I’m a big fan of Louise Jensen so couldn’t wait to read her latest book, All For You. This a a gripping thriller that is full of twists and turns from start to finish. It does get a bit unbelievable towards the end but overall I really enjoyed it and look forward to the next Louise Jensen book!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy of the ebook in exchange for my honest review.
Thanks to netgalley for the chance to read this book.
Everyone in the Walsh family is hiding a secret. Three boys are taken after a tragedy involving all three of them, but it is not all as it seems. The book tells the tale from three of the family members points of view and how it is affecting them individually. I did not see the twist coming at all.
Wow, I never saw that ending coming, and yet when I look back all the clues were there! Another page turning triumph from Ms Jensen
Thank you to netgalley and HQ books for an advance copy of this book
This is psychological thriller writing at its very best. Louise Jensen grabs you from the very start and won't let you off the hook until the final page! There are tantalising twists and turns, false hints and staggering revelations that leave you breathless. A family of four, parents and two sons, all have lots going on in their lives, secrets and lives, hopes and fears, and the agony and anticipation of the reader is absolutely delicious!
I really enjoyed trying to figure out this one We were drip fed clues throughout in a very clever fashion. I was gripped to the very end. A real page turner and jolly good read
If you are looking for a story that is full of misdirection, tension and surprises, then look no further. Louise Jensen has once again managed to bring us a book that is full of brilliant characters, those you can root for and those you may wish to hold at arms length, and woven them into a story which starts as it means to go on - jam packed with suspense. From the very beginning of the book we know something is very, very, wrong, and what follows is the carefully plotted, tension building exploration of all that leads to that crucial moment in time. It's well paced, its enthralling and it is totally not what I was expecting.
This is the story of the Walsh family. Mom, dad, two kids. A very typical, very average, family dynamic. Or so you'd think. There is nothing at all typical about the Walsh family. The youngest son, Kieron, is ill, a terrible disease that is slowly taking him from the heart of his family. And the strain of managing his illness is breaking them apart. I love the way in which the author has explored this particular dynamic, the impact of long term illness on the extended family, but especially Lucy who feels the need to act as protector for reasons which go far beyond the obvious. The way it eats into Lucy's every conscious moment, and perhaps the not so conscious ones too is very skillfully drawn. It's a careful exploration of the psychology of managing long term illnesses, but one tinged with a kind of underlying sense of threat and the feeling that nothing is quite as straightforward as it might first appear.
I found Connor to be a very intriguing character. Beyond the strain of being older brother to someone who idolises him, there is something more about him, something just out of reach of my awareness. The picture becomes progressively clearer the more we read, and I found myself feeling a mix of sympathy and suspicion the more I learned of things that had happened in past. Secrets and lies are definitely the name of the game in this story and, to be honest, it is hard to know who to trust. Just when I thought I knew what the craic was, Louise Jensen lobbed in another curveball to throw me a little off balance. It worked to perfection, keeping my attention fully on the story and making me more determined to find out what was going on.
There are elements to this story that made me wince. I'm not squeamish, but one scene in particular really did become a touch unsettling. But then there is that constant sense of threat, that pulsing sense of something more that keeps the tension high from the very beginning. This is a kind of dual timeline story in that we learn much of what motivates at least one of the characters and drives a pivotal moment in the book, through a series of memories, and even the main story is really focused upon the days leading up to the shocking prologue, slowly carrying readers back to the present. The more I learned, the more I questioned what I thought I knew about the opening scenes, and the moer invested I became. I had my suspicions, but I was still ready to be floored by the ending. And to many extents I was - see earlier comment about the wincing. Still makes me grimace now thinking about it.
Once again, Louise Jensen has served up a nerve jangling, pulse pounding and suspenseful read that kept me guessing, and second guessing myself, throughout. If you love a mysterious, twisted, family noir, this could well be the book for you.
Beautifully written with compelling characters and a surprising plot, I was utterly gripped from page one. The subject of missing children can be difficult to navigate, but the author dealt with it really well and there were plenty of twists to keep me guessing till the end. Highly recommended.
Thank You to Net Galley and the Publishers for an advance copy.
This book charts the mental deterioration of a family facing pressures from events both past and present.
The family consists of the parents, the mother is a retired doctor and the father is a Vet, and two sons, the younger son has a health problem that will eventually require a transplant while the elder boy is grieving the seemingly accidental death of his girlfriend.
We are led through a timeframe in which the three boys present at the accident disappear one by one ., with the elder son being the last one.
It is extremely well-plotted and the suspense builds almost page by page and the ending is both surprising and shocking.
An excellent book which I thoroughly enjoyed
I have read a couple of this authors other books which I enjoyed so was looking forward to reading this one. I can genuinely say it didn’t disappoint! It had a unique storyline told from different character viewpoints which flowed together so well. It certainly kept me hooked and I never saw all the twists and turns. Really enjoyable book that I would recommend
Woah! This book grabbed hold of me from the first page and never let go. Even after finishing it, I’m still thinking about it!
The story flicks between Lucy, Aidan and Connor. The family have more than enough to be dealing with, with the youngest son being ill. I felt mainly for Lucy and Connor. As a mother, not being able to help your child is both heart-breaking and frustrating. The bond between Connor and his younger brother was so endearing but Connor’s head is also somewhere else. In fact all of their heads are currently all over the place.
Lucy, Aidan and Connor are all hiding secrets and I was desperate to find out what they were. I jumped to my own conclusions only to be totally wrong when the jaw dropping revelations start to come. And when I say jaw dropping, I really mean jaw dropping! The author lulls you in, tempting you with little tit bits that has you wanting more. When she serves you with the full truth, my goodness, my reading enjoyment went through the roof and I couldn’t sit still with all the excitement!
All For You had the adrenaline coursing through my body. It is a highly addictive read and one you will want to make sure you have no plans for the day as once you start, you can not stop. As the secrets and lies spiral out of control, I could feel the apprehension at what was awaiting me, growing. It will seriously mess with your head and have you ask yourself what you would do if you were in these characters shoes. A jaw droppingly, addictive psychological thriller that is guaranteed to be a big hit in 2022!
Thank you to HQ and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
The Walsh family Lucy and Aidan are struggling to cope with a very sick son, and the older son who's feeling a bit neglected and unloved and also dealing with some past issues. Lucy (the mum) is, worried for him and her younger son as he is extremely sick so has recently stopped working to look after him and other family issues to deal with. The family is on the brink due to friends being "taken" recently and all seems very troubling and if I'm honest, a bit depressing. Everyone has their secrets and all are feeling very guilty. There's lots of secrets that take quite a while to come out. Worth a read, but not one of my favs.
Gripping story involving the family and 2 friends. The mother Lucy her husband Aiden and two sons one has a liver condition and the other feels unloved. Each member of the family tell their side of the story.
Lucy the protective mother who will do anything to save her younger son from dying from a liver disease.
Aiden the father who has a secret and is trying to keep everything together.
Connor the eldest son who is angry and feeling unloved by his mother. When two of his friends go missing Connor fears he will be next.
What happens next will have you gripped and totally unexpected.
Could not wait until I reached the end.
I really enjoyed this one, It was told in three people perspectives and I was totally blindsided by what I thought was happening. The story had a way of making you think one way, and then totally changing your way of thinking. It was really easy to follow what was happening too - my only niggle was towards the end one of the main characters names was spelt wrong, he went from a Kieron throughout the whole book and then to a Kieran in a sentence.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for an arc of this family thriller. Lots going on, and even more being hinted at, but it does take quite a while to get going. It picks up pace half way through and delivers red herrings and twists. Not my favourite book by this author but it still gets 3.5 stars from me.
I've read a few books out of my comfort zone this month so I needed something gripping and twisty. This book definitely lived up to the brief.
It's grabs you in right from the prologue and is a rollercoaster ride from there.
We start with Lucy finding out her son has gone missing then rewind two weeks to the events that lead up to his disappearance.
The story is unravelled with points of view from each family member and flashbacks.
Just when I thought I had it all figured out I turned the page and my theories came crashing down.
I didn't realise when I requested this on #netgalley that I had already read a book by Louise Jensen. I really enjoyed The Gift, and after reading All For You I'll definitely be reading more.
4⭐ and one I'd recommend.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest, independent review.
The Walsh family seem like an ordinary family on the outside - devoted wife, faithful husband, two lovely sons - but inside, everyone is holding secrets and falling apart.
The book opened with drama, and from the start, I could tell everyone was hiding something and were not who they seemed. What had happened in mum Lucy's past? Where was dad Aidan going? Why does everyone hate Connor and his friends so much? What had happened to Connor last year?
All For You was an absolute pageturner! The story is told from each members' POV which allows the story to unravel gradually, spilling out all of the shocking secrets and twists. There were a few dark moments of the book which may not be for everyone; they did make me feel uncomfortable at times.
Although I did warm to the characters and they felt authentic, as the story developed, I found I gradually disconnected with Lucy... but without giving too much away, maybe this was a sign of things to come!
I had previously read ‘The Gift’ by Louise Jenson which I thoroughly enjoyed so was keen to read this one. If I am honest I didn’t find it as compelling as ‘The Gift’ but it as certainly a good read. Well written with some interesting characters building the suspense up throughout.
The Walsh family are troubled and all of them are hiding their own secrets, but one of them has a secret that threatens to rip the family apart. Lucy and Aiden have a loving marriage and a hard working son named Connor. Everything on the surface looks rosy but they are all hiding something.
The book is full of suspense and emotion and a good read.
I would like to thank both Netgalley and HQ for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
I’d like to thank H.Q. and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘All For You’ by Louise Jensen in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Members of the Walsh family, mum Lucy, dad Aiden and older son Connor, are keeping secrets. When Connor’s friends Tyler and Ryan disappear he believes he’s next as retribution for what happened to his girlfriend Hailey at their school’s residential centre. But as the younger son Kieron’s illness worsens the tensions in the family become unbearable.
‘All For You’ is an amazing psychological thriller by one of my favourite authors. From page one I’ve been gripped as the tension increases and what appears to be a normal loving family gradually unravels. The story counts down from thirteen days before Connor disappears and is told through the eyes of the main characters, each giving a little more detail of what happened in the past, until we learn the secrets they’re all hiding. As the story progresses I’ve been continually surprised with the direction the twists and turns lead and have had to keep changing my opinions of the characters and the reasons behind what they’re doing. But the ending, and what a massive shock it was, had me glued to my Kindle and unable to stop reading until I’d reached the last page. This is an extremely tense thriller that I can definitely recommend.
Brilliant !
I loved this authors last novel and was really disappointed when I found out the publishing date for this book had been pushed back till next year ! (Jan 2022) so I was really pleased when I found out I’d been accepted to read it on here :)
It really kept me on the edge of my seat, I think I could have read it in one sitting but I had to sleep !!
I Loved it ! I’m really looking forward to the next one !!
10/10
I never repeat the blurb. Well, the opening of this just threw you right into the action and while the first half was a little slow and disjointed with perhaps just a few too many dangling herrings of the red variety, the pace of the second half picked right up and the complex and interwoven threads of the story came to a fairly satisfying, if not slightly cheesy, ending.
