Your daughter is kidnapped.
Twenty three years pass and she’s still not been found
Then you get the hope that she is still alive
A great book
A real page turner
Thanks NetGalley
This is the first book I read from this author and it really kept me at the edge of my seat. The characters are well developed and believable, the plot is well structured and the twists unexpected. A true page-turner. I can’t wait for her next book.
She's Mine by A.A. Chaudhuri is the first book I have read from this new author and I loved it. It was a cracking read from the very first page till the last page with lots of twists and turns throughout, especially with a fantastic ending!!!
I highly recommend this book and I will be reading more books by this author.
A tense and gripping psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Each chapter is told from a different characters perspective with entry of twists and turns.
This is literally what all of my nightmares are made of so thank you A.A. Chaudhuri for bring that to life. I actually found out I was pregnant right before reading this book so it really just shook me to my core. Well done.
Wow! What a book. I’m not sure that any review I write will do this book justice but if you enjoy a psychological thriller, this is one you definitely have to read.
There is a huge cast of characters that we hear from. The multiple perspectives really help to propel the story line but also get under the skin and into the heads of so many of the friends, family and lovers entwined in this story that it really ensures the psychological element is strong.
Each chapter moves to a different person’s perspective, and there is also a clear timeline of “before” and “now” which adds to the character development, the plot and the tension within the story. Each of the chapters are brief, which just ramps up the pace of this already gripping read even further, and some of the chapters’ ends provide such cracking cliffhangers it becomes simply impossible to put this book down.
My favourite element of the story which I found completely original is that most of the characters addressed a “you” in their first person narrative. Sometimes it was abundantly clear that they were speaking to Chrissy, who is arguably the main character in this story, though obviously Heidi (her daughter’s) absence carries a heavy weight throughout the book. Sometimes though, you had no idea who the “you” was and this becomes even more complicated when the family start receiving nasty anonymous letters and emails! I was just absolutely hooked.
This is a perfectly pitched and paced twisty and gripping thriller that stands out from the crowded market due to A A Chaudhuri’s excellent and original style, and her ability to create a whole cast of characters that get far inside your head. I would definitely recommend this book to fans of Lisa Jewell and C L Taylor, who just happen to be two of my favourite authors in this genre!
I found this one to draw you in very fast. It's told in multiple perspectives, which has me questioning all of them throughout it all. The short chapters and intense storyline keeps it very fast-paced. The characters all have different stories, lies, and secrets that keep you captivated.
I wasn't a huge fan of the main character, but you will see why once you read it. Each character takes turn narrating, and it's hard to tell who you can trust or believe.
She's Mine by A.A. Chaudhuri is a psychological thriller and a good one. I pride myself on sussing out the ending before I get there. Chaudhuri recognizes that readers do that and thwarts them at every turn. Multiple times during the book I thought I saw things coming, only to be wrong about it. The ending snuck up on me. This book was so carefully planned that there was nothing but surprises. Written from multiple points of view so carefully that the reader couldn't see it coming. It some parts it was so sad. . . so many innocent people hurt. Nor normally my kind of book, but this one is a winner.
Christine and Greg had a daughter, Heidi, that was kidnapped when she was two years old. Christine had been in a department story, talking on her cell phone, wandering for better reception. When she noticed, Heidi was gone. The book mostly takes place over 20 years later and draws the heartbreak of a broken marriage, the damage done to the two children who had been raised by a mother who could show them no love, unable to take another chance with her heart, and broken friendships. It was heart-breaking to read, not knowing for sure where it was going. Such a good book!
I was invited to read a free e-ARC of She's Mine by Herabooks, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #netgalley #shesmine #herabooks
This was a pretty freaking amazing read! I thought it was predictable, only to be completely shocked! Fast paced, intense, well written, and unputdownable! Highly recommend this twisty tale!
I adored A. A. Chaudhuri’s The Scribe and The Abduction (Detective/Crime series) so I jumped at the chance to read and review ‘She’s Mine’ for the tour. I was excited to read a different genre by this author and I must say, she didn’t disappoint and showed that A. A. Chaudhuri is a mutli-genre genius!
She’s Mine is mainly narrated in first person by different narrators but more so by Christine, who took her eye off the ball which led to her toddler daughter being abducted. All the chapters are short and drip feed snippets of information to the reader so the intensity builds quickly with each one.
On the outside, and in the perception of others, Christine has it all but inside she fell apart the day her daughter Heidi was taken twenty three years ago. Chaudhuri creates a brilliant character in Christine and portrays a mother’s anguish, turmoil and guilt so well and despite her own failures, she definitely did not deserve the torture she put herself through for that time. My heart went out to her. This definitely tapped into my motherhood and preyed on that terrifying thought of losing a child and worse, never knowing what happened.
Once Christine receives a note indicating that Heidi is alive, she is led down a path she could never have imagined. The plot really digs deep into the human mind and the terrible things that we are capable of. It takes the worst traits we possess as humans and brings them to light. Along with the multi narration this really brings each character to life.
This is not a light-hearted or heart-warming read. It’s chilling and dark but compulsively addictive and impossible to let go of after the final pages. It contains some dark themes to create a twisted and depraved plot. If you like very dark, twisty thrillers then I highly recommend.
A.A. Chaudhuri's debut psychological thriller with Hera books is a twisted exploration of every parent's worst fear - losing a child. Christine was only distracted for a minute when her toddler was taken, yet the reverberations last a lifetime. Chaudhuri shows us a family torn asunder, buckling under the weight of their secrets and lies. Her skilful use of first-person narrative, from various points of view, makes for an unusually intimate reading experience, as we are drawn into the lives of her characters. I found the prologue particularly chilling. "She's Mine" is a deliciously dark and compelling read.
This book was creepy for me but I enjoyed it throughout. It captured my attention the beginning and I was intrigued throughout. Good read!
What an unexpected thriller!!
Christine Donovan has been living with guilt--because of her neglect and a secret love affair, she lost her own daughter Heidi. Now many years later, her marriage to her husband is strained, her two children she had with her husband Greg seemed to be hating her...and she got a confirmation that Heidi was very much alive.
Initially, the story started out a bit slow and multiple characters have given their perspectives--we read from the points of views of Christine, Miranda and Greg and a woman named Heidi. who happened to be Christine's daughter. so to be honest it was a bit confusing at first. However, the unexpected twist and turn that was revealed in the ending was so good! I did not expect that type of ending! The writing was good, and the author did a good job of drawing the reader! The characters however are not likable in my opinion, particularly Christine's character but nevertheless it was actually a good thriller!
This book worth four stars! Many thanks to Netgalley and Hera for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.
Utterly twisted and dark beyond my wildest dreams but also strangely compelling. A real tangle of families, relationships, friendships and affairs and an abducted child thrown into that mix which causes deep psychological trauma for the parents which is long lasting and far reaching.
A times this is so incredible and far fetched that I took a bit of a step back and said really!?! but the overall effect is a deliciously tangled and fast paced ride that doesn’t hold back and leaves you reeling. It reaches a big crescendo and just when you think there can be no more surprises then a few more epic ones are unleashed. Definitely recommend this if you’re open minded and willing to go with the flow (actually more of a raging torrent). Enjoy.
I’d like to thank Hera Books and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘She’s Mine’ written by A A Chaudhuri in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Twenty-three years ago Christine and Greg’s two-year-old daughter Heidi disappeared and was never found, and although she was persuaded to have more children to compensate she’s never been able to give Ella and Daniel the love she had for Heidi so likewise they’ve never had any affection for her. Back to the present time, a letter is delivered to Christine’s home saying that Heidi is still alive. Will she finally find her daughter and discover why she was taken and by whom?
For a debut novel ‘She’s Mine’ has been well-written although the style of her writing isn’t one I particularly like, and whilst it has an interesting storyline I really hated the characters who I thought were horrible, particularly Christine who was a cheating liar, nasty, inconsiderate, uncaring and self-absorbed, in fact I couldn’t find one redeeming feature. The story started at a slow pace but despite improving the further I got, by that time it was too late to change my overall impression and increase my interest in Christine and Heidi and the outcome. From the beginning I guessed who’d taken Heidi and why but it was such a dark thriller that I found it uncomfortable to read and couldn’t wait to get to the end. I’m sorry I didn’t enjoy it and from the reviews lots of readers will disagree with me but that’s purely my opinion.
What an excellent read!
So well written, I found myself reading chapter after chapter not wanting to put it down.
Different characters with their own frailties and their own secrts mingling with the one lifechanging event that effected them all in different ways.
I thought all the twists and turns brilliantly conceived, each one drew a sharp intake of breath and the final so shocking it completely took me by surprise and floored me!
Will definately look out for more titles from this author.
I really enjoyed She's Mine. It kept me interested throughout and I couldn't put it down. All the twists and turns kept me guessing right up to the end.
Thank you to NetGalley and Hera Books for my ARC.
A narrative cast of 9, some with more to say than others but still a lot and needs to be read with full concentration, and even with that I found I had to sometimes think who was who, very clever though and well written, unusual seems a bib too basic a word to describe this book but it is very unusual to most I have read recently,I didn’t like the characters but then it probably wouldn’t work so well if they were likeable …….without doubt worth a read and would definitely read more from this author
I started to read this book in the morning, and had finished it by late afternoon!
Each chapter reveals a character's story, told either in the past or present day. The unveiling is very clever and keeps you waiting until the very end, to understand the twists and turns of this disturbing tale.
I would highly recommend this book.
This story is fairly unique in its premise of sharing a story from nine different perspectives.
The story is based around Chrissy, whose two year old daughter disappeared 22 years ago. Chrissy has understandably tortured herself since. But, 22 years later, it appears that someone else wants to torture Chrissy and we learn that she is not the person she pretends to be.
This was a reasonably good thriller, with usual suspense and twists, I would say that the many different perspectives offered throughout the book could be confusing.
