As usual in my reviews, I will not rehash the plot (plenty of reviews like that out there already if that's what you're looking for!)

I enjoyed reading this novel, which has a very Cinderella vibe about it. Although I didn't particularly like the character of Juliette, I very much liked Fran. Fran's character seems to be a bit of a doormat to start with, cowed by her loseresque fiance, so I was really pleased as her strength returned as the story progressed. I found some of the tale a teeny bit hard to swallow, but what the heck - this is a story! - and I liked the way it unfolded.

I wasn't sure about Evan to begin with, but he definitely redeemed himself, and I'd love to know what happens next!

You'll enjoy this if you have any interest at all in the heady world of "celebrities" and seeing how the other half lives - throw in a feisty female character or two, a Prince Charming, and a sprinkling of magic dust and hey presto - you have a fun, warm, romantic read - perfect for the run up to Christmas.

Looking forward to reading more by Lindsey Kelk in the future.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC. All opinions my own.

Hard up for work, Fran Cooper decides to accept a mysterious temporary placement as a PA to a celebrity. When she realises she is charged with getting internationally famous, and difficult, singer Juliette to an exclusive event. The Crystal Ball, where the worlds rich and glamourous gather on a Mediterranean island for a night like no other.

What Fran doesn’t know is that she’ll be the one wearing the most beautiful dress and having a night she’ll never forget. Because anything can happen on a night like this.

I haven’t read much by Kelk and am fast wondering why. I really enjoyed this book; it had the feelings of Cinderella but filled with a lot more funnies! I was pleasantly surprised to find the romantic element took a secondary role to the protagonist’s character arc.

I loved Fran! She was so relatable and had me laughing out loud for most of the book. Whilst her self-sacrificing nature and ability to easily fade into the background serves Fran well in her professional roles, she begins to realise in her personal life it just makes her a bit of a mug. Constantly making excuses for her fiancée Stewart, to the point of blaming herself for issues in their relationship, this trip of a lifetime really shines a light on how Fran is living her life for others instead of herself. Seeing the changes she made for herself, along with the support of the rest of the charming cast, was feel good fiction at its best.

Would highly recommend for some entertaining escapism!

When I started Lindsey Kelk’s ‘I Heart’ series ;a very long time ago) I fell in love with her books and I’m glad to say that love affair continues! Swipe for the description but honestly If you love a rom-com this is for you 💗

When I requested this title on NetGalley I already had the hardback pre-ordered. Since I Heart New York, Lindsey Kelk has been my absolute auto buy author and without sounding dramatic, on occasion her books have really perked me up. On A Night Like This was no exception - at a time when my dear Dad is about to start his cancer treatment, I knew I could rely on Lindsey’s humour and escapism for the perfect read.

On A Night Like This is just gorgeous. A beautiful, modern day take on the classic Cinderella story with Fran Cooper our leading lady. Yet another character I would love to be friends with, I was routing for her from page one to go after her dreams and find her real Prince Charming - Stew is ew!

I could talk about this book for hours but I’d give the whole plot away. If you love a rom com look no further, Lindsey Kelk will transport you from Sheffield to Italy with laughs, friendship and of course a little romance. The glitz and glamour is palpable, although I’m definitely thinking I’m not built for yacht life (thank goodness I have lemonade money)! The way Lindsey writes the characters you definitely feel they are real people and I enjoyed every single one of them!

I’m really hoping for a sequel, I need to know what happens next for Fran!

Oh my, this book just outromanced all other romance books! I’m not going to recap the plot entirely, but if you like romantic books you’re going to love this one.
Short recap: Fran, the main character, doesn’t exactly know what she wants to do for a job, so she temps as an executive assistant. She’s engaged, but her relationship is stagnant. Fran gets a fabulous temp job working for a very famous person, and ends up alone in an amazing gown at the most exclusive party called the Crystal Ball. She has some unusual experiences, and meets all kinds of fascinating people including one extremely handsome and charming man.

The plot is a modern Cinderella retelling and well written, and the characters are so much fun, especially Fran. I’m sorry it had to end, and now I absolutely must find out what happens next. Lindsey Kelk, please write a sequel!
5 very happy stars.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I knew I had to read this book as soon as I saw the cover! It’s absolutely beautiful and attracted me to the book straight away. After moving to Sheffield to be with her fiancé, life isn’t turning out quite the way that Fran imagined. When she is offered the job of being a PA to a celebrity, she jumps at it! It’s only for five days and surely the opportunity is too good to pass…

I absolutely loved this book! It was amazing and had me hooked right from the very first page! You know the book is going to be a great read when you connect with the main character straight away and Fran’s such a lovely character! She was however, far too good to be with her fiancé, Stew and I willed her throughout the story to kick him into touch! The celebrity who Fran has to work for is certainly a handful, but I loved her and giggled my way through them working together! The introduction of the very handsome Evan, I have to admit, did make my heart go pitter patter and as long as he was in the story, I was very happy!

This book, for me, was a wonderful mixture of light-hearted fun, life lessons and experiences and a magical love story! Some parts of the storyline felt perfectly realistic, whereas other parts were wildly extravagant and over the top! The whole book, however, was the perfect escapism into a glittering celebrity world and I loved every single second of it! The drunken antics were hilarious, The Songbird was luxurious and I want a ticket to the next Crystal Ball! This was a fabulous modern day fairy tale with Fran most definitely fitting into Cinderella’s shoes (or trainers!) perfectly!

I was genuinely sorry when I finished this book, and will certainly be reading more by this author! It was such an easy book to read and one which left me with a big smile! I would definitely recommend and it’s five big sparkling stars from me!!

A Cinderella love story.
Fran is offered a job as a PR for the celebrity Juliette so she leaves her cheating fiancé behind.
She is flown out to a yacht in Italy, she becomes friends with Juliette or so she thinks as Juliette leaves her in the lurch. Then Fran decides to attend the Crystal ball by herself without Juliette even if she gets the sack for it.
There she meets her prince charming.

If you want a romantic escapism this is the book for you, I found it went a bit downhill half way but it was an easy read.

Fran meets Evan at an event she shouldn't be at and when she is nearing the end of her relationship with her fiance. Will they have a chance to be together in the real world?

Enjoyable read, but I would have liked more of an epilogue.

Thank you to #NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read #OnANightLikeThis by #LindseyKelk.
A fabulous feel good novel that you won’t put down until it’s read.
Fran is living with her fiancé in Sheffield and doesn’t want to admit to herself that life is not going the way she imagined. When the chance of a lifetime job comes along she grabs it with both hands but can she find her happy ever after. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thanks to Netgalley, publisher and author for allowing me to read this advanced reader’s copy in return for a fair and honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was like a breath of fresh air. The story and the characters made me feel like I had been invited into this story with them. It held my attention the whole way through. It was a piece of joyous writing. I have now purchased a series by the same author and can’t wait to get going. This brightened up my days.

I normally love Lindsey’s books, and I enjoyed this one. It was probably one of my least favourites so far though. Just a bit too far fetched for me. Although liked that it was originally based in Sheffield!

What a fun read! I love Lindsey Kelk books and this one was great. Fran was such a likeable character and I really felt for her in this one! Her fiancé of 12 years, Stew, was not a character I warmed to and I loved seeing Fran grow and realise that she doesn’t need someone. The plot was wild and entertaining and I found it so funny at points. This book definitely had me hooked and it was such a great read! All the celebrity drama and events at the Crystal ball were so good and I loved how it was all wrapped up!

Thank you to Harper Collins UK and Netgalley for this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

It’s been a while since I enjoyed a rom-com so much! On a night like this was absolutely perfect from start to finish and this contemporary version of Cinderella was a delightful read.

When Francesca accepts a mysterious job as a PA to a celebrity her life will turn upside down in a matter of days, and after a magical night at the Crystal Ball she will be forever changed.

Fran was such a nice character. She was smart, down to earth, funny (I actually laughed out loud with several of her remarks) and way too caring with others that usually don’t deserve it (I hated Stew’s guts!). During her stint as a PA to international singer Juliette, she experienced a journey of self realization and personal growth that was truly relatable. How many times have we all been stucked in a situation/job/relationship just for convenience and fear of taking a leap?

Although Juliette’s character had her moments, I liked her from the start as she was a clear case of someone alone even when surrounded by dozens. I loved how her relationship with Fran evolved.

The Crystal Ball was quite something! And what to say about Evan! OMG! I fell in love with him too. I loved his outlook on life and his jigsaw puzzle theory.

Although it may look this is just a romance story, it is much more. It is a story about relationships, but also about friendships, second chances and taking notice of what you really want from life and going for it. It deals with all these themes in a really uplifting way, helped by a fantastic cast of characters.

Sweet and funny story that will make for the perfect seasonal read. If you’re in the mood for a modern fairy tale, On a night like this is your book.

What do you expect from a story that begins with the words: ”Once upon a time in a great kingdom"? A fairy tale, right? And that’s exactly what this book delivers: a love story that isn’t realistic but pretty enjoyable.

Story:
Fran Cooper has been with Stewart for like forever (okay, twelve years), but the relationship seems to have settled into the mundane and lost its charm. While she is pondering over what she needs to do to get her life back on its earlier track, a fabulous opportunity lands at her doorstep: a temporary job as the personal assistant to a demanding VVIP diva. Soon, she finds herself on a yacht around the Mediterranean and en route to a one-of-a-kind party named “The Crystal Ball”, attended by and affordable to only the filthy rich. This night ends up changing a lot for Fran, not just professionally but also personally.
The story comes to us in the first person perspective of Fran.

Where the book clicked for me:
✔ The love story isn’t the main theme of the story. It is more focussed on Fran’s coming into her own and taking a firm stance to rejuvenate her life. Friendship is also given a greater role to play than romance.
✔ There are plenty of hilarious moments in the story. Fran’s talks with herself are quite funny and a few will even leave you snorting.
✔ Her best friend Jess is the kind of friend everyone would love to have. I loved her character! (Can we please have a spinoff with Jess in the lead?)
✔ While the story is quite evidently based on Cinderella’s fairy tale, the way the author has incorporated contemporary relationship issues within the traditional tale is worth mentioning.
✔ The perils of being a celebrity are woven fairly well into the storyline.
✔ A very common trope in recent romances is how thirty-something women are in long relationships with a jerk and only a getaway/(casual appearance of a potential new mate/old flame) makes them realise how bad things are. While a certain part of that is applicable to this book too, I liked how Fran already knew that her relationship was in trouble and she was wondering if and how to fix it. That is much more believable that a woman living blindly on cloud nine and then dropping suddenly into reality and romantic disillusionment.
✔ The ending is written really well. I don’t expect many surprises in romance because everyone knows how things will go, and yet there were a couple of things (trivial but still cute) that surprised me at the finale.
✔ It’s a quick read.

Where the book could have worked better for me:
⚠ The story goes way over the top after about 40%. Many situations felt impossible and/or unbelievable. So if you can suspend your disbelief and go with the flow, you'll enjoy it better.
⚠ One of the potential romantic leads makes a hot initial appearance but soon his character is given different shades. The other potential romantic lead doesn’t make an appearance until more than half of the book has passed by. While this is a wonderful surprise and leaves you in anticipation for the appearance of the right “Prince Charming”, it also means that the connection between the leads feels sudden and inexplicable.
⚠ Those who are all for “love at first sight” and “sparks on first touch” and “insta-connections” will certainly make googly heart eyes at the magical link between Fran and her new beau, but others who are more like me (jaded, practical, disillusioned souls 😂) might just end up rolling their eyes.
⚠ Fran and Jess are the only characters who are carved well enough. The rest are a bit flat in comparison and their decisions and actions sometimes feel bizarre. (If I am reading a romance and I don’t feel a thing for the male lead, that’s doesn’t bode well for my experience with the book. I need a loveable and connectable fella in the story!)

All in all, this is still a decent romance and will make most its readers happy. Pick it up if you are looking for an escapist Cinderella retelling set in the contemporary world.
3.5 stars from me, rounding up to 4.

My thanks to HarperCollins UK and NetGalley for the ARC of “On a Night Like This”. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.

Fran is an out of work personal assistant, secretary, at times general dogs body who is feeling stuck in a boring life with her fiancé Stu. She’s sick of being told what to do and where to do it. So whilst looking online for a job, she decides to contact job agencies she’s used before, needing/wanting a job. However she doesn’t expect to be offered one immediately if she can get to London ASAP.., which she does. She’s interviewed, given her uniform, signed a none disclosure form and picked up by a car to be taken to a waiting personal jet before she can catch a breath. She is then taken to.the most luxurious yacht imaginable and shown to her room where she waits for her employee. Her new job Personal assistant to a singer who likes her privacy, likes to drink, be rude, spend money but has no friends other than those who like the lime light too. When they dock in Italy where she is to do a show for a charity, she demands a drink that unfortunately isn’t on board and demands Fran go to get some, which she does, not without crashing into the most gorgeous American man in her life. She apologies and runs back to the boat, however it’s gone.
She’s told to go to the hotel and wait till morning where she will be collected to return to the uk as she’s been fired.
Fan does this, meets the booked make up artist and gate cashes the ball of the year, fabulous, she bumps into the gorgeous American and spends the evening in his company, knowing that she will never, ever see him again.
But you know love rules the world and if you find the one, Heaven and earth won’t stop you, money helps of course.
A wonderful story of love and hope

OMG, I love Lindsey Kelk books and this one was amazing. Fran is stuck in a life that she doesn't realise is sucking the life out of her. When she takes on a temping job involving working with one of the biggest megastars around she doesn't realise that her own life will change forever. Fran and Juliette embark on an interesting five days that will change their destiny. So many laughs and a few home truths make them face some difficult decisions. Can't recommend it enough.

What a glorious pre-Christmas magical treat of a book.

I love @lindseykelk 's writing. Her heroine's always teach me something about my own life, and Fran is no exception. Her witticisms had me in stitches. I really enjoyed the Cinderella style of this story, but it's much deeper than a mere fairy tale, as it touches on the darker, meaner side of celebrity. The romantic lead is wonderful (no spoilers). I loved his self-deprecating humour and jaw-aching (in a good way) sweetness.

This is THE perfect November/December read to either get you in the mood for the festive season, or escape it! Highly recommended.
