This was a really enjoyable listen and Molly was a great protagonist. The mystery aspect was fun, but it was the characters that really shone here, both the nefarious and the beneficent. The Regency Grand Hotel had all manner of goings on afoot, which was very entertaining and the whole reading experience left me feeling hopeful. Overall, a cozy and warm story that I would definitely recommend.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.

On the surface Molly is a young girl working as a maid at a local hotel, but scratch the surface and she's a wonderful character. I enjoyed the setting of the murder mystery in the hotel and the opportunities this lent to bring in various major and minor characters to the plot.

I raged at Molly's colleagues for treating her so appallingly, openly laughing and taking advantage of her neuro-diversity to their own nefarious gains and Rodney - the barman, ooh what a wrong un! I liked the almost slapstick elements of the dark comedy, with Molly unwittingly tidying up crime scenes in the hotel and the moments of mild peril that ensued when Molly experiencing high stress situations would faint.

The relationships that Molly develops following the loss of her beloved grandmother with colleagues at the hotel are endearing, Mr Preston, what a gent and clearly more to this story to be told in the following books. I look forward to seeing what is in store for Molly Maid and her friends

This book is so good at showing how people who are ‘different’ and those who are ‘invisible’ are treated by others! To a rage-inducing extent.

You can see quite quickly that Molly is getting herself mixed up in things she doesn’t understand, but by the end she proves herself to be bright and resilient, despite what others think of her.

Very good and I’ll be checking out the second book featuring Molly the Maid…

I really enjoyed this book. Nita Prose crafts Maud's character with sensitivity, highlighting her unique perspective and emotional depth. The writing is both witty and engaging, making it easy to get lost in the story. The hotel setting adds a charming backdrop, filled with eccentric characters and unexpected twists.

Overall, "The Maid" is a heartwarming and entertaining read that balances mystery with themes of belonging and self-acceptance. Perfect for fans of character-driven stories, it leaves readers both guessing and smiling until the very end.

4.25 stars
I loved this mystery book! Some say it's a cosy mystery but I think it's actually very high anxiety, extreme violence (talked about but never on the page) drug dealing and money laundering and murders!
This story stressed me out - especially when the story is told from Molly, the neuro divergent maid, as the reader can see exactly what is going on in real life versus the (autistic? Probably. it's not said)way she understands things.
How the mystery and truths are divulged is simply magical and I adored it

This was my first time reading a book from the author but I am delighted to say I thoroughly enjoyed the story and I look forward to reading more books from the writer in the future

I was really not a fan of this stilted narrative voice, unfortunately - I can understand it probably lends itself to the mystery but I just couldn't engage with it.

Although I was a bit dubious when I started reading The Maid, it became clear to me that I was reading about a unique, childlike character, who clearly has Asperger's. As someone who lives with two Aspie's I could read the signs right away, which made the character so much more endearing to me. However, I can see how someone not familiar with the syndrome might not warm to Molly's character.

A great story with an exceptionally different leading character and I hope there are more books to come featuring Molly.

I really enjoyed the character of Molly. I also enjoyed how this book was written. However, the ending fell flat for me

An intriguing whodunnit that is engaging, I liked Molly the main character but ultimately wanted a little more from the storytelling.

I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.

Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.

However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x

My review:⭐⭐⭐⭐

Molly is a maid in a 5 star hotel, and the story is told from her point of view.  She is also neuro-divergent, and so struggles to read social cues.

It is a really interesting insight into how hard the world is to negotiate when you don't understand social cues! The writing really works, and you can see through what Molly sees, to understand the context.

I found this to be a heart warming mystery, and I really enjoyed the ending.

I was given this book in exchange for an unbiased review, so my thanks to NetGalley and to HarperCollins.

Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience

An easy read on holiday. Another book with a female protagonist who may or may not be autistic to explain her eccentric behaviour. This became frustrating at times. I have heard there is a sequel but I don’t think o will be rushing to read it.

We ended up choosing this for our book club pick after I began reading it and couldn't stop talking about it. A beautiful story that had us all cheering for Molly from beginning to end.
