This is a book which has captured my interest from the beginning. I love how this is written. It is filled with a mix of characters and has been a book I have been unable to predict.

I loved this book, from the start I couldn’t have guessed what would have happened at all throughout. This book was full of twists and shocks and of course Molly the Maid, the best maid there has ever been

Molly the maid sees everything, even if no one sees her…
I expected an intriguing crime novel with some good twists, but The Maid proved to be so much more than that. I’ve not loved a book with such a special main character like this, since I read Mark Haddon’s Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime and felt thrilled to read and experience the world through Molly’s eyes. Especially something so intense as an investigation. The author really captured Molly brilliantly and I was completely taken with her protagonist, the plot and the outcome - I absolutely had to know what would happen to Molly and how she would cope in the dangerous situation she found herself in. It really was a damn good read and I adored it. I’d recommend it to fans of Curious Incident and anyone who’s looking for a crime novel that really has that unique edge and fantastic twists and turns to boot. Nita really knows how to write a cracking crime novel.
Huge thanks to the author, Nita Prose, and publisher, HarperCollins, for this advance review copy. Views my own. 5*

Molly the maid, is a very kind and likeable character who adores her grandma. Molly always remembers everything her grandma said to her but doesn't quite understand. After her grandma's death, Molly struggles with her finances and her life. But she's still positive and bright.
Molly works at the luxurious Regency Grand Hotel. She is not like anyone else. She loves her job and she works hard and always cleans the guest room and return to a state of perfection.
Mr & Mrs Black are the regular guests of the Regency Grand Hotel. Molly cleans the room whenever they stay. Mrs Black, Giselle, is like a friend to Molly whom she never sees differently.
One day, Molly cleans Mr & Mrs Black's room as always and discovers Mr Black lying still. Molly tries to phone the front desk before she faints. When she wakes up, she struggles to remember what went on in Mr Black's bedroom.
Molly is then brought to the police office to interview and investigate. Days later, Molly was accused of murder with full-greed pointing to her. Did Molly kill Mr Black?
"Gran was correct after all. About all of it. About everything.
The longer you live, the more you learn.
People are mystery that can never be solved. Life has a way of sorting itself out.
Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end."
I was super looking forward to reading The Maid. It can be slow in some chapters but it does not bore me. I do enjoy the story. I think Molly is a very blessed woman with a gentle heart. The twists and turns are actually pretty good. I'm pretty surprised at the finish. It's a good read.

I really enjoyed this book and found the main character both loveable and heart-warming! I felt like I wanted to look after Molly and I found some of the book very funny. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and seeing how the story progressed with Molly and the situation she found herself in.
The twist at the end was not one I expected and was one I was shocked by. Overall I’d recommend reading this book if you enjoy a good thriller.

This was such a good read! I took to Molly and her atypical approach to life immediately. She was so charming and likeable and I rooted for her the entire book. The suspense was more subtle than a typical thriller, definitely more of a mystery. It had hints of Agatha Christie and old but dark Hollywood glamour, which I loved! I had no idea who the culprit was and I was so swept up in the story that I really didn’t see the twist coming.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Interesting and makes you look at the maids that clean you room in a totally different way. there must be some compensations for doing such a mundane job surely? Still living at home and unlucky in love our maid gets more than she bargained for but finds that the results are worth waiting for

The Maid was a total “bookstagram made me do it” request and unfortunately The Maid just didn’t “do it” for me. While there were some sweet moments, I just found the plot to be boring and predictable. I felt this even more so because when I requested there were eye-catching words/phrases like “thrilling” “tension” “instantly gripping” and “darkly beguiling”… even “I know about your dirty laundry” sounded intriguing, but I found it to be anything but intriguing. It would have been a DNF for me, but I owed a review and I hate to DNF any book. I don’t believe it was a horrible book, I just feel catfished. I thought I was getting a juicy, thrilling mystery but instead I got a feel-good cozy mystery. I don’t care for cozy mysteries and never would have requested it if it would have been billed differently.

What a lovely heartfelt story this was. Throughly enjoyed the story of Molly the Maid. It was poignant, funny and had a great feel-good vibe to it.
Highly recommended to all
Thank you Netgalley.

I had so much hope and expectation for this and it just didn’t hit the spot. I didn’t like the main character at all; her neurodivergence is clear from the beginning, however it is not consistent throughout. Sometimes she is oblivious to life, other times she is really clued up. I also wasn’t a massive fan of the plot as I found it very predictable (with the exception of Mr Preston - I liked that, but found there were too many loose ends).
Overall, a bit disappointed, but I am excited to see how the film adaptation tackles it.

Unfortunately I did not enjoy this. The plot is overly simplistic and the 'hints' given towards the start are very obvious. It was easy to see where this was going. I was also not a fan of Molly's character. She is very obviously neurodivergent, I assumed from the way she was written that she is meant to be autistic. Unfortunately she is quite inconsistent, not being able to understand basic social cues and conversational nuances and generally written as a bit simple, yet somehow knowing what information to omit when speaking to police and if and when to reveal things and in what way to get the result that she wants. Also, the thing with the Gran at the end? What on earth was the purpose in that, aside from as an awful red herring? There were also a number of unresolved issues towards the end that I felt a bit odd, the money, her family, I don't know what the point of introducing at least one of those was if it was just ignored for the most part.
I understand why it was written in the style it was, but I found it very dry, boring at times and everyone was quite one dimensional.

I LOVED this book! Molly was such a brilliant main character and the story was told in such a way that the reader could see what Molly couldn't yet I was still surprised by certain aspects as the story unfolded.
The way this book was told was so intriguing I read 90% of it in one sitting. I loved the way the twists were revealed and the end made me so happy.
I would recommend this book to everyone and will definitely read more from this author.

I found this debut novel by the author to be a real page turner and I was hooked from start to finish. Heroine of the story, Molly the maid, works at the Regency Grand Hotel, her day consists of dusting, cleaning, plumping pillows, and wiping away both the grime and the secrets of the guests passing through. Molly knows all her guests secrets but they hardly even notice her, she’s invisible, however, when a rather infamous guest, Mr Black is found dead in his bed, Molly is rather unwillingly thrown into the spotlight. Molly becomes involved in the hunt for the truth and as she follows the clues it takes her along the hallways of the Regency Grand, and Molly discovers she has a power. She may be just a maid but she can see things that others often overlook. This is a gripping story with an unique and original main character in Molly, her character is so well defined that I felt engaged with her, and therefore the storyline. The authors descriptive narrative of the hotel made the setting come vividly to life making me feel immersed in the story. I recommend this enjoyable and entertaining read.

I adored this book and the character of Molly! I read it a few months ago, now but it still sticks with me.
Molly is a lovable and interesting character but I actually found her naivety off putting and quite irritating as the book went on. However I adored the concept of her character and a look into an ‘invisible’ worker at a grand hotel.
Excellent read and I’m super interested in whatever Nita writes next!

Oh Molly! Molly is delightful! And The Maid is a delight to read.
Reviewers are crazy about Molly and so am I. I can't think of fresh adjectives: charming, quirky, original, escapist, refreshing, heartwarming, etc. etc. All true. And if that makes you squirm, no it's not mawkish or sentimental or yucky. (Well I suppose it is, but only in a few places). It's a genuinely good book and a great read. Is it overhyped? Yes, it's that too. Read it on the wrong day and it's no doubt irritating and unbelievable. It has more plot holes than a bowl of macaroni.
I get the (few) negative reviews. But I also get the rave reviews. In these sad and scary times, we all need a dose of Molly.
If handled right, it's going to be a blockbuster movie.

A great murder-mystery, told from Molly's perspective, giving an interesting view of someone who is kind, conscientious and principled, but who sees the world differently.
Molly loves her job as a maid working at the Regency Grand Hotel in New York, following in the footsteps of her gran and relishing the routine and attention to detail.
These traits carry into her personal life and she likes everything to be done properly and with the correct etiquette. However, she struggles to read expressions and pick up on social clues, leading a solitary life with no real friends beyond her work acquaintances and her gran.
The situation becomes even harder for Molly when she discovers a dead body in the hotel, and judged for being different, finds herself the prime suspect.
Molly is a very interesting and strong character. She goes through a lot and is underestimated but copes with everything that is thrown her way, and stays true to herself.

The Maid by Nita Prose is an intriguing storyline about Molly the maid. Molly is a little different from other people, she is very honest and says what she thinks and has no concept of boundaries but knows the difference between right and wrong. The storyline is fascinating and entertaining and the characters are a mixed bunch of people. Some good, some bad and some become friends of Molly.. There are many twists and turns to this story and the ending is absolutely phenomenal.
I enjoyed reading this book., it is one of the best books I have read this year..
Highly recommended.

I have heard so much hype about this book that I knew I had to read it and see what all the fuss was about – I’m really happy to say that I loved it and it definitely lived up to my high expectations. Molly is a maid at a posh hotel and she really cares about doing her job properly and well. One day she finds one of the guests dead in bed and somehow the finger of suspicion starts to be pointed at her. Molly isn’t great at reading people so the reader definitely sees more of what is going on around Molly than she is aware of which led to me being anxious about how much trouble she might unwittingly end up in. She’s a great character though and I was rooting for her the whole way through the novel. I still think about her and wonder how she’s doing now! I recommend this one!

I loved The Maid by Nita Prose. There. I have said it. It was one fine murder mystery.
The story centres on Molly, a hardworking maid with exacting standards who works at the Regency Grand Hotel. The more you learn about Molly, the more you see that Molly sees the world in a different way and this makes her colleagues judge Molly. She doesn't quite fit in. The problem is that this leaves Molly vulnerable.
Alone in the world, Molly has no sounding board and has to judge social situations by herself. When this leads her into serious trouble Molly is left without anyone to rely on. Or does she…
The Maid is an absolute corker of a story. It is, in theory, a cosy crime novel but there were times during this novel that made my heart actually ache. I cared so much for Molly that I hated that she was going through this and I had to remind myself that she is a fictional character.
Honestly, The Maid is one of the best books I have read this year. An absolute must-read for anyone who is a fan of crime.

The Maid by Nita Prose
“I don’t cut corners, I shine them.”
Molly Gray, twenty five, is a maid at the Regency Grand Hotel. She loves her job – She delights in in donning her uniform, stocking her cart, and returning guest rooms to a state of perfection. Molly is not like everyone else. She struggles with social skills and misreads the intentions of others. Her gran used to interpret the world for her, codifying it into simple rules that Molly could live by but since her Gran died a few months ago, Molly has been navigating life’s complexities all by herself. But Molly’s life is upended the day she enters the suite of the infamous wealthy Charles Black only to find himself dead in his bed. Before she knows what’s happening, Molly’s unusual demeanour has the police targeting her as their lead suspect. She quickly finds herself caught in a web of deception; one she has no idea how to untangle. Fortunately for Molly, friends she never knew she had unite with her in a search for clues to what really happened to Mr. Black—but will they be able to find the real killer before it’s too late?
This charming debut brings a new unique perspective to your typical murder mystery. This isn’t a typical thriller; I did find it slower paced but it was so wonderful to read about Molly and her individuality. I loved her development across the chapters and recollection of ‘life lessons’ instilled in her by her grandmother.
“Gran used to say, Never mind what others think; it's what you think that matters. And I agree. One must live by their own moral code, not follow like a sheep blindly.”
The last quarter of the book was wonderful, and I couldn’t put it down. Molly forms unlikely alliances and through these social interactions she leans a lot about herself and the difficult situation she is in. It was hear warming to read.
This isn’t your typical fast paced shocking thriller – it had a lot of depth and character development and I highly recommend it!
