While I try to stay positive for all of my reviews, it was harder to with this title. The humor was just offensive, and un-funny. I found myself skipping over parts and almost just scanning the words without processing them. There was no story or character development which made the story stale. This book was certainly not for me, and I will refrain from recommending it to others.

I just don't know it kind of hated it but kind of liked it. Those guys were a bunch of assholes. But there was a lot of humor in it as well. and the way the last couple holes ended was so funny.

Yeah, this book clearly was not for me. I just didn't think the blatant racism, downright pedophilia and the way the main characters talked about women like they were "just pussy" was funny AT ALL. I read the whole thing in hopes that it would eventually get better, but I should've DNFed it and saved my time to read something else.

Assholes is a graphic novel by Bram Algoed and Micah Stahl that follows 2 awful people while they golf.

The art was ok but story was repetitive and not for me.

Thanks to NetGalley and Europe Comics for the ARC.

This really wasn't for me, perhaps the first "miss" I've seen from Europe Comics so far. Mean spirited humor really isn't my thing and getting through this was sort of an endurance test for me. It's well-written and I'm sure others would love it, but I will refrain from saying any more.

Whoa - this was a rough read. I appreciate the scathing commentary but it was hard to get through. Just when I decided one guy was more despicable, the other one chimed in with something obscenely offensive. I always like mocking guys like this, and this was a dark journey down that path.

I'm not sure that I'm the right audience for this comic. At times it was funny, but it mostly just cringe-worthy and inappropriate in a bad way. Obviously the title of the book is Assholes and you know the characters are going to be the worst, but I wasn't expecting the racism, misogyny, and elitism. It was funny at times for sure but mostly annoying.

Quite disturbed about the note in chapter 9! But overall an enjoyable satirical graphic novel, but the characters are quite infuriatingly sexist for my liking.

Assholes is a graphic novel by Micah Stahl with illustrations by Bram Algoed that follows two TV show hosts-- Atkins and Simon Kennedy while they golf. The structure and color schemes throughout the book are cohesive aesthetically, but where the book excels in visual it lacks in plot. The humor presented is in poor taste, sexualizing women in unbalanced power dynamics and taking advantage of women in that sense as well. Through a political lens, one might even argue that the book is reminiscent of President Trump-- an avid golfer and pro "locker-room" talker, and this book could be a play on that. Another negative aspect to the novel was its use of foul language (e.g. N-word and LGBTQ-unfriendly terms) and the characters' sentiments behind it as well.

All in all, the book receives a 0 for plot development, a 3 for illustration, and a 1 overall with higher weight on the former. It is an incredibly vulgar read, and I do not recommend it to anyone whatsoever.

The story was hilarious and offensive but the artwork wasn't for me. Two infatuated TV play a friendly game of golf and chaos ensues.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this book in exchange for an honest review.
Well, this really wasn't funny and after about hole 6, I was ready to beat them with their own golf clubs. I don't have anything good to say about this graphic novel.

Just a little too odd for me, but still kinda funny.

Really like the illustrations, it's funny and i like how in some pages you can see handmade painted backgrounds. I like the page layouts but feel like there was a lot going on per page, I didn´t know where to look. Not a really memorable story but itps fun :)

#netgalley, thank you for giving me the opportunity to read this book and share my thoughts.
If I'm perfectly honest, I did not like this book at all. Maybe it's because I'm not a man. Maybe it's because I'm not much of a golfer. I know enough about golfing that I thought I would enjoy it because I like comic strips but it's just kind of crude and feels like the whole book is an inside joke no one else will give it the writer and whoever the hell he golfs with.
I will be generous and give him an extra star on account of the fair chance that the humor just wasn't my kind of humor.

Well, this is quite the story. It is the story of two egocentric golfers and the story over the 18 holes is a rather, graphic, no holds barred escapade. It tells the story of two television stars and their relationship and their friendship and their fights and their insults and their revenge on each other and it is a wild and fun ride. I don't play gold, but I imagine that this is the most raucous golf game in history. It was fun, albeit a bit salty. It made me laugh.

Well, not what i was expecting when i read the title. It was a little funny but mostly i was thinking is this really what men think when they golf? I feel back for the mascot and kinda curious on Hole 9!!! However i did like the way the comic art was, reminded me of the older comics which was nice.

Assholes by Bram Algoed, with illustrations by Micah Stahl, follows Chuck Atkins and Simon Kennedy, two TV show hosts. There is a really nice cohesive color-scheme and creative visual pacing throughout. At times, the minimal text made it hard to follow the story, but careful "reading" of the illustrations at these points helped. Chuck and Simon, the "assholes," are meant to be shallow, crude celebrities, and most of the comic is their banter back and forth throughout the game. Their misogyny and bigotry were more vile and hard to get through than amusing or funny (i.e. harassing a young girl and her mother with sexual comments).

Assholes was published April 2021. I received a complementary e-ARC from Net Galley for my honest review.

Two assholes (one of them obviously Trump) play golf. It really is that straightforward. Not to mention horribly boring, repetitive, predictable, and very unfunny. Mediocre art, unengaging scenes - this was an awful comic from conception to execution. A pointless waste of time.

Well.... the title says it all! A funny, enjoyable comic book about two, debatably horrible, contemporaries chopping it up on the golf course. I wish this wasn't an accurate portrayal of country club culture, but it sure is.

If not for the good illustrations and the color scheme, I probably would have DNFed the book. It's about two game show hosts who are having a day at the golf course. Both are rich and misogynist. While I would try to find the humor in it, unfortunately this book just didn't make the cut.
