This book is definitely an emotional thriller/mystery page turner. It's brilliant and I loved every page. It's grabs you from the get go and it's impossible to put down. The characters are so true to life they came off of the page. It gave me chills and at the same time I felt so emotional I could of cried. It's a distressing book in parts especially when baby Michael was found and Alice walked into the sea, leaving behind her two daughters Lily and Marietta. The tension ramps up with every chapter until you reach the shocking conclusion and you find out the real story behind baby Michael's death and why Alice committed suicide. It's a brilliant book and Erin Kinsley is one hell of a writer.

A rather sad basis for the story, but an involving read as the mystery is unraveled. The characters are clearly drawn and very believable.

Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy. I haven't been able to get into her books as well as others, but this book was better than the previous one I read. I like how the relationship between with sisters flourished as they learned secrets about their mom and her past. Here are two girls who didn't get along that had to lean on each other and trust each other. Some good suspense. Some good twists.

Marietta receives a call from her sister Lily, their mother has died, drowned and Marietta has to return to the home town she left years ago. DI Russell Fox is fast coming to the end of his career, in the cold case unit and there is one case that haunts him, that of baby Michael, a child found murdered years ago, with no clues as to the murderer.
Everyone has secrets, some are just harder to keep than others. We all think we know everything about our parents, but we can’t really know all their secrets, and some are better kept than others. There are things parents do to try to keep their children safe, which, with hindsight was the wrong thing to do, This is a really well plotted and written story, the characters had interesting back stories, although at times I was frustrated with Lily. However, everyone deals with grief differently, especially when that death is unexpected. The ending was interesting and surprising,.which is always a good thing. A gripping read that also covered a range of topics really well.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I really enjoyed this book. It had more depth than I expected, being more than just a murder mystery. The main story centres around the discovery of a murdered baby twenty five years previously but there are a number of sub plots which are written about sensitively and with emotion. The characters are well defined and their stories evolve through the course of the book, and I found my own feelings towards them evolving too. I will definitely stock in my bookshop.

Wonderful read! An excellent proper story with a beginning, middle and end. Well written, interesting, intriguing and exciting. The characters were all well created and I cared about them. I really enjoyed this excellent novel and highly recommend it!

Wao. It was damn good.
loyal but fragile Lily, and headstrong, long-absent Marietta - are forcibly reunited by her disappearance. Meanwhile, with retirement looming, DI Fox investigates cold cases long since forgotten. And there's one obsession he won't let go: a tragic death twenty years before. Can Lily and Marietta uncover what happened to their mother? Will Fox solve a mystery that has haunted him for decades? As their stories unexpectedly collide, long-buried secrets will change their lives in unimaginable ways.
Read it.
