This book is part of the series, set in Ireland. I don’t think this book would read well as a standalone.
I enjoyed the writing and the characters
This was my first time reading a book from the author but I am delighted to say I thoroughly enjoyed the story and I look forward to reading more books from the writer in the future
This superb book has romance aplenty! It is so beautifully written and was a true joy to read. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
One of my favourite by this author hooked from first few pages so easy to read your pulled into the book your part of the story just great I recommend to you all
I read this ARC for an honest review
All thoughts and opinions are mine
I love this author's books
This one is a sequel tying up the ends and really enjoyed this
Its worth reading the previous title before reading this
This tied together all the previous Irish/ Deverell family book and is up to Santa's usual standard of keeping you guessing until the end, wonderful
This is another sweeping Deverill read although it is slightly different in that it is predominantly told through the eyes of an author researching the family. I really liked this change and thought it brought something new to the read. There is an element of the supernatural running through this which sadly I could not get on board with but putting this aside then I did enjoy the read and being back with the characters. We learn more about them every time which I love.
I have read about 2/3 of this book but gave up it before the end. Maybe I've lost interest because I haven't read the other books of the series?
Thanks to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster UK for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is a novel with the concept of redemption at its heart. Researching in order to write a book about the Deverill family, Margot Hart finds herself more involved in their story than she could have imagined. Wrongs that need to be righted from the past are revealed by unquiet spirits who haunt the pages along with the books characters. I found this device interesting if a little unsettling!
Never disappoints. This is beautifully written and unputdownable.
Family and secrets Montefiore at her best and the book of the summer. I loved every page and the characters.
I don’t even know how to start this review as I know my words will never do it justice. Each time I pick one of this authors books up, I wonder how it is going to top their previous book as each and every one I’ve read has absolutely blown me away and warmed me to the core.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publishing house and the author for the opportunity to read an advance reader copy of this book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion.
This is the book I didn’t know I needed, but I really did. When I finished the fourth and at the time final book in the Deverill Chonicles I was satisfied, I felt like the series was wonderfully completed. I was sad it was over; then I saw this book and I was so excited. I wondered if this book would live up to the rest of the series…it was fantastic, it was the perfect ending.
This book was honest, compelling, sad, heartbreaking, heart-lifting and just wonderful. This book is years in the future from the last book, it finds one of my favourites, Kitty as having passed on but still hanging around, keeping watch over the family castle, which has now been sold by her half brother and Deverill heir, JP. The Deverill estate is now a luxury hotel and as writer in residence, Margot Hart moves in, she will be writing a story of the Deverill castle and the family.
Margot idea of writing a book about the Deverills is not widely excepted by most of the remaining Deverills, but JP who is now a recluse and alcoholic, excepts her into his home and agrees to work with her for the book. JP’s son, Colm does not trust Margot and wants this book idea shut down, Jack convinces him it would be easier to work from the inside and so Colm sets out to find out more about this beauty. As Colm, JP and Margot work together, learning about the family history, Colm starts to fall for Margot.
As the book gets closer to being finished we learn much about the past and see how it effects the present. We meet many interesting characters and the storyline was so well laid out. The ending of this book was perfect, it made me cry, it made me smile, it makes you realize what enduring love really is.
I truly hope this is not the last in the series, the author made mention that perhaps she may write another Deverill book; sign me up for that one and any other book that she writes.
So in this fifth book of Deverill Chronicles, Margot Hart travels to Ireland to write about the Deverill family. Her grandfather has been friends with Harry Deverill, so he has told her many stories about the family and their castle, and when Margot is looking for an idea for a new book, she is pitching Deverill biography to her publisher. And she is sent to Ballinnakelly, to live in Deverill Castle Hotel and to write their story.
Of Course there are those who are interested in the book and those who do not want such a book to see the light of day. The current Lord and his family are most affected by this project, so among them are those who do not want their still bleeding wounds to be reopened, but there are those who see it as their opportunity to tell their side or their “version” of the story.
Since this story starts twenty years after the last book, there are some characters who have already left, some are leaving and some can not close the door behind them since there are still things to do, lives to observe, hopes to keep alive and feuds to keep alive.
It is a libronovella so of course there is drama and romance, unbelievable things and moments full of tears. You can’t stop reading, since every page can bring something new.
Will it be the last book of the trilogy? We’ll see :)
Unfortunately for me I haven’t read the books before this as this was part of a trilogy. I did enjoy this book immensely, however I’m going to purchase the 2 earlier books and read them before i read this book again!!
I'm a huge fan of Sandra Montefiore and I enjoyed this book but it's not a favorite.
It can be read as a stand alone but I think it's better to read the rest of the Deverill series as there's plenty of characters and it could be a bit problematic to keep track of them and their stories.
It's an engrossing and entertaining stories. I was happy to meet again characters from the past book and I loved Kitty, her strength and her force.
I wasn't a fan of Margot but I rooted for her and Colm.
There's plenty going on in this book and it was a pleasant read.
I'm wondering if this is the last book in this series as I cannot hep wondering what will happend to Margot and Colm.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
After she dies, Kitty makes a vow, of staying in the castle, until such a time that a Deverill owns it again. It’s been some, and is now a hotel, not a castle. Margot, is writing a book and comes to stay in it for 9 months, her book is about the Deverill family history and not everyone in the family is for her writing this book.
She tells the story both from her and Kitty’s viewpoints in the book. The characters are written so we, you feel as though they’re there with you narrating the story.
The book has a lot of heartache and drama, some joy and, of course you need suspense.
Recommend It.
Another great read from Santa Montefiore. Very engaging from start to finish. Great characters and setting
I started reading this not knowing that it was the fifth in a series and unfortunately it did not grasp and hold my attention. I have heard great things about Santa Montefiore’s writing, but this book was not the best one for me to start with it seems.
I would like to thank the author, the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read this book in exchange for an honest review, but as I did not manage to finish it I will not be sharing my review on social sites as that would not be fair for the author.
This is the fifth book of the Deverill series and again the author has provided a great story and a captivating read. Margot Hart has travelled to Ireland to write a biography on the Deverill family. As the author in residence at what was the family castle Margot sets to uncovering secrets that were never to be told.
As well as being part of a series, the book could be an individual read, as characters from previous books are introduced in the first few chapters. This book doesn’t disappoint, there is good description that one could imagine being there and the characters are likeable. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the author didn’t disappoint. A definite recommendation.
The Distant Shores by Santa Montefiore is the fifth book in the Deverill series and I have not read any of the previous book but I did enjoy it, it was a different read to my normal books I read. I only picked it as I read a previous book by Santa and I loved it, It will not be the last book I will read from the author as I like the way she writes. So she was a great find! Thank you x
"" Margot Hart travels to Ireland to write a biography of the famous Deverill family. She knows she must speak to the current Lord Deverill - JP - if she is to uncover the secrets of the past. A notorious recluse, JP won't be an easy man to crack. But Margot is determined - and she is not a woman who is easily put off.""
PS the book cover was just perfect for this book. Just beautiful.
Big Thank you to Netgalley and publishers Simon & Schulster for providing me with a digital review copy of The distant Shores in exchange for an honest review.
