This was a great read from Lindsey Kelk and I really enjoyed it. It was a Cinderella story for the modern generation.

You know when the perfect book just turns up at the right moment? Well this is that book. It’s pure escapism. The characters are brilliantly written, it’s glitzy & glamorous yet down to earth & believable, and it’s really funny too! I absolutely loved it.

A funny, warm, easy to read fairytale story that will leave you feeling like you have had a big hug.
Fran is struggling with her relationship with Stew and he is very unhappy when she lands a PA interview in London for a top secret job.
After signing a no disclosure form, Fran finds herself on a luxurious yatcht as PA to juliette, a top singer. Frans job is for 5 days and is to ensure that Juliette makes it to perform at the prestigious ball of balls, attended only by the rich and famous. What could possibly go wrong......
Fran and Juliette have a fun filled, drunken bonding evening the night before they are due to dock. However, the next day, heavily hungover, Fran finds herself stranded in Italy, whilst shopping for Juliette. The yatcht has sailed, with Juliette on board, and Fran left behind.
Fran finds herself immediately sacked and has to wait until she can be picked up. Following a rash decision and the use of a ball gown, Fran finds herself gatecrashing the magnificent ball. Here she meets the very handsome Evan, who becomes her escort for the night....with the promise of no questions asked as to who they both are. Can fran keep the last couple of days a secret, who is the handsome Evan, and what wiill happen when she finally arrives home.
A magical tale, well worth a read.

This story certainly was a spellbinding story with a touch of magic about it. I loved this story, it was one of those books that I got into straight away and didn't want to put down. It was really funny at times and so sweet, with great characters and a wonderful storyline, it was a really magical story.
I really liked Fran, she was great. I loved her humour and her perseverance, she is delightful, definitely best friend material. I loved her interactions with the other characters, and how she found herself as the story went along. I loved her disasters too, she really had a knack for getting in trouble. Sprinkled with a wonderful cast of characters, some I loved and some I wanted to slap, but who all came together to make this story truly wonderful.
This is such a heartwarming story, taking Fran from the lows of her relationship to the highs...and disasters of the Crystal Ball. I was swept away along with her and enjoyed every minute. This is the sort of story you want to read when you have a bit of time to curl up and truly enjoy it because you won't want to put it down before the end. It is definitely a must-read story.

This book is so funny, so glamorous, so unglamorous, so tender - a treat to read. I loved Fran, leaving behind a boring relationship to take a temping job with a very demanding and unpleasant famous female celebrity on a yacht, heading for a huge celebrity ‘Crystal Ball’ on an Italian island. Fran manages, in her own lovely way to cope with everything that’s thrown at her - and also gate crashes the ball.
Of course there’s a rich (everyone at the ball is rich except poverty stricken Fran) handsome man there to rescue her from the crazy situation, but their lives are so different that this can only be for tonight, but you can’t help hoping for a happy ending.
Every character was brilliantly written and although I usually only read a book once, I will definitely read this again in a little while.
Meanwhile I’m going to read everything I can find by Lindsey Kelk

I was thrilled to be chosen to read the latest book from Lindsey Kelk after loving all her previous work. This book did not disappoint at all.
Fran lives with Stew in his nanas house in Sheffield, while once an executive assistant travelling the world she is now contemplating her future with Stew keen for her to become a teacher.
However when offered a week working in London on a top secret assignment Fran finds herself reassessing her life.
Loved this book and read it over two days. Such an incredible ending and has left me hoping for additional books following Frans new path!

Fran us stuck in a rut, her relationship is past its best and she is flitting from one job to the next until the opportunity to assist a secret celebrity arises. Fran is jet propelled into a situation she couldn't imagine beyond her wildest dreams! A fab, fun, frivolous read, thanks to netgalley for the advance copy.

I bloomin loved this one, great read, started and finished the same day - couldn't put it down. Yes, a modern day fairytale that made me laugh out loud. Another great book from Lindsey Kelk -thank you

Great escapist story!
I really enjoyed this tale about Fran, a girl with a lot on her plate who decides, on a whim, to take a short-term temping job without really knowing much about it as it is all hush-hush and she is sworn to secrecy.
It turns out that she is to be working as an assistant to an extremely well-known fictional celebrity and finds herself on a swanky yacht swanning off to warmer climes.
Normally I might find this sort of scenario a bit far-fetched, but the story is told in a light, engaging and entertaining way and I felt some empathy with the main character, Fran. This is a funny, feel-good story, just right for a spot of escapism.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this ARC.
This is my first read by this author and if this book is anything to go by, it won’t be my last. I thoroughly enjoyed this book which was such a joy to read. I really liked the main character and could picture a lot of the scenes in my head when reading. I thought this was such a beautifully written book, although I felt it started off slowly it soon picked up pace. It flowed really well and was a very entertaining read, full of lots of humour and I had many laugh out loud moments. Whilst the romance element didn’t come into the story until nearly half way through it didn't take anything away from what I can only describe as a funny, uplifting, feel good and romantic read. I will definitely be looking at the authors other books at some point. Overall a lovely, light hearted romantic read which I really enjoyed.

This was a pleasant read. It started a bit slow and some of the descriptions felt clumsy and overblown, but once you got into the body of the book it flowed nicely.
A modern Cinderella tale but one where ultimately the heroine chooses to save herself. At times I wanted to shake the lead character but ultimately she comes through and you're cheering for her in the end.
A new author for me but one I would be happy to read more from.
My thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this book honestly.

First time reading this author and I was not disappointed, I absolutely loved this book, loved the characters and the storyline was brilliant
Loved the idea of the ball and all the rich and famous people who attend, really could not put this book down once I had started, it was fantastic

I’ve really enjoyed previous books by Lindsey Kelk, and so when I saw she had a new one coming out in November 2021, I asked for an ARC from NetGalley and my wish was granted. Here’s the blurb:
“Within days of wishing she could change her life, Fran Cooper is acting assistant to a celebrity, on a yacht in the Mediterranean, and en route to a tiny Italian island and the glittering Crystal Ball, along with the world’s rich and famous.
When she – quite literally – bumps into a handsome American called Evan, a man able to keep his cool in the face of chaos, the magic really begins.
Evan makes her a promise: no last names, no life stories, just one unforgettable night. Yet Evan belongs at the Crystal Ball and Fran is a gatecrasher. They may be soulmates, but their homes are an ocean apart, and their lives a world apart. They’ll never meet again – unless, on a night like this, everything can change forever…”
The book starts with Fran in Sheffield – where she’s got no job and is in a seemingly very boring relationship with her uni boyfriend, and now fiancée, Stew. You know ‘something’ happened which made them move back from London up North – but you don’t know what, it’s just obvious Fran feels very guilty about it all. Initially I thought Stew was just a wet blanket – but as the book went on it became more evident that actually he was horribly controlling and emotionally abusive – but back to the beginning of the book!
Fran is an experienced and competent PA who has been temping for ages but is currently between jobs. Her fiancée reckons she should retrain as a primary school teacher – but Fran isn’t so sure. She’s then offered a mysterious job for a few days to be PA to celebrity.
We then jump on the train, plane and yacht to follow Fran and her new celebrity boss. (In my head the celeb in question was essentially Anne-Marie but probably more high maintenance, not knowing how high maintenance Anne-Marie is in real life!)
I loved the different settings – especially the yacht and the incredibly glamourous Crystal Ball. They were described brilliantly and you really felt like you were there. At the moment – with the lack of foreign travel – living vicariously the different locations through fiction books is even more welcome than usual!
All of the characters were well written – and you liked or disliked them accordingly. A random favourite character was the make up artist who changed the course of Fran’s life completely – she was ace!
I have to say that I guessed who the mysterious Evan was fairly early doors – but that didn’t stop me enjoying the book (it just made me feel quite smug when I was proved right!!)
I had a horrible thought that the book would be left open ended – and don’t get me wrong, there’s loads I’d like to know about what happened once it finished – but lots of loose ends were tied up in a brilliant way.
A really fun read – I’d definitely recommend it. It would also make a great film with all of the amazing locations – and who doesn’t love a film fundamentally set in Sheffield?!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my ARC in return for an honest review.

a wonderful romance story.
francesca lives on auto-pilot until a series of events leads her to question her life and her relationship.
a perfect, heartwarming romance story waiting to be devoured.

Aaaaand she does it again! I love everything Lindsey Kelk has ever written. She never loses her unique wit, sparkle and penchant for epic one-liners. She manages to ALWAYS dream up characters who I just want to be best friends with (Fran AND Juliette!) This story *could* come across as cheesy but it never does! It's cool and fresh and kitsch and laugh-out-loud hilarious in parts. It's not predictable, Evan is a DREAM and the awkward encounters are brilliantly written. I still adore Angela from the 'I Heart...' series but Fran has fast become one of my favourite protagonists. Please keep writing Ms Kelk!
Thank you to Netgalley, Lindsey Kelk and the publishers for this ARC in return for a fair and honest review. A well deserved 5 stars!

Lindsey Kelk is an author I've only read one previous book before, but after reading On a Night Like This, I will definitely be reading more!
Fran Cooper accepts a mystery temping role to work as an assistant for an unknown client. Turns out her new employer is world superstar Juliette. Travelling to Italy on a luxury yacht she finds herself attending the coveted Crystal Ball. Re-assessing her life - professionally and personally in the process.
Great wee book, very easy to read and follow. Proper escapism!! Lovely rounded ending too!

Within days of wishing she could change her life, Fran Cooper is leaving rainy England to become acting assistant to a famous singer, on a yacht in the Mediterranean. Their destination is a tiny Italian island that’s hosting the biggest celebrity gala of the season—the Crystal Ball.
This is a great story naturally with some hilarious lumps and bumps along the way). It will have you laughing out loud the entire way through. Highly recommended!

I've already read books by Lindsey Kelk and loved them so I was very excited to read On a Night Like This. And I enjoyed it very much! It's a modern fairytale, very well written with great characters. The romance starts quite late in the book so I wasn't sure how the story would go but it gave me all the feels. Heartwarming and cosy read, perfect escape from the current world situation.
Thank you to the publisher who provided me with an e-copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

For me this book had it all. Great characters, beautiful locations and laugh out loud moments. I loved Fran who was stuck in a dead end relationship with controlling Stew. The fun begins when she accepts a five day PA role ending up aboard the luxury yacht, Songbird, and working for a celebrity called Juliette. The role is to keep Juliette sober and accompany her to the Crystal Ball where she will perform but instead Fran ends up stranded in Italy when the Songbird sails off without her.
Fran ends up gate crashing the Ball totally out of place amongst the rich and famous until she meets Evan, who offers to show her around. I enjoyed life aboard the Songbird but the icing on the cake was the Crystal Ball, a night Fran will never forget.

Loved this story! It was warm, witty, funny and just an easy, enjoyable read. I tend to read very quickly and often just skim the pages but, with this book, I had to keep reminding myself to slow down and read every word as I was missing out on a lot of it’s more subtle humour.
Fran is already in a relationship but is feeling unfulfilled. She finds herself, in the most hilarious and far fetched of circumstances, at the world’s most glamorous ball surrounded by the glitterati. She meets the man of her dreams and the up and downs of the relationship which develops between them ticks every one of my boxes. It’s sweet, romantic and the ending brought a smile to my face….what’s not to love?!
Thanks to the publishers and to Netgalley for the opportunity to enjoy this book.
