I loved this book. I found it really easy to escape into the story and loved all of the characters- except Stew!

I loved that the book was as much about self discovery and my favorite parts were the bits where Fran was able to overcome her disasters and realise she will be ok for herself. I didn’t like that- as usual- a man comes along to ‘save the day’ as though a woman can’t be complete without someone else. I did like that she made him wait but it still felt sadly unrealistic. Not enough to detract from the rest of the stand out book though

Every time I see the title of this book, I have the Kylie song running through my head, which instantly reminds me of the Cinderella panto from my time working as a kids rep for TUI. And although this book certainly isn't a panto, it definitely is reminiscent of a fairy tale, complete with elements of rags to riches, in fact I can kind of see a fairy godmother in it too now that I think this through too, and certainly is a handsome "prince" sort of a role too!

So definitely has a fairy-tale kind of feel to it and it was an incredibly quick read that I didn't want to put down, and thankfully I found time to read it in one go, which was the best sort of a treat I could have given myself.

From the moment that Fran agrees to a top secret temp assistant role with very little info known before the interview, or even fully understanding just what she is agreeing to, despite knowing her fiancée may not be overjoyed, it sets in wheels the motions that will change her life completely.

And it transports us readers to initially a yacht sailing around Italy, and then to the most amazing exclusive ball for the uber rich and famous, given the ticket price, that Fran doesn't technically have a ticket for.

Which is where the fairy-tale magic and fairygodmothe-resque elements fit into the story and from there she meets her potential Prince charming as well as us readers getting the most magnificent descriptions of this Ball, and a good idea about the sorts of people attending.

I just loved every single thing about this book, it's more a journey of discovery for Fran, and although their is a romantic element it wasn't the main focus, more about being true to yourself and not changing yourself to please others.

This hit all the right notes for me and felt like classic Lindsey Kelk, utterly brilliant, and I kind of hope we may see more from these characters in the future as I was really enjoying them. Well all apart from Fran's fiancée, quite happy to not see him again!

Truly enjoyable and one all Kelk fans will certainly enjoy!

Thank you to Harper Collins and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

About half way through this book I thought the perfect way to describe this book would have been "modern day cinderella story" and lindsey kelk must have known people would think that as a few pages later she mentions cinderella.
This book is so much more than that though, yes there's a love story but the story of friendship, kindness and finding your place in the world when you are lost stands out so much more than the love story which I loved.
You follow Fran on a completely surreal experience and find yourself relating to her in places. For me, I was that absorbed in the book that I felt like I was Fran at times.

I hope there's a follow up book as I have a feeling that the other 3 female characters have some pretty good stories to tell.

This is a feel good book with a fun premise. Francesca has been with her fiancé for many years, and after moving to his grandmother’s house in a small town from London, she is jobless, in a rut and uninspired. This all changes when she accepts a temp job in London against her fiancé’s wishes. From here we follow Fran’s outrageous adventure as she navigates the world of celebrity. This is a perfect light holiday read. Thanks to Harper Collins UK Harper Fiction and Netgalley for an ARC of this novel

An absolute belter of a book!
Lindsey Kelk has written a modern day fairy tale where the hero finds herself at sea and eventually finds herself. Hilarious gags, heartbreaking issues and a brilliant take on celebrity, friendship, love and fulfilling your own needs.

Fran has given 12 years of her life to her relationship with Stew, moved counties and jobs to be with him trying to keep their relationship alive.after he had slept with someone else. Finally she realised she deserves more, applies for job back in London. What a rollercoaster. A new friend eventually, and romance, are just what our heroine deserves. Great novel.

Huge thanks to NetGalley and HarperFiction for letting me read an advanced copy of On A Night Like This.

What a fun, fantastic read this was!

The first half of the book was actually my favourite, I loved the dynamic between Fran and Juliette. Fran is such a loveable character that I had so much time for, I loved her self discovery in this book - can we please be friends?

I found the second half of the book to be quite over the top and far fetched but this didn’t take away my enjoyment of the book at all. I still enjoyed all the descriptions of the ball. It’s the perfect glitzy and glamorous book in the run up to Christmas.

Would highly recommend if your looking for a fun, feel good romance novel!

Another fabulous novel from Lindsey Kelk full of humour, wit and friendship.

Fran Cooper is an executive assistant. She’s moved back to Sheffield with her fiancé but is struggling to find work. When she accepts a mysterious job as a PA to a celebrity, she really has no idea what she’s letting herself in for!

I loved Fran’s character, the plot and everything about this book. Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Collins and the author for the chance to review.

On a Night Like This is Lindsey Kelk’s latest contemporary romance. In my eyes Lindsey can do no wrong and she’s nailed it again with this glitzy, Christmassy number.

Fran’s a bit stuck in life. Her 12 year old relationship is in a slump and her temping PA jobs are no where near as exciting as they once were when she lived in London. After a call from an old colleague she makes the spur of the moment decisions to get some of her old life back and before she knows it she’s on a super yacht in the Med with a super celeb. The story follows Fran as she tries to keep Juliette in check, comes to terms with her relationship status and meets a handsome stranger and the famous Crystal Ball.

So I’ve loved Lindsey’s writing since I first read I Heart New York. I love her writing style and the fab wit and sense of humour that’s so well written into all of her books. On a Night Like This was no different. Lots of great one liners, funny comments and shrewd observations from Fran. It always makes me feel a greater connection to the character as they end up feeling like an old friend.

Fran is a bit like her I Heart New York counterpart Angela in that mishaps can’t help themselves but happen to her and they certainly do throughout the story. Fran is at a real turning point and there’s a lot of self discovery for her in this story.

This was a great read to live vicariously through between the high life on the boat and the glamorous party however it has a real down to earth character thrown in. I couldn’t put it down and I’m sure you’ll fly through it too.

On a Night Like This by Lindsey Kelk has an unusual story arc for its genre. Unusual, but not unpleasing. Francesca, a self-employed temping PA, makes a spur of the moment decision to accept a short-term job. She knows two things: she must sign a non-disclosure agreement, and her fiance will be infuriated. But Fran, for once, decides to do what feels right for her. This contemporary romance then turns into a fantastic fairy-tale set on board a luxury yacht and at an exclusive ball in Italy. That part ends, as it must, with a hurried departure from both ball and Prince Charming. the third part of the novel is set once again in Sheffield , in a recognisable life, and sees Fran setting about making the changes she knows she must.

The book is funny and poignant and wish-fulfilling. It doesn't take itself too seriously and, just when the fantasy seems to have gone too far, the author pulls the reader back into reality with a bump. I thoroughly enjoyed it all.

On A Night Like This
Oh my wow!! This book! Fran is in a bit of a pickle when she takes an unusual job as assistant to a mystery celeb. A chance to escape is just what she needs. How bad could it be? This story is just lovely. Fran is such a nice character, and the predicaments she finds her self in are nothing short of laugh out loud funny. Her new job finds her attending the prestigious Crystal Ball - getting a taste of how the other half live. It’s a decadent, glittering setting, and this story had me hooked straight away. Lindsey’s humour is right up my street and I finished this book within a day…admittedly staying up most of the night to finish it. Probably my favourite of Lindsey’s books so far. A solid and very rare 5 stars!

I really enjoyed this book. I haven't read anything by Kelk for many years - I think the last time was reading the Heart series during my teens, a good 15+ years ago. However I was glad to see her writing style hasn't changed over the years! On A Night Like This was fun, flirty and fantastic! Would definitely recommend!

Funny yet bittersweet insight into the life that many people have. It’s hard to recognise that people often put their own dreams aside to accommodate the needs of others… and Fran is one of those. She accepts an unusual and secretive job for five days… alarm bells would have been ringing for me… and it changes her life. Sometimes a change is just the push that we need! I really enjoyed this book.

Lindsey Kelk writes a lovely escapist rom-com, a contemporary version of Cinderella, a light, warm and fun delight of a novel. 32 year old Francesca Cooper is engaged, she has been with boyfriend Stew for 12 years since university, leaving behind her beloved London to move with him to Sheffield when he inherited his nanna's house. Fran is a temp out of choice, she prides herself on being an efficient assistant, but in the run up to Christmas she is out of work and feeling anxious. When best friend Jess tells her to think out of the box, she gets in touch with an old contact who tells there is an assistant job that will last 5 days, a job that Fran would be perfect for, but she has to sign an NDA agreement prior to the London interview. Despite having promised Stew she would not take jobs that took her away from home, Fran jumps at the opportunity, and finds herself working for the famous celebrity singer, Juliette.

To her surprise she is making her way to Italy and then boarding a billionaire's yacht, The Songbird, making its way to the island of Panarea in the Mediterranean. Juliette is set to perform at the exclusive Crystal Ball, and it's Fran's job to make sure that nothing derails this purpose. This turns out to be easier said than done, Juliette turns out to be nothing like Fran expected, she is friendly and not the difficult diva that she has a reputation for being. However, for the first time Fran struggles to fulfill her responsibilities as she fails to stop Juliette's drinking. After a drunken night in which she gets completely plastered with Juliette, she wakes up to find an unco-operative Juliette declaring that she has no intention of honouring her obligation to sing at the Ball. Stranded on Panarea, Fran uncharacteristally gatecrashes the Crystal Ball in a beautiful designer gown and trainers, experiencing a night to remember when she meets the unforgettably charming Evan.

The romance elements of the novel play a minor role in this entertaining modern day fairytale, this is more about the self effacing Fran, with a talent for fading into the background, sacrificing who she is and her needs, to support Stew and others around her. With input from Juliette and Evan, Fran's world, as she knows it, begins to painfully collapse around her as she faces up to the hard and testing challenges in her path. She can no longer ignore the holes in her relationship with Stew, but as she readjusts her life so that it reflects who she is, she is blessed to be supported by the irrepressible Jess, and has gained a job that makes her happy as she gears up to the first Christmas celebrations in a long time that bring joy into her life. This is a feel good read to pick up when you want a much needed lift in your life and is the perfect read in the run up to the festive season. Many thanks to the publisher for an ARC.

A good read- the descriptions of the ball seem somewhat far fetched but maybe just not the circles I run in! Characters were likable except Stew.... Not having read any previous books by this author I will look for others to try

There's something about Lindsey's books that feel comforting so it's no surprise that I loved this. Fran was very similar to Angela from the I Heart series so I did struggle to separate the two in my mind, but I didn't mind so much because I loved Angela's dippy, quirky personality and her adventures - so seeing that reflected in Fran was comforting and helped me ease into the story quickly.
Despite the fact that I've been in a reading slump lately, I devoured the majority of this book in one sitting. I loved the friendships Fran made, I loved Fran in general and I had a great time reading this.
