Often these cute type books miss the mark for me, but Molly the maid really grew on me and I was rooting for her throughout.

I expect there will be many comparisons to Elinor Oliphant as Molly is a very trusting and socially awkward character trying navigate a confusing and harsh world. However I think this is great in it's own right as it's light enough to keep it sweet and has enough plot to keep it interesting.

Nita Prose has a talent for creating vivid characters. I loved the character of Molly. She was delightful to read. She has such a strong and distinct narrative voice. Prose portrays her in such a intriguing and compelling way. It makes the book impossible to put down.

Molly is a maid. She is eccentric and struggles to read social cues. At work one day she discovers a dead body and the text becomes a whirlwind of intrigue and mystery. Prose creates a fantastic mystery. The winding plot encourages the readers to speculate on who the murderer is and who can be trusted. This is one of my favourite part of mystery novels and something that made the book so page turning.

Prose manages to balance intensity of the mystery with a sense of comfort and joy. The plot is so gripping yet the characters, setting and writing make the book a very cosy and fun read. The cosy mystery aspect of the text throughly reminded me of Agatha Christie novels.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins for providing me with an ARC of this book. I absolutely loved it and have equally loved giving it an honest and voluntary review!

This book is one of the best ones I've read this year. It is the right blend of mystery, a heartwarming story and unexpected friendships. The book had me HOOKED from the first page! I love Molly! She's is such a darling!

Molly is a socially awkward being. She is kind and sweet, but the people around her doesn't even try to understand her. She believes in morals and hates untidiness. She is called names and often taken advantage of. This, she is, unaware of, most of the times.

I love how the relationship between Molly and her grandmother is shown. It was too beautiful, it made my heart so warm just reading it😭 The relationships formed between Molly and Mr. Preston and Juan Manuel, and the way they kind of become a found family, it's all so soul-stirring! I absolutely loved this one!

We’re all the same in different ways

Naive twenty five year old maid Molly makes the perfect protagonist in this addictive and unique murder mystery. Brought up by her spick and span gran, she prides herself on her attention to detail but often misses what is obvious to others.

Most of her colleagues at The Regency Grand Hotel find her strange, as she cannot always decipher social cues but for the most part she blends into the background and gets on with the job she adores - cleaning.

But during a normal shift of returning rooms to a state of perfection, when Molly stumbles on a very imperfect crime scene, even she can see that something is very much amiss.
Being the first to find the body, awkward Molly is high on the list of suspects, but can she convince those around her of her innocence, and maybe even solve the murder?

Brilliantly written in the first person in Molly’s unmistakable voice, we walk side by side in her world and can witness both her frustration at being misunderstood as well see why others take advantage of her naivety. A host of quirky characters make this a heartwarming, thrilling and at times laugh out loud read.

Excitingly a major film is also in the works! 🎬🏨

I LOVED this book. Molly is a brilliant leading lady, endearing, charming and delightful.
A brilliant debut from Nita Prose with some fantastic twists you won't see coming. 5 Stars.

This was.. unique to me.
Personally I liked how completely unlikeable Molly is. She is so detached from the entire world it is downright annoying. She is awkward, unlikeable and overall a boring character and yet it seemed to work. I liked that tiny pieces of the story were slowly given to the audience and truly I felt there still could have been more given at the end of it all. Word of advice.. tip your maid.. and dont be a douchecanoe ahhaa.

A slow start but builds up to a nice ending. It is a quick and easy read and I don't think I will ever go to a hotel and see the staff in a different light to previously. Enjoyable but I don't think I'd be putting it at the top of my recommendations list.

I can definitely see why this book is getting a lot of hype! It's a good murder mystery with lots of twists and a cast of interesting characters. Though Molly doesn't fit into the 'normal' world, she tries her best to be the best hotel maid she can be; she also is a bit too trusting of people which can get her into some sticky situations.

There definitely were some twists I wasn't expecting and would recommend!

So, 'The Maid' is getting a lot of hype. Florence Pugh's already making a movie from it - it hasn't even come out yet. I heard it described once as 'Eleanor Oliphant Investigates a Murder', and I would say that's probably accurate.

I think the hype is somewhat deserved. If you read a lot of books about murders, you won't find anything particularly revolutionary in the plot. But the book's strong point is not the plot - but in the way its told. The first person, unreliable narrator allows the twists and turns to unfold slowly, to keep you guessing as to what certain conversations mean. I have no doubt it's going to make for an excellent film - especially if there's plenty invested into the visuals.

The novel feels very contained. Ironically, everything is clean, placed just so for just a reason. Never stepping much outside of the boundaries of its world, which seems to slip between locations. One of the things I disliked was how the characters seemed to exist in multiple places - they'd mention American cities and restaurants, but then use slang like 'tenner' and 'cuppa'. It was like the author was trying to give them voices that didn't fit and it really took me out of the narrative when it happened.

I can see this book earning even more hype as it gets closer to publication date. And even I - who detest most thrillers - enjoyed reading it, so I imagine it'll be a very popular January 2022 pick.

This is such a wonderful book, it’s impossible not to love it! The writing is brilliant and the language the main character Molly uses is just fantastic. She is the loveliest girl and you can’t help but root for her the entire time,
I felt so sorry for her at times and was over the moon for her at the end.

This is one of those books that makes you really think about life, about how we treat other people, that we need to accept the differences in others and how kindness always wins.
A heartwarming mystery that had me hooked from the first page. I highly recommend this fabulous book!

I think I’m in the minority here... but this book didn’t do much for me. In fact, it took me a long time (by my standards) to finish. I struggled to carry on with it and came very close to abandoning it.

I don’t know. Molly is described as eccentric in the blurb, people can’t relate to her, etc etc. She’s obviously autistic, however events unfold inconsistently. She doesn’t understand social interactions, except when it assists the plot. She follows every rule perfectly, except when she doesn’t. I like an unreliable narrator, but I’m not sure that it was intentional in this case. I’ve said it before. I’m a huge fan of representation, but this one didn’t sing for me.

I kept waiting to be grabbed by this book. The writing was ok, and I’m seeing a lot of people describing it as “cozy”. I guess that’s true. I could see it being a good holiday read. I liked the setting, the grandeur of the hotel, the idea of the private becoming public (at least to the hotel staff), the maid who sees all your dirty little secrets...however, everything leading up to the ending, and the ending itself was just too... neat.

Thank you to Netgalley and to the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read The Maid in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to Net Galley for an e copy to review. What a delightful book and how wonderful the character of Molly Maid! … I absolutely loved her and her desire to return rooms to a state of perfection. The language was fabulous, splendidly old-fashioned, interspersed with numerous Gran’s quotes, many of which I remember my Mum using when I was growing up. There are so many Mollies in the world who are misunderstood because they are a little different with social skills which don’t appear ‘normal’. And there are so many ‘invisible’ people in the world who undertake amazing and necessary duties whi are never recognised or praised highly enough. Thank you to all of the Mollies in the world

I read this book in about 3 days as I picked it up at every moment I was able to. Thank you Nits Prose for such an excellent novel.

This was a fun and thrilling read! I loved the character of Molly from the beginning and found her an interesting protagonist to follow. The murder mystery aspect was done well and it was paced well. The action was intense and I found myself on the edge of my seat when reading this.

Molly the Maid is an old fashioned kind of girl. She was brought up by her grandmother who has recently died.
She works in a boutique style hotel the Regency Grand. Molly likes to make herself invisable to guests but offer top notch service.
Charles and Giselle Black are checked into one of Molly’s assigned rooms, Giselle looks out for Molly and tips well On entering their suite one day Molly finds Charles is dead and Giselle is now where to be seen. .Is Molly connected to the crime? Does she know more than she's letting on.
An interesting read and I look forward to seeing it on the big screen.
Many thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to see an ARC

Murder mystery’s aren’t normally my thing but I’d seen so much about this on Twitter, I felt I should give it a go. I certainly wasn’t disappointed. It was a very easy book to get into and although there wasn’t a great mystery over the murder, it was the strongly written character of molly that kept me engaged. There were times at which I found her character a little frustrating and felt she wasn’t portrayed subtly enough. However, as the story progressed, I could see how Molly changed and evolved as a character and despite some difficult events in her life, it was pleasing to see how she overcame these to have her own fairytale ending.

Ooo I so want to tell you all about this book but then that would spoil the read. All I can say is buy it, sit down and prepare to keep reading and keep guessing, right until the very end.

The Maid was on my pre-order wishlist and then I was lucky to obtain a copy via Net Gallery and immediately started to read. What I hoped would be an exciting and intriguing mystery with Hotel Babylon vibs left me a little lacklustre.

Molly The Maid was a different character from typical books and that I enjoyed although I couldn’t warm to her and felt that the long drawn out quirks and descriptions of her life in the first half of the book didn’t enamour me further, I ended up largely skim reading a lot of repetitive musings and anecdotes. I couldn’t quite place the era, the location despite a lot of filler language which didn’t help me visualise the events in my head.

The second half which peaked my interest somewhat and I enjoyed the twist that I wasn’t expecting.

The ending wraps things up much like a Hallmark movie and could be construed as cheesy but I don’t fault it for that.

If you like your mysteries to be more cosy and easy to read and enjoy a different character from the norm I expect you to enjoy
