This is an informative book with a lot of color and interesting facts about coral reefs. It turns out there’s a lot about coral reefs that I didn’t know!
The book is split up into a couple sections: information about coral, including what it is, the different types, where it is found, and a Hawaiian legend about coral; information on how pollution affects coral; and why coral matters to our ecosystem.
All of the information is very child-friendly and each page has accompanying illustrations that are carefully drawn and catch the reader’s eye. This would most likely be appropriate for a third grader, but my three-year-old review buddy enjoyed looking at the pictures and understood some of the information about coral. This would be a great addition to a classroom library or a home library.
There are still places to explore in this world and the life below the water is rife with the beauty and wonder of it all. This book for older kids is great way to not only make them aware of all the interesting and fascinating beauty of the coral reef but also how each one of us can influence that life. The examples are given are all very good ones as long as they are reinforced by teachers and parents over time. The art work (graphics) bring each page to life, which is important so as people cannot easily dismiss the results of climate change and more.
I received an advanced reader copy for free from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
The illustrations in this book are simply beautiful. I loved all the information and the colourful pictures. This book is cool and I think children will love it because there isn't too much information each page and the pages are bright and interesting. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book.
What a wonderful book! The illustrations are beautiful and it's full of information about the coral reefs and the sea life that lives there. It makes learning fun and should be in every school library. If your child is interested in the ocean and all the creatures that call it home they will love this book. It would make a wonderful gift. Thank you Storey Publishing via NetGalley for the complimentary copy of this beautiful book. All opinions expressed are my own.
First thing I loved the graphics. They were captivating not for kids but adults as well. The book begins with identifying the importance of Coral Reefs. Then it introduces the fishes and plants that live in them. At the end it explains the problems we currently face and what we can do to help in our own way.
The books explains everything wonderfully for kids and keep their interest as well.
Packed full of clear, informative facts about coral reefs, this is a good book to include in classroom resources about oceans and the environment. The World of Coral Reefs gives an overview of the types of reefs, types of corals, reef-dwelling animals, and threats faced by reefs in easy to read text accompanied by beautiful, accurate illustrations.
The climate threat faced by the reefs today was discussed, and gave tips for how children can help make a difference to the global issue.
There was some lovely Hawaiian mythology included which broke up the more serious topics.
Aimed at upper primary school (years 3-6), this is a good resource for children starting to learn about oceans.
*Many thanks to Netgalley for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
Thank you to NetGalley and Storey Publishing for this gorgeous and informative ARC. This non-fiction children’s book is brimming with information about our ocean’s coral reefs and the animals that make it their home. The illustrations were vivid and lush and the topic held the interest of my two ocean-loving children. I learned a great deal, myself, while reading this book. This is the perfect non-fiction read for children who are curious about the ocean and would like more in depth information rather than a cursory glance.
What a fantastic children's book! The illustrations are so vibrant and engaging. Absolutely beautiful. As a science teacher I am blown away at the various different biological topics discussed in this book from ecology, biodiversity, microscopy, cellular reproduction. These topics were explained in a way that a child could understand without watering down the content or the vocabulary used. Fantastic book! Highly recommended!
I got a free copy from NetGalley for an honest opinion.
I read this with my 9yr old son, and we loved it.
Pictures were bright and vibrant.
Lots of cool facts and information to learn about the ocean.
My son learned something and it was fun to read together.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Storey Publishing, LLC for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a children's nonfiction book. It is beautifully illustrated, and very informative. It is probably to much information to take in at once. I was a bit overwhelmed myself. Very educational A hit for anyone who loves the ocean. 5 stars
A fantastic book for children about coral reefs. It went on to explain what coral does and what it looks like, as well as talked about animals that live down there too. Was really informative although there was a lot of information so I don't think a child would take it all in, in one go!
Beautiful illustrations that were very eye-catching.
Very informative book with great descriptions - where you can really imagine what it's like down at the bottom of the ocean!
3 stars - I liked it
This was a wonderful children’s book about coral reefs. While I am not a child I still found the book informative and fun to read. Alexandra Neonakis did a wonderful job with the artwork for this book. It was captivating, colorful, and worked extremely well with the text.
If you have children who are interested in the ocean, I highly recommend getting them this book.
