My first Jeffrey Deaver novel.
It didn't really resonate with me, I think I'd be better off going back to the beginning and learning about the characters and their stories from the beginning as I've heard so many good things about the author and this series.
It's definitely a case of, it's not you, it's me.
I'll come back to this book when I have caught up with the series.

This is the first Jeffery Deaver book I’ve read, so I had no idea of the backstory of Lincoln Rhyme.
A good book.

An entertaining read! This is actually my first Jeffrey Deaver book, I'm pleased there are so many others! A hooky, twisty, spine-chilling thriller to keep you turning the pages. Loved how the tension built.

What a joy to be back in the world of Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs. The attention to detail and intensive research in Deaver's Rhyme novels is second to none and The Midnight Lock is no exception. What I loved most about this novel, as always, is the forensic evidnece side of things. It truly amazes me to see the CSI work developing and offering clues within the pages of a crim novel in this very unique way.
The way the threads of the novel are woven together are inspired and the ongoing relationship between Sachs, Rhyme and the rest of the team is a joy to read.
Settling into The Midnight Lock was like throwing off my slippers, curling my legs up on the couch and settling in for the long haul.

Lincoln Rhyme is a forensic investigator for the NYPD and his wife, Amelia Sachs, is a police officer. When an individual styling himself "The Locksmith" starts breaking into women's apartments and moving things around whilst they are asleep, Rhyme is reminded of a previous case and is determined to find the perpetrator.
The only problem is that Rhyme is kicked off the case due to bungling a prosecution for a mobster which results in a dangerous man walking free. Undeterred, and with his wife's and others' help, Rhyme still works the case.
There is also the small matter of a homeless man in the frame for an alleged homicide and the proprietor of a sleazy newspaper trying to reconcile with his son. A page from said newspaper appears at each of the apartments targeted by "The Locksmith" and written on with the victim's lipstick.
As you will gather, not everything is as it seems, and there is plenty of politics going on as the various pieces begin to fall into place. One thing is clear, there is somebody out there with a far bigger agenda than simply breaking into apartments. This person has murder on their mind, and it is up to Rhyme to put the pieces together, leading to a tense denouement.
I hadn't read Jeffery Deaver before but will definitely do so again. This was a well-written police investigation, with interesting lead characters and a well-constructed plot. I enjoyed the small details that helped build a picture of the suspect before a clever twist threw everything back in the mix just when the identity of "The Locksmith" seemed obvious.
This is #15 in the series and it will be interesting to read some of Lincoln's back story in previous investigations.
I was sent an ARC of this book by HarperCollins UK, in return for an honest appraisal.

This is my first Jeffery Deaver and Lincoln Rhyme book. Having watch the movie though I had certain expectations which the book didn’t quite live up to.
The beginning is quite thrilling with the first few crimes of the locksmith, but then the suspense gets lost in the middle and end part when the culprits get revealed almost in a rush.
I still enjoyed the read though hence the 4 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins for letting me review this arc in exchange for an honest review.

I've read books in the Rhyme series before and loved them, so when I seen this on NetGalley I had to request it.
I'm not sure how to feel about this book.
Jeffery Deaver is an amazing author, he shows great knowledge and produces believability in his writing.. The Midnight Lock is no exception.
What I loved- Rhyme is a great character and from the start of this book you feel his original presence within the writing. The concept is well thought out and definitely has a blurb that hooks you in.
The storyline is very cleverly written, with miss directions and twists.
Just the thought that someone could be capable of getting past any lock, security system is frightening.
The pov of 'The Locksmith' is creepy and a little chilling. The storyline produces some very tense moments, some which made my skin crawl.
What didn't work for me-
This is obviously a massive well established series, but could be read as a standalone. However if this was your first Lincoln Rhyme in my eyes you just wouldn't get enough character progression or connection to carry on with the series. The book itself is very forensic heavy and I now feel like I know the history of every lock ever made.. It was just too much at times. I found myself drifting while reading and not wanting to pick this up as much as I have with the earlier books in the series. I sometimes just felt lost in information.
Overall-
Jeffery Deaver's writing always comes across intelligent and well thought out. The Midnight Lock is superbly written but definitely requires full concentration. The storyline is creepy and draws you in gradually; I sometimes wished it would pick up the pace. The misdirection and twists are brilliant with a great unexpected ending. I'd recommend this book, however if you've never read a Lincoln Rhyme go back and read The Bone Collector first.

The Midnight Lock by Jeffrey Deaver is another Lincoln Rhyme novel bringing familiar characters including Amelia Sachs, his wife, and Thom his aide working with the NYPD to solve crime. There are a few storylines running through this and Deaver brings them together very well and credibly. There is a lot of detail relating to locks and forensics which I love but yet, at times, it interrupts the flow of the story. Overall the characters are well developed and the pace and tension of the storyline is excellent in most part.
A good enjoyable read. Four stars

Now this was the first Jeffrey Deaver book I have read in YEARS and OMG I have been missing out!
I was slightly worried when I realised this was the 15th book in the Lincoln Rhyme series but it was easy to follow and didn't take anything away from the story.
There are a couple of storylines running through the book which Jeffrey Deaver brings together superbly at the end.
This tale is based around the perp who gives himself the name 'The Locksmith'. This unknown criminal is somehow able to enter any impregnable lock without leaving any trace. Entering properties without leaving a trace but let's it known hes been there, watching, by moving items.
Rhyme and Sachs need to find out who this man is before he escalates from just 'watching' his victims.
I really enjoyed learning about different locks and lock picking. Deaver gave enough information for me to understand but didn't give too much information so that I felt stupid.
A super fast paced read that has a multitude of twists and turns and explosive ending. Absolutely loved it!
Huge thanks to netgalley and Harper Collins UK for the ARC.

Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs are back. The story begins with someone breaking into a womans home and the plot starts there! Plenty of drama and suspense in this novel with twists and turns with the old team all involved.
Great read and as usual a page turner.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book.
A good read. Part of a series so I felt I was missing a little of then back story

The Midnight Lock is yet another superb story by Jeffery Deaver, featuring Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs. It’s a complex plot with many additional storylines combining to create compulsive reading. The storytelling is absolutely gripping and tense with many twists and turns making for an unforgettable read.
The attention to detail, in particular the intricacies of lock picking, is engrossing. Jeffery Deaver fans won’t be disappointed.
My thanks to Netgalley and HarperCollins for the complimentary copy to read and review.

Full review to be posted soonish. I'll update review with links to socials.
I would like to thank the publisher and netgalley for providing me a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. A brilliant read, it gripped me and terrified me from the beginning in equal measure. Really well written, with characters developed as part of a series, this is a really great read for thriller fans. Again, terrifying but great!

Thanks Netgalley for this ARC.
Rhyme and Sachs are back with another bang.
I've not read all the books in this series but I find you can dip in and out with no problems as stand alones.
They call him The Locksmith. No one in the city is safe if he decides you are the next one up for a midnight visit. No lock or alarm can keep him out. But just what is his motive? And how can Rhyme investigate when he's kicked from the case under investigation himself?
Another race against time for Rhyme, Sachs and their team had me on the edge of my seat. I did guess early on where it was headed but this did not spoil the reading.

I had forgotten just how good Jeffrey Deaver is at developing characters and plots.
Lincoln Rhymes lab has been called into question during a recent trial. His wheels have brought him a ban on forensic work for the time being. He's under investigation.
The Locksmith is also in town. He lets himself in whilst you are sleeping. You wake wondering if the things that have been moved are you! But his intentions are to turn deadly.
The Locksmith can bypass the most advanced security systems. The world is his oyster and no one is safe.
Lincoln and his wife Amelia Sachs need to discover what is happening to stop this person. The couple have the most dynamic relationship that help to solve the most heinous crimes.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an ARC

Firstly, I’d like to thank Net Galley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. I really enjoy Jeffrey Deaver’s books.
It has been a while since I read a Lincoln Rhyme book, and was very much looking forward to it. However, it didn’t hold my attention like I expected. I usually can’t put his books down, but it took me a while to get through it. A story of someone who could pick all locks, and could find his way into the homes of various women, which they found very unsettling as he made sure they knew someone had been there. The investigation featured organised crime and police corruption, as well as the usual exciting forensics. All in all I did enjoy it, and look forward to the next one in the series.

Not up to Mr Deavers normal standard but still enjoyable. The intriguing workings of Lincoln and Amelia were somehow diluted by police department and mayoral office politics, started because of an undercover operation to capture a very careful criminal. The main characters remain faithful to their pasts which is like pulling on your favourite sweater, you know what to expect.

Good old Jefferey Deaver. One of the authors I turn to when I'm in a bit of a reading slump or just can't get into anything. This was a rollicking read as usual. Consistently good, and I'm always surprised by the final outcome. Great read. Recommend.

At last Lincoln is back.
This was creepy, complex and complicated and weird. - well I found it weird!
I really enjoyed most of the book but the last 1/3 was a bit of a mess and I know someone else mentioned this.
I love Jeffrey's books, all of them, but for me this fell a bit short and I hate to say that as he is my favourite author!
