the extremes to hide them, and thus we see them in their worst emotional states throughout the book.
There are so many twists in this book and I found myself unable to put it down. It was tense and gripping and I really didn’t want it to end!
There are so many things I want to say but I don’t want to ruin this book for anyone who wants to read it (if you like a good psychological thriller then this is the book for you!).
Overall, I really enjoyed the book as a whole and the only character I disliked was Julie. This was my first Louise Jensen book and I will definitely be reading more. This one was a 5 star read for me!
I love Louise Jensen’s books but she has outdone herself this time. I absolutely loved reading this book and was gripped from the first page.
Every person in the family has a secret but the reader is kept guessing all the way through the book as to what exactly that secret is. There was so many surprising twists and turns and I was kept guessing right until the end. An absolutely amazing thriller.
A very enjoyable read, this book kept me fully engaged and turning the pages.
Told from different viewpoints it seems as if everyone has something to hide as the events from earlier are gradually revealed . There were twists and turns and hints and red herrings. I was right on some counts but totally wrong on others.
Cleverly written, good character descriptions and a book I would be happy to recommend to friends.
A fast paced, uncomfortable psychological thriller. Written from multiple viewpoints, there are many twists and turns but I did not totally enjoy reading it.
Having read other novels by Louise Jensen I had some idea what to expect from this one, All For You, and I wasn't wrong as from the outset it was a wonderful read for me.
About the Book:
MEET THE WALSH FAMILY
Lucy: Loving mother. Devoted wife. And falling to pieces.
Aidan: Dedicated father. Faithful husband. And in too deep.
Connor: Hardworking son. Loyal friend. But can never tell the truth.
Everyone in this family is hiding something, but one secret will turn out to be the deadliest of all... Can this family ever recover when the truth finally comes out?
My Thoughts:
Lucy Walsh is a loving wife and mother working as an orthopaedic surgeon until just recently. Her husband, Aidan is a vet. They have two sons, 17-year-old Connor, and 13-year-old Kieron, who has a life-threatening illness. The story is told from varying viewpoints and I loved the way secrets were slowly unveiled and the clever building of suspense and weaving of deflection. In this compelling and taut tale, Louise Jensen writes so well about emotions and I soon found myself completely immersed in the lives of these people. This is an incredibly engrossing and shocking read with real depth, style and maturity in the writing. There is so much to keep the reader turning the pages and guessing and it was a riveting right through to the remarkable, dark ending.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel from HQ via NetGalley at my request. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
This is a well written, gripping psychological thriller that will keep you guessing all the way through.
It is a tense story of family, secrets and lies with well drawn characters and an original plot that held my attention from the beginning to the end.
Highly recommended!
