(3.5/5) A cute little story about a monster that is very small. I picked up this one, because when my 3yo was younger he was tiny due to a struggle with food allergies. I thought this might have a good message that all sizes are equally wonderful. So, I thought it was a little strange when Millie grows to be as big as everyone else in the end. Although the illustrations were adorable, I wasn't a huge fan of the all caps font. But my 5yo said he liked it "a whole lot" and this was his 3rd favorite out of the 4 new books we read today. Thanks to BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for the free ARC!
Millie the Monster is a lovely story which explains to children that they do not have to grow up quickly and they should just enjoy being young. Myself and my 4 year old son loved it.
Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for my ARC.
I enjoyed it until the ending. It was very cute and I loved the illustrations but message of accepting yourself as you are was undermined by the fact that Millie does grow and ends up "normal" after realizing that being small can be a good thing.
This is a charming little book. The rhymes are fun to read aloud. My four year old also loved the bright illustrations.
The illustrations were my favorite part of the book. The all caps text was a bit of a distraction. While I think this would be a good addition to many public library collections because of its body positivity message, my libraryโs book budget is small and I wouldnโt take a chance that this story would appeal to enough readers.
Millie the monster is very cute but dinky! She was feeling so sad that she was small and everyone else was bigger than her. But she learnt that being small is actually really helpful sometimes and with a bit of patience she did actually grow! This is a cute story and I think children would love it. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book.
4.5 Stars
Oh, my! Isnโt this super cute? Millie is a wee little monster and small as a mouse. Now, being such a teeny thing is no fun when everyone around is so tall, right? Millie feels the same and shares her sad adventures until she helps her big brother find something he could never have because of his height.
Millie realizes she should be happy in her own skin and enjoy life the way it is. Just is an important lesson for kids to accept themselves and be comfortable about who they are. The story is presented in rhyming verses and has a cheerful tone. The illustrations are colorful and cute.
This is a good book for little ones to read, enjoy, and learn a valuable life lesson.
Thank you, NetGalley and BooksGoSocial, for the ARC.
Thank you NetGalley and Una O'Sullivan for a copy of "Millie the Monster" in exchange for my honest review.
Millie is a monster who is not scary and loves to make new friends. Millie is upset that she isn't growing as fast as her brothers. She can't reach the middle shelf. She can't turn lights on by herself. She can't even hang a picture on the wall. She feels left out. Her arms and legs are way too small. Clothes are always made for the long and lean, big and tall, never the mini size. She feels not bigger than a mouse.
Then she realizes that she can see things that her tall brothers can't. She decides she will not moan about her height and measure every herself every night.
This book can help parents and educators show children that they should be the best "me" they can be.
Millie the Monster was really small
There wasn't much of her at all!
Tiny Millie doesn't want to be small. She wants to be as big as the other monsters, do things independently, and not be treated like a much younger little monster. She wants to GROW! But then one day she realises the value of being the just-right size for her.
Gorgeously illustrated, this story is told in verse, and can be enjoyed either as a read-aloud book to preschoolers, or independently, by early readers. Young children will relate to Millie as she goes unheard or overlooked, and the message of being happy with who you are, and that there is a time and place for everything, is gently given.
Lovely little book. I can't wait to share it with my own not-so-little one.

Such a cute and sweet book about a monster called Millie. This was a cute rhythm book that would be perfect for kids, the pictures were also really sweet and so adorable to look at. Loved the story and how heartwarming it was.
Thanks to Netgalley for this EArc in exchange for an honest review.

This delightful story is full of wonderful illustrations that are bright, bold and fun. They are sure to capture its young audiences attention and compliment the story fabulously.
The story involves Millie the Monster who is a cute and tiny little monster. While everyone around her has grown tall, she remains small until eventually, after years of waiting, she begins to grow! Children are able to follow Millie and the struggles she faces from being so small. It is told over 37 pages in short text, meaning it should hold the children's attention from beginning to end. It uses a lot of describing and action words which children will benefit from, helping to expand their vocabulary and boost their learning.
A fab little story that children are sure to enjoy.
**I received an advanced copy of this ebook to read and review. Thank you NetGalley, the author and publisher for allowing me this opportunity**
I really liked Mollie she is really cute.
And the perspective from a small person is really good done. I also like that it's a really positive book. A really good massage for children I would deffinitly read it to my child.
A great rhyming book with simple but effective pictures. I enjoyed the rhyming nature and how being little helped Millie help her brother. I am not sure how necessary it was for Millie to grow at the end.
I liked the font choice and how the background was white so it was easy to read. I absolutely loved the picture of Millie at the end of the book even though this was a little Millie.
Cute, colorful story about a monster who is smaller than everyone else told in a playful, rhyming voice.
Millie was adorablely rendered and the colors vibrant.
The world was confusing. Some of the characters looked like humans, some monsters. The world, such as the clothes, looked just like the human world. I would've enjoyed a slightly-odd, colorful monster world.
I would've liked Millie to stay small, to be okay with being different. Children need stories that accept what's different about them. I liked how she learned how to see from her own perspective. I think that was powerful: her struggle to find her voice and value. I think her staying different could've been a strong tale for those with disabilities.
I read it to my six year old daughter. She liked how Millie was kind and helped her brother.
Millie doesn't like that she is small. Everyone around her is tall, including her brothers. Day after day she struggles with not being seen, clothes that don't fit, or treated like a child because of her small size. Then one day her brother needs help and she realizes that being small isn't so bad after all. This is an adorable story of a monster attempting to fit in with everyone else when she should embrace the person she is. I wish there would have been more examples of other things she did to appreciate her size instead of the one thing to help her brother. Overall this is a cute, rhyming story with colorful illustrations.
Thank you Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for the opportunity to read this book.
Millie is smaller than all the other monsters who have grown as tall as trees. Millie is upset about her height and keeps hoping that she'll grow. Does Millie learn to accept who she is?
A Beautiful rhyming book about accepting yourself for who you are. Would definitely recommend it to all my students

This was a delightful read that left me feeling all warm and fuzzy. What seems like a simple children's book at a glance is actually a wonderful story with plenty of meaningful lessons such as:
- Learning to accept and love ourselves for who we are
- Everyone grows at their own pace
- We all have our own strengths
- Don't compare your prologue to someone's epilogue
- Don't rush to grow up
The illustrations were super cute! I also enjoyed the rhymes as they flowed and sounded very natural.
Absolutely heartwarming! I loved this. Canโt wait to read for my students during class. It has a beautiful message of accepting yourself and the illustrations are so cute.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the e-ARC!
This is a charming story of wanting what you donโt have and then seeing the positive in what you have.
The illustrations of Millie and the monsters around her are charming and engaging.
The story has a positive message, well told and my 3 year old liked the story but possibly more appropriate for slightly older readers.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for gifting me this arc in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
