Great colourful book. Just enough detail to learn about who has been written about. Look forward to seeing who the next person will be.
It's so exciting to see this series continually expand and evolve. People of all ages should have access to inspirational stories. This book delicately deals with very important yet delicate topics and can help instil the values of acceptance and equality from a young age!
Such a beautiful series of children’s books. These books introduce children to some wonderfully inspirational people. They briefly delve into the past of some great people and show kids that if they dream big enough and work hard, they can be anything they want to be.
Another gem of a book from this series, thus particular one is a 'Baby edition' meaning it is broken down into very simple sentences and concepts, in order to introduce the subject to the youngest of listeners.
As usual, this one on Martin Luther King is gorgeously illustrated, with each scene depicted very clearly and interestingly. The writing is minimal, but the point still gets across on every page. It goes through the basics of his life, from childhood up but doesn't mention his unfortunate and untimely passing, which I feel is appropriate in the context of this being for young kids. Rather, it ends on a note of 'his work was never finished' which is true but also.an invitation to the reader to carry on the work as well. A lovely little book.
Martin Luther King, Jr. by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara is a book from the Little People, another fantastic book to join the other books by Big Dreams books. I just love these sweet little books. They're an introduction for young pre-school readers to learn about amazing, wonderful men and women that have our influenced the world today. I am so glad the covered Martin Luther King. This small book was told from his childhood. Sadly at this time, he had experienced much discrimination. Young readers alike, will learn how this impacted him as he moved to change things through peaceful protest.
This made a great impact around the world and Martin Luther King is talked and learned about today in schools. Sadly within this book there is no mention of his sad end of his life.
But, concentrates on his famous speech " I have a Dream" It's just an amazing book.
Big Thank you to netgalley and the Quarto Publishing Group for a free copy for an honest opinion.
I absolutely adore the Little People, Big Dreams series and this book, focusing on Martin Luther King Jr. did not disappoint. Filled with glorious illustrations, these texts are a fabulous springboard for classroom discussion. I love how they cover such a broad range of famous faces, from scientists to musicians.
Having previous enjoyed the Martin Luther King Jr. book, I was interested to see how the story had been simplified for the younger intended audience of this board book. I was very impressed: the story retains all of its important morals and still gives key details about this civil rights activist, but the text has been diluted. This makes it easier to read and understand for a younger audience. It still provides the opportunity for important discussion albeit in a more simplistic manner.
We will be adding this book to our bookshelf for Nursery and Reception children to access, but it would be equally helpful even for older readers. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.
Yet another fantastic book in this series!
The illustrations are engaging and the text gives just enough information, but I found that each page lead to lots of questions and discussions from my two children aged 6 and 10.
Would recommend to all.
This is the first book from the little people big dreams collection that I have read. I have to say I was very impressed. It was a little old for my son to enjoy however it was engaging and inspiring to read. I can imagine slightly older children loving this book and the series. Really well thought out and put together.
I have read a good majority of the books in this story and I truely love what they are doing in introducing the children to so many wonderful people in our history. This book I love, so much extra information that I did not know before about such a great historical figure.
I absolutely love these books, as you will see from my previous reviews.
This one I found ended a little abruptly and I felt it stopped right in the middle it the book - it wasn't until reading the reviews that I saw it's probably because this book was a baby edition.
I still enjoyed the book, but I prefer them slightly longer with more detail.
I have read many books within the Little People Big Dream series, and until this book I didn't realise there was a spin-off series of these books for even younger children - the 'my first' series.
This book was just as beautifully illustrated and as straight-to-the-point as the LPBD series.
Obviously this book is less than 15 pages, so not a great deal of detail can be within the pages. Despite being so short there is still so much to take from it. I can imagine children will start asking questions based on the points within the book and it will definitely encourage discussions.
I think it's such a wonderful idea, and such a wonderful book!
Once again the LPBD books have hit it out of the park! Fantastic!
I received an advance copy of, Martin Luther King Jr., by Maria Isabel Sanchez, Vegara. This is good book for kids to learn about, Martin Luther King.
This is a shorter book than the other books in the Little People, Big Dreams collection, as it is the Baby Edition, so the ending seemed a little abrupt to me. It is suitable for young children as it is easy to read and it has colourful graphics. The book covers the life of Martin Luther King from when he was young up until he gave his speech where he said "I have a dream". It is an interesting book which will inspire children to be more inclusive of others and show them that they should not be racist in their views.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and Net Galley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
